B On April 26th, 2022, Italian traveler Vienna Cammarota set off from Venice, the hometown of the encouraging explorer Marco Polo, with the ambition of retracing his route to China along the ancient Silk Road on foot. With a simple backpack and two trekking poles, 74-year-old Cammarota covered over 20,000 km and passed through dozens of countries. The moment she set foot in China on August 29th, she was warmly greeted by people who put on traditional dance and singing performances for her arrival via Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. From Xinjiang, Cammarota embarked on a 15-month cultural journey across China and explored over 30 cities in 17 provinces and autonomous regions. Her journey will come to an end in Beijing to mark the 750th anniversary of Marco Polo’s arrival in China. Throughout her journey, Cammarota witnessed the transformation of the ancient Silk Road into a corridor of economic and cultural exchange, saying “I have seen the bridges, highways, and railways built under China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which connect countries in a way that echoes the Silk Road’s historic role in facilitating trade and cultural exchange.” Cammarota reached Tajikistan, where she visited the China-Tajikistan highway project. The infrastructure project, once completed, was expected to enhance regional connectivity and bring new opportunities. For Cammarota, this journey was more than retracing Marco Polo’s footsteps. She hoped her travels would help people in Italy and the West see the true beauty and greatness of China. “This is a land filled with numerous UNESCO heritage sites, cutting-edge technology, and a harmonious balance between urban development and natural preservation,” Cammarota said. Describing herself as an ambassador of cultural exchange and modern-day Marco Polo, Cammarota noted, “I want to know about Marco Polo and the Silk Road, but I also want to send a message to women of my age — it’s never too late to pursue your dreams.” 4. What encouraged Cammarota to walk along the Silk Road? A. Marco Polo’s travelling experience. B. The transformation of the Silk Road. C. Her love for adventure and exploration. D. Her desire to promote cultural exchange. 5. What does the underlined phrase “embarked on” mean in paragraph 2? A. Changed. B. Started. C. Accomplished. D. Continued. 6. Which of the following is NOT witnessed by Cammarota in China? A. The traditional performances. B. The friendliness of Chinese people. C. The China-Tajikistan highway project. D. The infrastructures built under the BRI. 7. Which of the following can best describe Cammarota? A. Cautious and persistent. B. Courageous and intelligent. C. Generous and adaptable. D. Adventurous and ambitious. C In the field of space exploration, an interesting development has emerged. Scientists generally don’t believe in the existence of aliens on the moon. However, if by some tiny chance they do exist, the astronauts bound for the moon in the near future will surely make an impression. Some may consider this a humorous thought, but it highlights an important aspect — the evolution of spacesuits. The new spacesuit for the 2026 Artemis mission, revealed on Oct. 16, is a remarkable example. This project is a collaboration between Italian fashion house Prada and Houston-based startup Axiom Space. This mission holds great significance as it will be the first lunar landing since Apollo 17 in 1972. The new spacesuit may not seem drastically different from its previous models at first glance. Yet, it has unique features such as red trim and grey patches on the knees and elbows, adding a touch of color. But it’s not just about appearance. Prada’s expertise in sewing methods and high-performance materials has been incorporated. The aim is to create a suit that is both visually appealing and comfortable, while also dealing with the harsh conditions of space travel, like the extreme temperatures of the moon for at least two hours. This partnership showcases how innovation thrives when diverse teams with different backgrounds and skills come together. Moreover, this is part of a growing trend where luxury brands are entering the space-related business, as seen with other examples like Pierre Cardin’s new astronaut training suit and Hilton’s involvement in space station suite design. 8. Why is the existence of aliens mentioned at the beginning of the passage? A. To highlight the humorous aspect of space exploration. B. To introduce the topic of the evolution of spacesuits. C. To show that scientists doubt the existence of life on the moon. D. To illustrate the challenges astronauts might face on the moon. 9. Which of the following is NOT a feature of the new spacesuit for the 2026 Artemis mission? A. Red trim and grey patches on the knees and elbows. B. A built-in communication system. C. Enhanced durability and comfort. D. The ability to bear extreme temperatures for at least two hours. 10. What trend is highlighted in the last paragraph? A. The increasing commercialization of space exploration. B The growing importance of fashion in space missions. C. The potential for luxury brands to dominate the space industry. D. The cooperation between fashion and technology for innovation. 11. What is the best title of the passage? A. The Evolution of Spacesuits: From Apollo to Artemis. B. Fashion in Space: The Role of High-End Brands in Modern Exploration. C. Luxury Meets Space: The New Frontier of Fashion and Exploration. D. The Challenges and Innovations in Modern Spacesuit Design. D A watched pot never boils, but time has wings when you’re having fun. The familiar saying has a basis in solid science — our sense of time does expand and contract depending on the way we experience the world. Even delicate visual features can affect how we perceive time. New research shows more memorable images seem to last longer. Martin Wiener, head of the research, says the finding helps reveal how the brain’s time-bending strategy allows it to process and remember more information. While what is actually happening in the brain when time seems to expand remains unclear, scientists suspect it may have something to do with helping the brain process more information in limited time. This is especially relevant to the brain’s visual system which, subjected to information overload, has to rank in order of importance, allowing for limited resources. Recent research has shown some images are more naturally memorable than others. To understand how this memorability of an image, along with a few simpler visual features such as scene size and disorder, might relate to our subjective sense of time, Wiener and his colleagues conducted related experiments, in which subjects were shown images with varying durations and were asked to categorize whether the length of time on the screen was either “short” or “long”. The next day they were given a surprise memory test to see which images they recalled seeing. The researchers found larger scene sizes seemed to extend time while more disorderly scenes seemed to contract it. Besides, the subjects perceived more memorable images remained on the screen longer, even if they were all presented for the same amount of time. To find the underlying factor, the team fed the same memorability-ranked images to a neural (神经的) network modeled after the brain’s visual system and found more memorable images were processed faster. The explanation for why our brain’s faster processing would slow time is that it’s increasing the amount of information it can take in at once. Limited resources to process information may act as a sort of bottleneck, which the brain can widen when it needs to absorb more information, thus dilating time. 12. What does the familiar saying “A watched pot never boils” illustrate? A. Time seems to slow down when we are actively waiting for something. B. Time seems to pass more quickly when we are not paying attention. C. Time perception is not affected by our activities. D. Time perception is not related to our emotional state. 13. How does the brain’s visual system handle information? A. By screening out complex images. B. By comparing similar scenes. C. By sorting randomly. D. By setting priorities. 14. Which of the images seems to last longest if shown on the screen for an equal duration? A. B. C. D. 15. What does the passage mainly talk about? A. How the brain processes visual information. B. How the brain ranks information by importance. C. How memorable images affect our perception of time. D. How different visual features influence memory. How to stay fit while traveling rarely scores high on our priority list. Sometimes it is not that we’re not motivated to stay fit or have no time. I believe the issue is that we are out of our regular “home routine”. ____16____ Our brain simply can’t link the new environment to our usual habits and puts itself in “explorer’s mode”. How can we stay fit while traveling? Have a strong vision. The best way to create motivation to stay fit is something you can visualize. If you have the visual, it is good. ____17____ If it helps, write it on a piece of paper and put it in your wallet. This will serve as a vision for you. Once you focus on the vision and consistently think about it, things get easier. Prepare a “travel routine” ahead of time. Consistency is the most important part of the training process. ____18____ I found that having a “travel routine” helps to signal the brain that from the organizational perspective nothing has changed. It doesn’t have to be very detailed and can be as simple as a set of principles, like exercising in the morning or not eating too much after 6:00 p. m. ____19____ The easiest way to stay fit while traveling is to move and make active lifestyle a habit. Walk a couple of stops instead of taking the public transport. Use the stairs instead of an elevator. If there’s a nice viewpoint, look for a way to hike to it rather than drive to it. Sure, it will be tough at first, but our bodies are good at adapting to anything. ____20____ A. People, language, food — everything is different. B. Stick to 10-minute morning stretches daily. C. Picture it, feel it, and most importantly, focus on it. D. Yet, traveling tends to break our regular pattern and change our focus. E. Walk and explore more. F. Gradually, you’ll become stronger and start enjoying it. G. Don’t let travel become an excuse for being lazy. As Canadian violinist Adrian Anantawan was playing in Boston Theatre, the audience not only heard his violin but what it ____21____: the sound of possibility. “A lot of times, we let fear get in the way of trying anything,” Anantawan said. “For me, my story has always been a result of just trying something, being okay with ____22____, and then just seeing what the results are.” Born without his right hand, Anantawan only has five fingers. Equipped with backpacks filled with water, snacks, and a map, they were excited to explore the great outdoors. As they walked along the well-marked track, chatting and laughing, the weather took an unexpected turn. Dark clouds rolled in quickly, swallowing the sun. The wind started to roar, and soon, rain poured down heavily. The path became slippery, and visibility dropped significantly. Lily, trying to keep up everyone’s spirits, suggested they find a place to take shelter. They spotted a small cave on the side of the hill and made their way towards it. Inside the cave, the air was damp and cold. As they gathered closely together, waiting for the storm to pass, they realized they had left their emergency flashlight in Jack’s backpack, which he had accidentally dropped on the trail during their rush to the cave. After what seemed like hours, the rain finally stopped, but the sky remained cloudy. When they stepped out of the cave, they were shocked to find that the track was no longer recognizable. Mudslides had occurred, and large stones blocked their way back. To make matters worse, Jack checked his phone and found that there was no signal. With a sense of unease coming in, they knew they had to find a way out of the mountains before nightfall. They decided to follow a small stream they saw, hoping it would lead them to a more familiar path or a nearby village. As they walked along the stream, the path became increasingly difficult, with steep slopes (陡坡) and thick underbrush. Suddenly, Emma let out a scream. She had stepped on a loose rock and twisted her ankle badly. Lily and Jack rushed to her side, their faces filled with worry. Now, not only did they have to find their way out, but they also had to help their injured friend. Lily and Jack exchanged anxious looks, their minds racing for solutions. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Just when they felt tired and hungry, Lily spotted a village in the distance. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2024—2025—2学期麓山国际高二第一次学情检测试卷 英语 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 做题时,先将答案标在试卷上。 How much is the shirt? B. The growing importance of fashion in space missions. 8. B 9. B 10. D 11. Scientists generally don’t believe in the existence of aliens on the moon. However, if by some tiny chance they do exist, the astronauts bound for the moon in the near future will surely make an impression. Some may consider this a humorous thought, but it highlights an important aspect — the evolution of spacesuits.(在太空探索领域,出现了一个有趣的发展。 第三段中的“Yet, it has unique features such as red trim and grey patches on the knees and elbows, adding a touch of color.(然而,它具有独特的功能,如膝盖和肘部的红色镶边和灰色补丁,增添了一抹色彩。)” 第三段中的“Prada’s expertise in sewing methods and high-performance materials has been incorporated. The aim is to create a suit that is both visually appealing and comfortable, while also dealing with the harsh conditions of space travel, like the extreme temperatures of the moon for at least two hours.(Prada在缝纫方法和高性能材料方面的专业知识已被纳入其中。 根据最后一段中“This partnership showcases how innovation thrives when diverse teams with different backgrounds and skills come together. Moreover, this is part of a growing trend where luxury brands are entering the space-related business, as seen with other examples like Pierre Cardin’s new astronaut training suit and Hilton’s involvement in space station suite design.(这种合作关系展示了当具有不同背景和技能的不同团队聚集在一起时,创新是如何蓬勃发展的。 C。 D A watched pot never boils, but time has wings when you’re having fun. To understand how this memorability of an image along with a few simpler visual features such as scene size and disorder, might relate to our subjective sense of time, Wiener and his colleagues conducted related experiments, in which subjects were shown images with varying durations and were asked to categorize whether the length of time on the screen was either “short” or “long”. A 13. D 14. B 15. 根据第一段“A watched pot never boils, but time has wings when you’re having fun. 根据第三段“This is especially relevant to the brain’s visual system which, subjected to information overload, has to rank in order of importance, allowing for limited resources. 根据第五段“The researchers found larger scene sizes seemed to extend time while more disorderly scenes seemed to contract it. 根据第二段“Martin Wiener, head of the research, says the finding helps reveal how the brain’s time-bending strategy allows it to process and remember more information. 16. A 17. C 18. D 19. E 20. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Lily and Jack exchanged anxious looks, their minds racing for solutions. Jack quickly took off his backpack and looked through it, finding a bandage to wrap Emma’s ankle as best as he could. “We can’t leave her here,” Lily said firmly, her voice echoing with determination. They made a makeshift stretcher using branches and their jackets, carefully placing Emma on it. The going was slow and difficult as they navigated the rough path. Every step was a struggle, but their bond as friends kept them going. As the afternoon wore on, tiredness began to set in. Just when they felt tired and hungry, Lily spotted a village in the distance. Heart pounding with hope, they made their way towards it. To their joy, they found a well-used path that led down the village. With renewed energy, they quickened their pace. Finally, they reached the small village at the foot of the mountain. The villagers, kind-hearted and helpful, provided them with food, shelter, and called for medical help for Emma. Safe and sound, Lily, Jack, and Emma learned the true meaning of friendship and courage in the face of adversity. 词汇激活 行为类 ①查看:look through/go over ②找到:find/discover ③到达:reach/get to ④提供:provide/give/offer 情绪类 ①决心:determination/resolve/resolution ②高兴:joy/delight/happiness 【点睛】[高分句型1] Heart pounding with hope, they made their way towards it.
