高尔夫小将倪梓心
Golf may seem like a sport far from the lives
of teenagers. 1 Ni Zixin from Hubei is
showing that this doesnt have to be the fact.
The 16-year-old golfer from Hubei got a lot of
attention at the 75th US Girls Junior
Championship (锦标赛) in California, US, in
mid-July. With a great score, Ni not only got first
place but also set a new 2 for the best score
ever by a Chinese player in the event.
Ni started playing golf when she was 9 years
old. “After 3 an afternoon on the course, I
fell in love with the game,” Ni said.
Her interest 4 grew into a strong passion
(热情). Over the years, Ni has followed a strict
training schedule at a local golf club, practicing
three to four afternoons a week on the golf course
and spending half of 5 weekends on extra
practice. “ I do a lot of technical exercises and
6 professional matches,” she said.
“Weekends are the hardest because I get home
late, but I always 7 my schoolwork. ”
Ni agrees that golf is seen as an 8 sport
because buying gear ( 装 备 ) and using golf
courses cost a lot. However, she believes that
with more attention and events, more people can
9 golf and come to enjoy it.
To Ni, golf is more than just a sport — it
teaches patience, focus and social skills. Even
when played just for fun, golf can bring happiness
and encourage 10 habits. “I hope to play for
China in big events like the Asian Games and the
Olympics and win gold medals,” Ni said.

How to Develop Good Study Habits
Most teenagers need to learn how to develop
good study habits. Learning effective (有效的)
study methods can make you feel less stressed
about school and improve grades. 1
Make a plan ahead of time. First, create a
calendar. Use a large wall calendar and write all
of your tasks and activities on it. Next, create a
weekly planner. 2 You should make sure to
include time to work on each task a few days
before its due. Then, create a daily list. This to-
do list helps you to know what you should do a day
and see how much progress youre making.
Consider the study environment. 3
Maybe you work better alone. Or, maybe you like
to work in a group. No matter what place you
choose, when its homework time, thats the
environment you should study in.
4 It can be very distracting (使分心) to
have to look for a pencil or a ruler in the middle of
studying. Find a place where they can keep all
your homework materials so youre ready to go.
Keep a worry notepad (便笺). If you are
easily distracted by your own thoughts, a worry
notepad is a good tool for you. Instead of trying to
deal with all the distracting things, you can write
them down on the notepad. 5
Good study habits dont always come easily.
It takes time to develop.
A. Have all materials on hand.
B. Here are some useful methods.
C. Make a study plan for each week.
D. When you finish your homework, then you can
deal with the things.
E. Do you study better at school or at home?

“摩地大楼”
As you walk in the city and look up, some
skyscrapers (摩天大楼) may catch your eye. But
have you ever heard of earthscrapers? Do you
know what they look like?
Earthscrapers, as their name suggests, are the
opposite of skyscrapers. They begin at the ground
level as skyscrapers do, but they extend (延伸)
down for a very long way from the surface. So far,
earthscrapers have remained an idea.
However, quite a few architects (建筑师)
have tried to build earthscrapers. The most famous
is an entry ( 参 赛 作 品 ) to the 2012 Evolo
Skyscraper Competition. It was designed by an
architecture company in Mexico and just named
the Earthscraper. As shown in the picture, it
would be built under the central square of Mexico
City. It is about 300 meters deep and it includes a
ten-floor museum, a ten-floor shopping mall and
ten floors of apartments. All of these would be
built above 35 floors of office space at the bottom.
Whats more, the building would get natural light
and fresh air through a central hole that is covered
with a glass roof (顶部). This roof would also be
the floor of the square above the building.
In Mexico, new buildings in the central area
are not allowed to have more than eight floors.
Many people want to make better use of this area.
Thats why they want to build the Earthscraper.
But many problems remained to be solved. So,
there is still no such building.
Now, more and more people move to cities.
So it wont take too long before these underground
spaces are open to the public. Maybe some of us
will live and work a few hundred meters
underground in the future.
1. What do we know about earthscrapers from
Paragraph 2? A
A. They have not been built yet.
B. They will be used as parking lots.
C. They start at the underground level.
D. They are much smaller than skyscrapers.
2. Why do many people in Mexico want to build
the Earthscraper? C
A. To improve their own living conditions.
B. To solve the problems caused by skyscrapers.
C. To make sure the central area will be better
used.
D. To provide more jobs for people who move to
the city.
11
3. What might be the best title for the passage?
C
A. Mexico, a city full of tall buildings
B. The most famous earthscrapers in the world
