Danyang, often called the “City of Glasses”, is China’s largest production and export base for optical frames and lenses”(你有没有想过,你戴的眼镜可能来自中国东部江苏省的一个小城市丹阳? 根据最后一段“Zheng’an is the largest guitar manufacturing base in the world, producing more than 6 million guitars every year, which makes up half of China’s total guitar exports.” D。 B I once thought that outward beauty was the only factor to become a great person. When I was young, I read many kinds of books, most of which described characters who are handsome or beautiful. So I thought that being beautiful was the only way to become a success. As I grew up, the story of my best friend made me realize that outward beauty was not so important to make a person successful. She was so beautiful a girl that every classmate liked to chat with her, but she was very arrogant (傲慢). In her opinion, she could get all she wanted because of her beauty, but all of her friends left her one by one! Only then did she come to know the importance of the beauty in a person’s heart, which changed her attitude and she made friends again. Turning on TV, we can see many advertisements, most of which seem to give us a feeling that physical attractiveness is the most important thing. There seems to be a boom in plastic surgery. It is surprising that more and more people, especially girls and women, try it like the first man-made beauty in China, Hao Lulu. It is a common sense that attractive people can easily find work. Most good-looking guys usually get higher scores in the job interviews. But, what is real beauty? I want to say that is inner beauty because those who have beauty in their soul are really beautiful persons. As is known, the beauty judged with eyes is temporary, so we should concentrate on inner beauty. And if we make efforts to make our minds beautiful, we’ll live a happier life. 4. Why did the author want to have a good appearance when she was young? A. Because she wanted to be one of the characters in the books. B. Because she wanted to get higher scores in the job interviews. C. Because she wanted to follow the example of her friend. D. Because the successful characters in the books she read were attractive. 5. Why did the writer refer to her friend’s story? A. To show how important outward beauty is. B. To show how terrible it is to be a beautiful girl. C. To show the importance of the beauty in a person’s heart. D. To show how beautiful her friend is. 6. What does the underlined sentence in the third paragraph mean? A. A large number of people pay attention to outer beauty. B. Surgery is becoming more and more popular. C. More people can afford the price of doing plastic surgery. D. The living standard has been improved over the past years. 7. Which of the following covers the passage best? A. How do attractive persons become successful? B. Inner beauty is the real beauty. C. The key factor to find a good job is being attractive. D. Plastic surgery is the best way to make a person more beautiful. D 5. C 6. A 7. 根据第一段最后两句“When I was young, I read many kinds of books, most of which described characters who are handsome or beautiful. So I thought that being beautiful was the only way to become a success. 根据第二段最后两句“In her opinion, she could get all she wanted because of her beauty, but all of her friends left her one by one! Only then did she come to know the importance of the beauty in a person’s heart, which changed her attitude and she made friends again. 根据第三段第三句“It is surprising that more and more people, especially girls and women, try it like the first man-made beauty in China, Hao Lulu. 故选A。 根据末段“As is known, the beauty judged with eyes is temporary, so we should concentrate on inner beauty. And if we make efforts to make our minds beautiful, we’ll live a happier life. B。 C Research shows that forming connections with your coworkers is good for your career and your overall happiness. It’s a fact that as you get older, it becomes harder to make friends. It’s a natural progression, whether you work in an office or a remote area. As you get older and leave school, you often have more demands for your time and fewer opportunities to get to know those around you. “Maintaining friendships takes effort, but it’s well worth it,” says CEO and Fast Company contributor Corey Weiner. “Studies show that a friend can make you a better collaborator (合作者), a more creative and productive worker and generally happier with your job.” After all, most of you spend a huge number of your waking hours at work. Of course, it’s more fun to have someone to collaborate with and occasionally sympathize with. But how do you go about making genuine connections with coworkers or other like-minded individuals in your industry? It might sound overly simplistic, but a big part of building friendships is just putting yourself out there. “If you’re not used to having a lot of friends any more, you may actually need to remind yourself to engage,” writes Professor Art Markman. “Set time on your calendar for a phone call or make plans to get a cup of coffee.” “Don’t wait for someone else to make the first move,” says Keith Rollag, author of What to Do When You’re New. “If things go well during an initial coffee or activity, actively follow up to build on that connection.” You’re not going to immediately bond with all of your coworkers or every person you meet at a networking happy hour. But making continual attempts to find connections with your non-annoying colleagues will eventually pay off. Last but not least, don’t call them work husband or work wife in the beginning. 8. Why is it harder to make friends when people get older? A. They focus more on other business. B. They have more demands on friends. C. They reject to put many efforts into it. D. They are too old to know other people. 9. What do the words of Corey Weiner show? A. The way to make friends. B. The need to do jobs well. C. The importance of the studies. D. The meaning of gaining friendship. 10. What does Keith Rollag attach importance to? A. Keeping in touch with old friends. B. Spending more time drinking coffee. C. The initiative in forming connections. D. The balance between work and life. 11. What is the author’s purpose in writing the last paragraph? A. To offer suggestions. B. To explain reasons. C. To draw conclusions. D. To make comments. A 9. D 10. C 11. 根据第二段中“As you get older and leave school, you often have more demands for your time and fewer opportunities to get to know those around you.”(随着年龄的增长和离开学校,你通常需要更多的时间,而了解周围人的机会却越来越少。)以及第四段中“After all, most of you spend a huge number of your waking hours at work.”(毕竟,大多数人醒着的大部分时间都花在工作上。) 故选A项。 根据第三段中“Studies show that a friend can make you a better collaborator (合作者), a more creative and productive worker and generally happier with your job.”(研究表明,朋友可以让你成为更好的合作者、更有创造力和生产力的员工,并且通常对你的工作更满意。) 根据倒数第二段中“If things go well during an initial coffee or activity, actively follow up to build on that connection”(如果在最初的咖啡或活动中一切进展顺利,请积极跟进以建立这种联系。) 根据最后一段中“You’re not going to immediately bond with all of your coworkers or every person you meet at a networking happy hour. But making continual attempts to find connections with your non-annoying colleagues will eventually pay off. Last but not least, don’t call them work husband or work wife in the beginning.”(你不会立即与所有同事或在社交遇到的每个人建立联系。 故选A项。 D Are you a good judge of character? Can you make an accurate judgment of people’s personalities based only on your first impression of them? Ironically, the answer lies as much in them as it does in you. US psychologist Henry Adams tried to identify good judges of character in 1927.His research led him to conclude that people fell into two groups—good judges of themselves and good judges of others. Adams’s research has been widely criticized since then, but he wasn’t entirely wrong about there being two clearly different types. We need to define what a good judge of character is. Is it someone who can read personality or someone who can read emotion? Those are two different skills. Emotions such as anger or joy or sadness can generate easily identifiable physical signs. Most of us would probably be able to accurately identify these signs, even in a stranger. As such, most of us are probably good judges of emotion. In order to be a good judge of personality, however, there needs to be an interaction with the other person, and that person needs to be a “good target”. “Good targets” are people who show related and useful clues to their personality. So this means “the good judge” will only appear when reading “good targets”. This is according to Rogers and Biesanz in their 2019 journal entitled “Reassessing the Good Judge of Personality”. “We found clear and strong evidence that the good judge does exist”, Rogers and Biesanz concluded. But their key finding is that the good judge does not have magical gifts of observation — they are simply able to “detect and use information provided by the good target”. So, are first impressions really accurate? Well, if you’re a good judge talking to a “good target”, then it seems the answer is “yes”. And now we know that good judges probably do exist, more researches can be done into how they read personality, what kind of people they are — and whether their skills can be taught. 12. What is the conclusion of Adams’s research? A. Fewer people can read physical signs. B. Most people are good judges of themselves. C. First impressions have a huge effect on people. D. There are two obviously different types of people. 13. What can be learned from Paragraph 4? A. There is no need to interact with the other person. B. Good judges are related to good targets. C. Good judges have magical talents for emotion. D. Good targets are persons who hide important information. 14. What is the author’s attitude towards the research on good judges? A. Disapproving. B. Indifferent. C. Objective. D. Pessimistic. 15. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text? A. To inform readers of a good judge of character. B. To highlight the importance of good character. C. To introduce some ways of define good characters. D. To explain what first impressions are. D 13. B 14. C 15. 根据第二段中“His research led him to conclude that people fell into two groups — good judges of themselves and good judges of others. Adams’s research has been widely criticized since then, but he wasn’t entirely wrong about there being two clearly different types.(他的研究使他得出结论,人可以分为两类:善于判断自己和善于判断他人。 根据第四段“In order to be a good judge of personality, however, there needs to be an interaction with the other person, and that person needs to be a “good target”. “Good targets” are people who show related and useful clues to their personality. So this means “the good judge” will only appear when reading “good targets”.( 然而,为了对性格做出好的判断,需要与他人进行互动,而这个人需要成为一个“好的目标”。“好目标”是那些表现出与其个性相关且有用线索的人。所以这意味着“好的判断”只会在阅读“好的目标”时出现)”可知,好的判断与好的目标有关。故选B。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“So, are first impressions really accurate? Well, if you’re a good judge talking to a “good target”, then it seems the answer is “yes”. And now we know that good judges probably do exist, more researches can be done into how they read personality, what kind of people they are — and whether their skills can be taught.(那么,第一印象真的准确吗? 根据第一段“Are you a good judge of character? Can you make an accurate judgment of people’s personalities based only on your first impression of them? Ironically, the answer lies as much in them as it does in you.(你看人准吗? 故选A。 How to go to bed earlier It can often feel like no matter what you do, you just can't get enough of sleep to wake up feeling refreshed. However, it is often easier said than done D. You sleep best when the temperature is cool E. Soft music can help adults relax and fall asleep faster F. The answer is as simple as the advice your mother always gives you: Get to bed earlier G. One way to motivate yourself to go to bed is to give yourself something to look forward to 【答案】16. F 17. G 18. D 19. E 20. 【16题详解】 根据空格前的内容“It can often feel like no matter what you do, you just can't get enough of sleep to wake up feeling refreshed. What can you do about it? 可知,F项(答案就像你妈妈给你的建议一样简单:早点睡觉)是对空格前句的回答,空格后的“Try the following strategies, so nothing stands between you and your bed each night.(尝试以下策略,这样每晚你就能正常地按时入睡)”是在引出下文的“如何做到早睡”。故选F。 【17题详解】 根据本段的小标题“Pamper (娇宠) yourself(娇宠一下自己)”和空格后的内容“Think: cozy pajamas that you can't wait to put on at night and a luxurious sheet set that makes your bedroom feel like a five-star hotel.(想想晚上迫不及待要穿上的舒适睡衣和让你的卧室感觉像五星级酒店的豪华床单套装)”可知,G项(激励自己上床睡觉的一种方法是给自己一些值得期待的东西)是在说明“如何娇宠一下自己”,且下文中的“舒适的睡衣”和“豪华的床单”这两个例子是对G项中的“ something to look forward to”的举例说明。故选G。 【18题详解】 根据本段小标题“Program your thermostat(设置好你的自动调温器)”和空格后的内容“And your body temperature naturally declines as you prepare for sleep. So if you keep your thermostat higher during the day, setting a smart thermostat to drop the temperature of the house at a certain time each night can help to remind your body when it's bedtime.(当你准备睡觉时,你的体温会自然下降。 【19题详解】 根据空格前的内容“Babies aren't the only ones who can benefit from a good lullaby.(婴儿并不是唯一可以从好的催眠曲中受益的人)”和空格后的内容“Download a sleepy-time playlist to your phone, and then let it do its thing.(将帮助睡眠的播放列表下载到你的手机,然后让它发挥作用)”可知,E项(轻音乐可以帮助成年人放松并更快入睡)与本段小标题(听放松的音乐)相呼应,承接上文,说明音乐能够促进很多人睡眠质量的提高,下文是具体的操作办法。 While you can get just about any reading material on electronic devices like smart phones these days, the blue light they give out can keep you up at night. If you just can’t go back to turning pages, consider an e-reader that doesn't have a bright screen, like a basic Kindle.(是的,一本真正的纸制书。 故选A。 June is always a sad time for Senior 3 students. We hadn’t been doing this too long when we met a tall, thin gentleman I refer to as Blue Eyes. His blond hair was turning gray, and his eyes were as bright and blue as the summer sky.Blue Eyes smiled a lot.He knew that what he was doing on the streets was wrong. His addictions had taken hold of him, and he couldn’t pull away, though he never failed to let us know how thankful he was for us. Blue Eyes was a business owner once, married to a beautiful woman. But his wife got sick, and he used all his money for her treatment. When she died, not only did Blue Eyes lose the love of his life, but he was also out of money. Then his beloved dog passed away.During all that heartache Blue Eyes turned to drugs and alcohol to numb his pain.He lost his home, and he ended up on the streets. On one Sunday afternoon, one of the guys he shared the streets with advised us that Blue Eyes was sick and needed help getting a prescription (处方) filled. When we mentioned this to Blue Eyes, he put down his head, ashamed to make it seem that he had to ask for help. We learned that he had cancer and various other illnesses. His prescription would cost sixty dollars—an amount that he didn’t have.We assured him that we would get it filled for him. Walking away from him that day I wondered what we had just done. As much as we loved spending time with our homeless friends, the amount of money we were spending on the food and snack bags made our budget tight. But sixty dollars extra for a prescription? I didn’t see how we were going to pull that off. Something told me to just have faith, though. We went to the pharmacy (药店) and dropped off the prescription to be filled. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The very next day, walking into work, I saw an envelope on the ground. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: We went to the pharmacy (药店) and dropped off the prescription to be filled. Because we were aware of the addictions among the population we were dealing with, we made sure to discuss the situation with the pharmacist, who confirmed that the medicine was legal and not associated with any type of street drug. Then he confirmed the sixty-dollar price. We left with the confidence that everything would workout. We didn’t know how or when. The very next day, walking into work, I saw an envelope on the ground. It was folded in half and looked as though it had been stepped on a dozen times. I kicked it aside, but then I felt guilty for not picking it up, so I turned around and went back to throw it in the garbage. As I picked it up, I decided to open it. I felt my legs go a bit numb, and I had to lean against the wall when I saw what was inside. There was only one thing in that envelope—a $100 bill. 词汇激活 行为类 意识到:be aware of /realise/recognize 谈论:discuss/talk about/ask 证实,确认:confirm/convince/prove 情绪类 愧疚,惭愧:guilty/ashamed/regretful 麻木的,迟钝的:numb/insensitive/insensible/ 点睛】【高分句型1】 Because we were aware of the addictions among the population we were dealing with, we made sure to discuss the situation with the pharmacist, who confirmed that the medicine was legal and not associated with any type of street drug. B I once thought that outward beauty was the only factor to become a great person. Turning on TV we can see many advertisements, most of which seem to give us a feeling that physical attractiveness is the most important thing. C Research shows that forming connections with your coworkers is good for your career and your overall happiness. C They reject to put many efforts into it. D Are you a good judge of character? D. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 1-20: CABBA BCBCA BCCBB AACCB 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
