Yawning (打哈欠) is something we all do — maybe because we’re tired or we’re bored with the same old things. Sometimes, just seeing other people yawn can make us yawn, too.
Many of us think when we yawn, we open our mouths to take in more air, but in fact it looks like there is no clear biological reason.
According to BBC Bitesize, new research suggests it might be because yawning cools the brain down and keeps it from getting too hot. This might be why we’re more likely to yawn in warm temperatures.
It is clear that we yawn more when we’re very tired and ready for a little sleep, and we can’t decide ourselves when we do it — once we start, there’s no stopping! But it’s also true that yawning is a very contagious (具有传染性的) behavior.
John Drury, a researcher from Sussex University, told the BBC, “It’s something that you can’t stop. Dogs yawn when their owners yawn, and animals yawn to each other. It happens whether you want to or not.”
His research into this behavior found that it might have something to do with how close we are to someone. If we see a friend start yawning, we may do it, too.
38. When we are ________, we may want to yawn.
A. excited or tired B. sad or bored C. worried or sad D. bored or tired
39. According to BBC Bitesize, yawning to the brain might be like ________.
A. ice to hot water B. the sun to a flower
C. food to someone hungry D. a book to a student
40. The last three paragraphs tell us that ________.
A. yawning is not a contagious behavior B. being close to someone helps us stop yawning
C. yawning only happens among people D. we can’t decide ourselves when to yawn or not
41. Which is the best title for the passage?
A A Study about Yawning B. Yawning Is a Fun Thing
C. Why Do We Yawn? D. No Reason for Yawning

You are our good and powerful king,” I said. “Thank you,” the king said, but he looked annoyed. “People always say things like that to me, but I don’t like it!” After breakfast, the king went to get dressed. I put his silk clothes, cloak and crown on his bed. “I just want to wear comfortable trousers, a shirt and shoes”. He said in a loud, angry voice. I rushed in with the clothes he wanted. “I’m so sorry, your majesty. You are our good and powerful king.” “Why does everyone always, always say “yes” to me?” “Because you’re the king, your majesty.” I replied. Suddenly, he said, “Everyone goes to the beach with me. Bring my throne (宝座)”.
Soon everyone was at the beach. “So I am a powerful king. Everyone has to obey (听从) me.” said the king. “Does the sea have to obey me?” he asked. “Of course”, we replied. He sat down on his throne at the edge of the water and shouted to the sea, “I am your powerful king! You must obey me. ▲ ”

A. yawning is not a contagious behavior B. being close to someone helps us stop yawning
C. yawning only happens among people D. we can’t decide ourselves when to yawn or not
41. Which is the best title for the passage?
