Marc Blackett’s childhood was a constant battle against himself. Struggling with bulimia (贪食症), his body moved between being very thin and overweight, showing the emotional pain he was going through. At school, he was often hurt physically by his peers, and his loneliness grew with each passing day. Anger, fear, and embarrassment were always with him, yet no one ever asked about his emotions. His parents, though loving, had no idea how to address the emotional storm brewing (酝酿) inside him. His emotional struggles made concentrating on his schoolwork impossible, and his grades suffered.
The turning point came unexpectedly. One summer, Marc visited his uncle Marvin, a teacher with a unique attitude towards life. “Marc,” he said, “how are you feeling?” Marc had never been asked that simple question before. It wasn’t just the question itself—it was the way his uncle asked it, with genuine concern and no judgment. For the first time in his life, someone truly cared about what was going on inside him, and it gave him the courage to speak. The floodgates of emotion opened, and he poured out his years of pain, anger, and frustration. Uncle Marvin didn’t try to fix anything—he just listened, seeing Marc’s behavior and understanding the pain he had never acknowledged. He gave Marc permission to feel, and that moment transformed (改变) everything.
That conversation sparked Marc’s journey toward self-understanding. He went on to study psychology and eventually founded the Emotional Intelligence Research Center at Yale University. Marc also became a well-known speaker and author publishing books on emotional intelligence and social-emotional learning. His work helped transform educational systems and workplaces, promoting the importance of emotional awareness, understanding, and toughness. Driven by his own experience, Marc became a passionate supporter for emotional intelligence education, determined to help others manage their emotions before they became difficult to control. As Marc Blackett himself once said, “The ability to recognize, understand, and manage your emotions is the first step to understand yourself and build stronger, healthier relationships.”
4. How did Mare’s emotional struggles in his childhood affect him?
A. He found it hard to focus on his schoolwork

C. He was fearful of making his parents worried.
D. He blamed himself for his academic performance.

B. Marc started to express his emotions openly.
C. Marc understood the pain he had never acknowledged.
D. Marc’s emotional problems were immediately solved.
6. What is the main purpose of Marc’s work mentioned in Paragraph 3?

B. To help people focus on their work and success.
C. To help people understand and manage their emotions.

7. What does Marc Blackett’s quote (引言) imply about emotions?
A. Emotions can be controlled once they are understood.

Chinese films and TV series have increasingly embraced family narratives (叙事), presenting audiences with a variety of “family culture” stories that resonate with viewers. Understood and felt by people around the world, those stories related to family help reach international audiences. From high-grossing blockbusters like the Ne Zha series and Hi, Mom to heartfelt dramas such as Romance in the Alley and Six Sisters, the rise of family-focused stories reflects a tendency to reconnect traditional values with addressing universal questions like love, responsibility and identity.
Family values hold significant importance in Chinese culture across all ages. The importance of family civility (礼仪) and virtues and efforts to make Chinese families an important foundation for the country’s development, national progress and social harmony are often stressed.
In brilliant film and TV works with a good reputation, content creators also see family narratives as a way to explore human relationships while reflecting on social changes and offer audiences a wide range of angles on what it means to belong to a family. Take the Ne Zha series for instance. It has achieved unprecedented box-office success. While much of its attraction lies in its impressive visuals, one of the emotional cores of the films focuses on family. Be it Ne Zha or Ao Bing, their opposition against social prejudice and unreasonable authoritarian (专制的) rule is rooted in the unconditional love and support of their parents. The stories touch all age groups by offering the image of an ideal family: one where love, trust and support empower individuals to overcome difficulties. This ability to combine amazing entertainment with meaningful family narratives has made the Ne Zha series a model for successful family storytelling in cinemas.
Eventually, the rise of family narratives in Chinese film and television represents a powerful cultural and artistic movement. These stories celebrate the ever-lasting importance of family while addressing the challenges and complexities of modern life. By balancing tradition with innovation, Chinese creators are breathing new life into “family culture”, offering audiences stories that are both deeply personal and universally meaningful.

Countless types of plastics litter the world’s beaches. It is estimated (估计) that volunteers from 97 countries and regions identified and removed (移除) around 4,000 tons of plastic trash from beaches worldwide in 2023. For the most part, spotting the trash still depends on the naked eye and a great deal of walking.
Satellite imagery has, for years, been used to help scientists identify plastics floating in the ocean, but it's far less effective at spotting plastics on beaches. Coastal plastics often blend in with or are partially buried by sand and have serious negative effects on local wildlife. Those harmful effects aren't limited to life on beaches. If plastics aren't removed, they can often end up going into the ocean where they will slowly break down into smaller pieces, which are then eaten by sea life and work their way up the food chain. Some researchers believe this cycle may even lead to increased cases of microplastics found in humans, whose effects aren't fully known.
Therefore, a research team in RMIT University in Australia developed a new tool that highlights spectral (光谱的) features in plastics. Plastics have unique shortwaves and they can't be shown in images of beaches captured by a satellite in a normal way. However, the new tool, which works like a filter (滤镜) that can be applied to the images, recognizes the reflected shortwaves from plastics and enables researchers to exactly identify plastic items on beaches and tell them from sand, water, and plants.
To test their new tool, the researchers went to a recycling facility and collected various types of plastic trash that would likely be found on a beach. Once the plastics were in place, the satellite flew far overhead and shot a series of photos. Researchers applied their tool to the images and the plastics were identified clearly.
“This is incredibly exciting. We’re trying to team up with organizations on the next step of this research,” said study co-author Mariel Soto-Berelov. “This is a chance to help us protect delicate beaches from plastic waste.”
12. How is the most part of the volunteering work?
A. Flexible. B. Aimless.
C. Technical. D. Demanding.
13. What is the purpose of Paragraph 2?
A. To stress the danger of coastal plastics.
B. To explain the breakdown of plastic trash.
C. To show the cutting edge of satellite imagery.
D. To summarize the research by RMIT University.
14. What’s the advantage of the filter-like tool?
A. Cleaner energy. B. Computerized data.
C. Sharper recognition. D. Real-time monitoring.
15. What’s the best title for the article?
A. Coastal Wildlife Lives in Plastics
B. A New Tool Locates Plastics on Beaches
C. Researchers Re-emphasize Ocean Cleanup
D. Volunteering Work Helps Coastal Conservation
D 13. A 14. C 15. B
根据第一段的句子“For the most part, spotting the trash still depends on the naked eye and a great deal of walking. (在大多数情况下,发现垃圾仍然依赖于肉眼和大量的步行。)”可知,志愿者工作主要依赖于肉眼观察和大量的步行,说明这项工作是非常费力的。故选D项。
【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段的句子“Coastal plastics often blend in with or are partially buried by sand and have serious negative effects on local wildlife. 故选A项。
根据第三段的句子“However, the new tool, which works like a filter (滤镜) that can be applied to the images, recognizes the reflected shortwaves from plastics and enables researchers to exactly identify plastic items on beaches and tell them from sand, water, and plants. (然而,新工具的工作原理就像一个过滤器,可以应用于图像,识别塑料反射的短波,使研究人员能够准确地识别海滩上的塑料物品,并将它们与沙子、水和植物区分开来。)”可知,这种类似滤镜的工具能够更精确地识别海滩上的塑料物品。故选C项。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。根据全文内容,特别是第三段“Therefore, a research team in RMIT University in Australia developed a new tool that highlights spectral (光谱的) features in plastics. 因此,最能概括文章内容的标题是B项“A New Tool Locates Plastics on Beaches (一种新工具定位海滩上的塑料)”。
People are more willing than ever to embrace a cleaner lifestyle, but some aren’t sure where to begin. ____16____. Here are some of the simple things that can be done by almost anyone.
____17____
Do you know that clothes can take over 200 years to decompose (分解)? If your T-shirt gets coffee stains, instead of throwing it away, give it a second life as a useful kitchen rag. Besides, empty containers can become flower pots, and broken flower pots can be used as creative decorations in your garden. The list just goes on depending on your creativity.
Go dark
There are a number of small steps that you can take to use less electricity in your everyday life. Turn off the lights when you leave a room. Unplug electronic items when they aren't in use. Remember that electricity is a luxury (奢侈). ____18____
Stop using single-use plastics
Plastic waste is in almost all natural environments, especially in oceans. The biggest problem is single-use plastics like shopping bags, straws (吸管) and packaging. ____19____. Therefore, you must stop using single-use plastics. They not only affect wildlife but can take hundreds to thousands of years to break down.
Save water
____20____. Water needs to be transported, filtered, and purified (净化) before it reaches your tap. The energy people use to process it often comes from fossil fuels. Reducing the use of water by switching off the tap while brushing your teeth and collecting the rainwater for the garden means that companies use fewer harmful fuels, which helps clean up the environment.
A. Make repairs and create new things
B. We should save tap water from being polluted
C. Replace old things with new ones based on imagination
D. These actions will lower the energy use and save money
E. Animals often mistake them for food, which causes death
F. In fact, there are plenty of things you can do to live a greener life
G. Every drop of tap water you use consumes energy and is actually a polluter
F 17. A 18. D 19. E 20. G
根据空前“People are more willing than ever to embrace a cleaner lifestyle, but some aren’t sure where to begin.(人们比以往任何时候都更愿意接受更清洁的生活方式,但有些人不确定从哪里开始)”及下一句“Here are some of the simple things that can be done by almost anyone.(这里有一些简单的事情,几乎任何人都可以做)”可知,上文表示很多人不知道怎样开始绿色节能的的生活方式,下面要介绍具体的建议,由此可知,F. In fact, there are plenty of things you can do to live a greener life(事实上,你可以做很多事情来过更环保的生活)符合语境,表示有很多事情可以做。
根据下文“If your T-shirt gets coffee stains, instead of throwing it away, give it a second life as a useful kitchen rag. Besides, empty containers can become flower pots, and broken flower pots can be used as creative decorations in your garden.(如果你的T恤沾上了咖啡渍,与其把它扔掉,不如把它当做厨房抹布再用一次。此外,空的容器可以变成花盆,破碎的花盆可以用作花园的创意装饰。这个清单还在继续,取决于你的创造力)”可知,本段主要介绍把家里不想要的东西开发出别的作用,二次使用。由此可知,A. Make repairs and create new things(修复和创造新的东西)符合语境。故选A项。
根据本段小标题“Go dark”及上文“There are a number of small steps that you can take to use less electricity in your everyday life. Turn off the lights when you leave a room. Unplug electronic items when they aren’t in use.(在日常生活中,你可以采取一些小步骤来减少用电。离开房间时要关灯。不使用电子产品时拔掉插头)”可知,本段主要介绍节约用电的一些做法来节能省钱。由此可知,D. These actions will lower the energy use and save money(这些措施将降低能源的使用并节省资金)契合上文语境。
根据上文“Plastic waste is in almost all natural environments, especially in oceans. The biggest problem is single-use plastics like shopping bags, straws (吸管)and packaging.(塑料垃圾几乎存在于所有的自然环境中,尤其是在海洋中。最大的问题是一次性塑料,如购物袋、吸管和包装)”及下文中“Therefore, you must stop using single-use plastics. They not only affect wildlife…(因此,你必须停止使用一次性塑料。它们不仅影响野生动物…)”可知,此处应该表示海洋中的塑料垃圾对动物的危害,由此可知,E. Animals often mistake them for food, which causes death(动物经常把它们误认为食物,从而导致死亡)符合语境。
根据下文“Water needs to be transported, filtered, and purified (净化) before it reaches your tap. The energy people use to process it often comes from fossil fuels. Reducing the use of water by switching off the tap while brushing your teeth and collecting the rainwater for the garden means that companies use fewer harmful fuels, which helps clean up the environment.(水在到达水龙头之前需要经过运输、过滤和净化。人们用来加工它的能源通常来自化石燃料。刷牙时关掉水龙头,为花园收集雨水,这样可以减少水的使用,这意味着公司使用更少的有害燃料,这有助于清洁环境)”可知,自来水加工处理需要消耗能源,而所用的能源来自于化石燃料,从而推出自来水消耗能源,同时也是污染物,由此推测,G. Every drop of tap water you use consumes energy and is actually a polluter(你使用的每一滴自来水都在消耗能源,实际上是一种污染)符合语境。

set out to do sth.
根据下文“the Great Wall having various kinds of beauty at different times of the day(长城在一天的不同时间有各种各样的美)”以及“its appearance in the wilderness is the most breathtaking(它在荒野中的样子是最令人惊叹的)”可知,上下文之间为转折关系,故填Despite。

When I was in middle school my family moved to Seattle, where my parents started their new business — a small grocery store downstairs my house. As a girl of shy and reserved nature, I had to take a fresh start to fit into the sophisticated city life.
One sunny day, my school announced an exciting event, a talent show for the local food bank. Students were encouraged to showcase their unique talents in front of the public in the city hall on National Day. A buzz of excitement fed the school as everyone began preparing for the big day. Deep down, I felt a spark of curiosity and a desire to participate. However, my self-doubt held me back, “I don’t have any special skills to share.”
Days turned into weeks, and the talent show drew closer. I couldn’t shake the upsetting feeling until one day, Emma, one of the most popular girls in my class, came to me while I was helping in the grocery store after class. “How about singing together in the talent show?” She grinned, “I heard you singing a tune, along the way back home. I can’t help following you here.” Gosh, I couldn’t believe my ears. Emma, with personality and popularity, acknowledged my little talent. Since Emma had the world’s prettiest voice, I felt like being favoured by fortune.
“You two? The talent show for the food bank?” My mum bent towards us and her face lit up. “A big occasion.” Then a light bulb seemed to go in her head. “Why not practise right now upstairs? I bet you’ll be a perfect match.” Winking at us, she seemed to know we were thinking alike.
Emma and I embarked on rehearsing almost every single day after school. We brainstormed, exchanged ideas and rehearsed the scene. As the days rolled by, I was feeling pretty good about our act. But the day before the performance, Emma called that she had an acute stomachache and was not in any shape to perform.
注意:
1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1:
I was completely knocked out by the news.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
Finally came the big moment.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I was completely knocked out by the news. What should I do? Having prepared for such a long time, I didn’t think of that coming up. Feeling at a loss, I was brainstorming as hard as I could to think of a solution, when a gentle touch on my back brought me back to reality. It was my mum, who looked at me with care and concern. “You have prepared for it enough. You can do it by yourself.” She said after my stumbled explanation. I looked back at her eyes, and a sense of confidence and warmness swelled up in my heart. Yes, I could do it myself.
Finally came the big moment. Looking around the audience, I stepped onto the stage, with butterflies in my stomach. My voice trembled at first, but with the melodies flew around, the nervousness was gone with the wind. Emotions filled in my song, I performed as naturally as I spoke every day. I saw my mum, who was looking at me with reassurance and care. It turned out to be a good performance, which helped me conquer my fears and turned me into a new person.

When I was in middle school, my family moved to Seattle, where my parents started their new business — a small grocery store downstairs my house.
I bet you’ll be a perfect match.” Winking at us she seemed to know we were thinking alike.
