In Middleboro, Massachusetts, a shop called Coffee Milano offers customers a very simple way to earn a cup of joe on the house --- if you dance for five seconds on your way in, you get a free coffee. Cafe owner Josh Rashid credits a different type of business for the idea. “We saw a pizza shop do it. And I’m like, ‘Let’s do that for coffee,”’ he said. “ Whoever shows up and dances gets a free coffee.” The idea has since become a smash hit with customers; however, it isn’t an everyday deal. The owner plans to do it only once a month. These “dance parties,” as Rashid calls them, are not advertised that far in advance. Even those who are perhaps too shy to bust a move but are around to catch the other dancing customers are getting an extra dose of joy in their day. “ I come here every day for coffee in the morning and lunch in the afternoon. We need a little more softness in this world for sure,” says customer John Murrayn. 21. The cafe owner Josh Rashid got the idea of giving free coffee from_______. B I keep a two-dollar bill in my wallet that was given to me by my mother when I was six years old. The bill goes with me wherever I go. My mother gave it to me so that luck would follow me everywhere. Although she passed away, I knew she would be watching over me the rest of my life. When I applied for my first job, I was thirty years old and very shy. The thought of being interviewed for a job was scary but I had to work. On my first interview, as I sat in the waiting room, I noticed there were five women ahead of me. All of the women were younger and very well-dressed. I knew I was up against women better qualified by looking at the length of their resumes. Ms Johnson, the office manager, summoned me into her office. “What makes you feel you are qualified for this job?” she asked. “I really need this job and there is nothing I cannot do,” I responded. She asked me a series of questions and the interview was over. As I exited her office, I turned around and said, “Ms Johnson, I know that I am not qualified like your other applicants, but please give me a chance. I learn quickly and can be a very productive member of your team.” I thanked her and went home exhausted. Oh well, I thought, tomorrow would be another day. That evening as I was getting ready for bed, I received a phone call from Ms Johnson. “Sara,” she said, “you were not the most qualified applicant, but you have so much confidence in yourself that we decided to give you a chance to prove yourself.” I screamed loud, jumping all over the room in disbelief. I could hear Ms Johnson laughing on the other end of the line. I got my wallet and took out my two-dollar bill. “Thanks mom, I am going to make it,” I said out loud so my mother could hear me. At that instant, I remembered the time she pulled me into the living room and said, “You are brilliant in my mind, and if you fail once don’t give up. Don’t fear failure. It is a way of getting us to try harder. You will succeed, I promise.” 24. The author decided to keep the two - dollar bill in her wallet because ______. What made the author think she was less qualified than other applicants? A. She was older. B. She was shy. C. She was poor. D. She had less work experience. 26. What does the underlined word "summoned" probably mean? A. ordered B. forced C. called D. pushed 27. Based on the text, what can we infer about Ms. Johnson's attitude towards the author? A. She was strict and critical. B. She was indifferent and cold. C. She was encouraging and supportive. D. She was impatient and rude. C Geothermal energy uses heat from underground reservoirs of hot water to produce electricity. Environmental experts see geothermal as a good source of clean energy because it can provide power 24 hours a day. Geothermal power plants also require little maintenance and can last for many years. Marit Brommer is head of the International Geothermal Association based in Germany. She told The Associated Press, “We're essentially standing on our own sun, which we can get clean, reliable energy from. In Southeast Asia, geothermal energy production is expected to increase ten times greater from 2020 to 2050, reaching 276 million megawatt-hours, the International Energy Agency says. After the U.S., Indonesia and the Philippines are the second and third-largest users of geothermal energy in the world. Both countries plan to expand their production of geothermal energy. However, developing new geothermal projects is costly and sometimes risky for companies when they test and drill to look for reservoirs. That makes it hard to get money for development, said Shigeru Yamamura, an energy specialist at the Asia Development Bank. The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources says it is working to shorten the wait time to get permits for new geothermal projects and also considering ways to increase the amount of money companies could make from the projects. The World Bank is providing a $150 million loan to increase Indonesian investments in geothermal energy. And the Green Climate Fund and the Clean Technology Fund are providing $127.5 million. Still, community pushback can slow development even when there is enough money. In Indonesia, villagers have protested geothermal projects. They say the projects are not safe and can harm the environment. Several geothermal projects in Indonesia have had deadly gas leaks in the past five years. In the Philippines, protests have led at least one company to pay money to Indigenous groups for the use of their lands. Brommer thinks governments and businesses should work with nearby communities. “We need to show that this development benefits all people, not just a company,”she said. “It's not about being a good neighbor; it's about being the best neighbor and really working with communities to respect their concerns.” 28. What do we know about geothermal energy from the first four paragraphs? A. Geothermal energy uses heat from the sun to produce electricity. B. Geothermal power plants don't need repairing and can last for many years. C. People can get clean, reliable Geothermal energy from the sun. D. Indonesia is the largest user of geothermal energy in Southeast Asia. 29. Which of the following is not a possible difficulty in developing new geothermal projects? A. It is expensive. B. It is dangerous. C. It is not supported by the local government. D. It is opposed by nearby communities. 30. According to Brommer, what is important in geothermal development? A. The knowledge of how to be the best neighbour B. The need to show people the benefits from geothermal development C. The cooperation among governments, companies and local communities D. The support from local communities 31. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Geothermal Development Faces Barriers in some Southeast Asian countries B. Indonesia and the Philippines Plan to Expand Their Production of Geothermal Energy C. Geothermal Energy - the Clean, Reliable Energy from Our Own Sun D. Geothermal Energy - the Environmentally Friendly Energy Used in Southeast Asia D The educational resources available to students at home play a crucial role in shaping both learning and well-being. Over the last decade, these resources have changed substantially due to shifts in education and society. Reading is vital for learning, but students now have access to fewer books at home, according to PISA data. The number of books available in the homes of 15-year-old students decreased between 2015 and 2022 on average across 59 countries and economies with comparable data, according to students’ answers to PISA questionnaires. Despite this decline, books continue to be available in most students’ homes. In 2022, some 30% of students reported having more than 100 books, on average, with a similar proportion reported having between 26 and 100 books. Dictionaries saw the most significant decline. In 2015, 92% of students reported having a dictionary at home, but by 2022 this dropped to 80%, with the steepest declines in Brazil, the Dominican Republic and Jordan. No country had an increase in dictionaries at home, but there was no significant change in Georgia. In contrast, the availability of classic literature (for example, Shakespeare or relevant classical authors in the country’s language) at home increased from 52% in 2015 to 63% in 2022, with the largest gains in Denmark, Ireland, Lithuania, Switzerland, and Türkiye. Only Indonesia and Peru saw a decrease in classic literature at home. The availability of educational software, by contrast, has increased rapidly. The proportion of families equipped with educational software increased from 53% in 2015 to 74% in 2022. Internet access and computers for schoolwork have remained widely available over the past decade. While there is potential for digital technologies to enhance education, this largely remains untapped, and the risks for adolescents’ well-being are clearer today. Education policy should explore ways to support families and students to navigate these complex changes in the family learning environment, balancing traditional and digital resources effectively. 32. What is the writing purpose of this article? A. To illustrate how educational resources shape students’ learning and well-being. B. To report how educational resources have changed at students’ home in the last decade C. To show how digital technologies affect students’ learning environment. D. To analyze how students gain access to educational resources at home 33.According to the text, in which country dictionaries at home saw the sharpest decrease? A. Jordan B. Georgia C. Denmark D. Indonesia 34. What is the author’s attitude towards the influence digital technologies have on traditional educational resources? A. uninterested. B. objective. C. unconcerned. D. subjective. 35. She had carefully prepared all her painting tools and materials the night before, repeatedly checking to ensure nothing was amiss. She'd even practiced drawing the park's flower beds from memory, longing to create a masterpiece that could win her the top prize. When she reached the park, she swiftly found an ideal spot beside a flower bed filled with various colorful blossoms. After setting up her easel(画架), adjusting it to the perfect height, and arranging her paints in her usual order, she began observing the scenery intently, aiming to capture both the appearance and the lively essence of the moment. Sadly, while she was completely concentrated on her painting, a young boy playing football nearby accidentally kicked the ball with hard force. The ball moved very fast towards Lily's easel like a missile and knocked over her paint palette(调色板). The paints spilled(泼洒)everywhere, spoiling her half-finished painting and staining her clothes. Lily was shocked and on the edge of tears. The boy rushed over, his face flushed with guilt(愧疚), and apologized over and over, offering to help clean up. But Lily knew the damage was unchangeable, and her hopes of winning the competition seemed to disappear in that instant. She felt a heavy lump(哽咽) in her throat as she was extremely sad at the loss of her cherished painting. 注意:1.所续写短文词数应为150左右; 2.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好。 Looking at the boy's sincere and regretful face, Lily took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ With the boy's help, Lily managed to make some adjustments to her painting. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 参考答案 1–5 BACBB 6–10 BACCA 11–15 CACAC 16–20 CABAB 21-23 BCC 24-27 DACC 28-30 DCCA 31-35 BABB 35-39 BGEDC 41-45 CDBAB 46-50:ACCDD 51-55:AABBC 56. passed 57. where 58. loss 59. cultural 60. a 61. including 62. to give 63. on 64. studying 65. have promoted 写作 第一节 The Classic Poetry Recitation Competition Last Friday night, the Classic Poetry Recitation Competition for senior one students was held in the school auditorium. The atmosphere was lively and exciting. Participants recited a wide range of classic Chinese poems with great passion. Their clear voices and vivid expressions brought those wonderful poems to life. Some students even dressed up in traditional costumes, adding to the charm of the event. I was deeply impressed. This competition not only let us appreciate the beauty of classic poetry but also enhanced our cultural awareness. It was really a meaningful and unforgettable activity. 第二节 Paragraph 1: Looking at the boy's sincere and regretful face, Lily took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down. She realized that getting angry wouldn't change anything. So she forced a smile and said, "It's okay. Accidents happen." With that, they began to rescue the paint by doing what they could. The boy carefully wiped off the excess paint as Lily directed him, his eyes full of concentration, trying to make up for his mistake. Paragraph 2: With the boy's help, Lily managed to make some adjustments to her painting. Though it couldn't be restored to its original state, it now had a unique charm with those accidental smudges. Lily's disappointment gradually turned into acceptance. In the end, she didn't win the competition, but she gained a new friend and learned that sometimes, unexpected things can bring different beauty. 听力材料 Text 1 M: Anna, I love my job! Because I can get so many free gifts from the bands I work for: CDs, T-shirts ... even tickets to see them perform! W: Wow, the only free gift I ever got from my job was this water bottle. Text 2 W: James, what are you doing in this picture? Is it a lesson? M: No, it isn’t. We couldn’t go to the playground because it rained that day, so we did some activities in the classroom. Text 3 M: You sold it? Oh no, I have been saving up for months to buy that guitar! W: I’m really sorry. I only sold it this morning to a young guy who was crazy about guitars. He was so excited. Text 4 W: Do you want to have a potato salad or fried rice for lunch? M: No, Mom. I need some energy for my afternoon classes. How about some fried eggs or a beef sandwich? Text 5 W: Have you decided which business school to apply to? M: I really want to go to Harvard Business School. So I’m just applying to that one. W: You are putting all your eggs in one basket. Don’t you think you should apply to more than one, just in case? Text 6 M: Excuse me, how much does this Bluetooth earphone cost? W: It is $200, but I can give you a 30% discount with some small free gifts. M: That sounds great! By the way, if there is something wrong with the earphone, can I change it for a new one? W: Yes, but you must return it within a month. M: Then is there a charge for that? I know other stores require a fee for that. W: There will be no charge at all. And we provide repair service free of charge. M: That’s great. I’ll take it. Text 7 M: Have you got anything exciting planned for the weekend? W: No, not really. I was planning to go round to Mary’s but unluckily she’s got a bad cold. So, I will play tennis with Peter on Saturday. M: If the weather lets you. W: And on Sunday I’m going to see my parents and eat out with them. Then I will do some light housework after I get back home. M: Oh, very busy. I don’t feel like going out. I prefer a lazy weekend because I’m going to take a business trip next Monday. Text 8 M: Mrs. Adams, are our group projects really due this Friday? My group is having trouble finding time to get together. W: What’s the difficulty, John? I thought two weeks was plenty of time for everyone. M: Well, Dana is on the swim Team. Greg is in the science club. And I’m in the chess club. Our activities meet at least twice each week, so we can never find a free day to meet right after school. W: What about evenings? M: Each of us has an evening job now. W: Well, the due date will be moved to next Tuesday. Will that help? M: Yes, very much! None of us have activities this Sunday. We can meet on that day. W: Good! If you don’t have enough time to do a progress report, don’t forget to turn in your project plan to me by this Thursday. Text 9 M: Can I help you? W: I’m interested in finding a two-bedroom flat. How much does it cost in these areas on average? M: Well, the most expensive neighborhoods would be in the eastern part of the city, where you would be paying about $650 a month. In western and southern areas, $380 a month. The north, $180 a month. W: What are the advantages and disadvantages of these areas? M: There are lots of parks all around the eastern part of the city. In the south you’ve got a beach, and there are many factories alongside the beach. The northern area is made up of wetlands. It’s beautiful in one way, but it attracts many insects. So few people have any real wish to live in the neighborhoods there. W: Can you show me some flats in western and southern areas? M: OK. Here are some photos. And I’ll search for more information on the computer. Text 10 W: Good evening, this is Jane Lemming with your First Minute of the Hour News report. We’ve only got 60 seconds, so listen up! Green Hills Foods Company is pulling (取消) 1.5 million pounds of meat from grocery store shelves. About 20 people have gotten sick from eating the meat so far. If you’ve bought any chicken or beef from this company in the past month, throw it out immediately. Next on our list is a brief traffic report. All roads in the Santa Rosa area are clear, except for Highway 5, near the Main Street entrance. There is a traffic jam on the entrance because of the book fair this weekend. Speaking of the book fair, it starts tomorrow — that’s Friday — at 5:00 pm, and continues through Sunday at 8:00 pm. For those of you from out of town, turn left on Main Street and go until you hit State Street. Take another left and continue for a mile. The fair grounds are on the right. That’s all the news we have for the next 59 minutes! 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
