Lucy was rescued from a rural farm in New South Wales, Australia, two years ago. She was suffering from chlamydia (衣原体病), a disease widespread among koalas. Today, she is one of “the lucky” living creatures in tree corridors (走廊) that have been created by volunteers to protect koalas and other animals by saving their quickly shrinking habitats, or natural environment.
The corridors, planted by the local conservation group Bangalow Koalas, are made up of large systems of plants. They are intended for koalas and other animals like the glossy black cockatoos, possums, and wallabies. All of them are endangered, or at risk of becoming extinct. The corridors provide a safe path across the koala’s increasingly broken habitat. “Our corridors are actually trying to get them away from humans, from cars and from dogs,” said Linda Sparrow, president of Bangalow Koalas. “They can safely move across the landscapes and don’t have to put up with us humans.”
The koala is predicted to be extinct in the wild in New South Wales by 2050. Some of the biggest dangers include wildfires and habitat loss through land clearing for development. Koalas have already been declared endangered in several Australian states. A recent report by the Australian Koala Foundation said the animal was worth an estimated $3.2 billion per year to the tourism industry.

The group, which depends on com munity volunteers, aims to plant 500,000 trees by 2025. Volunteer Lindy Stacker, who has been planting trees for over five years, still remains devoted to the cause. She said the activity is good for mental health and has brought the community together. “I can’t imagine a world where there’s no koalas in the wild. We’re going to do everything we can possibly to. make sure that won’t happen,” Lindy said.

In a world where the sky was painted with dreams, Alice was a star that shined brightest until one day when a disastrous accident took her legs. Then Alice was suddenly thrown into the darkness.
The physical limitation changed Alice a lot. She became increasingly isolated (孤僻的). She avoided going out, preferring the quietness of her room to the sounds of the outside world. Her friends, once close, now seemed distant, as Alice pushed them away with her bitter words. She gave up on her dream of a successful career, seeing no point in searching for a job that might never come.
Days turned into months. Alice spent her time in loneliness, watching the world pass her by. But one day, a knock on the door broke the silence. It was her friend, Sarah, who had not given up on Alice despite her changes. Sarah sat beside her, listening to her sadness and fears with patience and understanding.
Sarah promised to help Alice regain her lost confidence. She began by arranging visits with other friends, encouraging Alice to reconnect with those she had pushed away. Slowly but surely, Alice’s mood improved. Sarah also researched job opportunities that would be suitable for Alice’s condition and applied for her.
After weeks of preparation with Sarah’s guidance, Alice’s first job interview finally arrived. Despite her best efforts, the interview didn’t go as smoothly as they had hoped. The interviewer seemed doubtful of Alice’s ability to perform the job duties because of her physical condition. Alice left with a broken heart.
As soon as she got home, Alice broke down in tears, feeling like all her hard work had been for nothing. Sarah immediately came to her side with a comforting hug. “Don’t give up, Alice,” Sarah said firmly, “Trust yourself and there will be a company which cares more about your ability. Besides, I can help you. Let’s start from sending out more resumes (简历).”

11.What can be the best title for the text?
A.Bangalow Koalas: A Group Intended For Koalas
B.Tree Corridors: A Lifeline For Endangered Koalas
C.Bangalow Koalas: Call On Volunteers For Koalas’ Protection
D.Tree Corridors: Responsible For The Loss Of Koalas’ Habitats
【答案】8.D 9.A 10.C 11.B
根据第一段“She was suffering from chlamydia (衣原体病), a disease widespread among koalas.(她患的是衣原体,一种在考拉中广泛传播的疾病。)”
根据第一段“Today, she is one of “the lucky” living creatures in tree corridors (走廊) that have been created by volunteers to protect koalas and other animals by saving their quickly shrinking habitats, or natural environment. 和第二段“Our corridors are actually trying to get them away from humans, from cars and from dogs (我们的走廊实际上是在努力让它们远离人类、汽车和狗)”可知,树木走廊的目的是为了保护考拉免受人类的威胁。故选A。
根据第三段“The koala is predicted to be extinct in the wild in New South Wales by 2050. Some of the biggest dangers include wildfires and habitat loss through land clearing for development. Koalas have already been declared endangered in several Australian states. A recent report by the Australian Koala Foundation said the animal was worth an estimated $3.2 billion per year to the tourism industry.
通读全文,尤其是第一段“Today, she is one of “the lucky” living creatures in tree corridors (走廊) that have been created by volunteers to protect koalas and other animals by saving their quickly shrinking habitats, or natural environment. 和第二段“The corridors, planted by the local conservation group Bangalow Koalas, are made up of large systems of plants. They are intended for koalas and other animals like the glossy black cockatoos, possums, and wallabies. All of them are endangered, or at risk of becoming extinct. The corridors provide a safe path across the koala’s increasingly broken habitat.

【答案】16.B 17.A 18.G 19.D 20.E
16.空前“Unplugging for the holidays will give your brain a break and allow yourself to enjoy more pleasures in your life.(假期不插电会让你的大脑休息一下,让你享受生活中的更多乐趣)”说明了假期不插电的好处,空后“These tips will help you have a tech-free holiday and enjoy the benefits of unplugging for the holidays.(这些建议将帮助你度过一个没有科技产品的假期,享受假期中不插电的好处)”说明接下来要讲一些假期不用科技产品的建议,空格处应该是承上启下,说打算拔掉插头,B选项“Ready to unplug but not sure how?(准备好拔掉插头,但不知道怎么做?)”
17.空格处是本段主题句,由空后的“It’s a lot easier to stay away from your smartphone if everyone else you’re with follows suit. Let family and friends know you’d like to do a digital detox (脱瘾) during your time. Have everyone turn their phones off, then collect them and keep them in a separate room.(如果和你在一起的其他人都这么做,那么远离智能手机就容易多了。 故选A。
18.空前“The day might seem boring if everyone’s phone is taken and there’s no plan for entertainment.(如果每个人的手机都被拿走,没有娱乐计划,这一天可能会显得很无聊)”说明没有娱乐活动的一天可能会让人觉得无聊,空后“From making popcorn and watching a movie to going on a hike, baking cookies or playing board games, you’ll be surprised by how much fun you can have together.(从做爆米花、看电影到徒步旅行、烤饼干或玩棋盘游戏,你会惊讶于你们在一起有多少乐趣)”介绍了一些娱乐活动,因此空格处应该说要设计娱乐活动,G选项“Expect this and design a list of activities everyone can take part in.(预料到这一点,并设计一个每个人都可以参加的活动清单)”说明了要设计每个人都可以参与进来的活动,因此承上启下,符合语境。故选G。
19.空前“Keep your phone out of the bedroom at night. Give yourself an alarm clock, and keep your phone out of the room when you’re getting ready to sleep.(晚上不要把手机放在卧室里。
