B We put limitations on ourselves when the fear of failure grows stronger than our will to succeed. That’s why we all need a push to help us reach further than we ever thought possible. That is the purpose of NubAbility Athletics Foundation, a nonprofit organization aimed to get “limb (肢体) different” youth — kids who are amputees (被截肢者) — “out of the stands, off the bench, and into mainstream sports.” The organization holds camps around the country, pairing kids and coaches with similar limb differences to help them reach their full physical potential. Tim, who was born without arms, certainly didn’t believe he could pull off a 20-inch box jump before he joined. This month, the 14-year-old participated in the weight-lifting and training program at a camp and achieved something amazing. In a video on the Internet, we see Tim’s coach teaching him to jump onto a box. With no arm strength, it seems like a tough task. While Tim pushes through his self-doubt and jumps, he still holds back on his first two tries and doesn’t stick the landing. Then, the coach pats her hands onto the box, yelling, “All the people who told you you can’t — right here, jump on them. Now!” This time, Tim puts all his energy into the jump. Still, it isn’t enough to make it all the way onto the box. Understandably, Tim grows frustrated and turns away as if to give up. But he’s not done yet. Tim turns back to the box with a look of pure determination, bends his knees… and launches himself onto the box! As his coaches cheer him on, the victorious teen jumps down and straights into his motivator’s arms, overwhelmed with emotion at what he just achieved. That day, Tim learned he is capable of so much more than he knew. Tim is living proof that we can all achieve greatness, no matter our limitations. All we have to do is keep trying. Never give up, and never let the word “can’t” hold you back! 4. What is the mission of NubAbility Athletics Foundation? A. To pick out excellent young sportsmen. B. To develop the full potential of the disabled. C. To hold camps for the amputees in the world. D. To encourage teenage amputees to get involved in sports. 5. What might Tim initially look like in the video? A. He lacked confidence. B. He was full of energy. C. He was very excited. D. He was shy and ashamed. 6. Which word can best describe the coach’s words? A. Scary. B. Funny. C. Encouraging. D. Threatening. 7. What message can we get from Tim’s success? A. Life has no limitations. B. It is never too late to learn. C. A good beginning is half done. D. It is no use crying over spilled milk. C Polar bears are icons of the Arctic. Detailed monitoring of their populations is crucial for their conservation—but because polar bears are so difficult to find, we are missing critical data about population size. Scientists have now developed a new tool to help: DNA analysis using skin cells left in the bears’ footprints in the snow. The scientists were inspired by the techniques that can be applied to tiny, degraded DNA samples. With these techniques, it isn’t necessary to physically capture bears, which can be stressful and dangerous for both bears and humans. Instead, the researchers can turn to the snow tracks of polar bears and look at sources of DNA left in passing—environmental DNA. "The tracks usually contain fresh cells, and the DNA is intact because of the cold’ storage’ temperature, "said Dr. Melanie Lancaster of the World Wide Fund, lead author. The scientists collected snow from individual tracks made by Alaskan polar bears in the wild. Additional materials like hair and saliva(唾液)were sampled, confirming that the tracks provided accurate genotype(基因型) 24 wild polar bear tracks were sampled. The researchers melted and filtered the snow to collect environmental DNA, then carried out micro-satellite analysis. Although the concentrations (浓度)of DNA taken from trucks sampled in the wild were very low, 13 of the wild polar bear samples could be genotype, identifying 12 different individuals. This technique has huge potential to inform conservation of these animals, to better understand their populations and behavior. Although the sampling has a lower success rate, ease of collection means that it can significantly expand sample sizes. "We hope this method will be taken up by the polar bear research community with the involvement of hunters, volunteers, and local communities, as a new way to collect information on polar bears, "said Lancaster. "We also hope the method will be expanded to other animals living in snowy environments. " 8. Why do scientists develop the new method? A. To improve the environment in the Arctic. B. To protect humans from the polar bears attack. C. To find solutions to global climate change. D. To gather essential data for monitoring polar bears. 9. What does the underlined word “intact” mean in paragraph 2? A. Unknown. B. Undamaged. C. Unusual. D. Unstable. 10. What did the scientists do in the study? A. They tracked and caught polar bears in the wild. B. They recorded the bears’ behaviors with cameras. C They analyzed DNA from polar bears’ snowy footprints. D. They compared the polar bears’ genotype with other animals? 11. What is Lancaster’s attitude toward the method? A. Disapproving. B. Favorable. C. Uncertain. D. Suspicious. D A physical checkup often begins with a series of questions: What foods do you eat? Do you smoke? Getting any exercise? A new research suggests another telling indicator could be added to that list: What was your college major? The study finds one’s chosen field of college study is a statistically significant predictor of health in midlife. The researchers find four majors associated with the best midlife health are architecture/engineering, biology/life sciences, business, and — here’s a surprise — communications/journalism. Perhaps chasing after big stories keeps us journalists in shape. It has long been established that people with more education tend to be healthier. But does one’s major matter? To find out, the researchers analyzed data from the nationally representative American Community Survey. Their sample consisted of 3.7 million United States-born adults between the ages of 45 and 64—the time of life when physical functioning problems start to appear. Participants noted whether they had difficulty walking or climbing stairs, dressing or bathing. A “yes” answer in any of those categories resulted in a grade of relatively poor health. The researchers focused on the 667,362 participants who earned a bachelor’s degree, but went no further in their education. They noted each person’s college major, which they placed into one of 15 categories. They found substantial differences in health across majors. Two majors are particularly disadvantaged in midlife. The chances of poor health are 1.9 times greater among psychology/social work and law/public policy majors compared to business majors. The researchers argue this is likely due to several factors. Psychology majors tend to suffer from high unemployment and low earnings. Law/public policy majors often enter the field of law enforcement (执行). The researchers say that they have discovered associations, not proof of causality But they make a convincing case that some majors lead people to live healthier lifestyle s than others. Their findings might even inspire a warning country song: Mammas, don’t let your babies grow up to be psychology majors. 12. What can be learned from the first paragraph? A. Smoking can lead to poor health. B. Diet is more important than exercise. C. Physical checkups keep you healthy. D. College major could be added to a checkup list. 13. How do researchers draw their conclusion? A. By doing face-to-face interviews. B. By following participants’ daily routines. C. By doing medical examinations. D. By analyzing the representative data. 14. Which major is most likely bad for midlife health according to the researchers? A. Engineering. B. Business. C. Psychology. D. Journalism. 15. What is the best title of the passage? A. Your college major predicts midlife health. B. Your major can influence your career interests. C. The annual physical checkup is necessary to life. D. People with more education tend to be healthier. How to Find the Right Hobby A hobby is an activity that you do for pleasure. Little did they know, their trip was going to have some surprises. Upon reaching the mountain’s foot, they came across a house where Jack and his dad were securing a boat onto their truck. Lucy, curious about the best picnic spot, approached them for advice. Jack, familiar with the mountain, recommended a spot about a two-hour hike away.“ It’s truly a sight to pay attention to,” he promised. They parked next to Jack’s truck, gathered their picnic supplies, and set foot on the scenic path. Thick trees lined one side of the road, while a gentle stream flowed on the other, guiding them to an impressive grassland adorned (装饰) with bright wildflowers. There, they enjoyed their tasty sandwiches, fresh fruits, and treats, all the while sharing delightful conversation. As they were wrapping up their meal and looking forward to a leisurely rest, dark clouds gathered overhead, signaling the approach of rain. In a hurry, they pitched the tent they had fortunately brought along. No sooner had they taken shelter than the heavens opened, and a downpour began, turning the world outside into a blurry, water y canvas (油画布). With no other option, they waited out the storm. The rain finally stopped, and it felt as if they had been waiting for a century. Lucy and her parents quickly packed up, eager to head back. Their relief didn’t last; the stream had grown into a huge, rushing flood, blocking their way. With no cell phone signal, they were cut off from the outside world. Adding to their dilemma, night was fast approaching, casting a shadow over their situation. Despite the challenges, they gathered close together, using the tent as a temporary shelter against the approaching darkness. As they sat there, they realized that this unexpected event had brought them even closer as a family, turning a simple picnic into a memorable adventure they would never forget. Suddenly, they heard a truck noise coming from the other side of the river. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Lucy and her parents got on Jack’s boat and crossed the river safely. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2024—2025学年高二3月联考 英语试题 考生注意: 1. 1. 5 What might Tim initially look like in the video? D 5. A 6. C 7. 根据第二段首句“That is the purpose of NubAbility Athletics Foundation, a nonprofit organization aimed to get ‘limb (肢体) different’ youth — kids who are amputees(被截肢者) —‘out of the stands, off the bench, and into mainstream sports.’ (这就是NubAbility体育基金会的目的,这是一个非营利性组织,旨在让“肢体不同”的青少年——截肢的孩子——“走出看台,离开板凳,进入主流体育”。)”可知,这个组织的宗旨是让肢体有缺陷的年轻人参与运动。故选D。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“In a video on the Internet, we see Tim’s coach teaching him to jump onto a box. With no arm strength, it seems like a tough task. While Tim pushes through his self-doubt and jumps, he still holds back on his first two tries and doesn’t stick the landing. (在网上的一段视频中,我们看到Tim的教练教他跳上一个盒子。由于没有手臂力量,这似乎是一项艰巨的任务。虽然Tim克服了自我怀疑,开始跳跃,但他在前两次尝试中仍然退缩,没有成功着陆。)”可知,最初Tim是有过自我怀疑的,只尝试了两次,也就是没有信心做到教练要求去做的事情。故选A。 根据第五段中的“Then, the coach pats her hands onto the box, yelling, “All the people who told you you can’t —right here, jump on them. Now!” (然后,教练把手拍在箱子上,大喊:“所有告诉你不行的人——就在这里,跳上去。现在!”)”可知, 教练让Tim把箱子看作是那些认为他跳不上去的人们,鼓励他向上跳,由此推断,教练的话是很激励人的。故选C。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。通读全文,尤其最后一段“Tim is living proof that we can all achieve greatness, no matter our limitations. All we have to do is keep trying. Never give up, and never let the word “can’t” hold you back! (Tim是一个活生生的例子,证明我们都可以成就伟大,不管我们有什么局限性。我们要做的就是继续努力。永远不要放弃,永远不要让“不能”这个词阻碍你!)”可知文章讲述了残疾少年Tim在教练的鼓励下战胜恐惧,战胜自我的故事,由此推断,通过这次经历他会认识到人生无设限,没有什么是不可能的。故选A。 C Polar bears are icons of the Arctic. "We hope this method will be taken up by the polar bear research community, with the involvement of hunters, volunteers, and local communities, as a new way to collect information on polar bears, "said Lancaster. C. They analyzed DNA from polar bears’ snowy footprints. D. They compared the polar bears’ genotype with other animals? 11. What is Lancaster’s attitude toward the method? A. Disapproving. B. Favorable. C. Uncertain. D. Suspicious. 8. D 9. B 10. C 11. 12. D 13. D 14. C 15. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 Suddenly, they heard a truck noise coming from the other side of the river. It was Jack’s truck they saw as it turned the corner, and this made them feel less worried. Jack had noticed the darkness settling and Lucy’s car still parked near his house. Remembering the heavy rain, he worried and set out with his father in the truck to find them. As they neared the picnic area, Jack heard cries for help and spotted Lucy and her parents signaling for help. Quickly, Jack and his father launched their boat into the water to reach out to them. Lucy and her parents got on Jack’s boat and crossed the river safely. They then rode back to the mountain’s start in his truck. They were thankful to Jack and his dad for helping them in time and being kind. They said“thank you” with tears in their eyes. This special day taught them that being kind is powerful and they should keep helping others. They also learned always to be ready when going out into nature. This mountain picnic was a day they will remember forever. 词汇激活 行为类 ①看见:see/catch sight of ②注意到:notice/take notice of ③想起:remember/recall 情绪类 ①担心:worry/concern ②感谢:thankful/grateful 【点睛】[高分句型1] Remembering the heavy rain, he worried and set out with his father in the truck to find them.
