The Booderee National Park It offers a protected habitat (栖息地) for native wildlife against high cliffs and white beaches. While summer is good for visiting due to the excellent weather, a special event takes place in June and July when whales come back with their babies. Educational tours are fit for school groups to get close to nature. There are a range of activities such as camping, diving and nature walks. The Norfolk Island National Park The history of the Park is eye-catching, so you might want to check out how Captain James Cook got here and why. You can picnic and have a nice barbecue around the highest point on the island, Mount Bates. Another tourist attraction is Phillip Island, six kilometers away from Norfolk, home to many seabirds. The Uluru National Park If you’re into learning more about Aboriginals (土著居民) and their influence on the world, you mustn’t miss it, where Tjukurpa stories come from about native songs and dances. The rocks here are extremely loved because they seem to change color during sunrise and sunset. So the spot is also great for walking, considering the knowledge and stories on the rocks’ shapes and purpose for humans. The Kakadu National Park It has the longest historical records of Aboriginal people living there, which have been carved in the rock art made by Indigenous civilizations over the years. The Park has remarkable rivers and floodplains that go through the rich ecosystem. With more than 280 species of birds, 117 reptile species and 74 mammals, the park is a joy to the eye of the traveler. 1. What makes the Booderee National Park special? A. Whales’ return. B. Nature walks. C. Wildlife habitat. D. Educational tours. 2. Where can you learn about Captain James Cook? A The Uluru National Park. B. The Kakadu National Park. C. The Booderee National Park. D. The Norfolk Island National Park. 3. What do the Uluru National Park and the Kakadu National Park have in common? A. Rock colors. B. Rock shapes. C. Native culture. D. Rich wildlife. A 2. D 3. 根据The Booderee National Park中“While summer is good for visiting due to the excellent weather, a special event takes place in June and July when whales come back with their babies. (由于天气好,夏天是游览的好季节,而6月和7月会有一个特别的活动,那时鲸鱼带着它们的孩子回来)”可知,波特里国家公园的特别之处在于冬季鲸鱼的返回。故选A项。 根据The Norfolk Island National Park中“The history of the Park is eye-catching, so you might want to check out how Captain James Cook got here and why. (公园的历史是引人注目的,所以你可能想看看James Cook船长是如何来到这里的,以及为什么来到这里)”可知,在诺福克岛国家公园,你可以了解James Cook船长的相关信息。故选D项。 【3题详解】 细节理解题。根据The Uluru National Park中“If you’re into learning more about Aboriginals (土著居民) and their influence on the world, you mustn’t miss it, where Tjukurpa stories come from about native songs and dances. (如果你想更多地了解土著居民及其对世界的影响,你一定不能错过这里,Tjukurpa的故事来自当地的歌曲和舞蹈)”和The Kakadu National Park中“It has the longest historical records of Aboriginal people living there, which have been carved in the rock art made by Indigenous civilizations over the years. (土著居民居住在这里的历史记录是最悠久的,这些记录被土著文明多年来雕刻在岩石艺术上)”知,乌鲁鲁国家公园和卡卡杜国家公园的共同之处在于两者都拥有本土文化。故选C项。 B On the 25th of December, my mother expected her children to be present, exchanging gifts and eating turkey. But as an artist and daughter, my heart seemed to be more in my work as an artist. As for my mother and my family, I thought we would have more time to spend Christmas together. I was going to do my own thing. I made plans for my winter adventure in New Hampshire. The MacDowell Colony (麦道尔艺术村) was everything I could have wished for. About 20 to 30 artists were present, and it was as captivating as I had imagined. Snowy New England, sledding (滑雪橇) and whisky! It felt like my life had become an unexpected independent film. By Christmas Eve, I had been at the colony more than a week. The fresh feelings were wearing off, but I would never admit it. Everyone around me was having too much fun—drinks and deep conversations by the fireplace. It seemed so amazing! What was wrong with me? This was the holiday I’d always dreamed of. No plastic reindeer. Not a Christmas sweater anywhere in sight. People here didn’t even say “Christmas”, but they said “holiday”. Then why was I so down? Finally, I called home. My dad answered. He told me that my mother was out shopping with my brothers. I found there was a fire in my heart. They were having a fine Christmas without me? Didn’t they miss me? How could they? Despite a serious snowstorm, a large package with my mother’s beautiful handwriting showed up near my door at the artist colony on Christmas morning. I seized it as if I had been five years old. Inside was my favorite cake. As I sliced (切) the cake, everyone gathered around —young and old. My mother had sent a real homemade gift. It was a minor Christmas miracle that one cake managed to feed so many. We ate it from paper towels with our hands, satisfying a hunger we didn’t know we had and reminding us of our dear families, who must be missing us too. 4. Why was the author unwilling to spend Christmas at home? A. She met some trouble at work. B. She wanted to focus on her career. C. She had disagreements with her mother. D. She was tired of staying at a familiar place. 5. What does the underlined word “captivating” in Paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Attractive. B. Tough. C. Strange. D. Simple. 6. What can we learn about the artist colony from Paragraph 3? A. It attracted many sports lovers. B. It was suitable for holiday parties. C. It lacked the Christmas atmosphere. D. It gave the author some artistic ideas. 7. What did the author mainly intend to express in the last two paragraphs? A. She learned to be open to others. B. She enjoyed bringing kindness to strangers. C. Her mother was good at taking care of her family. D. Her mother’s cake cured the artists of their homesickness. B 5. A 6. C 7. 根据第一段“On the 25th of December, my mother expected her children to be present, exchanging gifts and eating turkey. But as an artist and daughter, my heart seemed to be more in my work as an artist. As for my mother and my family, I thought we would have more time to spend Christmas together. I was going to do my own thing. (12月25日,我母亲期待她的孩子们都在场,交换礼物和吃火鸡。但作为一个艺术家和女儿,我的心似乎更多地在我作为一名艺术家的工作中。至于我的母亲和我的家人,我想我们会有更多的时间一起度过圣诞节。我要做我自己的事情。)”可知,即使是圣诞节这个全家团聚的时候,作者更在意自己的事业。故选B项。 【5题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第二段的第二句开始“The MacDowell Colony (麦道尔艺术村) was everything I could have wished for. About 20 to 30 artists were present, and it was as captivating as I had imagined. Snowy New England, sledding (滑雪橇) and whisky! It felt like my life had become an unexpected independent film. (麦道尔艺术村是我所希望的一切。大约有20到30位艺术家在场,这和我想象的一样captivating。白雪皑皑的新英格兰,滑雪橇和威士忌!感觉我的生活变成了一部意想不到的独立电影。)”可知,麦道尔艺术村是作者梦寐以求的地方,有很多吸引作者的元素。因此猜测captivating意为“吸引”,与A项Attractive意思相近,故选A项。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段第三句开始“Everyone around me was having too much fun—drinks and deep conversations by the fireplace. It seemed so amazing! What was wrong with me? This was the holiday I’d always dreamed of. No plastic reindeer. Not a Christmas sweater anywhere in sight. People here didn’t even say “Christmas”, but they said “holiday”. Then why was I so down? 根据最后第二段“Despite a serious snowstorm, a large package with my mother’s beautiful handwriting showed up near my door at the artist colony on Christmas morning. I seized it as if I had been five years old. Inside was my favorite cake. (尽管暴风雪肆虐,圣诞节的早晨,一个写着我母亲美丽笔迹的大包裹出现在艺术家聚居地的我的门口。我抓住了它,就好像我五岁一样。里面是我最喜欢的蛋糕。)”,以及最后一段“As I sliced (切) the cake, everyone gathered around —young and old. My mother had sent a real homemade gift. It was a minor Christmas miracle that one cake managed to feed so many. We ate it from paper towels with our hands, satisfying a hunger we didn’t know we had and reminding us of our dear families, who must be missing us too. (当我切蛋糕时,每个人都围了过来——无论老少。我母亲送来了一份真正的自制礼物。一个蛋糕能喂饱这么多人,真是个小小的圣诞奇迹。我们用手从纸巾上吃它,满足了我们不知道的饥饿感,并提醒我们:亲爱的家人,他们一定也在想念我们。)”可知,一块家里制作的圣诞蛋糕,让这一群艺术家想起了家人,治愈了艺术家们的思乡病。故选D项。 C “Is the glass half empty or half full?” This old English saying has long been used to tell a pessimist from an optimist. For most young people today, the answer is usually “half full”, because we have been taught that a positive attitude towards life is one of the primary keys to success. However, is this necessarily a good thing? Recent studies indicate that it all depends. There is such a thing as too much positivity. It happens when someone remains in a happy and positive state and ignores any bad and negative emotions across all situations. But as a matter of fact, it is normal for us to experience any emotions. The death of a pet or loved one, a low score on a test, or a mountain of new homework should lead to emotions such as sadness, frustration and anger. If we hide these emotions just because we want to look optimistic in front of our friends and family, they can build up inside of us and end up erupting in unexpected ways. There is new evidence to suggest that many of these overly positive people are at a risk of developing drug or alcohol addictions as well as other psychological problems. Aside from the personal emotional impacts, this attitude can also have a negative effect on the people around you. Imagine having had a bad day, and wanting to talk about it with your friend. However, instead of listening to your problems and sympathizing with you, they simply told you to “be positive” and give you the impression that your problems are being completely ignored. Just take everything as it comes and express how you really feel. This makes you human, and your true friends will always stick by you. So my simple advice to you is to do what gives you the best “attitude” in life, whatever for you that might be. Regardless of whether a glass is half-empty or half-full, it nonetheless still has space to fill. 8. Why does the writer mention the glass at the beginning of the text? A. To give some evidence. B. To introduce the topic. C. To present an argument. D. To explain his ideas. 9. What is the writer’s attitude to the person who remains positive across all situations? A. Negative. B. Supportive. C. Doubtful. D. Unclear. 10. What is the main idea of paragraph 3? A The cause of overly positivity. B. The prevention of overly positivity. C. The bad effect of overly positivity on others. D. The bad impacts of overly positivity on personal emotion. 11. Which of the following may the writer agree with? A. Positivity is the key to success. B. We needn’t stay positive all the time. C. There isn’t such a thing as overly positive. D. Positivity always does a harm effect to our lives. B 9. A 10. C 11. 根据第一段““Is the glass half empty or half full?” This old English saying has long been used to tell a pessimist from an optimist. For most young people today, the answer is usually “half full”, because we have been taught that a positive attitude towards life is one of the primary keys to success. (“杯子是半空的还是半满的?”这句古老的英语谚语一直被用来区分悲观主义者和乐观主义者。对于今天的大多数年轻人来说,答案通常是“半满”,因为我们一直被教导积极的生活态度是成功的主要关键之一)”和第二段中的“But as a matter of fact, it is normal for us to experience any emotions. (但事实上,我们经历任何情绪都是正常的。宠物或爱人去世,考试成绩不佳,或者堆积如山的新作业,这些都应该导致悲伤、沮丧和愤怒等情绪。如果我们仅仅因为想在朋友和家人面前显得乐观而隐藏这些情绪,它们就会在我们内心积聚,最终以意想不到的方式爆发。有新的证据表明,许多过于乐观的人有吸毒或酗酒成瘾的风险,也有其他心理问题。)”及第三段中的“Aside from the personal emotional impacts, this attitude can also have a negative effect on the people around you. (除了对个人情感的影响,这种态度也会对你周围的人产生负面影响。)”可知,作者在第一段提到那杯水是为了引出话题,即过度积极会对自己和身边的人产生消极影响。故选B。 【9题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段中的“But as a matter of fact, it is normal for us to experience any emotions. The death of a pet or loved one, a low score on a test, or a mountain of new homework should lead to emotions such as sadness, frustration and anger. (除了对个人情感的影响,这种态度也会对你周围的人产生负面影响。想象一下,有一天过得很糟糕,你想和你的朋友谈谈。然而,他们不是倾听你的问题,同情你,而是简单地告诉你要“积极”,给你的印象是你的问题完全被忽视了)”可知,作者在这两段分别阐述了过度积极对自己和身边的人的消极影响。可知,作者对于在任何情况下都保持积极状态的人持不赞同的态度。故选A。 根据第三段中的“Aside from the personal emotional impacts, this attitude can also have a negative effect on the people around you.(除了对个人情感的影响,这种态度也会对你周围的人产生负面影响。)” 通读全文,尤其是根据第三段中的“Aside from the personal emotional impacts, this attitude can also have a negative effect on the people around you. (除了对个人情感的影响,这种态度也会对你周围的人产生负面影响。)”可知,本文主要介绍了过度积极会对自己和身边的人产生消极影响。由此可推知,作者可能会赞同“We needn’t stay positive all the time. (我们不需要时刻保持积极)”这一观点。故选B。 D Superhuman artificial intelligence is already among us. Well, sort of. When it comes to playing games like chess and Go, or solving difficult scientific challenges like predicting protein structures, computers are well ahead of us. But we have one superpower they aren’t close to mastering: mind reading. Humans have a mysterious ability to reason the goals, desires and beliefs of others, a crucial skill that means we can anticipate other people’s actions and the consequences of our own. Reading minds comes so easily to us, though, that we often don’t think to spell out what we want. If AIs are to become truly useful in everyday life—to cooperate effectively with us or to understand that a child might run into the road after a bouncing ball—we have to give them this gift that evolution has given us to read other people’s minds. Psychologists refer to the ability to infer another’s mental state as theory of mind. In humans, this capacity starts to develop at a very young age. How to reproduce the capability in machines is far from clear, though. One of the main challenges is context. For instance, if someone asks whether you are going for a run and you reply “it’s raining”, they can quickly conclude that the answer is no. But this requires huge amounts of background knowledge about running, weather and human preferences. Moreover, whether humans or AI, the theory of mind is supposed to emerge naturally from one’s own learning process. Building prior knowledge into AI makes it reliant on our imperfect understanding of theory of mind. In addition, AI may be capable of developing approaches we could never imagine. There can be many forms of theory of mind that we don’t know about simply because we live in a human body that has certain types of senses and a certain ability to think. Yet we might still want AI to have a more human-like form of theory of mind. Humans can clearly explain their goals and desires to each other using common language and ideas. While letting AI form the theory of mind in their learning process is likely to lead to developing more powerful AI, plainly building in shared ways to represent knowledge may be crucial for humans to trust and communicate with AI. It is important to remember, though, that the pursuit of machines with theory of mind is about more than just building more useful robots. It is also a stepping stone on the path towards a deeper goal for AI and robotics research: building truly self-aware machines. Whether we will ever get there remains to be seen. But along the way thinking about other people and other agents, we are on the path to learning to think about ourselves. 12. According to the passage, which of the following contexts can AI understand well? A. When you are asked to eat spicy food for dinner and you reply “a sore throat”. B. When a teacher asks for a boy’s homework and he answers “my dog ate it”. C. When a mom tells her kid some food is good for health and the kid eats it. D. When kids see their mom after hurting themselves and they cry louder. 13. The author believes that . A. humans’ theory of mind is far from perfect B. humans limit AI’s theory of mind to an extent C. we should reject human-like forms of abilities for AI D. shared forms of theory of mind result in more powerful AI 14. As for AIs, what does the author value most? A. Reliability. B. Practicability. C. Reasoning capability. D. Communication ability. 15. Which would be the best title for the passage? A. AI with Its Own Theory of Mind Is Expected B. AI with Theory of Mind Will Reshape Our Future C. AI’s Theory of Mind Is a Blessing or Suffering to Humans D. Theory of Mind Bridges the Gap Between Humans and AI 【答案】12. C 13. B 14. C 15. 根据第一段“But we have one superpower they aren’t close to mastering: mind reading. (但我们有一个他们还没有掌握的超能力:读心术)”和第二段“Humans have a mysterious ability to reason the goals, desires and beliefs of others, a crucial skill that means we can anticipate other people’s actions and the consequences of our own. (人类有一种神秘的能力来推理他人的目标、欲望和信仰,这是一项至关重要的技能,意味着我们可以预测他人的行为和自己的后果) ”和第三段的“For instance, if someone asks whether you are going for a run and you reply “it’s raining”, they can quickly conclude that the answer is no.(例如,如果有人问你是否要跑步,而你回答“正在下雨”,他们很快就会得出结论,答案是否定的)”可知,读心需要经过一定的推理,而计算机不具备人类所拥有的读心的能力。A项“When you are asked to eat spicy food for dinner and you reply “a sore throat”. (你被要求晚餐吃辣的食物时,你回答说“喉咙痛”)”、B项“When a teacher asks for a boy’s homework and he answers “my dog ate it”. (当老师问一个男孩的家庭作业时,他回答说“我的狗吃了”)”和D项“When kids see their mom after hurting themselves and they cry louder. (当孩子们在伤害自己后看到他们的妈妈时,他们哭得更大声)”都需要运用到思维理论去解释人们的目标和欲望。C项“When a mom tells her kid some food is good for health and the kid eats it. (当妈妈告诉她的孩子一些食物对健康有益时,孩子就会吃)”是直接的陈述,不需要运用思维理论。故选C。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“In humans, this capacity starts to develop at a very young age. (心理学家将推断他人精神状态的能力称为心理理论。在人类中,这种能力在很小的时候就开始发展。然而,如何在机器中复制这种能力还远不清楚。主要挑战之一是语境问题。例如,如果有人问你是否要跑步,而你回答“正在下雨”,他们很快就会得出结论,答案是否定的。但这需要大量关于跑步、天气和人类偏好的背景知识)”可知,人类在一定程度上限制了人工智能的思维理论。故选B。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Yet we might still want AI to have a more human-like form of theory of mind. Humans can clearly explain their goals and desires to each other using common language and ideas. While letting AI form the theory of mind in their learning process is likely to lead to developing more powerful AI, plainly building in shared ways to represent knowledge may be crucial for humans to trust and communicate with AI. (然而,我们可能仍然希望人工智能拥有一种更像人类的思维理论。人类可以用共同的语言和想法向彼此清楚地解释他们的目标和欲望。虽然让人工智能在学习过程中形成思维理论可能会导致开发出更强大的人工智能,但以共享的方式表达知识可能对人类信任人工智能和与人工智能交流至关重要)”可知,关于人工智能,作者最看重的是它的推理能力,这样才能实现人类人工智能的交流。故选C。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,结合最后一段的“It is important to remember, though, that the pursuit of machines with theory of mind is about more than just building more useful robots. It is also a stepping stone on the path towards a deeper goal for AI and robotics research: building truly self-aware machines. (然而,重要的是要记住,追求具有思维理论的机器不仅仅是为了制造更有用的机器人。这也是迈向人工智能和机器人研究更深层目标的垫脚石:建造真正有自我意识的机器)”可知,作者期待建造真正有自我意识的机器,即作者期待人工智能具备思维理论。故A项“AI with Its Own Theory of Mind Is Expected(期待人工智有拥有自己的心智理论)”可以作为本文的最佳标题。故选A。 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) Many a time when you are absorbed in the plots of TV series, you may wonder in your mind what if your story is put on the screen. The biggest challenge to overcome lies in how to deliver your story. ___16___ Know your audience. ___17___ Likewise (类似地), your friends might find a story about your work boring. Keep your audience in mind and tell them a story that appeals to their interest. With people you know well, some jokes might be all right. With people you don’t know well, keep your stories as least likely to embarrass someone as possible. ___18___ While you may practice delivering your story for many times, try not to deliver your story as if you were reading off the paper like a robot. Be cautious of the way you speak, make your delivery seem authentic (真实的) and add some personal touches to it. Instead of trying to be perfect, give yourself some room to improvise Make your story more engaging. When you speak as a certain character in your story, use a different voice to make it clear that the very character is speaking instead of another. As your story develops, make changes to your voice so that the audience can get engaged. ___19___ At serious points, slow your delivery to put your listeners on the edges of their seats. Make comfortable eye contact. Maintaining eye contact helps. ___20___ Look at someone for a few seconds, then make eye contact with the next person. Glancing between people or shifting your eyes too much can seem untrustworthy, while holding eye contact with one person for too long can make him or her uncomfortable. A. Be mindful of your speech. 【16题详解】 前文“Many a time when you are absorbed in the plots of TV series, you may wonder in your mind what if your story is put on the screen. The biggest challenge to overcome lies in how to deliver your story.(很多时候,当你全神贯注于电视剧的情节时,你可能会想,如果你的故事被搬上银幕会怎么样? 根据空后的“Likewise, your friends might find a story about your work boring. (同样的,你的朋友可能会觉得关于你工作的故事很无聊。)”中的Likewise可知,空处与下文之间是顺承关系,都是在举例说明如何选择让听众感兴趣的故事。分析选项可知,G项“Amusing incidents of your friends deserve no spot at job interviews. (你朋友的趣事不应该出现在工作面试中。)”符合语境,且其中的your friends与下文中的your friends相呼应。故选G。 【18题详解】 空处应填入本段的小标题。本段“While you may practice delivering your story for many times, try not to deliver your story as if you were reading off the paper like a robot. Be cautious of the way you speak, make your delivery seem authentic (真实的) and add some personal touches to it. Instead of trying to be perfect, give yourself some room to improvise (即兴创作).(虽然你可能会多次练习讲述你的故事,但尽量不要像机器人一样读报纸一样讲述你的故事。注意你说话的方式,让你的表达看起来真实,并加入一些个人风格。不要试图做到完美,给自己一些即兴发挥的空间。)”说你在讲述故事时不要像机器人一样照着纸念,而是要注意自己的说话方式,使自己的表达更加真实。分析选项可知,A项“Be mindful of your speech.(注意你的讲话。)” 故选A。 【19题详解】 根据上文中的“As your story develops, make changes to your voice so that the audience can get engaged. (随着故事的发展,改变你的声音,这样观众就能投入其中。)”可知,本段建议随着故事的发展来改变你的声音,这样听众就能沉浸其中。分析选项可知,D项“Quicken your pace to describe action scenes.(描述动作场面时要加快语速。)” 下文中的“Glancing between people or shifting your eyes too much can seem untrustworthy, while holding eye contact with one person for too long can make him or her uncomfortable. (在两个人之间扫一眼或频繁地转移眼睛会让人觉得不值得信任,而与一个人保持眼神接触的时间过长会让对方感到不舒服。)”提到,要避免过于频繁地转移视线或者过度注视某个人。分析选项可知,E项“However, you should find the delicate balance. (然而,你应该找到微妙的平衡。)”强调需要找到恰当的平衡点,以保持良好的眼神接触,符合语境。故选E。 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每小题所给的 A 、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Ezra suffered liver (肝脏) damage at birth. C “Is the glass half empty or half full?” This old English saying has long been used to tell a pessimist from an optimist. 8 Why does the writer mention the glass at the beginning of the text? A. The cause of overly positivity. D Superhuman artificial intelligence is already among us.
