You can get great calorie burning effects with the following exercises. Running Running is one of the best calorie burners out there. An average person can burn anywhere from 500 to 1,000 calories in one hour of running. Speed and pace are all factors that can affect calorie burning. But running uses every muscle group in the body, allowing you to burn more calories. High Intensity Interval (高强度间歇运动) Training (HIIT) If you want intensity, HIIT is right for you. This physical exercise involves working hard in intervals, then resting. Because your heart rate will stay at a high level, you’ll burn more calories in less time. On average, a person will burn 400 to 600 calories in 30 minutes. Jumping rope This childhood activity can actually do wonders for your health. Jumping rope is great for strengthening the lower and upper body while training your balance and coordination (协调能力), because your mind has to work while you jump. Jumping rope can burn 600 to 1,000 calories in an hour. Swimming Swimming is a low-intensity form of exercise that also uses muscle groups of your body. In just 30 minutes of swimming, an average person can burn 200 to 300 calories. Swimming also helps to shape body, control blood pressure, and increase strength—all great reasons for you to jump into the water. 1. Which kind of exercise burns the most calories in an hour? A. Running. B. Swimming. C. Jumping rope. D. High Intensity Interval Training. 2. Who may also be interested in the third exercise? A. Those who want to train their mind. B. Those who want to have good balance. C. Those who want to control blood pressure. D. Those who want to do low-intensity activities. 3. What is the purpose of the text? A. To encourage people to compete in sports. B. To teach people how to do exercise. C. To provide ways to burn calories. D. To promote a healthy lifestyle. B Born in Russia and living in an orphanage (孤儿院) for the first 13 months of her life, Jessica Long had no idea what her future would hold. The little girl born with Fibular Hemimelia would not only go on to be a 13-time gold medal-winning Paralympic champion, but she would inspire others to chase their dreams. Long was born in Russia, where she lived in an orphanage until her parents adopted her in 1993. Soon after being adopted, she had to have her legs amputated (截肢) at only a year and a half. “It gave me a lot of freedom and movement,” Long said. “But growing up was definitely really hard. From a very early age, I just decided that I was going to be unstoppable and I wasn’t going to let my legs hold me back.” From that point forward, she didn’t let anyone tell her what she was or wasn’t capable of doing. She started doing gymnastics as a kid. Then, in 2002, Long found her sport for life: swimming! “I was the only girl with no legs on the swim team, ” she said. “There were moments I struggled, but my teammates treated me like a friend. When I look back on my life and I think about anyone on that team, no one made fun of me for having no legs and they were so kind.” Long defied (顶住) all odds and surprised everyone when she qualified at age only 12 for the Paralympics in 2004 in Athens. After four Paralympics, Long has won 13 gold, six silver, and four bronze medals. She has dozens of World Championship medals and has broken numerous world records throughout her career so far. But she didn’t concentrate on winning awards or being famous. “I really just love swimming. It’s important for any athlete to remember just why you started,” she said. As one of the most decorated athletes in history, Long’s goal is to just keep competing as long as her body allows. “Dream big,” she said. “There are so many possibilities out there, so find your passion, be consistent and work hard. You define your own success.” 4. How old was Long when she found her life sport? A. 11 B. 10. C. 12. D. 13. 5. What made Jessica determine to devote herself to swimming? A. Her experience of winning 13 gold medals. B. Her parents’ support and teachers’ help. C. Her teammates’ understanding and kindness. D. Her focus on winning awards and fame. 6. What is the text mainly about? A. A poor orphanage and her close friends. B. A happy girl and her confusing childhood. C. An amazing illness and its terrible influence. D. An inspiring story about an unlucky person. 7. Which of the following may Long most agree with? A. If you can dream it, you can make it. B. If you want to succeed, learn to swim. C. A man never reaches success until disabled. D. A sportsman’s goal is winning gold medals. C In a dark room, it may seem there will be little to detect in the darkness. However, a bird in the room will be able to pick up on the magnetic field(磁场)of the earth and will know which direction to fly if it is time to migrate(迁徙). A snake will detect the presence of humans in the room by sensing their radiation. Each of these creatures could all be sharing exactly the same physical space and have a totally different experience of that space. Each animal has access to its own sensory environment — called an “umwelt”. “Umwelt” was popularized by a German biologist named Jakob von Uexküll. The word comes from the German for “environment”, but Jakob von Uexküll wasn’t using it to mean the physical environment. He meant the sensory environment, the unique set of smells, sights, sounds and textures that each animal has access to. Humans can’t sense the faint electric fields that sharks and ducks can, or the magnetic fields that robins and sea turtles detect. Our ears can’t hear the call of rodents and hummingbirds, and our eyes can’t see the light that birds and bees can sense. Our noses can’t detect various odors(气味)that dogs would be able to smell. So imagining the world as animals perceive it opens up a new appreciation for the everyday wonders of nature. If we think of nature as something remote and distant, accessible only to someone who can go to a national park, we lose the motivation to save and protect it. Instead, we can go on an adventure just by thinking about the sensory world of the bird that sits on the house opposite us. Then nature would feel like something close. In that case, people will be more motivated to try and protect it. Protecting nature isn’t just about saving whales or pandas, but about protecting things that are close to us. 8. What does the author intend to show by using the example of a dark room? A. Automatic adjustments to the darkness. B. Important functions of sense organs. C. Natural strengths of animals and humans. D. Diverse perceptions of the same environment. 9. What does the underlined word “umwelt” in paragraph 2 mean? A. The natural world. B. The biological science. C. The surroundings that animals detect. D. The environment that animals live in. 10. What is paragraph 3 mainly about? A. Limitations of human senses. B. Wonders of living creatures. C. The lack of animal knowledge. D. The comparison of organs. 11. What does the author suggest doing? A. Presenting the national parks. B. Caring about the creatures around us. C. Rescuing endangered species. D. Appreciating what we possess. D Obese people experience discrimination (歧视) in many parts of their lives, and the workplace is no exception. Studies have long shown that obese workers, defined as those with a body-mass index (BMI) of 30 or more, earn significantly less than their slimmer co-workers. Yet the costs of weight discrimination may be even greater than previously thought. “The overwhelming evidence,” wrote the Institute for employment Studies, “is that it is only women living with obesity who experience the obesity wage penalty (薪资损失).” They were expressing a view that is widely aired in academic papers. To test it, The Economist has analyzed data concerning 23,000 workers from the American Time Use Survey, conducted by the Bureau of Labour Statistics. Our number-processing suggests that, in fact, being obese hurts the earnings of both women and men. The data we analyzed cover men and women aged between 25 and 54 and in full-time employment. At a general level it is true that men’s BMIs are unrelated to their wages. But that changes for men with university degrees. For them, obesity is associated with a wage penalty of nearly 8%, even after accounting for the separate effects of age, race, graduate education and marital status. The conclusion — that well-educated workers in particular are penalized for their weight — holds for both sexes. Moreover, the higher your level of education, the greater the penalty. We found that obese men with a Bachelor’s degree (学士学位) earn 5% less than their thinner colleagues, while those with a Master’s degree earn 14% less. Obese women, it is true, still have it worse: for them, the equivalent figures are 12% and 19%, respectively (分别地). Your line of work makes a difference, too. When we dealt with the numbers for individual occupations and industries, we found the greatest differences in high-skilled jobs. Obese workers in health care, for example, make 11% less than their slimmer colleagues; those in management roles make roughly 9% less, on average. In sectors such as construction and agriculture, meanwhile, obesity is actually associated with higher wages. These results suggest that the total costs of wage discrimination borne by overweight workers in America are greater than expected. Now, it’s time for our governments to take it seriously. 12. What does the underlined word “it” refer to in paragraph 2? A. Obese men earn less salary. B. Only obese women earn less salary. C. Both obese men and women earn less salary. D. Weight discrimination may be greater than previously thought. 13. Who may experience more discrimination compared to their colleagues according to the data? A. A fat woman office director. B. An obese construction worker. C. An obese man with a bachelor’s degree. D. A heavier female doctor with a Doctor’s degree. 14. What is the writer’s attitude of overweight discrimination? A. Supportive B. Objective C. Subjective D. indifferent 15. What might the author continue talking about? A. Overweight discrimination in other countries. B. The reason of discriminating obese people in their lives. C. American people’s attitude towards overweight discrimination. D. Actions taken against overweight discrimination in workplaces. 第二节(共5小题,每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。 Nearsightedness is a common vision condition in which close objects look clear but far objects look blurry (模糊的).____16____ Myopia happens when the shape of the eye — or the shape of certain parts of the eye — causes light rays to bend or refract. Roughly 42% of Americans are nearsighted today, compared to 25% in 1971. The World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that about half of the world’s population will have myopia, or nearsightedness, by 2050. It’s clear that our vision is becoming increasingly blurry, but researchers are only now beginning to understand why. While our first response is to blame the increased use of screens, experts believe the real reason is not that, exactly, but it’s related: namely less time spent outdoors. ____17____. A 2017 study published in JAMA Ophthalmology found a link between increased UVB (中波紫外线) exposure and a decrease in myopia, particularly in children and young adults. ____18____. Most screens are high contrast-like black text on a white page, or light text on a dark background. It’s still a theory, but some scientists think that the contrast of reading a book or looking at a bright screen in a dark room might be overstimulating our retinas (视网膜), causing more eye growth in children. Most people’s vision will stabilize in their teens, but some people develop myopia later in life, typically between ages 20 and 40. ____19____. People with myopia are at a higher risk of developing eye issues as they age, such as glaucoma, early cataracts and macular degeneration. That’s why regular eye examinations are important. ____20____, such as ensuring that you are reading or working in good light, choosing nonglare screens for your computer or TV and taking frequent breaks. A. Blurry vision isn’t the only problem. B. There is a sharp increase in nearsightedness. C. The medical term for nearsightedness is myopia. D. Natural light is essential for healthy eye development. E. That said, our increased use of screens is still a problem. F. Researchers are working on ways to slow down rising myopia·rates. G. You can also prevent eye issues by making a few simple lifestyle changes. When I was ten years old, I learned that trusting can be risky, especially with water and my father. However, I was growing increasingly concerned about a new problem: plastic waste. I often noticed my students casually throwing away plastic bottles and wrapper around the school grounds. It pained me to see the beautiful campus littered, and I knew that lecturing them about environmental responsibility wasn’t enough. They needed to see and feel the impact firsthand. One Friday afternoon, after witnessing another pile of plastic waste near the playground, I decided to take action. I called a meeting with my class and shared my concerns. “This Saturday,” I announced, “we’re going on a field trip, but it won’t be to the usual places. We’re going to spend a day collecting rubbish in the city. " The students’ reactions were mixed. Complaints erupted immediately. “Why do we have to pick up rubbish? Isn’t this someone else’s job?” Sofia shouted. Emily added, “It’s going to be so hot this weekend! Do we really have to?” I took a deep breath and tried to inspire them. “Think about it,” I said, “each bottle or wrapper you pick up can be recycled into something useful. Moreover, we’re helping to keep our city clean. It’s a good way to show respect for our community and our planet, isn’t it?” I saw a few doubtful faces, but also some nods. Sofia hesitated before saying, “Well, I guess it does sound important.” On Saturday morning, the students gathered at the school, equipped with gloves and rubbish bags. There were still some complaints about the heat and the task ahead as we boarded the bus. The city center, usually active, awaited us with its unfortunate blanket of litter. Upon arrival, I split them into small groups and assigned each a section of the streets to clean. The students looked around, their faces tightening into frowns as they saw rubbish scattered in every direction. “This is a lot more than I thought,” Emily sighed, looking at the piles of rubbish. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 I called on my students to start working. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ By the end of the day, the students were tired but proud of their efforts. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 江西省南昌市第十九中学2024-2025高二上学期 期末考试英语试卷 考试时间:120分钟 总分值:150分 第I卷 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。 1. Recently, some of my classmates heavily rely on smart pens to complete their English homework. It has a bad effect on their language learning journey. In my opinion, while smart pens can be useful for language learners, over-dependence on them can hinder the development of essential language skills. Firstly, constant reliance on smart pens can limit one’s ability to think critically. Besides, relying too much on them discourages the formation of long-term memory. Lastly, losing the chance to overcome challenges may potentially lead to a decrease in motivation in learning English. To conclude, smart pens should serve as supplementary aids rather than crutches in language learning. 第二节(满分25分) 【47题答案】 【答案】参考范文: I called on my students to start working. “Come on, everybody! We can do this. Let’s show others what we are capable of. Imagine the difference we can make together!” I encouraged them. Reluctantly, they began to move, picking up cans, bottles, and wrappers. But gradually, they started working together, sharing stories, and even laughing at the occasional odd items they found. Despite the hard work and the hot sun, the students found joy in seeing the streets transform in front of their eyes. “Hey, we’re actually making a difference,” Emily remarked, her bag now half-full. “This place looks better already.” By the end of the day, the students were tired but proud of their efforts. They had collected a significant amount of rubbish, and the streets looked noticeably cleaner. On the bus ride back, the students discussed ways to keep the school grounds clean and even proposed setting up recycling bins around the campus. Clearly this experience had a great impact on them. The once-reluctant students were now advocates for environmental responsibility, demonstrating their newfound respect for the community and the planet. This day of hard work had turned into a meaningful lesson they would carry with them for years to come. 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
