As an amateur radio operator, Moffatt has connected with people worldwide. “By sending signals to satellites, I’ve talked to people from the Arctic to the Antarctic,” Moffatt said. And on Wednesday at the Ontario Science Centre, the 96-year-old got to go even further. An amateur radio connection allowed the senior and students to speak with Commander Luca aboard the International Space Station. By connection, Moffatt told the astronaut she was very excited, admitting that this was a bucket-list wish she had for many years. Then Moffatt asked if Luca could keep the space station clean and tidy, adding that as a “mature woman” she had done lots of cleaning in her life. When Moffatt was a young girl, she moved to Toronto with her family, hoping there would be chances for a girl interested in science. She desperately wanted to go to university, but moving house placed a significant burden on their finances. Not discouraged, she took a course in amateur radio, then a popular technology, and shortly after she got her license. After retiring, Moffatt started volunteering at the Ontario Science Centre. Armed with her radio license, she helped set up the centre’s first radio shack The idea to connect with the International Space Station came just after Moffatt’s 36th birthday. Finally after 60 years with the help of amateur radio operators and NASA, Moffatt made her connection. While the connection wasn’t very clear, she was S moved to tears, telling those who had gathered to watch that it was the “highlight” of her life. Moffatt plans to keep volunteering at the centre, introducing younger people to the older form of technology, and to keep speaking to anyone who can pick up her signal. “It’s a technology even older than me and I love amateur radio,” Moffatt added. 4. What can we learn about Moffatt from the first two paragraphs? A. She attempted an Internet talk. B. She was an environmentalist. C. She was into space exploration. D. She achieved a lifetime goal. 5. Why did Moffatt and her family move to Toronto? A. To pursue a radio license. B. To seek better opportunities. C. To attend a radio school. D. To survive financial troubles. 6. What does Moffatt plan to do further? A. Promote radio communication. B. Continue her passion for radio. C. Start her radio shack business. D. Acquire new scientific ability. 7. Which of the following can best describe Moffatt? A. Creative and ambitious. B. Out-spoken and energetic. C. Passionate and determined. D. Broad-minded and generous. C “Europe in a Second:10 Countries, 6 Days, Unforgettable Memories!” “Dense &Rich: 6 Days, 10 European Countries — A Trip of Culture & Adventure!” Are you still drown to the advertisements? Actually, the days of busy tours or hurried must-do vacations have given way to vacations where resting and recharging is the key. And for many, that means getting a good night’s sleep. A recent survey of 1,095 Americans, conducted by a team at Harvard’s Division of Sleep Medicine, found that over 94 percent of the participants want to participate in slow travel in the future and choose quiet and rest instead of adventure, “Gone are the days of traveling and coming home exhausted,” said Rebecca Robbins, the lead sleep scientist in the team, “The idea that travel could restore you-to learn things and experience new things and also physically and mentally get the rest you need to power your trip and to allow you to return home rested-is really exciting.” A good night’s sleep is something that eludes many people, according to the survey. More than one in three Americans lack enough sleep, not getting the minimum of seven hours of sleep that is recommended by the Center for Disease Control. Poor sleep can cause a host of physical and mental health issues. It’s no wonder that people want to destress and catch some ZZs while on vacation. Hotel guests are increasingly valuing sleeping when they’re traveling and getting a good night’s rest on the road. While many hotels have provided sleep-aid items like masks, light blocking shades and comfortable pillows, sleep tourism is taking it many steps further. Several hotels in the Hilton chain now offer “power down” services including temperature-adjusting mattresses (床垫) and soft light settings. Travelers engaging in sleep tourism are taking that extra step and seeking out unique experiences and environments that help them achieve their sleep and relaxation goals. Maybe a sleep vacation is just what doctors have ordered, especially if travelers use the sleep techniques they have learned when they return home. 8. What does the author think of the European trips mentioned in Paragraph 1? A. Memorable. B. Rushed. C. Costly. D. Refreshing. 9. Which of the following may Rebecca agree with? A. Resting in a hotel for several days. B. Using the sleep aids in a busy tour. C. Having a slow-paced tour in a place. D. Making new adventures in the wild. 10. What does the underlined word “eludes” mean in Paragraph 3? A. Annoys. B. Escapes. C. Confuses. D. Hits. 11. Why is Hilton mentioned in Paragraph 4? A. To evidence a point. B. To advertise a hotel. C. To raise a suggestion. D. To spread a strategy. D Have you ever felt so convinced you were right about something, that the thought of anyone challenging your belief could only mean they didn’t know as much as you did? If you have, you’re not alone. Here’s why: you don’t have all the facts, but believe that you do. So you may stand your ground during heated debates, according to a new study. “Most people on average do this,” said the study co-author Angus Fletcher, a professor at Ohio State University. In the experiment, 1,261 adults were divided into three groups to read an article about a fictional school that lacked water. One group read an article that only gave reasons why the school should merge (合并) with another that had water; the second group’s article only gave reasons for staying separate and hoping for other solutions. The third control group read all the arguments for the schools merging and for staying separate. Fletcher’s findings showed that the two groups who received only half the facts-either just the pro-merging or the just the anti-merging arguments- -believed they had enough information to make a good decision. What Fletcher didn’t expect the most was that once everyone was given the other half of the argument, their opinions shifted to be equal to the control group who had both sets of facts from the beginning. Therefore, curiosity about all sides of an argument can help resolve conflicts naturally. “If you feel yourself being annoyed by someone, lake a step back and say, how much do I really know about this situation?” Fletcher says. What led to greater understanding between the different groups in the study was access to all of the facts. Once each group independently reviewed the new information, they were able to come to a general agreement more easily. He recommends that if you find yourself conflicting with a loved one or coworker, to pause and get curious about why they are thinking the way they are. “The odds are good that they’ll reveal something that would shift your perspective,” Fletcher says. 12 What do we tend to do during a heated debate according to the text? A. Stick to our opinion. B. Express our feelings. C. Hold back our emotions. D. Bring forth our thinking. 13. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about concerning the experiment? A. Its process. B. Its outcome. C. Its theory. D. Its purpose. 14. What surprised Fletcher about the findings? A. Perspectives of control groups remained unchanged. B. Participants sought the opposite groups’ information. C. All three groups were good at making wise decisions. D. Views of half-informed groups changed with full facts. 15. What can be a suitable title of the text? A. Argument: to be resolved or not B. Knowledge: the more, the better C. Agreement: to convince all sides D. I longed to achieve something to prove to myself that I am a capable person. So, I took part in various competitions, hoping to experience the thrill of victory and boost my self-esteem (自尊). Unfortunately, I never succeeded in any of these competitions. This constant failure led me to feel discouraged. Feeling upset, I wanted to give up trying altogether. When my father noticed my disheartened spirit, he decided to step in and help me. One sunny Saturday afternoon, he took me to a carnival held by our local community center. Every year, our town eagerly awaited this carnival, which was organized to raise funds for local charities. The carnival featured a wide range of delicious foods, exciting rides, games, music, and other attractions. My dad led me to a colorful tent at the carnival. Inside, a game was set up specifically for children. The game involved throwing rings onto bottles to win prizes. An elderly man with a kind face was in charge of the game. It was still early, and no other kids were around yet. My dad pushed me forward and encouraged me to give it a try. I approached the old man nervously and asked, “How do I play this game?” He smiled warmly and explained, “It’s simple and fun. Just throw these rings and try to get them over the bottles. If you manage to get even one ring on a bottle, you’ll win a prize of your choice.” I then asked about the cost of the game. The old man replied, “It’s five dollars for ten rings.” My dad handed me the money quickly, and I passed it to the old man, who then gave me a bundle of ten rings. I took a deep breath and threw out my first ring. It missed the bottle completely, landing on the ground with a soft sound. Ring after ring, I missed each attempt. Sweat began to form on my forehead, and my hands trembled. With only one ring left, I was very nervous. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I held the prize tightly in my hands, with a huge smile spreading across my face. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 听力1—5 ABBAA 6—10 BCABC 11—15 CCBAA 16—20 ACBCC 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2024-2025年度高二年级三月份模块检测 英语试题 (本试卷满分150分,考试时间120分钟) 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 1. 4. D 5. B 6. B 7. A Resting in a hotel for several days. B 9. C 10. B 11. 可知,6天可以在10个国家旅行,结合“Actually, the days of busy tours or hurried must-do vacations have given way to vacations where resting and recharging is the key.(实际上,忙碌旅游或匆忙假期的日子已经让位于以休息和充电为主的假期。)” 根据第二段中的“A recent survey of 1,095 Americans, conducted by a team at Harvard’s Division of Sleep Medicine, found that over 94 percent of the participants want to participate in slow travel in the future and choose quiet and rest instead of adventure (哈佛大学睡眠医学部团队进行的一项针对1,095名美国人的调查显示,超过94%的参与者希望未来参与慢旅行,并选择安静与休息而非冒险。)”可知,研究发现,人们希望未来参与慢旅行,并选择安静与休息,结合Rebecca Robbins所说的“The idea that travel could restore you-to learn things and experience new things and also physically and mentally get the rest you need to power your trip and to allow you to return home rested-is really exciting.(旅行可以让你恢复活力——学习新事物、体验新东西,并在身体上和精神上得到你需要的休息来为你的旅程提供动力,使你回家时感到放松,这一想法真的令人兴奋。)” 根据划线单词后的“More than one in three Americans lack enough sleep, not getting the minimum of seven hours of sleep that is recommended by the Center for Disease Control.(超过三分之一的美国人缺乏足够的睡眠,没有达到疾病控制中心推荐的至少七小时睡眠。)” 根据倒数第二段中的“While many hotels have provided sleep-aid items like masks, light blocking shades and comfortable pillows, sleep tourism is taking it many steps further.(虽然许多酒店提供了如眼罩、遮光窗帘和舒适枕头等助眠物品,但睡眠旅游正在将此推向更远。)” 故选A项。 D Have you ever felt so convinced you were right about something, that the thought of anyone challenging your belief could only mean they didn’t know as much as you did? 12. What do we tend to do during a heated debate according to the text? Curiosity: the key to “no conflict” 【答案】12. A 13. A 14. D 15. 根据第二段中的“Here’s why: you don’t have all the facts, but believe that you do. So you may stand your ground during heated debates, according to a new study.(原因如下:你并没有掌握所有的事实,但你认为自己掌握了。因此,根据一项新的研究,在激烈的辩论中你可能会坚守自己的立场。)”可知,在激烈的辩论中,即使没有掌握全部事实,人们也倾向于坚持自己的观点。故选A项。 根据第三段中的“In the experiment, 1,261 adults were divided into three groups to read an article about a fictional school that lacked water.(在实验中,1261名成年人被分成三组,阅读一篇关于一所缺水的虚构学校的文章。)” 故选A项。 根据第四段中的“What Fletcher didn’t expect the most was that once everyone was given the other half of the argument, their opinions shifted to be equal to the control group who had both sets of facts from the beginning.(Fletcher最没想到的是,一旦每个人都获得了另一半的论点,他们的观点就会发生变化,与从一开始就拥有全部事实的控制组持平。)” 以及尾段中的“He recommends that if you find yourself conflicting with a loved one or coworker, to pause and get curious about why they are thinking the way they are.(他建议,如果你发现自己与亲人或同事发生冲突时,暂停一下并对他们的想法产生好奇。)” Wisdom is not just a good quality. ___16___ When things get really wild out there, you can always rely on your wisdom to make the best choices. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文: With only one ring left, I was very nervous. Sensing my anxiety, my dad came over and patted my shoulder. “It’s okay, son,” he said gently. “Take a deep breath, focus on your aim, and don’t rush.” He guided me on how to adjust my stance and aim more carefully. Encouraged, I took a deep breath and threw the final ring. To my astonishment, it landed perfectly around the bottle. The old man clapped and handed me a small, colorful prize. I held the prize tightly in my hands, with a huge smile spreading across my face. At that moment, I realized that with perseverance and patience, I could overcome my self-doubt. This experience at the carnival became a turning point, teaching me that I was capable after all, and I was no longer the boy who felt inferior. It was not just about winning a small prize; it was a life-changing moment. Since then, every challenge I encounter becomes an opportunity to prove myself. I approach them with courage and confidence, knowing that I have the power to overcome obstacles, just like I did with that final ring. 词汇激活 行为类 ①专注于:focus on/concentrate on ②克服:overcome/get over ③遇到:encounter/come across 情绪类 ①担忧:anxiety/worry ②惊讶:astonishment/surprise 【点睛】【高分句型1】This experience at the carnival became a turning point, teaching me that I was capable after all, and I was no longer the boy who felt inferior.(运用that引导的宾语从句和who引导的定语从句) 【高分句型2】Since then, every challenge I encounter becomes an opportunity to prove myself.(运用了省略关系代词的定语从句) 听力1—5 ABBAA 6—10 BCABC 11—15 CCBAA 16—20 ACBCC 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
