For me, one of the greatest pleasure in life is going to watch a great film at the cinema. It’s a chance for me to get away from real life. There’s nothing better than being lost in a story unless, of course, someone decides to break down the moment.
Whether at a cinema or a huge theatre, someone usually decides to treat the place like their own home! Here are some accepted ways of behaving at the cinema which some people don’t seem to understand.
To start with, some people always turn up late, causing you to rise from your seat to allow them to go past. Then, when you want to enjoy the surround-sound effects, someone begins to enjoy their drinks and popcorn and thus makes a lot of noises. And what I can’t stand most is people who decide to chat with their friends, sometimes not even about the film.
I’m not alone in this situation. Simon Mayo, a film critic (评论家) at the BBC experienced a “new low” during a film. He says, “The woman in front of me got a mirror out, then her boyfriend got a phone out and used the light on it to allow her to do her make-up!”
Simon has helped to create a list of rules on how moviegoers should behave at the cinema. One of them is no use of mobile phones, and another is not to take your shoes off—a most serious offence (冒犯).
Of course, when we have paid for a ticket, we feel it is our right to relax and enjoy the film in the way we want to, but we mustn’t forget our fellow moviegoers who want to enjoy the cinematic experience, too.
The best choice for anyone wanting to break the rules of cinema manners is to get a DVD and watch it at home. But we all know that the best way to enjoy the art of cinematography is on the big screen. ________
What about you? What annoys you about other people at the cinema?
29.Why does the writer enjoy going to the cinema?
A.It makes him feel like being at home. B.He wants to enjoy the cinematic experience.
C.He prefers watching the films on big screens. D.It gives him a moment to stay away from real life.
30.What is considered by Simon to be the rudest at a cinema?
A.Doing the making-up.B.Using mobile phones.C.Taking the shoes off. D.Chatting with friends.
31.Which is the best sentence to fill in the blank in Paragraph 7?
A.Just stay at home!B.It’s your choice! C.Go to the cinema! D.Manners are important!

Are you sleeping well? One third of a person’s life is spent sleeping, so sleep is a very important topic. How much do you know about sleep?Do you know what kind of relationship there is between sleep and memory?
In psychology, memory is learning that has continued over time. Memory is divided into three stages, one is sensory memory, one is short-term memory, and the other is long-term memory. Long-term memory is divided into situational memory (语义记忆), and procedural memory related to “how to do”.
After understanding memory, what is a sleep stage? Sleep is divided into several different stages as follows, the first stage is just getting ready for sleep, then gently falling asleep, then we go into the deep sleep stage, and finally the rapid eye movement stage.
You might think that your brain rests when you sleep, but that’s not the case. In fact, our brain is working very hard when we are sleeping.
There are different forms of brain waves that match different stages of sleep. When we are just about to get ready for sleep, our brain waves go into a steady (稳定的) and rhythmic state, the brain waves will become slower. This stage is very important for our long-term memory. Besides, it’s good for getting rid of tiredness (免疫力) against disease. Finally in the rapid eye movement stage, this is when we are often dreaming.
Why do we sleep? Two very important reasons are that sleep can be very helpful in our health, reducing stress, and that during sleep the brain cleans up waste in the brain and then helps to make those new memories form long-term memories. So when we don’t get enough sleep, we have mood swings, overeating and other problems.
Obviously, having a goodnight’s sleep is important for our memory.
32.Why do the writer use the questions in the first paragraph?
A.To get readers’ answers.
B.To introduce the topic.
C.To show the writer’s interest.
D.To give readers’ suggestions.
33.The second and third paragraphs are about ________.
A.3 stages of memory and 3 stages of sleep
B.relationship between memory and sleep
C.3 stages of memory and 4 stages of sleep
D.long-term memory and stages of sleep
34.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Our brain is in the state (状态) of working when we are sleeping.
B.The brain waves becomes slower when we get ready for sleep.
C.We’ll lose our memory and get angry easily with enough sleep.
D.The deep sleep stage is only important for our long-term memory.
35.After the last paragraph, the writer may write about “_________”.
A.Why sleep is important to us
B.How we have a good memory
C.When we can go to bed
D.How we have a goodnight’s sleep

My first name was Philip, but when I was a small child, I could only say Pip. So Pip became my name. I lived in a small village with my sister, who married Joe, the village blacksmith (铁匠). My parents had died years ago, so I often went to visit the churchyard to look at their names on their gravestones (墓碑).
One cold afternoon, I sat on a gravestone in that churchyard, listening to the sound of the sea.
“Don’t say a word!” cried a voice, as a man jumped up and caught me. “If you shout, I’ll kill you!” He was a big man, with an iron chain (铁链) on his leg. He looked tired, and hungry. I had never been so scared in my whole life.
“Oh! Don’t kill me, sir!”
“Tell me your name, boy!” he said, still holding me. “And show me where you live!”
“My name’s Pip, sir. And I live in the village over there.”
He picked me up and turned me upside down. A piece of old bread fell out of my pocket. He ate it like a dog.
“So where are your parents?” he asked.
“There, sir,” I answered, pointing to their graves.
“What!” he cried, and wanted to run, when he saw where I was pointing. “Oh!” he said. “They’re dead. Well, who do you live with?”
“With my sister, sir, wife of the blacksmith.”
“Blacksmith, you say?” And he looked down at his leg. Then he held me and looked down into my eyes.
“Now look here. You bring me a file and some food to me tomorrow morning. If you don’t, or if you tell anyone about me, I’ll cut your heart out.”
“I promise I’ll do it, sir,” my body was shaking.
“You see,” he continued, “I travel with a friend, who likes eating boys’ hearts. Wherever you are, we’ll find you.”
As soon as he turned, I ran home as fast as I could.

Some young people may go to bed late and get up late, such as sleeping from 2 am to 10 am. 44
