Among those facing the risky situation was 18-year-old Colleen Knull,a volunteer firefighter working a summer job as part of the kitchen staff in Jasper Lodge. Knull has less than one year of experience as a firefighter and was off duty on that July 22 night, but she did not hesitate to take the lead after receiving the order to evacuate (撤离). The volunteer firefighter quickly knocked on the cabin doors at the lodge, informing the guests who were asleep of the danger. Then she searched for other campers in the area. She led a total of 16 people through a difficult four-hour hike in the dark, guiding them all to safety. Rebecca Tocher, one of the evacuees, recalled how Knull took charge and made sure that everyone was working together during the tense and frightening hike. Tocher said, “There was intense smoke, my eyes were burning, and there was ash falling constantly. Despite the challenges, she remained calm and led us the whole way.” Fortunately, Knull was familiar with the trail. “I had previously ridden up on a horse up to that lodge on that same trail. And throughout the way, my employer and I had cut logs uphill,” she recalls. “So, I knew there would be 67 cut logs on the way down.” In addition to counting the logs, Knull also relied on horse tracks and horse waste to guide the group safely through the dark to where her truck was parked. Knull managed to pack all 16 people inside and drove them to safety without any serious injuries. Knull, who is training to become a full-time firefighter, demonstrates that bravery and resourcefulness are essential in any dangerous situation. But what truly sets her apart is her sympathy for others. She explains, “I do it because, at the end of the day, I know I’d want to go home — but I’d also want someone there to help.” 24. What did Knull initially do after receiving the evacuation order? A. She searched campsites nearby. B. She messaged other firefighters. C. She evacuated her kitchen workers. D. She awakened the guests at the lodge. 25. What impressed Tocher most about Knull? A. Her good physical quality. B. Her remarkable leadership. C. Her patience with the hikers. D. Her resistance to heavy smoke. 26. How did Knull walk the 16 people downhill? A. By applying her tracking skills. B. By clearing the path of cut logs. C. By getting a horse leading the way. D. By contacting rescue crew for help. 27. Why does the author cite Knull’s words in the last paragraph? A. To praise her ambition. B. To express her frankness. C. To show her daily routine. D. To highlight her kindness. C Before wolves were hunted to extinction in the UK around 1760, they wandered large areas, typically covering 20 km or more each night. As they did so, they carried wildflower and grass seeds in their fur, often depositing them in new places and helping establish new colonies (群落) of plants. Now, the Railway Land Wildlife Trust has been using local dogs with seed-filled backpacks to help reseed the urban nature reserve. Dogs have a natural tendency to walk into areas where people cannot go. Not only that, but it seems like dogs can just cover more ground, speeding up the process of seed distribution. According to project manager Dylan Walker, anyone with a dog walking by the area can participate. All they have to do is ask a staff member at the reserve for one of the dog backpacks. Each backpack is filled with seeds mixed with sand, and has holes to help the seeds and sand easily fall out of the bag. The project in the town of Lewes builds upon a previous project in Chile in 2019 in which two women, helped by their three dogs, planted seeds in areas across the country that had been destroyed by wildfires. Walker saw an opportunity to follow in their footsteps after observing that an area of the local reserve had become heavily damaged by constant footfall. While still in its early days, there is already seed germination (发芽) in some areas. Dylan Walker said, “This has been such a joyous experience. Local dog walkers have been so helpful in protecting and enhancing our nature reserve. Dog walkers are often criticized for walking in the country, so we’re so pleased to tell a story in which dogs and their owners are the stars!” 28. What is the author’s purpose in mentioning the wolves? A. To introduce the topic of the text. B. To make a comparison with dogs. C To demonstrate their positive side. D. To show regrets about their extinction. 29. Why are dogs chosen to take on the job instead of humans? A. They are easier to handle. B. They are more money-saving. C. They spread seeds more widely. D. They can carry heavier backpacks. 30. What is paragraph 4 mainly about? A. The Chilean way of stopping wildfires. B. The inspiration behind the new project. C. The effect of foot traffic on the reserve. D. The similarity between the two projects. 31. What can be inferred about the dog walkers’ attitude to the project? A. Doubtful. B. Indifferent. C. Supportive. D. Disapproving. D Sports, beyond entertainment, promote community and belonging, benefiting both individuals and society. Despite its recognized positive effects, finite evidence exists on the link between watching sports and well-being. To address this gap, a team of researchers from Japan, started three separate studies to understand the connection between sports viewing and well-being in the general population. To avoid biased (有偏见的) findings, their studies focused on both subjective and objective measures of well-being. In the first study, the researchers analyzed publicly available survey data from 20,000 Japanese residents and confirmed that positive well-being was associated with regular sports viewing. However, this study was unable to provide deeper insight into the relationship between sports consumption and well-being. The second study, aimed at investigating whether the connection between sports viewing and well-being varied depending on the type of sport observed, surveyed 208 participants online. The experiment exposed them to various sports videos, assessing their well-being both before and after viewing. The findings demonstrated that more popular sports, like baseball, made a more significant impact on enhancing well-being compared to less popular sports, such as golf. The most significant results came from the third study, in which neuroimaging (神经成像) techniques were used to analyze changes in the brain activity of 14 Japanese participants while they watched sports videos. The findings revealed that sports viewing activated brain reward circuits, which release feelings of happiness and pleasure. Interestingly, those who reported watching sports more frequently exhibited greater gray matter volume in regions associated with reward circuits, suggesting that regular sports viewing may gradually cause changes in brain structures that lead to a lasting boost in happiness. The researchers concluded that regularly watching sports, particularly popular sports, can serve as an effective way to enhance personal well-being. The study has far-reaching implications and theoretical contributions to sports management literature. Existing literature has primarily focused on sports fans; however, this study has taken into consideration a larger general population regardless of their relationship to sports consumption. This research can contribute significantly to sports management practices and policymaking for public health. 32. What does the underlined word “finite” in paragraph 1 mean? A Common. B. Uncertain. C. Limited. D. Proven. 33. What was the second study based on? A. Online surveys. B. Case research. C. Field interviews. D. Published data. 34. What can be learned about the third study? A. It sampled a minimum of sports fans. B. It provided the most objective evidence. C It focused on the impacts of live sports. D. It valued subjective measures of well-being. 35. What’s the best title for the text? A. Why Sports Viewing Should Be Promoted B. How Sports Events Contribute to Happiness C. What Restricts People’s Sports Consumption D. How Watching Sports Can Boost Well-Being 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Managing remote workers is more challenging than managing in-house workers. His parents wished to bring him up to some trade, but Michael’s heart was set upon being a sailor. His father had to find him a job in a ship about to sail for Morocco, in the north coast of Africa. The ship belonged to a dealer who used to take cloth to sell to the natives of that place. During the voyage, the dealer discovered that whatever Michael had to do, he did as well as he could, whether anyone was looking at him or not. “This is just the boy to be trusted,” thought the dealer, and Michael was soon raised to a higher place. One day the dealer fell sick. He could not go with his ship, which was loaded and ready to sail for Morocco. He thought Michael was the only person whom he could trust with his goods. So he sent for him and told him that he must take charge of it. It was a difficult task Michael had to face, but he did not shy away from it. The ship sailed with Michael in charge, and in due time he was arranging the cloth in the marketplace in Morocco. Now the city was ruled by a cruel governor called the Bey, who could do whatever he liked. On this very morning he came into the market, fixed on one piece of the cloth which Michael had for sale and asked the price. Michael told him. The Bey offered half the sum he named. “No,” said Michael, “My master expects that price, and I am only his servant. I have no power to take less.” The Bey’s face grew dark with anger, and the bystanders quaked, for they knew that if the young man opposed the wishes of the cruel governor, he would be put to death. “I will give you time till tomorrow to think about it,” cried the Bey, and he walked away. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 The next day the Bey appeared as before. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “You are a faithful fellow!” the Bey said smilingly. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2025年普通高等学校招生全国统一考试模拟试题 英语 本试题卷共8页。 6. Followed by some servants, the Bey came to Michael and again asked him the price of the cloth. Michael gave the same answer. “Take my life if you will,” added the brave Michael, “I would rather die as a loyal man than lose one penny of my master’s money.” Everybody expected to hear the order to kill him, but the order was not given. Instead, the Bey’s face suddenly changed. “You are a faithful fellow!” the Bey said smilingly. “How I wish I would have such a servant as you. I will have a suit of clothes made of the cloth in memory of your faithfulness.” With these words, the Bey threw a purse of gold upon the table, told his servants to take up the cloth, and went away. So have you changed the way you prepare meals? I'm constantly dreaming up new ways of using up the leftover food. I often pass on those recipes to my friends. Does your new lifestyle make things difficult for you when you are socializing? Yes, when I go to picnics, for example, the plates and balls tend to be single, use plastic. They would be thrown away after picnicking, but I would take along my own plate. I am not concerned that I might give others the strange impression. I heard you were recently interviewed on the radio. Yes, IT was at one fair I attended. What was great was that I could get my ideas across to a wider audience.
