Last week, I went to a restaurant for dinner. I recognized the face of the boy sitting at the table next to me. I was sure I had seen him before, but couldn’t remember his name. Have you ever had an experience like that?
Humans have a great ability to recognize faces. From movie stars to our relatives, friends and classmates, we can actually remember the faces of a large number of people. The question is: How many faces a person can remember at most?
Humans are much better at recognizing faces than at remembering names. Early humans didn’t have spoken language. They largely depended on their visual (视觉的) abilities to tell their family members from strangers. As a result, our vision has developed to be one of our strongest senses. When we talk to others, we often keep eye contact with them and look at their faces from time to time. Our brain takes in and stores their looks, such as the color of their eyes and the shape of their mouth.
In a study, a group of people were tested on their facial memory abilities. They were asked to recall (回想) the faces of all the people they knew about. Then, they were asked to identify their pictures. It turned out that normal people were able to remember between 1,000 and 10,000 faces. The average was about 5,000.
Meanwhile, some people have much stronger facial memories than others. They are called super recognizers. Remembering about 10,000 faces is the upper limit for a normal person, but these people may be able to recall many thousands more different faces. Most people can only recognize about twenty percent of the faces they have seen. Super recognizers, however, can remember up to 80 percent of them!

I used to lose my temper at my wife when I got blues, she just suffered silently.
When our daughter was born into the world, I was not at her side. It was not because of my job that I was not there. 63 I enjoyed myself with some friends. Never did I change a wet diaper. How selfish I was! 5 years later, she gave birth to our son. And I moved to another place; seldom did I stay with her. She lived in her unit, looking after our daughter with no one around to help her. What’s 64 , there was no one living in the unit during the night. I could never 65 how she managed to be so courageous. “A woman is like a teabag, you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water”.

Over time, Wang became a key member of her team.
Wang never thought about flying into space u 73 May 2018. That was when China began selecting its third generation of astronauts. She felt it was a precious chance and signed up. After three rounds of tests, Wang, along with 17 men, stood out from 2,500 applicants. At the Astronaut Center, Wang set out on another journey into the unknown. She faced countless challenges but never once considered giving up.

Dear Mr. Wang,
The wonderful junior high school life is coming to an end. I hope our graduation ceremony is colorful and interesting. This is my activity plan.
I think making short videos and giving gifts are good activities. We can make short videos of the three years’ experiences to show our study, life and love. It can be a good memory for us in the future. Besides, we can give gifts to each other in order to express the friendship between students and teachers. This is a symbol of our friendship.
I hope my advice is helpful to you. I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours,
Li Hua

55.What did the writer do last week?
A.He went to the cinema. B.He visited a museum.
C.He had dinner in a restaurant. D.He cooked dinner in a restaurant.

A.you failed to recognize an old friend
B.you were unable to call someone
C.you recognized someone’s face but forgot his name
D.couldn’t remember where you had met someone before
57.Early humans heavily depend on their visual abilities because they ________.
A.only believed their eyes B.didn’t know how to speak
C.their other senses were not good D.were very clever
58.According to the study mentioned, how many faces can a normal person remember at most?
A.500. B.1,000. C.5,000. D.10,000.
59.How are super recognizers different from normal people?
A.They have excellent eyesight.
B.They pay very close attention to people’s looks.
C.They can recognize faces they’ve seen a lot faster.
D.They can recall many thousands more different faces.
60.Where can you most probably read this article?
A.In a diary. B.In a novel. C.In a travel guide. D.In a newspaper.
B. Choose the words or expressions to complete the passage(选择最恰当的单词或短语,完成短文)(12分)
“I, take you, to be my wife to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part.” The words moved me to 61 whenever I saw western wedding ceremony, most probably they mean it when saying so, but many couples 62 to be strangers or enemies, both hurt seriously.
I am 66 successful, but it is my responsibility to make sure my wife and children live a happy life. It is her dream to buy a decent car so that we can improve our life quality, but the flats cost us a huge amount of money, and we are still in debt. I made a promise that one day a nice car will be bought for her, I need to keep my promise, I need to earn a little bit more money to make it a reality.
