Math had never been something I was good at since middle school. Classes became harder in high school, and I was even further from a math teacher’s dream student. So at the start of my freshman year, I had an aversion to math. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to do well, but simply, that I didn’t think I was able to do well. “I can’t” became my state of mind in all things related to math.
However, I was soon to learn that “I can’t” was not a choice in Mr. Green’s class.
Mr. Green always greeted us with open arms as he said, “Welcome! Smile! It’s a great day to be alive!” It was clear that Mr. Green had a true passion (热情) not only for math but for teaching. If Mr. Green ever experienced bad days in life, he never showed it. Mr. Green greeted us with that same smile every day. He encouraged each student, from the top achiever to the “I can’t” student.
I found myself looking forward to math class, although I still hated the subject itself. Being in Mr. Green’s presence made me feel good, as if I had the chance to succeed. As the year progressed, I spent increasingly more time on my homework, and I met with Mr. Green weekly. My classmates began to do the same, and it became “cool” to have lunch and talk with Mr. Green. We didn’t know it at that time, but he was changing our attitudes.
Though my story is not one of overnight success and I didn’t become a straight-A math student, my hard work did begin to pay off and my grades slowly. began to climb. There were hard times, of course. Difficult math questions sometimes succeeded in bringing me down, but Mr. Green kept reminding (提醒) me, “Kate, smile! It’s a great day to be alive!”
4. What does the underlined word “aversion” in paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. Dream. B. Dislike. C. Duty. D. Passion.
5. What first made the author look forward to math class?
A. Her friends’ encouragement. B. Her interest in math.
C. Mr. Green’s attitude. D. The top achievers in her class.
6. How did the author change in math?
A. She made slow progress. B. She fell in love with math.
C. She became a straight-A math student. D. She became comfortable with hard math.
7. Which of the following can best describe Mr. Green?
A. Honest and humorous. B. Strong and friendly.
C. Strict and responsible. D. Passionate and active.
【答案】4. B 5. C 6. A 7. D

【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。作者不擅长数学,并且厌恶数学,但大一时格林老师让作者改变了态度,于是成绩开始慢慢上升。
【4题详解】
词句猜测题。根据划线词上文“Math had never been something I was good at since middle school. Classes became harder in high school, and I was even further from a math teacher’s dream student.(从中学开始,我就不擅长数学。高中的课程越来越难,我离数学老师理想中的学生更远了)”可知,从中学到高中,作者的数学都不好。结合划线词所在句中“So”可知,划线词所在句与上文之间有因果关系:因为数学一直都不好,所以讨厌数学。故推知,aversion意为“厌恶”,和dislike意思相近。故选B。
【5题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中“It was clear that Mr. Green had a true passion (热情) not only for math but for teaching.(很明显,格林老师不仅对数学有着真正的热情,而且对教学也有着真诚的热情)”和“Mr. Green greeted us with that same smile every day. He encouraged each student, from the top achiever to the ‘I can’t’ student.(他鼓励每一个学生,从最优秀的学生到‘我不能’的学生)”可推知,是格林老师对数学学科和学生的态度让作者期待上数学课。故选C。
【6题详解】

For hundreds of years, America’s wilderness has been reduced due to growing cities, leaving outdoors lovers like hunters with fewer chances. By around 1900, too much hunting drove America’s deer nearly into extinction (灭绝), less than a half-million deer, from 45 million in 1450.
Law-makers began to make rules to protect deer and keep ecological balance (生态平衡). And it did make a big difference. By 2000, the deer population had come up to 38 million. Those days, millions of deer lived side by side with humans and could freely find enough food resources.
Gradually, the number of deer was increasing too rapidly, which was not good for both the animals and people. City hunting plays an important role in keeping ecological balance, particularly in places where the animals sometimes cause major problems.
“City deer hunting is a management practice used in many cities and suburban areas across the United States,” says Jason Andrews, program manager of the Urban Deer Hunt in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In the early 2000s, a high number of car accidents were caused by deer. And there was also significant vegetation degradation (植被退化) in many cities. Many possible solutions were researched by the city government. Some suggested hunting deer and other wild animals, but others were against that practice.
In the end, researchers determined that the most effective and sustainable (可持续的) population management solution would be hunting with bows. “City deer hunting is popular in cities that have too many wild deer as well as wooded areas,” says Andrews. “In Cedar Rapids, all parts of the city have right habitats to keep deer population, thus hunting is allowed. I must note that hunting is only allowed on private lands. No parks or any other public grounds can be hunted.”
8. What can we learn from paragraph 1?
A. The deer population was dropping rapidly.
B. Some cities grew smaller in the country.
C. The number of deer dropped to 1,450.
D. The deer population grew up by 45 million.
9. What can we infer about the rules for protecting deer?
A. They failed to be carried out in the US.
B. They were quite successful.
C. People had different attitudes towards them.
D. They were made by Jason Andrews.
10. Which tool is the best for deer hunting according to the text?
A. Stones. B. Guns. C. Branches. D. Bows.
11. What is the best title for the text?
A. Ways to Protect the Environment
B. The Number of Deer in the US
C. People’s Attitude to Deer Hunting
D. America’s Rules for Deer to Keep Ecological Balance
【答案】8. A 9. B 10. D 11. D

Due to social events in recent years, the relationship between social media and teenagers mental health has been under heated discussion.
On Sept. 30, a British court decided that content on social media platforms led to the depression (抑郁) of 14-year-old Molly Russell. Russell interacted with 2,100 posts related to pessimistic (悲观) and self-harm in the six months, leading up to her depression, reported the Observer website.
The correlation has also been proved by science. A study in 2019 showed that the frequent use of social media by teenagers can lead to a decrease in their mental health.
So, how can we make sure that teenagers won’t get hurt while using social media? Chan,18, from the University of Macao shared her experience. Chan said that she one cam e across short videos romanticizing (浪漫化) mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety. She immediately reported them to the platform.
But she said that the users’ power to control videos is still limited. “It is ultimately the responsibility of the social media platforms to get rid of content that is potentially harmful.” She also noticed that the age of social media users has become increasingly younger. Society should pay attention to this, she said. “Since it’s not possible to cut off access to social media for younger users, why not introduce a ‘supervision mode’ (监管模式) with which parents can regulate the content to be viewed by teenagers beforehand?” she said.
Wu Chengyu, 18, studies at Tianjin Experimental High School. He said that several years ago he came across a game that attracts teenagers to self-abuse and depression. He quickly chose to ignore it so he wouldn’t be influenced. This is the same way he reacts when exposed to negative content on social media.
In Wu’s opinion, teenagers today should improve their social media literacy (素养), telling real from fake and good from bad. “Also, everyone can be a content creator on social media.” he said. “We should all strengthen our awareness of ethics”.
12. What led to Russell’s depression according to a British court?
A. Her interaction with others online.
B. Negative information on social media platforms.
C. Short videos she watched on the Internet.
D. Her addiction to online posts.
13. Which of the following statements does Chan probably agree with?
A. A supervision mode ought to be introduced by parents.
B. The number of younger social media users should be limited.
C. It is the responsibility of the society to romanticize mental illnesses.
D. Parents should monitor the content to be viewed by teenagers in advance.
14. Who should be ultimately responsible for removing negative content according to Chan?
A. Parents. B. Schools.
C. Social media platforms. D. Content creators.
15. What does Wu suggest teenagers should do?
A. Use social media wisely. B. Reduce social media usage.
C. Stay away from online games. D. Learn more about social media.
【答案】12. B 13. D 14. C 15. A

【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段中““Since it’s not possible to cut off access to social media for younger users, why not introduce a ‘supervision mode’ (监管模式) with which parents can regulate the content to be viewed by teenagers beforehand?(既然不可能切断年轻用户对社交媒体的访问,为什么不引入一种“监督模式”,父母可以事先监管青少年观看的内容?)”可知,她认为家长应该提前监控青少年观看的内容。故选D。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段中“It is ultimately the responsibility of the social media platforms to filter out content that is potentially harmful. (过滤掉可能有害内容,最终是社交媒体平台的责任。)”可知,她认为社交媒体平台应该最终负责删除负面内容。故选C。

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I was a freshman in high school, eager to start a new chapter in my life. Little did I knew that my journey would be marked by an unexpected friendship. My desk mate, Tom, was a stutterer (结巴). Sometimes, it made me really uncomfortable.
The first day of school was exciting. I found my seat and settled in, only to be greeted by a nervous stutter from my deskmate. “H-Hello, I’m T-Tom,” he said. I tried to be polite. But inside, I felt embarrassed (尴尬). I was worried about how his stuttering would affect me, especially during class discussions. I avoided him as much as possible, not wanting to be associated with the awkwardness he seemed to bring.
One day, during a particularly challenging math class, I was struggling to understand a complex problem. The teacher, Mrs. Lee, noticed my confusion and asked if I needed help. Before I could answer, Tom spoke up. “I-I-I-I can help,” he offered, his stutter became mere noticeable under the pressure. To my surprise, he explained the problem clearly, and I began to see him in a new light. His intelligence and kindness shone through his stutter, and I felt guilty (内疚的) for my previous behavior.
As the weeks went by, I started to pay more attention to Tom. My friends noticed the change and asked about it. I shared my initial dislike and later admiration for Tom. They encouraged me to give him a chance, reminding me that everyone has their struggles. My parents, too, noticed my shift in attitude and discussed the importance of empathy and understanding. They told me about the times they faced difficulties, showing me that everyone has strengths beyond what people might see as weaknesses.
The turning point in our relationship came during the school’s annual talent show. Tom, despite his fear of public speaking, decided to take part in it.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;

After the talent show, Tom and I became close friends.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 He chose to recite a poem he had written. As he stepped onto the stage, I could see his hands shaking and his face turning red. But he took a deep breath and began. His stutter was still there, but his voice was filled with so much emotion and determination. The audience was silent, listening intently. When he finished, the room erupted in thunderous applause. I was on my feet, clapping the loudest, tears welling up in my eyes.
After the talent show, Tom and I became close friends. I no longer cared about his stutter but focused on the wonderful person he was inside. We studied together, shared our dreams and fears. I learned that true friendship isn’t about surface appearances or speech, but about accepting and supporting each other unconditionally. Through Tom, I grew to be a more understanding and compassionate person. I realized that everyone has their battles to fight and that kindness and acceptance can make a world of difference in someone’s life.

C
D America’s Rules for Deer to Keep Ecological Balance
