一、阅读短文, 选择正确答案
The Dead Sea
At 430 meters below sea level, the Dead Sea is Earth's lowest point on land.It is popular for its wonderful buoyancy(浮力). The high salt content—— more than34 percent— makes swimming more like floating.
Now the Dead Sea is actually dying. People are using water from the JordanRiver, which takes water away from the Dead Sea. Since 1930, its surface area has reduced by almost 40 percent.
Venice, Italy
With waterways instead of streets, this“Floating City” has attracted visitors for centuries. But no visit to Venice is complete without a ride in one of its famous gondolas, human-powered water taxis. Water creates Venice. But water will also kill the city.
Built on soft earth, Venice has slowly been sinking(下沉) for centuries. Now,with rising sea levels caused by human activities, it's sinking faster. According to US-based magazineArchitectural Digest, the city may disappear in the next 100 years. Better book your gondola soon!
Great Barrier Reef, Australia
Covering more than 2,300 kilometers of Australia's northeast coast, GreatBarrier Reef is the world's largest reef ecosystem, and an ideal place for scuba divers(水肺潜水者). Thousands of colorful coral(珊瑚) and fish make homes in the blue sea water. It's like a big underwater party!
Sadly, the party might be over soon. The reef is dying. Human activities are changing the weather. Warming ocean water kills the coral, and this causes problems up the food chain. The New York Times reported that large parts are already dead, and the reef system might be gone by 2030.

三、阅读短文,回答问题(答案不超过5个单词)
We use both words and body language to express our thoughts and opinions. We can learn about what a person is thinking by watching his or her body language. Words are important but the way a person stands or moves his or her hands can also give us information about his or her feelings. Aperson frowns(皱眉) when he is angry or in trouble. Parents pat their child's head to show their love. Some players like to throw their arms forward, as if they are flying after they score. You can see body language here and there. Body language doesn't use words. It is communication with the movement or position of your body. A hand gesture, a big smile, a shaking leg— these are all examples of body language. According to a research made by American scientist Edward T. Hall, in a conversation between two people, 65 percent of communication is body language. For example,a friend asks you to go on a picnic with him; you give him an“OK” gesture to say, “Yes, sounds good!” Sometimes, your words say one thing but your body language says another. You may touch your face unconsciously(无意识地) while telling a lie.
In different cultures, the same body language may mean different things. In the US, eye contact during a conversation shows you are interested in what the other person is saying. But in some Asian countries, it is rude to look straight at a person when you are talking to him or her. People in some countries use different body language to show the same meaning. In France, people kiss cheeks to say hello. The Japanese prefer to bow when greeting.
Perhaps the best example of commonly understood body language is the smile. A smile can open doors and tear down walls. It can be used to express almost any feeling. We can use a smile to ask for help or to start a conversation. We can smile at ourselves in the mirror to make ourselves feel happier and stronger. And if we are feeling down or lonely, there is nothing better than to see the smiling face of a good friend.
1 How do we express our thoughts and opinions?
2. What body language do parents use to show their love to their children?
3. What does giving an“OK” gesture mean?
4. Does the same body language mean the same thing in different cultures?
5. What is the most common and useful body language all over the world?
