B As a new school year starts at Ohio University and first-year students arrive at the Scripps College of Communication, they will get to know Scott Titsworth, dean of the the Scripps College of Communication. His job includes ensuring high academic standards and overseeing (监督) student admissions and academic success. However, his favorite and important part is staying with students and assisting them in reaching their goals. “I enjoy interacting with students the most,” said Titsworth. “Seeing people grow and learn is rewarding, and I feel honored to be part of their journey.” Titsworth’s path began in Parsons, Kansas, a small town with more than 10,000 residents. It was known as a railroad town, and many of his family members worked for the railroad. But Titsworth chose a different route — going to college to pursue his favorite career in media and communication. Before starting to work in academia, Titsworth worked at a radio station. Eventually, Titsworth realized that he wanted to use his talents and skills to help others learn about and pursue their dreams in the field of communication. Titsworth is a leading scholar in the area of classroom communication effectiveness. With more than 50 books, chapters, and articles published on the topic, his most recent research has explored ways in which students’ emotional experiences are related to their learning activities, including both note-taking and cognitive performance. Over his 20 years in the Scripps College of Communication, he has held roles such as director of graduate studies and recognized the growing importance of preparing the next generation in media. He emphasizes that today, anyone can create content and share it, so training in effective communication is essential. Although he misses teaching directly, Titsworth is proud of the unique opportunities the Scripps College of Communication offers its students to prepare them for successful careers. “Get to know people” is his advice for new students. “Your relationships will greatly influence your growth while you study here,” he said. 4. C In 2015, Doc Brown, a “mad scientist”, takes teenager Marty McFly to the future in a flying car. In that future, cars fly through the sky. But now,10 years after the future shown in the movie, flying cars are still not real. However, flying cars, a popular idea in sci-fi since the early 1900s, might soon become real. According to Xiaosong Du, an assistant professor at Missouri University of Science and Technology, the technology to make flying cars already exists. In fact, some companies have even tested prototypes (样机). A flying car would probably look like a mix of an airplane and a helicopter. Since airplanes need runways, a flying car would take off like a helicopter using rotating blades (叶片). After take-off, wings would extend from the car’s body, allowing it to fly like an airplane with less air resistance. Another design option is to add propellers (螺旋桨) to the wings. At first, the wings would face upwards to help the propellers lift the vehicle. Once in the air, the wings would tilt to lie flat, making the car fly like an airplane. These designs don’t look like the flying cars from sci-fi. Instead, they look like military helicopters, like those in some movies. One big challenge for people traveling in flying cars is expense. A US company plans to sell flying cars that can also drive on roads, but they will cost about $300,000 each. Most flying cars will be electric due to sustainability concerns, but batteries are heavy and have limited range. Flying cars require a lot of power, especially during take-off. Current batteries can only power a flying car for 20 to 30 minutes. Unlike a regular car, a flying car cannot just pull over when out of power — it would fall. So Du and many other researchers are trying to improve battery efficiency before flying taxis take off. 8. Why does the author mention the movie in the first paragraph? A. To praise a boy for his adventurous spirit in flying cars. B. To remember a scientist inventing flying cars. C. To show people’s longing for flying cars. D. To introduce the topic about flying cars. 9. Which of the following is a big barrier to people using flying cars? A. The high cost. B. The road safety. C. The flight rules. D. The runways. 10. What can we infer about flying cars? A. They have been in service in big cities. B. They can operate like a regular vehicle. C. They consume less fuel during take-off. D. They require light but powerful batteries. 11. What’s the main idea of the text? A. Sci-fi films inspire real-life inventions. B. The challenges of flying cars are endless. C. Flying cars could soon become a reality. D. Customers are concerned about flying cars. D Engineers usually build devices using solids like metal or plastic. However, a team in China has created a new type of device using drops of water. These devices help study and management of tiny amounts of liquid, and the best part is that they are easy to build, adjust, and refashion. The idea for this project came from blocks. Xin Du, a researcher at Southeast University in Nanjing, China, was inspired when a student brought in a set of blocks. Du realized that just like blocks that can be amalgamated together and can be rearranged, water droplets (水滴) could do something similar. This could be a great way to build systems that control the flow of liquids in tiny tubes, a field known as microfluidics, which studies how liquids move in small spaces, such as in batteries or to model blood flow in the body. In their research, Du’s team designed a system where water droplets could stick together to form a liquid path. They created a grid with tiny plastic pillars (柱子) that held the droplets in place. When the droplets touched, they joined together but did not spill (溢出) out. This allowed the scientists to control the direction of the liquid path. If they needed to change the direction, they could easily move the droplets around, much like changing the setup of blocks. The system was reconfigurable, meaning it could be quickly adjusted without starting over. This flexibility is important in microfluidics, where experiments often need to be changed as new discoveries are made. Du’s team is also working to improve the system by making even smaller channels. Their final goal is to use this technology to improve organoid research, where artificial organs made from living cells are studied. This new system could provide better ways to supply nutrients or blood to these growing cells, making the study of living tissues more accurate and efficient. 12. How does the device created by the team in China differ from others? A. It is made from plastic. B. It employs water drops. C. It is designed by a student. D. It features metal structures. 13. What does the underlined word “amalgamated” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Enlarged. B. Combined. C. Distinguished. D. Shown. 14. What does Du’s team expect of the system? A. It will have wide application in medical treatment. B. It will bring a heavy profit to the team. C. It will enable students to be fond of blocks. D. It will decrease the cost of artificial organs. 15. Which is the most suitable title for the text? A. Exposure to Various Blocks Sharpens the Brain B. There Is a Growing Trend Toward Playing Blocks C. Blocks Inspired a New Way to Study Liquids D. I was the most popular girl in my school. I had a lot of friends, and I had a best friend, Isabella. You might think she was the second most popular girl in school, but apparently she was not. I had a lot of admirers, which made some people very eager for my popularity, like Jess. But she tried everything to embarrass me. Once, I saw her crying in the classroom, and I was surprised by her difficulty, so I tried to talk to her, but she was still crying, somehow louder. Soon, people entered the classroom for the class, and Jess quickly started saying things loudly like “Please forgive me, Amy! I will definitely make your homework better next time!” I was so shocked! The laughter that once occurred in the school corridors had turned into a low whisper. People I once called friends began to drift away. Every interaction felt like navigating a minefield (雷区) except Isabella, who didn’t leave me. My messages in group chats went unanswered. During class, the seat next to me sat empty. A heavy feeling came over me, like something pressing on my chest. I tried to ignore the words, but they seemed like an invisible shadow, following me wherever I went. Actually, people just didn’t know me — they only saw the surface and thought I was just a girl having double faces. What they didn’t know was that I had been studying good manners at a young age, day after day, year after year. My loneliness was getting deeper and deeper, but no one seemed to understand. One particularly painful afternoon, I locked myself in my room as soon as I got home. I lay in bed, on my stomach, tears streaming silently down my cheeks. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Just as darkness threatened to envelop me, the phone on the bedside table rang. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Isabella listened intently, never interrupting. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 重庆市高二英语考试 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? 【答案】8 D 9. A 10. D 11. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 Just as darkness threatened to envelop me, the phone on the bedside table rang. It was Isabella. “Amy, I know you’re hurting,” she said softly. “But hiding won’t help. Jess is spreading lies, but we can fix this. Meet me at the old oak tree tomorrow before class. Trust me.” Her words, though simple, carried a warmth that melted my frozen heart. For the first time in days, I felt a flicker of hope. So I confessed my inner pain and confusion. Isabella listened intently, never interrupting. When I finished pouring out my pain, she handed me a notebook. “These are screenshots of Jess badmouthing others in our group chat,” she explained. “People need to see her true colors.” The next day, Isabella stood by me as I confronted Jess publicly. With evidence in hand, I spoke calmly, revealing Jess’s schemes. Whispers of doubt turned into murmurs of guilt. Slowly, friends began apologizing, realizing they had judged me unfairly. Isabella’s unwavering support taught me that true friendship outshines fleeting popularity. 词汇激活 行为类 ①相信:trust/believe ②面对:confront/face ③见面:meet/encounter 情绪类 ①怀疑:doubt/disbelief ②坚定的:unwavering/firm 【点睛】[高分句型1] The next day, Isabella stood by me as I confronted Jess publicly.
