I heard a roaring sound of my car hitting the tree. The white airbag immediately burst open and hit me violently. My body flew back to the seat like a rag doll. Mike was thrown forward, while the seat belt which he was thankfully wearing pulled him back. The front of my car and the car windows were broken, and the passenger door was destroyed. I was overwhelmed by the feeling of guilt. Through this accident, I came to realize the value of our life and the importance of obeying traffic rules. After all, nothing is more precious than life. Simpson noticed the flame was growing. Frozen with fear, he stood rooted to the spot. By then, he was coughing and his eyes were stinging. Time seemed to stand still, though he was probably there for only two or three minutes. To my sadness, I found that a small child had fallen into the hole on the road. The boards had been washed away by the rushing water. I could hardly see the child as it was dark all around me. Then I stretched out a hand to seize the child's hand, pulling him out completely. With great efforts, he fought his way out in the snow for hours but couldn't find anyone. He had no choice but to follow his tracks and return to his snow cave, because without shelter, he could die during the night. On the third day, he again went out in search of help. He had walked for about two miles when a volunteer rescuer spotted him. After being stuck in the snow for two days, he was saved eventually. 佳作欣赏 [2023湖北黄冈期中]It was a bright spring afternoon along the coast, and Jonathan Bauer, 51, and his 13-year-old daughter, Ava, were taking full advantage of it. They were driving with the windows down as they headed home on the 1.4-mile-long, two-lane Route 90 bridge, which crosses the shallow waters of the bay. Suddenly, the calm was disturbed by the loud noise of tires. Not far ahead of them, a black pickup truck was skidding(打滑) from one lane to the other. To Bauer's horror, it crashed into a concrete barrier, spun like a top(陀螺), flipped over the SUV directly ahead of them, and came to rest hanging over the railing(栏杆) of the bridge. Bauer slammed on the brakes in time to avoid the vehicles in his path, but a BMW that had hit into the guardrail(护栏) on the right came sliding backward towards him. He turned left, but too late — the BMW struck his car's fender(保险杠) before crashing into the vehicle behind him. Bauer stopped the car. "Ava, are you OK?" he asked. She was shaken, but unhurt. He ran to the BMW. "Are you OK?" he asked the driver. She nodded, too shocked to speak. And then a scream. It came from the pickup truck, which had come to rest on its right side. The back passenger compartment(隔间) and truck bed hung out past the guardrail, 30 or more feet above the waters of the bay. The driver's door was open and a man climbed out. He dropped to the ground, and then dashed to the railing. Bauer ran up beside him. The man pointed down. In the water was a car seat. Next to it, a girl, about two years old, was terrified, floating on her back, and screaming. Things quickly went from bad to worse when the girl rolled over onto her stomach. Bauer waited for the pickup truck driver to do something, but he didn't. Maybe he was in shock. "Ava!" Bauer yelled, trying to remove his shoes. "Stay by the car!" He climbed onto the railing and jumped into the water without hesitation. A moment later the ambulance arrived. He climbed onto the railing and jumped into the water without hesitation. Seeing the little girl just ten feet away, Bauer swam to her with all his strength and lifted her out of the water swiftly. Seeing her return a little after coughing some water, Bauer breathed a sigh of relief(松了一口气), and pulled her close to shelter her from the cold. Just then a boat pulled up(停靠) and saved Bauer and the little girl aboard. In the meantime, Ava, stunned by what she witnessed(震惊于她所目睹的一切), called for the ambulance. A moment later the ambulance arrived. The girl was rushed to hospital. The people looking down from the bridge changed their great tension into much admiration for Bauer(他们极度紧张的情绪变成了对Bauer的深深钦佩), including his daughter, Ava. Inspired by her father's deed(受父亲事迹的鼓舞), Ava determined to be a person who is also helpful and brave 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
