Jameson Lobb, a 24-year-old investment banker from Toronto, had just started his new job on Wall Street. He was sharing a New York City apartment with his college friend, Raphael Jafri, an artificial intelligence engineer. One lunchtime, while working out on Pier (水上码头) 15, overlooking the East River, Lobb suddenly froze. “Someone’ s in the water,” he said. Without hesitation, he climbed over the rail and jumped into the cold, polluted river, still wearing his shoes.
Jafri didn’t see the victim but trusted Lobb’s instincts. “Maybe he saw someone in trouble,” he thought. “Or maybe he needs my help.” Without delay, Jafri kicked off his shoes and dove in after his friend.
Lobb reached the unconscious man first. He was middle-aged, well-dressed, and weighed about 200 pounds. The man was sinking fast, already three feet below the surface. Lobb dove down, grabbed him, and kicked upward until they both resurfaced. By then, Jafri had arrived. Together, they floated the man on his back, with Jafri supporting his shoulders and Lobb holding his hips and knees. The water was swirling (旋动), and their muscles burned as they struggled to pull the heavy, lifeless body toward the pier.
The man’s skin was blue, and he wasn’t breathing. When they finally reached Pier 15, they faced another challenge: how to get out. The pier’s deck was 10 feet above them, and the water’s surface was covered in sharp shellfish. Jafri, barefoot, couldn’t climb without injuring himself.
Suddenly, the man stirred (微动), breathing again. In his confusion, he lashed out, hitting Jafri in the face before slipping back into unconsciousness. The two friends, exhausted and struggling, now had to find a way to save themselves and the man they had risked everything to rescue.

第一段续写
On the pier, a crowd had gathered in an instant. Some onlookers were screaming words of encouragement, their voices hoarse with anxiety. A young woman, her hands shaking, quickly dialed the Coast Guard. Meanwhile, an older man, with a determined look on his face, rushed to the edge of the pier and threw a long, sturdy rope down towards Lobb and Jafri. The rope unfurled in the air, like a lifeline sent from above. Lobb, his arms trembling from exhaustion, grabbed the rope with his numb hands. He and Jafri, gritting their teeth, managed to loop it around the unconscious man. The people on the pier pulled with all their might, their muscles straining. With each tug, the man in the water edged closer to safety. Cheers erupted when he was finally pulled onto the pier. But Lobb and Jafri, their bodies shivering from the cold and their energy completely drained, were still trapped in the freezing water, their eyes filled with a mix of relief for the man and worry for themselves.
第二段续写
Lobb and Jafri remained in the water a few minutes more, until they were rescued by the Coast Guard. The sound of the Coast Guard boat cutting through the water was like music to their ears. As the boat approached, the crew members, with practiced precision, threw life jackets towards them. Lobb and Jafri, barely able to move, fumbled to put them on. Then, strong hands reached down and pulled them aboard. Once on the boat, they collapsed onto the deck, their faces pale. The crew wrapped them in thick, warm blankets. They learned that the rescued man had been rushed to the hospital and was in stable condition. News of their heroic act spread like wildfire. The community hailed them as heroes, and their story was featured in local newspapers. Their selfless act not only saved a life but also became a beacon of hope, inspiring others to be brave and kind in the face of adversity.

He and Jafri, using their last reserves of strength, carefully wrapped the rope around the unconscious man. The people on the pier, united in their efforts, began to pull. Their feet planted firmly on the ground, they strained and heaved. With every pull, the man in the water came closer to the pier. Finally, he was safely on the pier.
