Growing up in Karnataka, she began accompanying her father into the wild at just two years old. But in her hometown, kids grew up with a negative perspective on wildlife. Elephants destroyed crops and sometimes people were badly injured or killed. Karanth discovered kids wouldn’t appreciate the fact that it’s the best place to witness extraordinary animals. In 2017, a conversation with her friend Gabby shifted her mindset towards education. Within half a year, Karanth and Gabby had the first version of “Wild Shaale” on their hands. A program designed for students who come into frequent contact with wildlife, Wild Shaale aims to develop a genuine understanding of wildlife and wild spaces and move beyond wildlife tolerance to concepts of conservation and environmental issues. The conservation education program fills a gap in environmental learning. While it is fortunate that a basic environmental education is supported by local government, Karanth believes the challenge lies in the quality of the curriculum and whether it’s delivered effectively and consistently. “You have to visualize what these schools look like. They may not have electricity — forget having computers, internet, iPads, or anything.” Encouraging the students to find commonalities between themselves and the animals is the first step to changing perceptions and hopefully, behaviors. “It comes down to the same things: we need food; we need water; we need space. Then they start to understand why situations of conflict arise,” Karanth says. “But then how do you convince them not to get angry, not to act in a way that leads to harm? That’s something we’re trying to work on. It’s not easy.” 4. What problem might Karanth’s hometown have faced? A. Human-wildlife conflict. B. Loss of wildlife habitats. C. Overpopulation of elephants. D. Disregard for wildlife balance. 5. Why did Karanth launch the program Wild Shaale? A. To help students identify animals. B. To fill a gap in local education. C. To change how students perceive wildlife. D. To publicize wildlife diversity. 6. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A. The support to the plan. B. The barrier to the program. C. The curriculum arrangement. D. The schools’conditions. 7. What is Karanth trying to achieve in the program? A. A shift in humans’ attitudes and behavior. B. A breakthrough in environmental studies. C. Appropriate ways to end local conflicts. D. Approaches to changing animals’ behavior. A 5. C 6. B 7. 根据第一段“But in her hometown, kids grew up with a negative perspective on wildlife. Elephants destroyed crops and sometimes people were badly injured or killed. Karanth discovered kids wouldn’t appreciate the fact that it’s the best place to witness extraordinary animals.(但在她的家乡,孩子们从小就对野生动物持消极态度。大象毁坏了庄稼,有时人们严重受伤或死亡。卡兰斯发现,孩子们不会欣赏这样一个事实:这里是观看非凡动物的最佳地点)”可知,卡兰斯的家乡面临问题是人类与野生动物的冲突。故选A。 根据第二段“A program designed for students who come into frequent contact with wildlife, Wild Shaale aims to develop a genuine understanding of wildlife and wild spaces and move beyond wildlife tolerance to concepts of conservation and environmental issues. The conservation education program fills a gap in environmental learning.(该项目专为经常接触野生动物的学生设计,旨在培养对野生动物和野生空间的真正理解,并超越野生动物的耐受性,了解保护和环境问题的概念。保育教育计划填补了环境学习的空白)”可知,Karanth启动Wild Shaale项目是为了改变学生对野生动物的看法。故选C。 【6题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第三段“While it is fortunate that a basic environmental education is supported by local government, Karanth believes the challenge lies in the quality of the curriculum and whether it’s delivered effectively and consistently. “You have to visualize what these schools look like. They may not have electricity — forget having computers, internet, iPads, or anything.”(虽然幸运的是,基础环境教育得到了当地政府的支持,但Karanth认为,挑战在于课程的质量,以及课程是否有效和持续。“你必须想象这些学校是什么样子。他们可能没有电——更别提有电脑、互联网、ipad或任何东西了。”)”可知,第三段主要讲了项目的障碍。故选B。 【7题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“Encouraging the students to find commonalities between themselves and the animals is the first step to changing perceptions and hopefully, behaviors.(鼓励学生发现自己和动物之间的共同点是改变观念和行为的第一步)”可知,卡兰斯想在这个项目中实现人类态度和行为的转变。故选A。 C Most people in the Netherlands are convinced that their consumption patterns affect the environment. Many of them are looking for ways to reduce their footprint. However, the reality is more complicated, according to a research by Leiden PhD candidate Levon Amatuni, who studied car sharing and the reuse of phones. He used his background in computer science and mathematics to model and measure the benefits of such practices. His research shows users of car-sharing platforms reduce their impact by only 3 to 18 percent — much less than 51 or 37 percent claimed in previous research. This is caused by so-called “rebound effects”, which are rarely accounted for by companies or even researchers. For example, shared vehicles are replaced with new models more frequently than private cars. Additionally, the introduction of sharing schemes (方案) can encourage people to drive when they would have otherwise taken public transport. These rebound effects turn out to be highly influential. Amatuni also found users of sharing platforms don’t significantly reduce their driving. “And if they do, they often take buses and trains, which aren’t emission-free,” he says. While public transport is usually a better option, its impact is not negligible. So, this data must be included to make an accurate assessment. Similarly, Amatuni discovered that a second-hand phone only offsets (抵消) about one-third of a new phone’s production. Rebound effects are the cause. If people couldn’t sell their old devices, they would use them for longer. In other words, reuse both extends the lifetime of a device — by giving it a new owner — but also shortens it, as people tend to sell their newly bought devices sooner. Amatuni doesn’t want people to conclude taking small steps towards sustainability is pointless. “Our intentions are still what’s most important,” he says, “but meanwhile, people need to realise there’re no easy fixes.” He recommends prioritising overall consumption reduction rather than continuing current habits while trying to make them more efficient. 8. What is the focus of Amatuni’s research? A. The ways of reducing people’s footprint. B. The benefits of car sharing and phone reuse. C. The damage of public transport to the environment. D. The knowledge of computer science and mathematics. 9. What does the underlined word “negligible” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Small. B. Permanent. C. Direct. D. Immediate. 10. Which of the following represents a phone rebound effect? A. Buying new phones often. B. Keeping old phones in use. C. Taking care of new phones. D. Selling used phones cheaply. 11. What is Amatuni’s suggestion on promoting sustainability? A. Stop eco-friendly habits. B. Increase production efficiency. C. Reduce total resource use. D. Seek easy solutions to eco-crisis. B 9. A 10. A 11. 根据第二段“His research shows users of car-sharing platforms reduce their impact by only 3 to 18 percent—much less than 51 or 37 percent claimed in previous research. This is caused by so-called “rebound effects”, which are rarely accounted for by companies or even researchers.(他的研究表明,汽车共享平台的用户只减少了3%到18%的影响,远低于之前研究中声称的51%或37%。这是由所谓的“反弹效应”造成的,企业甚至研究人员都很少考虑到这一点。)”可知,Amatuni的研究重点是汽车共享和手机重复使用的好处。故选B。 【9题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第三段“they often take buses and trains, which aren’t emission-free(他们经常乘坐公共汽车和火车,这些都不是零排放的)”和“this data must be included to make an accurate assessment(为了做出准确的评估,必须包括这些数据)”可知,公共交通的影响并不是微不足道的,negligible的意思是“微不足道的”,和small意思相近。故选A。 根据第四段“Similarly, Amatuni discovered that a second-hand phone only offsets (抵消) about one-third of a new phone’s production. Rebound effects are the cause. If people couldn’t sell their old devices, they would use them for longer.(同样,Amatuni发现,二手手机只抵消了新手机产量的三分之一左右。反弹效应是原因。如果人们不能卖掉他们的旧设备,他们就会使用更长时间。)”可知,经常买新手机代表了手机的反弹效应。故选A。 根据最后一段“He recommends prioritising overall consumption reduction rather than continuing current habits while trying to make them more efficient.(他建议优先考虑整体减少消费,而不是继续目前的习惯,同时试图提高效率。)” C。 D A study conducted by Cornell University examined how the use of AI in conversations impacts the way people express themselves and view each other. The researchers have found people have more efficient conversations, use more positive language and perceive each other more positively when using an AI-enabled chat tool. However, the group also found that when participants think their partner is using more AI-suggested responses, they consider that partner as less cooperative. “I was surprised to find people tend to evaluate you more negatively simply because they suspect you’re using AI to help compose text, regardless of whether you actually are,” said Jess Hohenstein, the lead researcher. “This illustrates the continuous overall doubt that people seem to have around AI.” For their first experiment, participants were asked to talk about a policy issue and assigned to one of three conditions: both participants can use smart replies; only one participant can use smart replies; or neither participant can use smart replies. Researchers found that using smart replies increased communication efficiency, positive emotional language and positive evaluations by communication partners. On average, smart replies accounted for 14.3% of sent messages. But participants whose partners suspected of responding with smart replies were evaluated more negatively than those who were thought to have typed their own responses consistent with common assumptions about the negative implications of Al. “While AI might be able to help you write,” Hohenstein said, “it’s altering your language in ways you might not expect, especially by making you sound more positive. This suggests that by using text-generating AI, you’re giving up some of your own personal voice.” Malte Jung, an associate professor, said, “What we observe in this study is the impact that AI has on social dynamics and some of the unintended consequences that could result from integrating AI in social contexts. This suggests that whoever controls the algorithm (算法) may have influence on people’s interactions, language and insights into each other.” 12. Which of the following statements does Jess Hohenstein agree with? A. AI always expresses your ideas in ways that you expect. B. Algorithm will never have an influence on people’s insights. C. You will be negatively evaluated if you’re found using AI to compose text D. People are still uncertain about the role of AI in daily interaction. 13. How do the researchers draw their conclusion? A. By analyzing figures. B. By performing a survey. C. By conducting experiments. D. By making comparisons. 14. How will a person feel about suspecting his partner’s using smart replies? A. Nervous. B. Uncomfortable. C. Excited. D. Puzzled. 15. Based on the passage, what are the unexpected consequences of using text-generating AI? A. Your language remains unchanged. B. It doesn’t alter speakers’ insights into each other. C. It makes the speaker sound more negative. D. You are losing some of your personal style. 16. What is the passage primarily about? A. Methods of using AI in conversations. B. Efficiency of using AI in conversations. C. Convenience of using AI in conversations. D. Impacts of using AI in conversations. D 13. C 14. B 15. D 16. 根据第四段中““I was surprised to find people tend to evaluate you more negatively simply because they suspect you’re using AI to help compose text, regardless of whether you actually are,” said Jess Hohenstein, the lead researcher. “This illustrates the continuous overall doubt that people seem to have around AI.”(首席研究员Jess Hohenstein说:“我很惊讶地发现,人们往往会因为怀疑你在使用人工智能来帮助撰写文本而对你的评价更负面,而不管你是否真的在使用人工智能。这说明人们似乎对人工智能存在持续的整体怀疑。”)”可知,Hohenstein发现在对话中使用人工智会带来负面评价,会影响人们之间的信任,所以Hohenstein会赞同的是D选项“People are still uncertain about the role of AI in daily interaction.(人们仍然不确定人工智能在日常互动中的作用。)” 根据第五段中“For their first experiment, participants were asked to talk about a policy issue and assigned to one of three conditions: both participants can use smart replies; only one participant can use smart replies; or neither participant can use smart replies. Researchers found that using smart replies increased communication efficiency, positive emotional language and positive evaluations by communication partners.(在他们的第一个实验中,参与者被要求谈论一个政策问题,并被分配到三个条件中的一个:两个参与者都可以使用智能回答;只有一个参与者可以使用智能回复;或者两个参与者都不能使用智能回复。研究人员发现,使用聪明的回答可以提高沟通效率、积极的情感语言和沟通伙伴的积极评价。)”可知,研究人员是通过进行实验来得出结论的。故选C。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中““I was surprised to find people tend to evaluate you more negatively simply because they suspect you’re using AI to help compose text, regardless of whether you actually are,’ said Jess Hohenstein, the lead researcher.(首席研究员Jess Hohenstein说:“我很惊讶地发现,人们往往会因为怀疑你在使用人工智能来帮助撰写文本而对你的评价更负面,而不管你是否真的在使用人工智能。”)”可知,如果一个人怀疑他的伙伴在使用智能回复,他会做出负面评价,说明他感到不舒服。故选B。 【15题详解】 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“This suggests that by using text-generating AI, you’re giving up some of your own personal voice.(这表明,通过使用生成文本的AI,你放弃了自己的一些个人声音。)”可知,使用生成文本的人工智能会让你失去一些个人风格。故选D。 【16题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,特别是根据第一段“A study conducted by Cornell University examined how the use of AI in conversations impacts the way people express themselves and view each other. (康奈尔大学进行的一项研究调查了在对话中使用人工智能如何影响人们表达自己和看待彼此的方式。)”可知,文章主要介绍的是在对话中使用人工智能的影响。故选D。 第二节 七选五(共 5 小题,每题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分) How to Motivate Yourself · Have a dream. C 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章阐述了四个激励自我的策略:树立远大的梦想、专注于自身进步、在困难中坚持前行以及释怀过去,以促进个人发展。 【17题详解】 由上文“Having a dream is important because it’s difficult to be motivated if you don’t have anything to shoot for. However, just having a dream is not enough. Your dream must be big enough to inspire you. It must be realistic but challenging. (有梦想很重要,因为如果你没有什么目标去追求,就很难有动力。然而,仅仅有梦想是不够的。你的梦想必须足够大,才能激励你。它必须是现实的,但又具有挑战性)”可知,上文强调了梦想的重要性和特性,空处应进一步阐述梦想应该具备的特点。D选项“It must stretch your ability beyond your comfort zone. (它必须把你的能力拓展到你的舒适区之外)”进一步解释了梦想的特性,即要具有挑战性,要能够激励人们超越自己的舒适区,能承接上文,符合语境。故选D。 【18题详解】 由上文“Comparing yourself with others is like comparing the performance of a swimmer with a runner using the same time standard. They are different so how can you compare one with the other? (把自己和别人比较,就像用同样的时间标准来比较游泳者和跑步者的表现。他们是不同的,所以你怎么能把他们相提并论呢?)”及下文“The only one you need to beat is you. (需要打败的唯一一个人就是你自己)”可知,上文指出比较自己与他人的不合理性,下文则强调需要打败的唯一一个人就是自己,空处承上启下,进一步说明比较自己与他人的无用性和强调与自己竞争的重要性。A选项“The only competitor you have is yourself. (你唯一的竞争对手就是你自己)”能承上启下,符合语境。故选A。 【19题详解】 由下文“You may think that it’s too difficult to move on. You may think that your dream is impossible to achieve. (你可能会觉得继续前进太难了。你可能会觉得你的梦想是不可能实现的)”可知,下文指出人们面对困难时可能会产生的想法,空处应引出下文,说明在面对困难时人们可能会产生的退缩心理。E选项“When you meet difficulties along the way, you might give up. (当你在前进的道路上遇到困难时,你可能会放弃)”与下文形成呼应,引出了下文要讨论的内容,符合语境。故选E。 【20题详解】 由上文“You may think that it’s too difficult to move on. You may think that your dream is impossible to achieve. (你可能会觉得继续前进太难了。你可能会觉得你的梦想是不可能实现的)”和下文“Though both of them face the same difficulties, there is one thing that makes the winners different: the courage to continue. (尽管他们都面临着同样的困难,但有一件事让胜利者与众不同:那就是继续下去的勇气)”可知,上文和下文强调胜利者与失败者的不同在于面对困难时继续下去的勇气,空处承上启下,进一步说明在面对困难时人们可能会产生的不同反应。G选项“But this is where you can see the difference between winners and losers. (这就是你能看到胜利者和失败者之间区别的地方)”符合语境,与上下文形成呼应,强调了胜利者与失败者的不同。故选G。 【21题详解】 由上文“You might make mistakes in the past. (你过去可能会犯错误)”及下文“But it’s over. It’s already in the past and there’s nothing you can do about it. (但已经过去了。它已经是过去式了,你对此无能为力。)”可知,上文指出人们过去可能会犯错误,下文则强调过去的已经过去,无法改变,空处承上启下,进一步说明人们过去可能会犯的错误以及这些错误对现在的影响。C选项“You might disappoint others with what you did. (你可能会用你所做的事情让别人失望)”符合语境,与上下文形成呼应,强调了人们过去可能会犯的错误以及这些错误对他人可能产生的影响。虽然这个错误已经无法改变,但重要的是要放下过去,重新开始。所以C选项正确。注意,F选项“However, forgetting the past just means that your effort means nothing. (然而,忘记过去只意味着你的努力毫无意义)”虽然也提到了忘记过去,但其含义与上下文不符,因为它强调的是忘记过去意味着努力没有意义,而上下文强调的是要放下过去的错误,重新开始。所以F选项不正确。故选C。 第三部分 语言运用(共三部分,满分为 30 分) 第一节 完形填空(共 15 小题,每题 1 分,满分 15 分) Kevin Hyde, who has been sailing his whole life, recently invited Joe DiTommasso to Florida on his sailboat. Peeking into our library, we’ll see newspapers gathering dust, like long-forgotten friends. However, print media offers a unique reading experience. It encourages a slower and more reflective reading process, allowing readers to digest information more thoroughly. Besides, it gives readers the feel of the pages, the ink smell, and the freedom to flip through pages at our own pace, which offers us an escape into another world and a deeper dive into knowledge. So, let’s bring back the joy of turning pages! Together, we can foster a culture of curiosity and lifelong learning that surpasses digital screens. 【解析】 【导语】本篇书面表达属于应用文。假定考生是校英语报主编李华,请你写一篇英语短文,呼吁大家重拾对纸质阅读的热情。 【详解】1.词汇积累 提供:offer→provide 鼓励:encourage→motivate 此外:besides→what’s more 培养:foster→cultivate 2.句式拓展 简单句变复合句 原句:However, print media offers a unique reading experience. As with most large cities, the homeless population in my city often gathered on downtown corners, asking pedestrians for their spare change. Like many busy citizens, I had learned to ignore the nameless faces begging for money each day. My limited life experience had led me to one assumption — they were on the streets because they chose to be, probably due to alcohol or other similar things. But who would have thought that the first person to change the way I viewed humanity would be a completely stranger? My overall outlook on people took a 180-degree turn in less than ten minutes I remember how particularly cold the weather had been that day. I saw one man sitting against a building, holding a white cup in front of him. His shaky voice reached out to me as I hurried past. “Spare some change?” he asked. “I would really appreciate it.” I didn’t even bother looking up at his nameless face. “Sorry, no money on me today,” I made a lie as usual quickly, my eyes fixed on the ground ahead. Just a few feet past him, I slipped on the icy pavement and fell hard. I lay there for several moments, stunned and wondering if I had broken my leg. “Are you all right?” A voice came from above me. I looked up and it was the man I had just rushed past, concern written on his face. He reached down, trying to offer help. “You should get that checked by a doctor. This bus goes past the hospital,” he said, pointing to the bus sign above me. I held his hand as I struggled to get to my feet. He held my arm as I hobbled to the nearby bus stop and quickly sat on the bench. A mix of emotions swelled within me — gratitude for his help, embarrassment for my earlier ignorance, and anxiety about getting to work on time. For a moment, I met his gaze, unsure of what to say. Then, a sudden realization crossed his face. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: “Ah, I forgot you didn’t have any money on you,” he said. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Seeing the bus approaching, I quickly took several bills out of my purse. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 “Ah, I forgot you didn’t have any money on you,” he said. Almost immediately, I watched as he fished out some coins from his white cup, his eyes brimming with care and sincerity. I was overwhelmed with guilt as I remembered the lie I had just told him only a few short minutes earlier. The coins shone like diamonds of humanity among the concrete jungle of the city and a mirror that reflected my selflessness and ignorance. “Sorry, actually,” I said, finding my voice, “I do have money.” I turned away from his offering hand, reached for my purse, and pulled it out. Seeing the bus approaching, I quickly took several bills out of my purse. I offered the bills to him with genuine respect and humility. The words tasted bitter as I admitted my dishonesty. His eyes widened slightly, but he didn’t look angry. I could feel he was hesitating, and just then, the bus approached. I pressed the money into his hands. “I appreciate your help, more than you know. Please do take this,” I said sincerely. He helped me to stand up and said “Thank you”, the simplest words that humbled me like never before. With a final nod, I limped towards the bus stop. Despite his gratitude, I didn’t feel forgiven for my actions. These bills seemed too small a gift for the man who gave a name to every nameless face. 词汇激活 行为类 ①取出一些硬币:fish out some coins/ take out some coins ②闪耀:shine/ sparkle ③反映:reflect/ mirror 情绪类 ①内疚:guilt/ compunction ②感激:gratitude/appreciation 【点睛】【高分句型1】Almost immediately, I watched as he fished out some coins from his white cup, his eyes brimming with care and sincerity. B To Karanth, everyone in every part of the world is born with a fundamental connection to nature. C Most people in the Netherlands are convinced that their consumption patterns affect the environment. A Buying new phones often. D A study conducted by Cornell University examined how the use of AI in conversations impacts the way people express themselves and view each other. The researchers have found people have more efficient conversations use more positive language and perceive each other more positively when using an AI-enabled chat tool. But participants whose partners suspected of responding with smart replies were evaluated more negatively than those who were thought to have typed their own responses, consistent with common assumptions about the negative implications of Al. 第二节 七选五(共 5 小题,每题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分) How to Motivate Yourself · Have a dream. My overall outlook on people took a 180-degree turn in less than ten minutes. I remember how particularly cold the weather had been that day. Just a few feet past him I slipped on the icy pavement and fell hard. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
