B When you think about who’s responsible for a city’s safety, what people come to mind? Police officers, firefighters or emergency response teams? Would you put your local meteorologist (气象预报员) in this group? That’s the career Ashley Ruiz chose, and she’s now the first female chief meteorologist in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Ruiz predicts the weather for her community. In 2020, a tornado hit Ruiz’s hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee — and, even closer to home, her house. So she said she knew what a lifesaving job this could be. However, her job isn’t without difficulties. “Hearing people have been injured, like in a big hurricane, is really hard,” she said. “We try our best to predict the weather as best as we can, and we are getting better. But it can always change.” Ruiz talked about the new and changing weather patterns. She said “We are absolutely seeing changes in weather, with more intense and more frequent storms, which relate to climate change.” Weather is changing everywhere, as the planet warms. There are more frequent droughts, stronger storms, and increasing temperature changes. This makes predicting the weather difficult. Ruiz always knew she was interested in weather and how it affected the world. But her path to a career in meteorology wasn’t easy. She said, “I struggled so hard with math and wanted to give up. But I kept pushing and working hard, and now I’m the first woman chief meteorologist in the Baton Rouge TV market. I’m proud of that.” She wants kids to know they should never give up on their education or their dreams. 4. Why was the disaster in Ruiz’s hometown mentioned in the text? A. To call on people to prepare for disasters. B. To introduce Ruiz’s unusual childhood experience. C. To offer a successful example of weather forecast. D. To show Ruiz’s understanding of the work of a meteorologist. 5. What is a challenge of predicting the weather according to the text? A. Climate change. B. People’s injury. C. Poor technology. D. Lack of experience. 6. Which word can best describe Ruiz according to the last paragraph? A. Creative. B. Clever. C. Hard-working. D. World-famous. 7. In which section of a newspaper may the text appear? A. Sports. B. People. C. Education. D. Health. C People who have trouble walking often have a hard time enjoying the beach. But hundreds of beaches in Greece now offer a new way for people in wheelchairs to get into the water by themselves. It’s called Seatrac. Seatrac is basically a chair on a moving ramp (轻便梯) that can smoothly carry a disabled person into the sea. Once in the sea, the person can either remain in the chair, enjoying the water or go for a swim. The Seatrac system can also help anyone else who has a hard time walking, including older people and pregnant women. Seatrac was invented and developed in Greece. The idea for it came when one of the inventors, Ignatios Fotiou, was talking with a friend who used a wheelchair. The friend said he enjoyed the sea, but didn’t like having to be carried into the ocean as if he were a sack (袋) of potatoes. Mr. Fotiou realized that there must be a way to make it easier for wheelchair users to get into the water. Mr. Fotiou worked with his partner and a professor at a Greek university to design the system. In time, they formed a company called TOBEA to build and sell it. The company worked hard to make the system simple to put in place and easy to run. A wooden walkway allows wheelchair users to reach the Seatrac. The system is solar-powered. It doesn’t require outside power and can continue to run even if the electricity goes out. The Seatrac system can easily be packed up and stored when the swimming season ends. This summer, the Seatrac system is being used at over 220 beaches in Greece, Cyprus, Italy and Latvia. TOBEA hopes to offer Seatrac in other countries soon. The Seatrac service in Greece is being offered for free. The Greek government has helped pay for it, with local cities buying and managing the equipment. Greece’s government hopes that Seatrac will help attract more tourists to the country. 8. Who is Seatrac designed for? A. Older people who move freely. B. Youths who like to swim in the sea. C. Women who enjoy beach baths with their children. D. People who have trouble moving around on the beach. 9. What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 4 refer to? A. The system. B. Potato. C. Ramp. D. Normal wheelchair. 10. What can we learn about the Seatrac system? A. It’s not easy to operate. B. Users don’t have to worry about charging it. C. People need to have a big cost to use it in Greece. D. It has been available at more than one thousand beaches. 11. Why does the Greek government help pay for the Seatrac service? A. To improve the government’s image. B. To promote the development of tourism. C. To set up an organization for the disabled. D. To support small and medium-sized local companies. D In late June, the US government agreed to allow two companies, Upside Foods and Good Meat, to sell chicken meat that has been grown in a laboratory. That makes the US the second country to approve lab-grown chicken. Unlike normal chicken meat, lab-grown meat isn’t created by raising and killing chickens. Instead, it’s a meat product developed from animal cells that are grown in a lab. So it is also called “cell-based” or “cultured” meat. The process of creating lab-grown meat is completely different from the normal meat-raising process. The first cells come from live animals. The cells are grown inside large steel tanks, where they’re fed with everything they need to grow. In a few weeks, the cells grow to look like normal meat. The companies then form this meat into more familiar shapes. The companies say that their meat is better for the environment than meat from animals. Raising animals for food uses huge amounts of land and water. It also creates a lot of pollution. Raising animals for food creates about 15% of the world’s greenhouse gases. That’s why cutting back on eating meat is one of the easiest ways to fight climate change. Lab-grown meat can also help out in other ways. Raising animals for food is extremely hard on animals. They are often kept in small spaces and are treated badly. Polls (民意调查) have shown that many people aren’t too interested in lab-grown meat. Lots of people believe that it just sounds weird. But Amy Chen, who works for Upside Foods, says that once people try the meat, “The most common response we get is, ‘Oh, it tastes like chicken.’” But right now, the meat is far more expensive than meat from animals. Even though the companies have been approved, they have the huge challenge of figuring out how to make much more meat far more cheaply. 12. What can we know about lab-grown chicken meat? A. It is created from animal cells in a laboratory. B. It is cheaper than the normal meat. C. America is the first country to approve selling it. D. Two companies are allowed to do research on it. 13. What is paragraph 5 mainly about? A. The necessity of eating normal meat. B. The process of creating lab-grown meat. C. The disadvantages of raising animals for food. D. The similarities between lab-grown meat and normal meat. 14. What does the underlined word “weird” in paragraph 6 mean? A. Easy. B. Ordinary. C. Strange. D. Attractive. 15. What is the best title for the text? A. Lab-grown Meat Is Outdated B. What Exactly Is Lab-grown Meat? C. How Is the Lab-grown Chicken Made? D. Lab-grown Chicken Meat Is Coming So you want to know how to look more confident and think body language is the key? He used to live with his parents. He was frustrated with his parents blaming him for every little thing he did at home. While waiting for the interview, he was thinking, “Only if I succeed in today’s interview will I say goodbye to my parents’ house and settle down in the big city, which will let me avoid having to listen to my parents’ complaints about little things all the time.” He started thinking about little things his parents used to blame him for— How his mother asked him to make his bed after he woke up. If he left the bathroom door open, his mother would ask him to close the door and before that check if the tap was turned off properly. How his father asked him to switch off the fan or light switch before he left. How his mother always blamed him for not keeping things at the right places. While thinking about all these, he thought, “Why should I listen to their words? Why should I do all these? If I get a job, I will definitely leave their home.” When looking around, Max saw that there were many candidates (应试者) sitting in that office. He saw that the light in the office was still on and it was ten o’clock in the morning. Remembering his father’s words, he got up and switched off the light. When he saw that water was falling from the water cooler kept at the office, he went to turn off the tap properly. It was time to go up to the second floor for the interview, everyone went upstairs in turn. On the way up the stairs, a chair stood in the way, and the other candidates bypassed it, but Max removed it, set it aside, and walked to the second floor. Now, as Max waited outside, he saw the candidates in front of him keep going in and coming out immediately. After talking to these people, he learned that the interviewers didn’t ask them anything. It was Max’s turn to be interviewed. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After the interview, Max reached home and hugged his parents. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 绥阳县2024年秋季学期期末考试 高二英语试卷 考生注意: 1. 1. She said, “We are absolutely seeing changes in weather, with more intense and more frequent storms, which relate to climate change.” Weather is changing everywhere, as the planet warms. 7. D 9. A 10. B 11. 根据第一段“People who have trouble walking often have a hard time enjoying the beach. But hundreds of beaches in Greece now offer a new way for people in wheelchairs to get into the water by themselves. Fotiou worked with his partner and a professor at a Greek university to design the system.(福蒂欧和他的搭档以及希腊一所大学的教授一起设计了这个系统。)” 故选A项。 根据第五段中的“The system is solar-powered. It doesn’t require outside power and can continue to run even if the electricity goes out.(该系统是太阳能驱动的。 根据最后一段中的“The Greek government has helped pay for it, with local cities buying and managing the equipment. Greece’s government hopes that Seatrac will help attract more tourists to the country.(希腊政府帮助支付了这笔费用,由当地城市购买和管理设备。 D In late June, the US government agreed to allow two companies, Upside Foods and Good Meat, to sell chicken meat that has been grown in a laboratory. A The necessity of eating normal meat. D. Lab-grown Chicken Meat Is Coming 【答案】12. A 13. C 14. C 15. 根据文章第二段“Unlike normal chicken meat, lab-grown meat isn’t created by raising and killing chickens. Instead, it’s a meat product developed from animal cells that are grown in a lab. So it is also called “cell-based” or “cultured” meat.(与普通的鸡肉不同,实验室培育的肉并不是通过饲养和宰杀鸡只来获得的。 故选A。 根据文章第五段“Raising animals for food uses huge amounts of land and water. They are often kept in small spaces and are treated badly.(饲养动物作为食物会消耗大量的土地和水资源。 根据划线单词上文“Polls (民意调查) have shown that many people aren’t too interested in lab-grown meat.(民意调查显示许多人对实验室培育的肉类并不太感兴趣。)” 再根据下文“But Amy Chen, who works for Upside Foods, says that once people try the meat, “The most common response we get is, ‘Oh, it tastes like chicken.’”(但 Upside Foods 的Amy Chen表示,一旦人们尝过这种肉,“我们得到的最常见的回应是,‘哦,它的味道就像鸡肉。’”)” 根据文章第一段“In late June, the US government agreed to allow two companies, Upside Foods and Good Meat, to sell chicken meat that has been grown in a laboratory. That makes the US the second country to approve lab-grown chicken.(六月底,美国政府同意允许两家公司 Upside Foods 和 Good Meat 销售在实验室培育的鸡肉。 So you want to know how to look more confident and think body language is the key? Store manager Liu Jianjun ____44____ (express) his satisfaction with recent sales and said, “In recent days, customers have been waiting outside the store even before ____45____ (open) hours, with the staff working tirelessly from morning till afternoon.” 36. arrival 37. the 38. known 39. for 40. that##which 41. dishes 42. greatly 43. to buy 44. expressed 45. opening 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 故填the。 make up for意为“补偿”,为固定搭配。故填for。 故填that/which。 故填to buy。 opening hours“(商店、银行、酒吧等的)营业时间”。 Dear Robert, ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yours, Li Hua 【答案】Dear Robert, Hearing that you are interested in future technology, I’m writing to invite you to the Facing the Future tech exhibition at our city museum this Saturday. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: It was Max’s turn to be interviewed. He went inside and passed his file to the interviewers. After looking at his file, an interviewer asked, “When are you joining?” A wave of surprise flooded into Max’s mind. Looking at his face, the interviewer said, “Today, in interviews, no one was asked anything. We noticed everyone came but no one switched off the tap or light except you. You have good values and habits. This is what we evaluate most.” After the interview, Max reached home and hugged his parents. He told them about the interview and the result. He apologized to them and thanked them. He said, “In my life, my degree has less value in comparison to the lessons I have learned from you because of your strict demand on small matters. Today, I come to know that not only education but good habits and values have their own importance if I want to succeed in life. A person who doesn’t have self-disciplines, no matter how smart he is, can’t succeed in his life.” 词汇激活 行为类 ①询问:ask/inquire ②道歉:apologize/make an apology ③看重:evaluate/value 情绪类 ①感谢:thank/show gratitude to ②聪明:smart/clever 【点睛】[高分句型1] We noticed everyone came but no one switched off the tap or light except you. (运用了省略引导词that的宾语从句作noticed的宾语) [高分句型2] This is what we evaluate most.
