Aisha took a toy and waved it at him. When he didn't respond, Aisha waved the toy in her dad s face and brushed it across the top of his head, making it harder for him to ignore her. Finally, he gave in and watched her. Aisha’s behavior suggests that great apes (类人猿) engage in playful teasing (戏弄) just like humans and that the roots of human humor can go back 1.3 million years to the common ancestors of apes and humans. A study led by Federico Rosson of the University of California includes orangutans, chimpanzees, bonobos, and gorillas in zoos. They carried out a video-based study and identified social interactions that contain a mix of playful and annoying elements. They focused on characteristics such as one-sided provocation (挑衅), surprise, looking at the target’s face, and repetition of the behavior. Despite living in different social structures and environments, all four species of great apes tease one another in similar ways. A teaser might grab another’s hand or foot to stop their activity. Sometimes apes hid under objects when teasing, reaching out a hand suddenly to pull someone’s hair. Targets tended to ignore teasers or try to gently get them away. Sometimes they responded positively with play, or teasing of their own. Other times they just got up and left. While doing playful teasing, the teaser has to predict the target’s response and adjust their behavior based on how the target is likely to respond. Learning to predict how others will respond is a critical skill for highly social animals. The study of playful teasing may not be limited to apes. “We suspect that other highly social animals such as parrots, dolphins, elephants, whales, and dogs, may also engage in this behavior,” said co-researcher, Isabelle Laumer. To gather more data, researchers have surveyed zookeepers and are collecting stories of animal teasing from around the world. 8. Why did Aisha wave a toy at her father? A. To have fun playfully. B. To copy human behavior. C. To attract his attention to her head. D. To show annoyance for ignoring her. 9. What is paragraph 3 mainly about? A. The subjects of the study. B. The findings of the study. C. The approach of the study. D. The structure of the study. 10. What can be learned about the apes? A. The target feels angry at the teaser. B. The teaser focuses on the target’s face. C. The teaser predicts the target’s response. D. The target adapts to the build of the teaser. 11. What is a suitable title for the text? A. Humor Is Older than Humans. B. Playful Teasing Is Conducted Across Species. C. Study Discovers the Secret of Our Ancestors. D. Zoo Animals Enjoy Taking Each Other by Surprise. A 9. B 10. C 11. 根据文章第一段“Aisha took a toy and waved it at him. When he didn t respond, Aisha waved the toy in her dad s face and brushed it across the top of his head, making it harder for him to ignore her. Finally, he gave in and watched her. Aisha’s behavior suggests that great apes (类人猿) engage in playfu teasing (戏弄) just like humans (Aisha拿起一个玩具,向父亲挥舞。当父亲没有反应时,Aisha把玩具在他面前挥舞,并在他的头顶上刷过,使他更难忽视她。最终,父亲屈服并看着她。Aisha的行为表明,类人猿和人类一样会开玩笑)”可知,Aisha的行为是开玩笑,是为了有趣地玩耍。故选A。 根据文章第三段“Despite living in different social structures and environments, all four species of great apes tease one another in similar ways.(尽管生活在不同的社会结构和环境中,这四种类人猿都以相似的互相开玩笑的方式)”可知,本段主要讲述了研究的结果,即不同种类的类人猿以相似的开玩笑方式。 根据文章第四段“While doing playful teasing, the teaser has to predict the target’s response and adjust their behavior based on how the target is likely to respond.(在进行戏弄时,戏弄者必须预测目标的反应,并根据目标的可能反应调整自己的行为)”可知,开玩笑者会预测目标的反应。 通读全文,尤其是第一段“Aisha’s behavior suggests that great apes(类人猿)engage in playful teasing(戏弄)just like humans and that the roots of human humor can go back 1.3million years to the common ancestors of apes and humans.(阿伊莎的行为表明,类人猿和人类一样会开玩笑,而人类幽默的根源可以追溯到130万年前的类人猿和人类的共同祖先)”可知,文章主要介绍了类人猿(如猩猩、黑猩猩、倭黑猩猩和大猩猩)之间的开玩笑行为,研究表明这种行为与人类的幽默有着共同的起源,并且这种行为可能也存在于其他高度社会化的动物中。 I can’t recall exactly how the concept of “Attic (阁楼) notebooks” came to me, but it paid off. I keep using this method because it always surprises me and has proven its worth time and again. ____12____ You write in it regularly in short sessions. The rule is that you don’t look back at what you’ve written until the notebook is full. You just keep moving forward and never look back. It is very suitable to finish writing a notebook in about a month. Once it’s full, you close it, write the date on it, and put it aside for a long period of no less than a month. When you finally read it, it’s like stumbling (蹒跚) upon a strange notebook in an attic, filled with all kinds of stories, poems, and ideas. Fun, non-goal-directed writing exercises can help you get into a state of flow. It is really good for your creativity and your work. ____13____ Even just a few minutes of writing each day can have a significant impact. My novel is very different from my notebook writing. A novel has high expectations and fixed elements like plots, mood, and themes. ____14____ Anything can happen, and it usually does. To start this writing exercise, you can use writing prompts (提示). I made a “Promptember” list to make it easier. Just pick the daily prompt and start writing. Also, don’t over-plan. Keep the prompt in mind loosely and start writing. ____15____ You can decide to write a certain number of pages or for a specific amount of minutes, like 3 pages or 15 minutes. Moreover, avoid self-criticism. Since you can’t read what you wrote until later, you won’t feel discouraged. This helps silence that inner voice of criticism. Finally, pick the right notebook. ____16____ I hope you’ll give this a shot. Regular, fun writing exercises can really unlock your creative potential and boost your writing skills. A. The more you write, the better you become. B. Long-time daily writing is highly necessary. C. Setting a time or page limit is also important. D. But in my notebook, there are no such restrictions. E. An attic notebook is a continuous writing exercise. F. Thin notebooks are better as they’re easier to handle. G. I recommend thick notebooks for a 2-year writing period. 12. E 13. A 14. D 15. It was game day, and I should have been focused, but my mind was elsewhere. My thoughts dragged me down, and I couldn’t shake the heaviness I felt. Every time I passed the ball, Ryan, one of our best players, would make some snide (挖苦的) remarks: “Can’t you aim better, Eliot?” or “Guess we know who won’t be taking the game-winning shot today.” His words cut deep, feeding my doubts. I wanted to fire back, but the energy wasn’t there. Coach Rivera noticed something was off. “Eliot, can I talk to you for a second?” he said after practice. His voice was calm but firm, the way it always was when he saw something wrong. I sighed, knowing I couldn’t avoid the conversation. “Yeah, Coach?” He studied me for a moment, his eyes serious. “You’re not yourself lately. I’ve also noticed there’s tension between you and Ryan. What’s going on?” I hesitated, then said, “Nothing, I’m fine.” Coach didn’t buy it. “I’ve been around long enough to know when something’s weighing on a player. You’ re not just dealing with basketball issues, are you?” I finally admitted, my throat tight and my eyes starting to water, “I have some family problems…my parents had an accident, and I’ve had to take care of them.” Coach nodded, understanding. “That’s a lot to handle. But Ryan... he’s a tough guy, and you two are teammates, and the team only works if you’ re united. Let’s talk things through.” The next day. Coach pulled Ryan and me aside. The conversation was awkward at first. Ryan explained that he felt I wasn’t pulling my weight in the games. I told him about my situation though I didn’t go into details. Ryan’s expression softened. “I didn’t know you were dealing with so much. I’m sorry for pushing you too hard,” he said. “I could’ve handled it better,” I admitted. With Coach’s help, Ryan and I started working together instead of against each other. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ In the championship game, Ryan passed me the ball for the game-winning shot. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: With Coach’s help, Ryan and I started working together instead of against each other. We found a rhythm on the court that we hadn’t had before. Ryan made an effort to understand my situation off the court and offered his support. Our teamwork improved, and so did our performance. The atmosphere in the gym became more positive, filled with encouragement. It was about overcoming challenges together. Coach reminded us that growth often comes from facing adversity, and through this, we learned lessons beyond the sport. In the championship game, Ryan passed me the ball for the game-winning shot. Time seemed to slow as I took the shot. It wasn’t just about scoring; it symbolized all we’d been through. The crowd cheered as the ball went in. This victory felt sweeter because it showed our growth and the strength gained off the court. Ryan’s trust during that moment proved we had turned a corner. We didn’t just win a game; we strengthened our bond as teammates and friends. 词汇激活 行为类 ①投球:took the shot/released the ball/ launched the shot ②欢呼:cheered/ applauded/ erupted ③获得:gain/obtain/get 情绪类 ①令人满意:felt sweeter/feel more fulfilling/feel more pleasant 【点睛】[高分句型1] We found a rhythm on the court that we hadn’t had before.(运用了that引导的定语从句) [高分句型2] Time seemed to slow as I took the shot.(运用了as引导的时间状语从句) [高分句型3] This victory felt sweeter because it showed our growth and the strength gained off the court.(运用了because引导的原因状语从句以及过去分词短语作定语修饰strength) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 江苏省镇江中学2024-2025学年度高二下学期英语3月月考 英语试卷 第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分) 第一节 (共15小题:每小题2.5分,满分37.5分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 A Language-Art Project 2025: Events And Online Exhibition Now Live The annual Language-Art Project brings international students of our university together to share and discuss all things about language and create language-themed art. At the age of 70, the retired Malaysian manager got his degree from Southwestern University PHINMA. “My family and friends were surprised at first. Several of my friends thought I was crazy to want to study medicine at this age,” Toh said. “It wasn’t always easy. At 65 to 70 years old, my memory, eyesight, hearing and body are not as good as when I was younger.” After decades working as a tech seller, he retired in 2019. A few days later, he began studying and applying to medical schools around Asia. “The only reason why I decided to do so was that I wanted to do something useful,” he said. One of the obstacles Toh met was finding a university that would admit him, as most are just for applicants under 35 or 40. Once admitted to Southwestern University PHINMA, he dealt with the school closures due to the pandemic. He had to take all of his lectures online, which was not easy for him. “Studying medicine is hard. It’s just hard work,” Toh said. He wasn’t given special treatment. He was held back a year after failing an exam in his third year. And like the rest of his classmates, in his final year, Toh was required to complete a one-year placement (实习工作) at a hospital, with some shifts lasting up to 30 hours. That’s why his family and classmates often visited him, inspiring him to keep going. “I was initially surprised and curious about why he wanted to become a doctor at his age,” one of his classmates said. “Despite being older, Toh was no less of a student. He was really competitive, and a true inspiration. I’m proud to have graduated alongside such a remarkable individual.” 4 What’s the purpose of Toh’s studying medicine? A. To improve his work. B. What message does the text convey? A. Lifelong learning matters in modern society. B. Anyone can pursue their dreams at any age. C. Universities should be open to older applicants. D. Age is not a problem in becoming a tech seller. C D One sunny afternoon, three-year-old Aisha, an orangutan at the San Diego Zoo, played outside while her father sat nearby. A Humor Is Older than Humans. B. Playful Teasing Is Conducted Across Species. C. Study Discovers the Secret of Our Ancestors. D. Zoo Animals Enjoy Taking Each Other by Surprise. I can’t recall exactly how the concept of “Attic (阁楼) notebooks” came to me, but it paid off. G.
