三、阅读单选(本大题共15小题,每小题1分,共15分)
(A)
Where do you usually study on the weekends? Some students like to study in the library while others prefer to study at home. What is the difference between a library and a living room? Which is better for studying?
Many students find it comfortable to study in their own space. A familiar environment can make it easier to handle stress. You have all your stuff around you, and you don’t have to spend extra (额外的) money on lunch. You can study day or night and stop to rest whenever you want. There are a lot of advantages to study at home.
However, it’s not without problems. Your comfortable bed may keep you from paying attention to your studies. Have you ever been told not to confuse (混淆) a place of rest with a place to work? If your bedroom becomes a place for both, your brain may do both tasks poorly.
Libraries are specially designed for focused (专注的) work. There are plenty of helpful books, and you can meet other students and form a study group. But libraries also have their disadvantages. For example, they are often crowded. It can be not easy to get a seat, and there may be noise from people typing on their computers.
It can be difficult to decide whether your home or the library is a better place to study. You can have different tries. Take a task like reading. First, try studying in your living room. Then, go to the library and read a different part of the same book. After each try, take notes to describe how you felt and how well you were able to study. This way you can discover your best study environment.

As Chinese users get used to their nightly surfing on Xiaohongshu, they are seeing a flood of English-language content. Many users from the US, calling themselves “TikTok refugees (抖音难民),” have joined this Chinese app.
“Hello everyone, I’m Ryan, a TikTok refugee. The American government is banning TikTok, so we’re looking for another choice...We’re sorry to break in here.” one of the vloggers said in a video.
There is a growing belief in the US that the Supreme Court will stick to banning TikTok because of the so-called China threat (威胁) to information security. This leaves its 170 million users frustrated. The ban is set to begin on Sunday, unless TikTok is sold by its parent company, ByteDance.
As US users tag themselves with the hashtag (话题标签) tiktok refugees, they are moving to the Chinese app. By Tuesday, there were over 114,000 posts with the hashtag, and more than 2 million discussions and 73 million views by 6 pm Beijing time. Xiaohongshu became the most downloaded app on the US app store on Tuesday.
Chinese users have shown kindness to the newcomers, offering to help them learn Chinese and teaching them English. However, not all cultural exchanges have gone well. A user from Beijing, Yuzijiang, received criticism from US users for “supporting stereotypes (刻板印象)” after posting a video of herself dancing with her curly hair. Many Chinese users are worried that US ideas and harmful cultures like porn, gambling, and drug use could spread in the Chinese online community.
According to an expert from Fudan University, the influx (涌入) of “TikTok refugees” may not last long. Since American ideas differ greatly from those in China, US culture will likely have little lasting effect on Xiaohongshu’s community.

( )40.What can we inter from the last paragraph?

If you were hungry, for example, you might point to your mouth, but you would not be able to tell your mother what kind of food you would like to eat. If you had never learned how to use English or any other language, you would have lots of difficulty communicating with others. You are lucky to have the ability to use language.
When you use language, you communicate ideas. Communication includes understanding what others say and being able to express your ideas to others. When people communicate, they use words. Sometimes a single word will express an idea very clearly. At other times words must be combined (组合) into sentences to express ideas. In most sentences certain words are more important than others.
Example:
Nick: What time is it?
Wendell: It is three o’clock.
The word that is italicized (用斜体印刷) in each sentence is the most important word.
Just think how many times you say important words such as “yes” and “no” in response (答复) to other people’s questions. You often use words such as “hello” “good-bye” “good morning” and “good night”. You have been taught to politely say “please” “thank you” and “ ▲ ”.
Many of the words are organized into categories (类别) and stored in your mind for future use. You are familiar with the words red, green, blue, orange, and so on. You think of these words when you think of colors. When you think of animals, you will associate them with some words like dogs, cats, horses, and snakes.
Words for signals are very important when you follow or give directions. Look at this sentence: Stop what you are doing and come over here. What are the two most important words in this sentence? The answer is “stop” and “come”. These words tell a person what to do.
