Dear Jenny,
I’m happy that we are going to have a garden party for traditional festivals. I highly recommend the Mid-Autumn Festival. It falls on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese lunar calendar. This festival is significant as it represents family reunion.
For the garden party, we could have two activities. First, it’s a great idea to have a mooncake making activity from which we can learn to make traditional mooncakes and understand the craftsmanship behind them. Second, we can also set up an area for moon-watching. Teachers and students can sit and admire the beautiful full moon while sharing stories and poems about it. Admiring the moon is meaningful as it symbolizes togetherness. It makes people think of their loved ones far away and express their wishes for them.
Hope my suggestions can be accepted.
Yours,
Li Hua

Romeo had been in a good mood all morning. He’d had a dream that he was about to receive some good news. He was lighthearted and he walked through the streets of Mantua feeling that his feet weren’t touching the ground.
His dream was that Juliet had found him dead. And although it was a strange dream that allowed a dead man to think and feel, she had brought him back to life with her kisses and made him as happy as a king. He smiled as he walked. It just showed how wonderful the real thing was if even dreams about love could make you feel so good. Wasn’t that his man, Balthasar, coming down the street? It was. It must be good news from Verona.
“Balthasar,” he said. “Have you got a letter from the Friar? How’s my wife? And my father? Is he alright?” Romeo did a little jig, dancing round his servant. “How’s my Juliet? I’m asking that because if she’s well then everything is wonderful.”
Balthasar said nothing. He stared at the ground, avoiding Romeo’s eyes. Romeo stopped his dancing. Balthasar was crying.
“She’s well. So nothing can be wrong,” said Balthasar. He turned his back on Romeo and blurted, “Her body’s sleeping in Capulet’s tomb (坟墓) and her soul’s among the angels.”
Romeo felt cold, even in that terrible heat. His expression doubted his servant’s statement. “I watched them putting her in the tomb their family vault,” said Balthasar, “and then came straight to you.” He saw the pain in Romeo’s face and wished he could think of some way of comforting him.
“It can’t be!” said Romeo at last. He turned away. “The stars are against us. But I won’t give into them!” He turned back to Balthasar. “Go and get me some paper and ink and hire us some horses.”
“I beg of you, sir,” said Balthasar, “be careful. You’re sad and I’m worried that something bad is going to happen.” “You’re wrong,” said Romeo. “Just do as I tell you. Haven’t you got a letter from the Friar?”
“No.”
“It doesn’t matter. Go and get the horses. I’ll see you later.”

Do you have a good memory? Can you remember English words you learned last week? Or have you forgotten the deadline of your project? Many of us often say “My brain doesn’t work well”. Maybe you can try a new way of training your brain—to learn with your team members.
“Teamwork makes our brains work better,” the memory expert, Jonathan Hancock said. “Being part of a team has many benefits for remembering things.” In his memory research, he finds that the participants (参与者) in a team always behave better than people who work independently. That’s because they have less personal pressure and more time to think over each question.
But there’s even more going on according to Australian researchers who’ve shown that our brains get a natural improvement when they’ve got company (陪伴). Their study suggests two reasons. First, when we’re with people who are trying to remember something. We can easily feel that tip-of-the-tongue feeling so we also want to join in to challenge ourselves. Second, after knowing others can remember things well, we can be encouraged to make it too.
To make better use of the power of team learning, you can use the contagion (传染效应) to awaken and improve memories. For example, go over new words together with your partners. Believe it or not, you’ll be amazed at your magic memory. Moreover, you can share the duty together. If you have many tasks to remember, ask your partner to remember the date of the school play while you’re in charge of remembering the project deadline. In this way, both of you will remember things more easily and deeply.
9.How does Jonathan Hancock support his opinion in Paragraph 2?
A.By doing research. B.By giving an example.
C.By providing a form. D.By listing numbers.
10.Which of the following situations matches “tip-of-the-tongue feeling” best?
A.You bite your tongue and lose words.
B.You lose the control of the tip of your tongue.
C.You come up with an answer and express it quickly.
D.You think of something but can’t find a word to express it well.
11.What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.Ideas of learning new English words. B.Ways of sharing memory duty with partners.
C.Advice on improving memories by teamwork. D.Research about remembering the project deadline.
12.What is the writer’s purpose in writing the passage?
A.To introduce the results of some memory research.
B.To encourage people to use their brains more often.
C.To invite readers to take part in their research to train brains.
D.To ask readers to make use of teamwork to improve memories.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the ability of a computer program or a machine to think and learn. It is also a field of study that tries to make computers “smart”. John McCarthy, a scientist, came up with the name “artificial intelligence” in 1955. Many things such as learning and problem solving can be done by computers, though not in the same way as we do.
An unusual goal of AI research is to create computer programs that can learn, solve problems, and think logically (逻辑地). At present we use the term AI for successfully understanding human speech, recognizing human faces, operating self-driving cars and competing in some game systems like Chess and AlphGo.
Math is the basic language of AI. If we raise the standard in the learning of math, our students will be more likely to become successful AI designers in the future. We not only want bright students, but also need to attract average students and give them the math skills which are needed to change them into AI designers. Besides, a good knowledge of computer science is also necessary for AI designing.
Some people also consider AI a danger to humans if it develops too quickly. Professor Stephen Hawking, a well-known British scientist, was not for this kind of technology. However, there are also scientists hope to create creative and emotional AI which can possibly understand human feelings or create art. Many ways and tools have been tried to discover this fascinating field.
AI is like a powerful tool that can be both helpful and risky. It can make our lives easier and solve big problems, but we also need to be careful with how we use it.
13.What do we know about Al from Paragraph 1?
A.All problems can be solved by AI. B.Machines with AI can think and learn.
C.AI works in the same way as humans. D.AI has been around for less than 60 years.
14.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 4 refer to?

People always say the music from their younger 31 (year) is the best compared to other times. So far, scientists 32 (do) some researches. They have found this may be due to something that is called the “memory bump (记忆隆起)”.
According to the BBC, the memory bump means 33 our memories from ages 10 to 30 are particularly strong. This period 34 (heavy) influences our favorite books, films, and especially music. This is because musical memories are stored in a “safe” area of the brain, which is more protected against age-related conditions. 35 a result, the music we listen to during these years is often remembered more fondly (充满感情地) than music from other periods in our lives.
More importantly, “music is episodic (片段的),” Professor Robert Cutietta at the University of Southern California told CNN. “If you look at 36 artwork or something, you can look at it and leave. Music is over time.”
Music from our younger years 37 (create) strong feelings, mixing happy and sad feelings when we listen to it. When the songs are related to your experience, memories of those experiences will come back as 38 listen to the songs again.
Sometimes, with a change in experience, the 39 (sad) you felt before when listening to a song can later turn into joy. This can explain why listening to something from a harder time in your 40 (young) life can bring a sense of relief now.

四、阅读与表达(共4小题,41~43小题 每小题2分,44小题4分;满分10分)
阅读短文,然后根据内容回答问题。
Imagine you are walking through deep snow. As you walk, you leave footprints where you’ve been. That’s what happens when using technology, such as computers, mobile phones and tablets. You leave your digital footprint and it will never disappear.
Here are reasons why your digital footprint should matter to you.
How people see you
Of course, you have nothing to hide, but if people get information about you, they might judge you from the information you have left online. For example, you make a bad joke online. Years later, it's found by the university you are applying to, and they don’t think it’s funny. Maybe they decide you are not the “right” kind of person for them.
Your private information
Not everything can be shared with everyone. For example, you might share your school reports with your parents, but keep them secret to your e-friends. If you share them on the Internet, they will not be a secret anymore. Therefore, to protect your privacy (隐私), remember to put out less information online.
Keeping your money safe
There are plenty of people looking at information about you, and some of them want to steal from you. So you shouldn’t write bank details, card numbers or passwords in emails or text messages.
Overall, the message is: No one can go online without leaving his digital footprint—but with care, you can control it.
41. When do you leave digital footprint?
___________________________________________________________________________________________
42. How many reasons are mentioned in the passage?
___________________________________________________________________________________________
43. What shouldn’t be written in emails or text messages?

【答案】One possible version:
Dear Jenny,
I’m happy that we are going to have a garden party for traditional festivals.
