B Until recently, most evenings, after my kid had finally fallen asleep, I would sink into the sofa, turn on Netflix, and watch episode after episode until either my exhaustion or my husband would call time on this pitiful sight. Turning the television off, I'd experience a surge of self-disgust at how dry my eyes felt, and disappointment that the whole evening had disappeared. I would be momentarily but overwhelmingly surprised by my re-entry into a world in which there were no socially-awkward-but-brilliant private detectives, but just a dishwasher that needed loading and a child who would be waking all too soon. I felt crushed by this return to my life. I started to think more about what was happening as I turned the TV on — why I would plan to watch just one episode, but when I came to the end of it, I'd find myself unable to stop. It was as if I had no space in my mind to make any other choice; I was swallowing up episodes without digesting them, without even chewing them over, swallowing each one whole. There is a way of consuming TV, and perhaps everything, that makes it very difficult to feel what the“right amount” is, because it is more about getting away from something, rather than digesting something. Of course, we all need a little escapism every now and then. But if we escape ourselves completely, and for too long, we can lose touch with the ordinary, deeply meaningful moments of our day-to-day lives, such as cooking a nice meal for dinner. Between my child and my job and my odd detective TV shows, I have not been very good at cooking. Eating has come to feel like something I do to survive, rather than something I enjoy. I've lost my appetite—not in the sense of not being hungry, but in the sense of losing contact with a part of myself — my appetite for life. Recently, I decided to have a night off from watching TV. I didn't turn it on and I was amazed by how much time I had. I tidied the kitchen and felt satisfied by the ordinary, everyday experience of contributing something useful to family life, rather than escaping it. I felt I wanted more evenings like that, and not so many lost in TV. But does it have to be all or nothing? Or can I stay in contact with my appetite and find my way to an amount that feels right? 4. Why did the author feel disappointed when turning the TV off? A. Because her eyes felt dry. B. Because her child would wake soon. C. Because the whole evening had been wasted. D. Because her husband put an end to the night. 5. What may happen if we escape ourselves thoroughly? A. Getting away from watching TV. B. Missing daily highlights. C. Avoiding a chance to survive. D. Losing touch with detectives. 6. Which of the following can best describe the author? A. Self-reflective and sensible. B. Self-content and honest. C. Thoughtful and modest. D. Talented and passionate. 7. What can be the best title for the text? A. What is a wasteful night? B. How can you relax at night? C. How can you regain your appetite for life? D. What do you feel exhausted about? C Due to social events in recent years, the relationship between social media and teenagers mental health has been under heated discussion. On Sept. 30, a British court decided that content on social media platforms led to the depression (抑郁) of 14-year-old Molly Russell. Russell interacted with 2,100 posts related to pessimistic (悲观) and self-harm in the six months, leading up to her depression, reported the Observer website. The correlation has also been proved by science. A study in 2019 showed that the frequent use of social media by teenagers can lead to a decrease in their mental health. So, how can we make sure that teenagers won’t get hurt while using social media? Chan,18, from the University of Macao shared her experience. Chan said that she one cam e across short videos romanticizing (浪漫化) mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety. She immediately reported them to the platform. But she said that the users’ power to control videos is still limited. “It is ultimately the responsibility of the social media platforms to get rid of content that is potentially harmful.” She also noticed that the age of social media users has become increasingly younger. Society should pay attention to this, she said. “Since it’s not possible to cut off access to social media for younger users, why not introduce a ‘supervision mode’ (监管模式) with which parents can regulate the content to be viewed by teenagers beforehand?” she said. Wu Chengyu, 18, studies at Tianjin Experimental High School. He said that several years ago he came across a game that attracts teenagers to self-abuse and depression. He quickly chose to ignore it so he wouldn’t be influenced. This is the same way he reacts when exposed to negative content on social media. In Wu’s opinion, teenagers today should improve their social media literacy (素养), telling real from fake and good from bad. “Also, everyone can be a content creator on social media.” he said. “We should all strengthen our awareness of ethics”. 8. What led to Russell’s depression according to a British court? A. Her interaction with others online. B. Negative information on social media platforms. C. Short videos she watched on the Internet. D. Her addiction to online posts. 9. Which of the following statements does Chan probably agree with? A A supervision mode ought to be introduced by parents. B. The number of younger social media users should be limited. C. It is the responsibility of the society to romanticize mental illnesses. D. Parents should monitor the content to be viewed by teenagers in advance. 10. Who should be ultimately responsible for removing negative content according to Chan? A. Parents. B. Schools. C. Social media platforms. D. Content creators. 11. What does Wu suggest teenagers should do? A. Use social media wisely. B. Reduce social media usage. C. Stay away from online games. D. Learn more about social media. D Brazilian artist and activist Mundano recently painted an unusual mural (壁画) on a building in Sao Paulo. The paint included materials collected from natural disasters, such as ash from wildfires and mud from floods. Mundano hoped to draw global attention to climate change, as extreme weather events have been causing destruction across Brazil. The large mural — over 30 meters high and 48 meters wide-shows the gray remains of trees on a brown land that is dry and cracked, representing the deforestation (滥伐森林) and serious drought in the Amazon rainforest. The mural also shows local activist Alessandra Korap wearing a circle of flowers around her head. She holds a sign that says: “Stop the destruction #keep your promise.” The artist says those messages are directed to Cargill, a US-based soybean (大豆) producer. Soy farming is one of the biggest causes of deforestation in the Amazon. Cargill says it will end deforestation in its supply chain in Brazil by 2025. Mundano is seeking to hold the company responsible for that promise. In recent months, human-caused wildfires have severely damaged protected places in the Amazon area. Smoke spread over a very large area and affected the air quality in some Brazilian cities. Drought has caused a terrible situation nationwide. On October 22, the depth of the Amazon’s Negro River measured (测量) 12.46 meters, showing a small increase from 10 days earlier, when the river was at its lowest point since measurements started 122 years ago. But this last reported measure is still about 6 meters below normal for the same date in earlier years. Earlier this year, a flood in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul killed more than 180people, affected over 2 million people, and destroyed city communities. Mundano used mud from that flood to create the mural, ashes from Brazil’s fires in the Atlantic Forest, and clay from an Amazon village where Alessandra Korap is from. “From floods to droughts, everything is connected!” Mundano said in an interview. 12. What makes the mural unique? A. Its size. B. Its paint. C. Its colors. D. Its audience. 13. Why does Mundano include Alessandra Korap in his mural? A. To push Cargill to honor its promise. B. To celebrate Brazil’s natural beauty. C. To draw attention to global warming. D. To show the importance of soybeans. 14. What can we learn about the Negro River? A. A flood here took over 180 lives. B. Its depth hit a record low on Oct. 22. C. It was 6.46m deep 122 years ago. D. It has suffered greatly from drought. 15. What is implied in Mundano’s actions and words in the last paragraph? A. Climate disasters are closely related. B. The Amazon is home to great civilizations. C. Natural materials are perfect for painting. D. Floods and droughts are the worst disasters. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Classroom environments play a crucial role in students’ learning experiences. Enjoying a swim at their local beach was once a daily pleasure for them. But when Melati was fifteen, and Isabel just ten, the sisters started to lose their enthusiasm for swimming in the waters near their borne. More often than not, plastic bags would be around them as they swam and some were scattered on the beach. They got really upset about that. Melati didn’t think much about it until one day her teacher gave a lesson on some world heroes. Each of those people had sparked movements of positive changes in the world. They believed in the impact they could have and they did inspire more people to do something meaningful. After school, Melati walked home slowly in silence, concerned about the vast amount of plastic rubbish on the beach. The heroes crossed her mind. If they could do it, we could do it too, she thought. The idea lit her up. She couldn’t wait to share what she thought with Isabel and quickened her pace. “So many plastic bags around! The beach is dirty and messy! It’s so terrible! We have lost the clean and beautiful beach. Can’t we do something to get it back?” Melati said heartily. Isabel felt a bit puzzled at what to do, but she also had a strong desire to do something. Picturing a beach as fascinating as before in mind, the pair jumped with joy. They talked a lot, anxious to know how Dad and Mom would respond to their ideas. That night when the family sat by the dinner table, the sisters eagerly got their ideas across. While Mom and Dad listened to the girls carefully, their eyes shone. “How amazing that would be! We are so proud of you!” Dad exclaimed. Mom came up, gave them a thumb up and hugged the sisters. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Melati and Isabel decided to make a positive impact straight away. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ One month later, Melati received a call from the local newspaper. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2024-2025学年度第二学期3月份月考试卷 高二英语 (考试时间120分钟,满分130分) 第一部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 A 【1~3题答案】 【答案】1. This is an exceptionally noble and rewarding decision. Both the local community library assistance and the beach clean-up project organized by the environmental organization are outstanding options, each possessing its own unique advantages. The library option allows you to interact with various people, help with book arrangement and run reading clubs, improving your communication with others. Plus, you can immerse yourself in books. The beach clean-up project, on the contrary, lets you work outdoors, protect the environment and learn about ecosystems. If you prefer indoor, book-related work, go for the library. If you love nature and hands-on work, choose the beach clean-up. No matter which one you choose, I’m sure you’ll have a great time! Best regards, Li Hua 第二节(满分25分) 【57题答案】 【答案】Melati and Isabel decided to make a positive impact straight away. They took advantage of their spare time to pick up rubbish on the beach. However, it was soon that they realized that they couldn't solve the problem on their own for there was so much plastic. After discussions and preparations, they started an organization to spread their idea among youth, involving more youths in the movement, which proved to be a hit. More and more teenagers took part. In a month, they altogether collected and recycled 2.5 tons of plastic, recovering the beautiful beach. One month later, Melati received a call from the local newspaper. The two girls were invited to an interview in which they were asked what inspired them to start the organization, what the biggest challenges are and what advice they have for young people who want to make changes in this world. They said a team is what keeps them going on the challenging days and added, “keeping our team engaged and motivated has been a challenge and we are happy to have a positive influence.” Melati and Isabel are heroes who make a big difference to our world. 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
