Outside, the piles of dead leaves began to be blown about by the wind. These leaves hit the windows with strange noises.

There had not been such a winter for years. The cold went right through us, like a knife to the bone.

1.鸟类
Shes beautiful. Shes pale grey. Shes got shiny green and blue feathers on her neck that sparkle like sequins.
她很漂亮。她是淡灰色的。她脖子上有闪亮的绿色和蓝色的羽毛,像亮片一样闪闪发光。
Its parents arent here to protect it.Its pink and helpless, flopping about in the nest.
它的父母不在身边保护它。它粉嫩嫩的,很无助,在巢里蹦蹦跳跳。
They just fluff out their feathers and go, “Coo!”
它们只是抖了抖羽毛,然后发出“咕咕”声。
They swoop round and round the loft. Then they settle on the roof.
它们在阁楼上飞来飞去,然后停在了屋顶上。
They (falcons) are right above me, two of them, circling high in the sky. They go gliding down to their nest to feed their chick, their wings spread out like fans.

She looks very sick. Shes a scrap of shivering feathers. And her golden eyes are dull. Theres no sparkle in them.

Whoosh, whoosh! The other pigeons whizz over our heads.

2.牛犊
Peter gasped when he stepped into the barn. Lying on the dirt floor was a new⁃born calf.
彼得喘着气走进牲口棚时,躺在泥土地板上的是一只新生的小牛犊。
The cow mooed and licked her newborn.
那头牛哞哞地叫着,舔着她的新生儿。
3.狗
He was big and as black as night. He had soft, brown eyes, like a deer.
他又大又黑。他有一双柔软的棕色眼睛,像一只鹿。
He cocked his head at the front door and listened to the unfamiliar traffic noises.
他在前门抬起头,听着陌生的交通噪音。
He was running beside the road with his tongue flapping out.
他伸着舌头在路旁跑着。
I scratched his soft ears. He tucked his tail and gave me his saddest expression.
我挠了挠他柔软的耳朵。他夹着尾巴,给了我他最悲伤的表情。
I hugged my dog round the neck.
我搂住了我的狗的脖子。
He lay down and put his head on his paws.
他躺下来,把头靠在了爪子上。
He whined and licked my hand as he followed me.

He spun around so fast that gravel flew.

The dog trembled and looked up at me with his big soft eyes.

4.虫
All nature was wide awake and stirring now; long lances of sunlight pierced down through the dense foliage far and near, and a few butterflies came fluttering upon the scene.
现在整个自然界都已经清醒并活动起来,远近各处一道道的阳光从茂密的树叶里投射下来,几只蝴蝶拍着翅膀登场了。
Blue butterflies fluttered among the solitary wood blossoms.

Butterflies were flying from one flower to another with a soft flutter of his wings.

Two white butterflies were wrestling in the low air.

Among the turf⁃shoots ants were scurrying hither and thither, and jostling one another,and parting again. From above, the scene looked like the commotion in a human market⁃place.
草丛中,蚂蚁向四面八方奔跑,相互挤撞又散开,恰似从高处眺望集市时所看见到的喧闹场景。
The ant crept forth to her daily toil.
蚂蚁悄悄地爬出来,开始了它日常的辛勤劳作。
Dragonflies flew back and forth, swooping and circling near the surface of the water.
蜻蜓在水面附近来回飞舞,俯冲、盘旋。
Many dragonflies, with great jewelled eyes, danced and darted above the water.
长着宝石般眼睛的许多蜻蜓在水面上飞舞。
Swarms of dragonflies winged to and fro over the grass⁃covered slope.
成群的蜻蜓在长满青草的山坡上来回飞舞。
5.鱼
A big carp rose to the surface of the pool,gulped air and then sank into the water again, leaving widening rings on the water.
一条大鲤鱼跃出池面,吞下一口空气又钻入水中,在水面留下扩展的波纹。
A fish glided across the pool deep under waters and then became a shadow and disappeared into the darker water on the other side.
一条鱼在水的深处游过水池,逐渐模糊不清,最后消失在水池另一头颜色更暗的水中。
It was an enormous fish. It was almost the length of my arm.
这条鱼很大,几乎有我的手臂那么长。
The fish suddenly leaped clear of the water and fell flat upon the surface again with a loud smack.

The great fish moved silently through the water, propelled by short sweeps of its crescent tail. The mouth was open just enough to permit a rush of water over the gills.

Far out in the shine of the lake a fish jumped, splashing sharply.

6.熊
A bear thrust his head and cast a crafty glance about the open.

The bear crouched motionless for some seconds, his little red eyes aglow, and his jaws beginning to slaver with eagerness.

The bear stood there with muzzle thrust forward,his nostrils dilating to savour the light airs which drifted through the forest.

The soft roar of the bear grew audible, a voice at which all the animals pricked their ears.

And the bear, having finished the sugar,sat up on his haunches to gaze intently, ears erected and jaws half open, at that far⁃off, fiery brightness in the sky of night.
而那只熊,吃完了糖后,坐起身来,竖着耳朵,半张着下巴,凝视着夜空中那遥远的、火热的光芒。
The raccoon backed up against a granite rock,and stood at bay,her long,white teeth bared, her eyes fierce, fearless, and watchful.
浣熊后退到一块花岗岩上,走投无路地站着,呲着长长的白牙,眼神凶狠、无畏、警惕。
