Do you know how beautiful your school is? You can map all of your own school. It seems hard, but with a lot of planning, it can be very easy to draw out the places of your school!
Planning Your Map
Walking around your school and leaving notes of where things are, or even drawing a draft (草稿) can really help. While going around your school, make sure you don’t miss anything. You can do this by going over the buildings again. If you miss some parts, add it to your map!
Starting the Final Draft
Before everything else, you should draw the big parts first. For example, drawing the different grades of the school might be a good first step. After the big things, you should draw less important parts, such as school offices, the hall and special-use rooms. Adding details (细节) is an important part of making a map. Now you should draw the doors if you haven’t already, draw windows, create labels (标签), and draw any other small things. Make sure everything is in its correct place, and go over everything a few times on your map.
Finishing the Map
If you want to, feel free to color the background and color certain rooms. Just let your creativity run wild! At last, you should add the title of the school.

Recently, I’ve found many old photos of Mom, Dad, David, me and my first dog Coco. They meant a lot to me. I wondered how to keep them forever. Luckily, my son used a new app to clear up and improve some of the old photos. Looking at them brought back so many loving and happy memories. I even used one as my computer screen saver (屏保).
It is a picture of me sitting on my favorite chair, across from the wood stove (炉子) next to a bookcase full of old books. I am wearing my special Snoopy shirt and hugging Coco. There is a big smile on my face and a joyful shining light in my eyes. It was how I spent a lot of my winter afternoons as a girl, hugging Coco and reading an old book.
It is surprising how 60 years later that girl still lives inside of me. I still love comfortable chairs, warm stoves, Snoopy clothes, hugging dogs and reading books on cold winter days. But when I look in the mirror now, all I see is a thin face, grey hair, and lots of wrinkles (皱纹). The only thing that hasn’t completely changed is the eyes. They are hiding behind glasses now and full of wisdom (智慧) given by ages. But they still have that same joyful shining light.
Looking at the little girl smiling at me from the computer screen and that 66-year-old woman looking back at me in the mirror can be a little bit strange at times. They look so different. However, they are both me. We can’t stop getting older, but we can remain both joyful and young at heart forever.

Now glasses have become a daily necessity for some of us. So what do you know about them?
Nobody knows who made the first wearable eyeglasses but experts say they appeared in Italy. Early eyeglasses were like magnifying glasses (放大镜). And most of them weren’t even made of glass! Instead, many early eyeglasses were made of quartz (石英). That’s because most glass at that time wasn’t clear, so it wouldn’t have worked well for eye-glasses.
Eyeglasses didn’t look much like modern glasses until the 1700’s. That’s when people added car stems (支架) to hold the glasses on their faces. Glasses also became much more common around this time, probably because reading and writing became more popular.
People didn’t start seeing eye doctors for glasses until the 1800s. In those days, people simply tried on different pairs of glasses until they found one that made them see better. Eye doctors changed all that. They gave people an eye test to see whether they needed a pair of glasses or not.
One big change was bifocal (双光眼镜) in 1784. This made glasses help people see things that are both far away and very near. Different kinds of glasses have also appeared. Sunglasses are about as old as eyeglasses. People in China started wearing sunglasses in the 12th century. These early sunglasses were also made of quartz. Nowadays, many people also like to wear contact lenses (隐形眼镜), which were invented by a German in 1887. The first contact lenses were very uncomfortable to wear. However, today’s lenses are soft er and can be worn all day. However, you should always take your contact lenses out at night. Some people even like to wear glasses without lenses. These are called fashion glasses, and they come in many shapes and sizes to match everyone’s personal style.
16. What can we learn from the second paragraph?
A. What early glasses were made of. B. How early glasses were created.
C. When glasses were first made. D. Who made the first set of glasses.
17. What might have made glasses more common in the 1700s?
A. Wearing glasses made people look much better.
B. More and more people liked reading and writing.
C. Ear stems were used to keep glasses on people’s faces.
D. People had better eyesight with the help of eye doctors.
18. Which of the following is TRUE about sunglasses?
A. They first appeared in Italy. B. Early sunglasses were made of quartz.
C. They were invented by a German. D. People wear them just to look good.
19. How many kinds of glasses are mentioned in the passage?
A. Three. B. Four. C. Five. D. Six.

Two baby panda cubs (幼兽) born in a French zoo have finally got names! They were named Yuan Dudu and Huan Lili. Olympic gold medal winner Zhang Jiaqi revealed (揭示) their names together with French football star Kylian Mbappe at a special event on Nov 18.
The names were chosen in an online vote (投票). More than 122,000 people chose the names from five different pairs. The names stand for friendship between France and China, as well as a wish for the cubs’ good health.
Giant pandas usually have two names, a nickname (昵称) and an official name. The nickname is for panda cubs. This way, they can be distinguished (区别) from each other. In case of twins, the older cub gets a nickname with the character “Da” and the younger gets a nickname with the character “Xiao”. They mean “older” and “younger” in Chinese. For example, the panda “Jingjing” gave birth to twins. The older one would be nicknamed “Jingda”, while the younger would be “Jingxiao”. If there is a third cub, it will be nicknamed with “San”. Some pandas get their nicknames because of physical characteristics (特征), while others are named after their birthplaces.
Once they get their official names, nicknames are no longer used. This is because the pandas go into a special database (数据库). Their names will carry information about their family relationships. The pandas also get a special number to prove their identities (身份), just like our ID card numbers. All of this helps with scientific research.
Online votes are not the only way to name the pandas. For example, the Chinese government will name a panda before giving it away as a gift to other countries.

More than 122000 people chose the names from five different pairs.
