My Healing Moment
Last week, I felt very stressed out because of exams and homework. I was mentally drained and couldn’t focus. One afternoon, I decided to take a break and went for a walk in the park. The fresh air and green trees made me feel peaceful. I sat on a bench and listened to the birds singing. Suddenly, a small dog ran up to me, wagging its tail happily. It jumped up and down, and I couldn’t help but smile. The dog’s owner came over, and we started talking. She told me funny stories about her pet, and we laughed together. That moment made me forget all my worries. I felt hopeful and energetic again. It was truly a healing moment for me.

Advertisements for junk food like hamburgers are common on TV. But in the UK, this will 16 change. The UK bans (禁止) unhealthy food ads before 9 p. m. on TV to deal with the obesity (肥胖) problem.
In September, the UK government decided to ban 17 ads for unhealthy food and drinks on TV. No such ads can appear before 9 p. m. each day, reported the BBC.
The ban will take effect (生效) in October 2025. Its goal is to 18 childhood obesity. In the 2023-2024 school year, over 20 percent of 4 to 5-year-olds in England were overweight. 19 children who just started middle school, more than 36 percent had the same health problem.
The government believes it’s the right move to take the ban. Seeing fewer junk food ads can help children eat 20 , Usman Ahmad Mushtaq, UK health officer, told the BBC.
Many experts 21 this view. According to Sabina Crowe at the Northeastern University London, recently, a lot of studies have shown that the more ads people see, the more junk food 22 will buy.
But some disagree. They argue that banning ads does not get to the real 23 of the problem. “Do kids really want junk food because they just see it on TV, 24 is it because they’ve tried it once and want it again?” questioned professor Dina Rabie. In her opinion, the government should pay more attention to 25 children to eat well.

①Zhen Xin, from Beijing, just finished the “Five Great Mountains Challenge” in August, 2023— in only five days. She is only 16 years old, so she became the youngest person to do that.
②The “Five Great Mountains Challenge” is about climbing China’s five greatest mountains—Mount Taishan in Shandong, Mount Huashan in Shaanxi, Mount Songshan in Henan, Mount Hengshan in Shanxi, and Mount Hengshan in Hunan—in 100 days.
③Because of the hot weather, Zhen did most of her hiking at night. “When you can’t see what’s coming next, many of your fears and worries go away. You’re less likely to give up,” Zhen explained. Zhen said the key to hiking is one’s mentality (心态). Whenever she came across a vendor booth (货摊) along the hiking road, she would remind herself to carry on until the next one. And whenever she felt she was about to give up, she would treat herself to a drink or some snacks.
④Of all the mountains she climbed, Mount Huashan stood out as her favourites because of its steeper trails (更陡峭的小径). “They’re more dangerous than those of the other four mountains,” she said. But instead of making her afraid, the challenge improved her concentration (专注力). However, Zhen said the most daunting hike was climbing Mount Taishan. It was caused by the largest tourist rush she had ever seen. “We could only move up one step every five minutes or so,” she said.
⑤Zhen gained lots of special experiences. In the future, she will experience more and we are looking forward to seeing her growth and progress.
33.What did Zhen Xin want to do when she saw the vendor booth?
A.She decided to buy something to eat and drink.
B.She wanted to keep on walking until the next one.
C.She wanted to stop to have a rest for a long time.
D.She decided to finish walking before it was too far.
34.How did Zhen Xin overcome the fears and worries?
A.She didn’t pay attention to what was coming next.
B.She didn’t give up unless it was too difficult.
C.She kept walking day and night without stopping.
D.She treated herself a lot of snacks to overcome them.
35.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Zhen likes the challenge because she can improve her concentration.
B.It was too difficult for Zhen to climb Mount Taishan.
C.Mount Taishan has the largest tourist rush among the five mountains.
D.Zhen wanted to finish the challenge to build a strong body.
36.How is the text organised?
A. B. C. D.
Unless we spend money to spot (认出,发现) and prevent asteroids (小行星) now, one might crash into Earth and destroy life as we know it, say some scientists.
Asteroids are bigger versions of the meteoroids (流星体) that race across the night sky. Most orbit the sun far from Earth and don’t threaten us. But there are also thousands of asteroids whose orbits put them on a collision course with Earth.
But $500 million worth of new telescopes right now, then spend $10 million a year for the next 25 years to locate most of the space rocks. By the time we spot a fatal one, the scientists say, we’ll have a way to change its course.
Is it worth it? Two things experts consider when judging any risk are: (1) How likely the event is; (2) How bad the consequences if the event occurs. Experts think an asteroid big enough to destroy lots of life might strike Earth once every 500,000 years. Sounds pretty rare but if one did fall. It would be the end of the world. “If we don’t take care of these big asteroids, they’ll take care of us,” says one scientist. “It’s that simple.”
The cure, though, might be worse than the disease. Do we really want fleets (舰队,车队) of nuclear weapons sitting around on Earth? “The world has less fear from doomsday (毁灭性) rocks than from a great nuclear fleet set against them.” said a New York Times article.
37.What does the passage say about asteroids and meteoroids?
A.They are heavenly bodies different in composition.
B.They are heavenly bodies similar in nature.
C.They are more asteroids than meteoroids.
D.Asteroids are more mysterious than meteoroids.
38.What do scientists say about the collision of an asteroid with Earth?
A.It is very unlikely but the danger exists.
B.Such a collision might occur once every 25 years.
C.Collisions of smaller asteroids with Earth occur more often than expected.
D.It’s still too early to say whether such a collision might occur.
39.We can conclude from the passage that _________.
A.while pushing asteroids off course nuclear weapons would destroy the world
B.asteroids racing across the night sky are likely to hit Earth in the near future
C.the worry about asteroids can be left to future generations since it is unlikely to happen in our lifetime
D.workable solutions still have to be found to prevent a collision of asteroids with Earth
40.Which of the following best describes the author’s tone in this passage?

John’s Chinese teacher often asks students to give speeches on great writers. When it comes to John’s turn, he usually searches online, picks out certain stories and makes PowerPoint presentations (演示).

A.Optimistic. B.Critical (批评的). C.Objective (客观的). D.Arbitrary (武断的).

39.推理判断题。根据第三段“By the time we spot a fatal one, the scientists say, we’ll have a way to change its course.”

Nowadays, many students do homework with the help of the Internet like Andy. They search for information online, use apps or discuss through social networks like WeChat.
“It’s convenient (方便的). You don’t have to wait or get a tutor (家庭教师) beside you,” Andy said. “You also learn by seeing how others work them out.”
“It also improves our abilities,” said John, another student. He said it especially works for new types of homework.
John’s Chinese teacher often asks students to give speeches on great writers. When it comes to John’s turn, he usually searches online, picks out certain stories and makes PowerPoint presentations (演示).
“I’ve become skilled at finding information online and using Microsoft Office,” John said.
However, many students think this trend (趋势) also brings problems. Some students just copy the answers online without thinking. They become lazy.
A head teacher in Andy and John’s school said that knowing how to use the Internet is important. The key is to have good self-control.
“No matter how difficult the problem is, think about it independently (独立地) first,” the teacher said. “Be sure to understand the reasons behind the answers, or you won’t make progress. If you don’t have confidence in your self-control, ask your parents for help.”

【答案】例文
My Healing Moment
Last week, I felt very stressed out because of exams and homework. I was mentally drained and couldn’t focus. One afternoon, I decided to take a break and went for a walk in the park. The fresh air and green trees made me feel peaceful. I sat on a bench and listened to the birds singing. Suddenly, a small dog ran up to me, wagging its tail happily. It jumped up and down, and I couldn’t help but smile. The dog’s owner came over, and we started talking. She told me funny stories about her pet, and we laughed together.
