By cleanly stomping back-to-back 1800 tricks, the teenager has landed the biggest prize so far in his young career. The notable achievement realized his childhood dream to reach the peak of the sport, which he began to learn at the age of 4. Now with two shinning medals hung around his neck, the 17-year-old described his superb Olympic debut (首次亮相) as an unbelievable experience that has made all his sacrifices worthwhile. “This feels so surreal that I’ve finally accomplished what I’ve dreamed of since I was little,” said Su. Over the past four years, Su has combined his talent with hard work to produce one of the swiftest rises to prominence (杰出) the sport has ever seen. When the Shougang Big Air venue hosted its first international event, Su was an unknown qualifier, who didn’t even make the final runs. Just over two years later, Su is the name on everyone’s lips at the venue’s Olympic debut, drawing the whole nation’s attention to the sport he loves. “The biggest motivation for me is my love for snowboarding,” Su said, when asked about the secret to his success. “In snowboarding, I feel like I can show my own style and creativity. Every time I ride my board, it’s always a joyful moment. I hope through my experience, I can inspire more young people to get interested in the sport.” Su, a former child actor who featured in action movies, said the Olympic gold will encourage him to seek for more breakthroughs, even beyond his athletic career. “I enjoy snowboarding just as much as I enjoy acting,” said Su, who turns 18 on Friday. “I think I still have a lot of possibilities to explore in my future career either in snowboarding or in acting. But now I just want to enjoy the moment and celebrate it as the best possible birthday gift.” 24. What does the underlined word “landed” in paragraph 1 mean? A. Reached. B. Gained. C. Created. D. Which of the following words can best describe Su? A. Talented and thoughtful. B. Hard-working and devoted. C. Creative and kind-hearted. D. Generous and productive. C An artificial intelligence can decode (解码) words and sentences from brain activity with surprising accuracy. Using only a few seconds of brain activity data, the AI guesses what a person has heard. It lists the correct answer in its top 10 possibilities, researchers found in a primary study. Developed by the parent company of Facebook, Meta, the AI could eventually be used to help thousands of people around the world who are unable to communicate through speech, typing or gestures. Most existing technologies to help such patients communicate require risky brain surgeries to put in electrodes (电极). This new approach “could provide a possible path to help patients with communication problems, avoiding the use of surgeries,” says neuroscientist Jean-Rémi King, a Meta AI researcher. King and his colleagues trained a computational tool, also known as a language model, to detect words and sentences on 56,000 hours of speech recordings from 53 languages. The team applied an AI with this language model to databases from four institutions that included brain activity from 169 volunteers. In these databases, participants listened to various stories and sentences, while the people’s brains were scanned by magnetoencephalography (MEG) (脑磁图). Then with the help of a computational method that helps account for physical differences among actual brains, the team tried to decode what participants had heard using just three seconds of brain activity data from each person. The team instructed the AI to match up the speech sounds from the story recordings with patterns of brain activity that the AI computed as corresponding to what people were hearing. It then made predictions about what the person might have been hearing during that short time, given more than 1,000 possibilities. Using MEG, the correct answer was in the AI’s top 10 guesses, the researchers found. “The new study is the decoding of speech recognition, not production,” King agrees. “Though speech production is the final goal, for now, we're quite a long way away.” 28. Whom might the AI benefit? A. People unable to read. B. People who are unconscious. C. People who can't move around. D. People unable to communicate normally. 29. What is the main idea of paragraph 4? A. The purpose of the AI. B. The significance of the AI. C. The advantage of the AI. D. The working principle of the AI. 30. What does the AI require to make its prediction? A. Speech production. B. Top ten guesses. C. Patterns of brain activity. D. Disabled volunteers. 31. What is the best title for the text? A. A New Way to Decode Speech B. The Employment of MEG Technology C. An Advance in Artificial Intelligence D. A Solution to Communication Problems D Everyone knows this: Slowly turn up the heat on a frog in a pot of water, and the frog won’t hop out. Unaware of the slight increase in heat, it will stay put until — well, until it dies. When it comes to the effect of rising global temperatures on amphibians (两栖动物), the frog-boiling fable is more than just a metaphor (隐喻). Climate change is becoming one of the biggest threats to frogs and other amphibians, according to a major study published Wednesday in the journal Nature. Between 2004 and 2022, rising temperatures became the primary reason why more than 100 amphibian species were slipping toward extinction. The spread of disease among frogs and the destruction of their habitats have long been recognized as reasons why many amphibians are decreasing. But this new study establishes climate change as a major risk for amphibians around the world, too. The soft-skinned animals lack the fur and feathers to help adjust their temperature in this hotter and more drought-stricken world. Less attention is paid to frogs and other amphibians compared to more well-known groups like birds. But losing amphibians would be disastrous because they often act as a key link in the food web of ecosystems, wolfing insects down and, in turn, being eaten by larger predators (捕食者).“Without those amphibians to fill that role, we will see the breakdown of this food web,” said Neam, who works for an Austin-based environmental group. Luckily, habitat protection and other conservation measures have been taken to help recover more than five dozen amphibians from Costa Rica to Malaysia. “It’s not all bad news,” said Jennifer Luedtke, an amphibian group leader of the International Union for Conservation of Nature. “But we really must build on this improvement and significantly increase investment in amphibian conservation.” 32. How is the topic introduced? A. By listing facts. B. By explaining ideas. C. By sharing a story. D. By raising a question. 33. What is the main reason for the decrease of amphibians according to the new study? A. The spread of disease. B. The loss of habitats. C. The rise of temperature. D. The lack of feathers. 34. What will happen if the number of amphibians decreases? A. The food chain will be destroyed. B. Wolves will depend more on insects. C. Predators will be the key role of the web. D. The ecosystem will become more diverse. 35. How does Luedtke feel about the future of amphibians? A. Worried. B. Hopeful. C. Uncertain. D. Curious. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 A majority of the people do not read the classics. Their reasons begin with the language being too difficult and end with the storyline too distant to the present context. Love for classics is obviously not at first sight. It is a gradual affair. We begin as acquaintances (泛泛之交) and eventually become close friends with private jokes between us. ___36___ Don’t be afraid to be confused. We get it: It’s hard to power through confusion. Your goal as a reader is to discover what aspects and insights are meaningful to you. Enjoy the process. ____40____ Even if your interpretation of the work isn’t quite perfect, it is still valuable! A. Allow the book to grow with you. B. So how does one approach a classic? C. It has some form of historical influence. D. Before you turn to page one, do some digging. E.
