(2024·高一下广东茂名期末)Recently, I had the opportunity to spend a few days at “Dongfeng Space City” near the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, where I was sent by the national newspaper to cover the launch (发射) of the Shenzhou18 manned spacecraft. This experience provided me with a chance to learn about China's spacethemed tourism.
The Space City is where the Chinese aerospace dream begins. In 1970, China's first manmade satellite “Dongfanghong1” was launched from the Dongfanghong satellite launch site.In 2018, the Dongfanghong satellite launch site became a patriotic (爱国的) education base. The current launch site is called the “Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center”, and it is famous for being China's only manned space launch site.
For visitors, the quickest way to travel from Beijing to Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center is by flying to Jiayuguan Jiuquan Airport and then taking a fourhour drive to the city. The view through the car window reveals the vast Gobi Desert, with the sun casting its rays upon the “lonely” road.It is a landscape with little greenery and few buildings or other signs of human life.
However, inside the Space City, you'll find a whole new world: a park, a cinema, a clinic, a supermarket, hotels, restaurants, bakeries and clothing stores. There's even a farmers' market and a popular milk tea stand.Visitors to the Space City are often recommended to taste the “Aerospace Milk” and “Acrospace Yogurt”.Visitors can also taste grapes, watermelons, tomatoes, and other fruits and vegetables from the greenhouse at the launch site.
Visitors have the impression that they're in an ordinary Chinese town.It is only when you come across roads named after “Taikong” and “Yuzhou” that you truly understand the unique identity of this area.Local people have even designed the streetlights in the shape of rockets launching spacecraft. There is also a souvenir (纪念品) shop in the Space City where you can buy various models of rockets, satellites and astronauts.

Why do some music artists produce only one popular song and others make a hit after a hit? Now a study provides some tips on how to avoid being a onehit wonder.
Researcher Justin Berg looked at more than 3 million songs by almost 60,000 artists from 1959 to 2010.He defined a hit by referring to the weekly Billboard Hot 100,which tracks the most popular songs based on sales data and so on.He also made portfolios (作品集) for most of the artists who had at least one song on the Hot 100,so he could find out how varied an artist's portfolio was each year they released one or more songs. These portfolios also allowed him to compare onehit wonders to hugehit makers and to those who never made it big.
What Berg finally found was that artists with more variety in their portfolio have a better chance of landing repeated hits. But there's a difficult situation for artists who want to be popular over a long period of time.Variety isn't what helps artists land that first hit. It's the similarity of a new song to recent hits.
Blind Melon's No Rain is a good example. The song took off in the 1990s after the band released a strange music video showing a tap dancing(踢踏舞) girl dressed as a bee.But the band's songs weren't very unique or creative, and they hardly made themselves different from the other music at that time.
“The research backs up the intuitions (直觉) of artists and record companies,”says Storm Gloor,a music industry researcher.“However, since the data end in 2010,the research may not reflect the current state of popular music.Musicians are changing how they write songs to make them more attractive on Spotify or TikTok,” says Noah Askin,a computational social scientist.Berg believes this research can help tell if a work will be successful, but he warns that a completely datadriven approach may be misguided. It ought to be used together with artists' skill in making creative works.

8.Why did Berg make portfolios in the research?
A.To set a standard for a hit.
B.To collect the most popular songs.
C.To study the history of pop music.
D.To judge the variety of an artist's works.
根据第二段中的“so he could find out how varied an artist's portfolio...compare onehit wonders to hugehit makers...”
9.What most probably leads to an artist's first hit?
A.Introducing a unique music style.
B.Including different styles in a song.
C.Using a more accepted music style.
D.Producing a song similar to old songs.
根据第三段中的“Variety isn't what helps artists land that first hit. It's the similarity of a new song to recent hits.”
10.What can be inferred about Blind Melon?
A.They failed to stand out for long.
B.Their hit song had a special music style.
C.They benefited a lot from their dancing skills.
D.Their music videos were less popular in the 1990s.
11.Which of the following ideas may Berg agree with?
A.The research can hardly benefit young music producers.
B.The research can help musicians gain popularity online.
C.Artists should make popular works mainly by referring to data.
D.Music makers should consider both the data and creativity.
根据最后一段中的“Berg believes...a completely datadriven approach may be misguided...used together with artists' skill in making creative works.”

It is well known that children with stable, loving families are less likely to experience depression or anxiety. But little research has looked at positive effects.
Robert Whitaker at Columbia University in New York and his colleagues analyzed data from a survey of over 37,000 children aged 11 to 13 living in 26 countries that asked about their happiness and family relationships. They found close family relationship contributes to kids' growing both physically and mentally.
To assess family connections, the children were asked to rate on a fivepoint scale, how much they agreed with statements like “There are people in my family who care about me” and “My parent(s) listen to me and take what I say into account”.Their level of flourishing was measured by looking at the extent to which the children agreed,on a scale of 0 to 10 with statements such as “I like being the way I am”,and “I feel positive about my future”.Then the researchers used the responses to give each child a “family bond strength” score and a “flourishing” score. They found that the two scores were connected, and children with the strongest family bonds were 49 per cent more likely to flourish than those with the weakest.
Children with good family relationships are probably more likely to flourish because they have “an inner sense of safety”,says Whitaker. This sense of safety is what allows children to “understand who they are and accept who they are”,and to “grow and learn, have positive relationships and develop a sense of mastery and purpose”,he says.
To promote healthy family relationships,Whitaker says the best thing that parents and other caregivers can do is to spend quality time with children.“This can include simple activities like eating meals, going for walks or doing chores together,” he says.“Being present, open, interested and focused at these times is the basis of family connection.”

Daniel got a job as a delivery man to work his way through college. His parents couldn't save up all the money he needed to get into law school,so since he was 15,he would take summer jobs and find some other jobs between studies to earn extra cash.
The boy was determined and every day he would wake up at 5 am,summer or winter, riding on his old bike to deliver parcels. It wasn't an easy job, especially during winter.Besides that, his old bike was slow, making things harder. But that wasn't a problem for Daniel.
Daniel's schedule was always the same every day and people in the neighborhood already knew him.
He called them by their names, and they would often wave and greet him as he passed.
It was a normal day and Daniel was delivering parcels as usual.“Morning,Daniel! Check out my brandnew mountain bike!” called out a man whose home Daniel visited frequently.“Morning,Mr Warren! That's a really fancy bike!” Daniel screamed back at him as he rode towards his first delivery. He couldn't help imagining what it would feel like to own a bike like the one Mr Warren had just shown him.“My deliveries would double with that,” he thought longingly.
Suddenly,Daniel lost balance and fell on the road.He got up and leaned the bike against the wall to see what had happened. He found a nail stuck in the back tire(轮胎) and he unluckily had a flat tire.
As he turned around and tried to think of what to do,he saw something unusual.A strange man Daniel had never seen before furtively(鬼鬼祟祟地) looked around and placed a package under his jacket.“Hey!” Daniel shouted at the man.“Hey there! What are you doing? That's not yours!” The man heard Daniel and started to run as fast as he could.

After having a look at his bike's flat tire,Daniel quickly started to run after the man.
Mr Warren arrived on his new bike, and then helped pin (按住) the thief down.

After having a look at his bike's flat tire,Daniel quickly started to run after the man.“Stop! Thief!” Daniel cried out as he ran.The man was fast, but Daniel was faster.Daniel was gaining on the thief with every step he took. The desperate thief had to look over frequently to check the distance between them.Suddenly he tripped over a stone and fell.Daniel immediately caught him by the arm.The thief struggled to his feet, waving his fist toward Daniel in an attempt to escape.Daniel was holding the thief tight when he heard someone shouting “Here I come!”
Mr Warren arrived on his new bike, and then helped pin the thief down.Daniel told Mr Warren what had happened and called the police.Shortly afterwards,a policeman arrived and took the thief away. When Daniel was about to leave,Mr Warren stopped him and offered his new bike to Daniel and told him it was a gift for him. When Daniel tried to refuse such a generous gift,Mr Warren insisted he take the bike, saying that it was actually a reward for Daniel's bravery.Tears in his eyes,Daniel said,“Thank you so much! I'm glad to be of any help to you guys!”
