二、动词或动词短语不能用于被动语态的几种常见情况
1.所有的不及物动词或不及物动词短语;
2.表示状态的动词,如last,hold,contain,fit,cost等;
3.表示归属的动词(短语),如have,own,belong to等。
A big fire broke out yesterday evening in that factory.昨天傍晚那家工厂突然发生了火灾。
It’s said that the meeting will last a whole day.
据说会议会持续一整天。
That big house belongs to Mr Smith,who is a famous detective.
那所大房子属于史密斯先生,他是一位著名的侦探。
The medical team,consisting of five doctors and ten nurses,has set off for the earthquake-hit area.
一支由五名医生和十名护士组成的医疗小组已经出发,奔赴地震灾区。
三、主动形式表被动意义
1.当feel,look,smell,taste,sound等后面接形容词时;当cut,read,sell,wear,write,wash等作为不及物动词表示主语内在“品质”或“性能”时;当动词表示“开始、结束、关、停、转、启动”等意义时。
2.当happen,occur,break out,take place,shut off,turn off,work out等动词(短语)表示“发生、关闭、制定”等意义时。
3.want,require,need,deserve后面的动名词用主动形式表示被动含义或者用“to be done”。
4.be worth doing用主动形式表示被动含义。
5.在“be+形容词+to do”中,不定式的逻辑宾语是句子的主语,用主动表被动。
The new book sells well.新书卖得很好。
The window won’t shut.Would you please lend me a hand?
窗户关不上。你能帮我一把吗?
My bike needs repairing/to be repaired.
我的自行车需要修理。
He is a great hero,and deserves learning from/to be learned from.
他是一位伟大的英雄,值得学习。
No problem here is difficult to work out,if you think carefully enough.
如果你仔细思考,这里没有什么问题难以解决。
四、主动语态变被动语态的注意事项
1.带有介词或副词的动词短语变为被动语态时,介词或副词不能省略。
He looks after his mother well.
→His mother is well looked after by him.
2.含有双宾语的主动结构变为被动语态时,有两种方法,一是把间接宾语变为主语,直接宾语保持不变;二是把直接宾语变为主语,间接宾语前加介词to或for。
The company offered him a job.
→He was offered a job by the company.
→A job was offered to him by the company.
3.含有复合结构(即主语+动词+宾语+宾语补足语)的主动语态变为被动语态时,只把主动句的宾语变为被动句的主语,宾语补足语保持不变。
I find the book interesting.
→The book is found interesting.
4.在主动语态中,感官动词和使役动词后跟不带to的不定式作宾语补足语,但变为被动语态时,to要还原。
They heard her sing an English song.
→She was heard to sing an English song.
5.主动语态中的宾语如果是从句,变为被动语态时,有两种情况:用it作形式主语或变为“sb+be +done+to do”形式。如:
People recognize that he is one of the most influential writers in the 20th century.
→He is recognized (by people) to be one of the most influential writers in the 20th century.
→It is recognized that he is one of the most influential writers in the 20th century.
人们公认他是20世纪最具影响力的作家之一。

Fairy tales perform many functions.They entertain,encourage imagination,and teach problem-solving skills.They can also provide moral lessons,highlighting the dangers of failing to follow the social rules that let human beings coexist in harmony.Such moral lessons may not mean much to a robot,but a team of researchers at Georgia Institute of Technology(GIT) believes it has found a way to turn the instructive fable(寓言) into a moral lesson that artificial intelligence(AI) can take to its cold,mechanical heart.
This,the researchers hope,will help prevent the intelligent robots from harming or even killing humanity,which is predicted and feared by some of the biggest names in technology,including Stephen Hawking,Elon Musk and Bill Gates.
Mark Riedl,an associate professor of interactive computing at Georgia Tech,believes that the collected stories of different cultures not only teach children how to behave well but also teach robots how to get rid of violent or dangerous behavior and help them make choices that won’t harm humans and still achieve the intended purpose.
The system is called “Quixote”.The experiment involves going to a chemist to buy some medicine for a human who needs it as soon as possible.The robot has three choices.It can wait in line; it can communicate with the chemist politely and buy the medicine; it can steal the medicine.Without any further instructions,the robot will come to the conclusion that the most efficient means of getting the medicine is to steal it.Quixote offers a reward signal for waiting in line and politely buying the medicine and a punishment signal for taking it without permission.In this way,it learns the “moral” way to behave in that situation.
Quixote would work best on a robot that has a very limited function.It’s a baby step in the direction of teaching more moral lessons into robots.We believe that AI has to be trained to adopt the values of a particular society,and in doing so,it will strive to avoid unacceptable behavior.Giving robots the ability to read and understand our stories may be the most efficient means.
