What did Lucy do last weekend? 原文:Lucy visited the museum with her parents.
技巧:主旨句常以“The main idea/purpose is…”开头。
The room was cluttered—books, clothes, and toys covered the floor. 答案:messy(通过破折号后的描述推断)
标志词:probably/infer/suggest/learn from… Tom forgot his umbrella and got completely wet. 推理:It was raining that day.
转折词(but/however)后的内容常是考点!
✅ 积累高频词:整理阅读中反复出现的词汇(如environment/experience)。

Step 1 For a basic paper-cut, you’ll first need to start with your design. You can draw this by using a pencil, or you can use a printed template (模板).
Step 2 Place your paper on top of a craft mat (垫子). You should always cut on a craft mat to prevent injury (受伤) and to protect the surface of your table. Or you can easily cut yourself and break the tabletop if you don’t use a mat.
Step 3 Start cutting out your design. Go slowly, watch your hands and fingers and bring the knife or scissors towards you.
Step 4 When you finish, pick up your design and lay it flat on your backing paper to see if you forget to cut anything out. If you do, go back and complete your paper-cutting.

Growing up in a small town in the heart of the countryside, my hometown holds a special place in my heart.
My hometown has rich history. Dating back to the early 1800s, some people came to the countryside from the noisy city and built the town. They tilled (耕种) the land, made the roads and built buildings along them. As I walk down the wide streets, I can see the buildings still stand tall today. By looking back at the town’s history, I always feel so proud.
My hometown is also a lively community, where neighbors greet each other with a smile and lend a helping hand in times of need. From festivals that bring the town together to volunteer chances that make the town better, there is a strong sense of family. Along the streets, there are many local businesses run by hard-working people. They offer places for people to catch up over a cup of coffee or share a meal with friends.
My hometown is rich in natural beauty. The rolling hills surround (包围) the town. In the spring, flowers are everywhere in the town, while in the fall, the leaves turn red and gold. The local park offers a peaceful place where I often rest and connect with nature.

What will the home of the future look like? A team of architects (建筑师) in Hong Kong say that houses will be small, as the space is becoming more and more expensive.
They have designed “spaceflats” that are just 30 square metres in size. These flats only have three small rooms: a living room, a bathroom and a bedroom, as well as a balcony, but everything is carefully planned to make good use of the limited space.
The living room is the main room of the flat. It can be used as an office, a kitchen, even a second bedroom. There is a sofa that can be changed into a bed. The dining table can be changed into a computer desk. And, if not needed, both the sofa-bed and the table can be folded away (折叠) and put into a small space in the wall. There is a flat-screen TV, which can also work as a computer monitor. In one of the rooms, a small cooker, a microwave oven and a mini fridge are out of sight.
The other rooms are small but practical. The bathroom has a toilet and a shower. The double bed in the bedroom can also be a sofa. The balcony has enough room for two people to sit and enjoy the view from the block of flats. All the rooms have high ceilings to give as much storage space as possible, while the flat has large windows to let in enough sunlight.
“Spaceflats” are now being tested in a building in Hong Kong. “It’s wonderful,” says one resident (居民). “The flat is so well designed that you feel that there is a lot of space. ”

In the mountains and forests of southern China, there stand many stilt houses (吊脚楼). They are built on hillsides and supported by wooden pillars (木柱). They are homes to the Tujia people.
Stilt houses stand high above the ground. The tallest Tujia stilt house is in Zhangjiajie of Hunan. It is as tall as 109.9 meters. Taking a closer look at stilt houses, you will find their beautiful windows, eaves (屋檐) and roofs (屋顶). The windows are decorated (装饰) with patterns of animals and plants. The eaves look like the wings of swallows (燕). On some roofs, you can see wooden dragons and phoenixes (凤凰).
Why do the Tujia people build houses in the air? Well, it has something to do with the places where they live. Most Tujia people live in southern China’s Hunan and Hubei. The weather there is humid (潮湿的) and often hot in summer. People can feel cooler and more comfortable living in taller houses. Also, taller houses can protect people from floods (洪水) and dangerous animals.

The Best birthday
Amy has lived in her house in Hudson for 35 years. But now she had money problems. So Amy had to leave the house. Her neighbour Danielle couldn’t bear (忍受) to see Amy and her two dogs living in the street. So she bought the house back. On Amy’s 89th birthday, she moved back in and now she lives in her “home” again.
_______________
John always helped his old neighbour, Nancy. He cleaned snow and ice for her, and brought her newspapers closer to her door, so she didn’t have to walk far. He didn’t know he would save (救) her life one day. One winter, he found she still didn’t take her newspapers after a long time. He knocked on her door, but she didn’t answer. John called the police. They found out she fell and couldn’t get up. She stayed there alone for about three days. Luckily, she got better in the hospital.
Exercise friends
Mary was old and lived in New York. She wanted to be strong. Her neighbour, Andy, helped her learn how to exercise in the right way. Andy showed Mary some moves (动作) and watched her, so she would not hurt herself. They even made videos of their exercise and asked other neighbours to help each other. Andy said, “My mother is also old and can’t move. Helping old neighbours is like helping my mom.”

Types of Dwellings Around the World
Dwellings around the world come in various forms, each adapted to its local environment and cultural context.
In some mountainous regions, you can find log cabins. These are made of logs, which are readily available from the surrounding forests. Log cabins are well-insulated, keeping the interior warm in cold winters. They often have a simple, rustic design with a pitched roof to prevent snow from piling up.
In cities, high-rise apartments are common. With limited land space, these buildings can accommodate a large number of people. They usually have shared facilities like gyms, swimming pools, and rooftop gardens. The advantage of living in an apartment is that it provides easy access to urban amenities such as shopping malls, restaurants, and public transportation.
In hot and arid areas, adobe houses are popular. Adobe is a building material made from clay and straw. These houses are thick-walled, which helps to keep the interior cool during the day and warm at night. Their flat roofs can also be used for various purposes, such as drying clothes or storing things.

What did Lucy do last weekend? 原文:Lucy visited the museum with her parents.
技巧:主旨句常以“The main idea/purpose is…”开头。
The room was cluttered—books, clothes, and toys covered the floor. 答案:messy(通过破折号后的描述推断)
标志词:probably/infer/suggest/learn from… Tom forgot his umbrella and got completely wet. 推理:It was raining that day.
转折词(but/however)后的内容常是考点!
✅ 积累高频词:整理阅读中反复出现的词汇(如environment/experience)。

Growing up in a small town in the heart of the countryside, my hometown holds a special place in my heart.
My hometown has rich history. Dating back to the early 1800s, some people came to the countryside from the noisy city and built the town. Along the streets, there are many local businesses run by hard-working people. They offer places for people to catch up over a cup of coffee or share a meal with friends.

I have a neighbour and we call her “Happy”. She never seems angry at anything and we never hear her say a bad word about anyone.
Happy and her husband Ben,70, have a big garden. They spend many happy hours together working on it.
Today, Happy and Ben invite most of the neighbourhood over for an “all-day food festival”. They told us to bring gloves and arrive early in the morning. We didn’t know what would happen (发生).
At 9:00 a.m., there are nine of us in the garden picking tomatoes, potatoes and carrots. At 10:00 a.m., we share a lot of stories with each other and laugh happily. By five o’clock, we sit together and enjoy the fresh and tasty food. After dinner, we play games. As we are leaving, Happy and Ben hand each of us a shopping bag of fresh vegetables growing in their garden. What a great gift!
Well, it is not so much about the food. The true gift is a day of friends enjoying one another’s company (陪伴).
