For as long as he can remember, Kade Lovell has had a love of running, leading him to start
running with a cross鄄country club when he was just 6 years old. Now, he蒺s winning races he didn蒺t
even mean to enter.
To help him train for his second Junior Olympics, his mom, Heather Lovell, signed him up for
the St. Francis Franny Flyer 5K. The race was going smoothly at first, but things took a terrifying
turn when Kade briefly went missing. Heather tried remaining calm at first, assuming that Kade was
having a slow day. But when other kids who are usually slower than him started passing by, she
knew something had gone wrong. She had everyone looking for him, even a fireman.
Finally, a runner called her husband, saying he had noticed a little kid who was running really
well in his own race. When Heather heard about this, she felt relieved and upset, thinking that Kade
had purposefully left his own race in order to join the other. She quickly learned, however, that
Kade蒺s longer journey wasn蒺t planned.
“
I was just running,
”
Kade said.
“
As soon as I saw the 5K turn, a lady told me to keep going
straight. So I kept going straight. I was a little confused.
”
He didn蒺t even realize that he had made a
mistake until he saw a sign indicating he was on the 10K route
(路线)
. His first thought was that
he might not be able to catch up with the others, but this determined 9鄄year鄄old just kept running.
Fast enough, it turned out, for him to finish the race in just over 48 minutes, landing him in first
place! The second place winner is 40 years old, and the average age of those in the top 10 was 38
years old.
4. What did Kade Lovell do at the age of 6?
A. He ran his first Junior Olympics.
B. He built up a love of running.

color photographs from the early 20th century. The Albert Kahn Museum has made more than
70,000 photographs accessible to the public at high resolution
(分辨率)
as part of its efforts to di鄄
gitize the Archives of the Planet project.
French banker Albert Kahn started the project in 1908 with the goal of photographing people
around the world. Kahn hired 12 professional photographers to travel to more than 60 countries. Not
only did they take photos of people, but they also documented important historical events. After col鄄
lecting nearly 72,000 photos and videos, the project came to a stop in 1931 after Kahn went broke.
Kahn died on November 14,1940 and in 1986, what was once his home became a museum. The
Albert Kahn Museum is a place that educates people about images and through images, where dis鄄
cussions and exchanges raise the public蒺s awareness about social and aesthetic
(美学的)
issues. Its
collections go beyond the museum蒺s walls to be shared with the general public, specifically in
schools and online.
While the photos were previously accessible online, low resolution made it difficult for people
to fully enjoy the works. Now, everything has been made easily accessible and the public can fully
appreciate Kahn蒺s documentation of a world that was coming into globalization. Through the image
portal
(门户网站)
, visitors can have a look at 80% of the Archives of the Planet online and even
download the images at high resolution. The only problem is that the portal is in French, but it蒺s
well worth using a translation app to enjoy the images.
8. What might the Archives of the Planet project have been aimed at?
A. Taking photos of many nice people.
B. Recording real life then globally.
C. Making collections for the museum.
D. Searching for professional photographers.
9. What can we learn about the Albert Kahn Museum?
A. It offers people online and on鄄site service.
B. It was set up with the help of photographers.
C. It encourages people to visit museums.
D. It teaches students how to take photos.
10. Why are the images from the Archives of the Planet project highly recommended now?
A. They connect people to the Albert Kahn Museum.
B. They are presented in digital form for the first time.
C. They make it possible to spread the French language.
D. They are accessible online and of high quality.
11. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To describe a meaningful discovery.
B. To report some historical events.
C. To introduce a museum project.
D. To comment on a historical figure.
D
In an effort to help eco鄄conscious consumers
(消费者)
, a nonprofit group Free鄄Go in Geneva,
Switzerland is making fridges available so restaurant owners and cooks can make food available to
the public before it goes bad. It蒺s part of a bigger effort by communities in Switzerland and other
European countries to do their part for the environment and to cut down on food waste.
The program costs about $40,000 to run each year and enjoys the support from both charity
groups and the city government. It launched a year ago with a single fridge outside a community
center in western Geneva and it now has four fridges, placed around town.
Marine Delevaux is the project蒺s director. She said the food left in the fridges is generally
snapped up within an hour after delivery. For health and legal reasons, no frozen foods, open food
containers, or alcohol are permitted in the fridges.
Free鄄Go says contributors of food from the private sector
—
like restaurants
—
must promise to
ensure the donated food is safe to eat. Swiss law says food past the
“
recommended use鄄by date
”
can be consumed for up to a year afterwards. About l billion tons of food go to waste every year
around the world
—
using up energy and other resources in the farming and transportation process.
“
Generally, when the food collected from shops and restaurants arrives in the morning, people
are already waiting to help themselves,
”
Delevaux said, adding that the first Geneva fridge helped
save some 3.2 tons of food from going to waste last year.
Because the food is free and the donations can change, it蒺s uncertain what will turn up in the
fridges. Some people receiving food might end up being disappointed.
Cuendet is a 54鄄year鄄old teacher. Just after leaving some vegetables that she grew, she praised
the program.
12. What蒺s the goal of the nonprofit group Free鄄Go?
A. To reduce food waste.
B. To give away food fairly.
C. To improve consumers蒺 health.
D. To stress the importance of the environment.
13. Which can replace the underlined part
“
snapped up
”
in Paragraph 3?
A. Eaten. B. Taken. C. Bought. D. Charged.
14. Why may some people be upset about the food?
A. The food is sometimes out of date.
B. There is a collection of junk food.
C. The tastes of food are always changing.
D. They might not get what they want or need.
15. What will the author continue talking about?
A. The protection of the environment.
B. The food safety problems in Geneva.
C. More people蒺s opinions about the program.
D. Other social problems caused by food waste.

Tips to build self鄄discipline
(自律)
in students
Stay positive
16 , instead of getting discouraged just take notes about it and challenge yourself not to let
it happen again. Think positive and use your mistakes to your advantage! A positive mind and atti鄄
tude can go a long way towards your success as a student.
Set clear goals
We have to keep in mind where we want to go and what we want to finish. If we don蒺t set
clear goals, we蒺ll float around like feathers in the wind. Then show these goals where you will see
them every day. 17 . So I made a plan each day and ran 15 miles a week. Every day, I looked at
those goals and made sure I had achieved them.
18
No one likes to sleep in more than I do. I am entirely a night owl
(夜猫子)
. However, when
I蒺m in the habit of getting up early, I am much more disciplined and productive. Getting up early
doesn蒺t give us the ability to create miracles, but it does help us start our day蒺s work in a focused
way.
Do the small things
We all want big changes to happen quickly. 19 . Self鄄discipline starts by performing small
and ordinary activities consistently. Every small act of faithfulness makes your self鄄discipline
stronger.
Apart from the above tips, keeping track of your progress is also important. It蒺s easy to lack
discipline when you lose focus on where you蒺re going. 20 .
A. Get up early
B. And when I breathe deeply
C. I ended up in bed for six weeks
D. It usually doesn蒺t happen that way
E. Several years ago, I wanted to lose 20 pounds
F. If you feel you are losing control of your actions
G. Keeping track helps you stay in the right direction

It was a great pity that I had not put forth the amount of effort required. I had spent too much
time playing with my friends instead of practicing ballet to improve myself. I had let down my
teacher, who was the kindest, sweetest and prettiest one I had ever known. She laughed often, and
never threatened any of us, yet she was able to

effectively. Miss Pratt put a lot of herself into her work. Every day near the close of school, she
would read to us, or even better, tell us stories about her childhood. Most importantly, she made us
feel that she cared about us and that we were important.
Because of a serious car accident when I was three and a half years old, I had a scar
(伤疤)
below my nose. Everything else had healed up without any after effects physically, but my emotions
remained scarred. Meanwhile, having been laughed at by many naughty children, my confidence had
suffered. Although my parents and relatives referred to me as pretty, I did not see myself that way.
Focusing on my scar, I could not appreciate my other features at that time. At the end of one
school day, I remained in my classroom, waiting for the arrival of my mother, who was coming to

第一节
One possible version:
Dear editor,
Writing this letter, I am trying to express my opinion on whether students should have more than one music class every week. I
am strongly for the idea that students should have more than one music class every week.
Since music education is a required subject and is helpful in developing students蒺 ability to appreciate beauty, it is advisable that
the school open more than one music class every week. What蒺s more, singing or just enjoying music can make students relax and then
they will be more concentrated in the following classes.
I hope my advice will be helpful to you!
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节
One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
“
Pretty
”
was exactly what touched me since it was almost my favorite word. At that moment, I felt myself surrounded with a lot of
warmth and love. I knew teachers would never lie. It was Miss Pratt who brought a lot of confidence to me. From that moment on, I
made the decision to practice ballet hard to be the first in my class. Whatever it took and no matter how much time I spent, I would try
my best to succeed.
Paragraph 2:
About one month later, Miss Pratt announced that I got first place in a competition. The moment Miss Pratt finished what she said,
the whole class cheered and clapped for me. For the first time, I felt truly good about myself and I knew I had been motivated by Miss
Pratt蒺s remarks. This might not have occurred if I had not heard those kind words. Thank you so much, Miss Pratt! What a difference
you have made! I am determined to be a caring teacher like you!
