【答案】17.B 18.C 19.B 20.A
【原文】 W: Hi! My name's Britt Foxton, and I'm the founder of a website devoted to women's basketball, and I've also just written a book on the same subject.
But first up, let me tell you how I got started with the site. Although it really got going once I was at university, it actually started out as a high-school project, you know, a "design a website" kind of thing. But it wasn't like anyone expected it to become real or anything. I designed a site about girls' basketball, which I was passionate about, and called it femalebasket, com. I knew the name wasn't right, and before it got really successful I changed it to matchgirl. com and that was a really good move.
And although it started with basketball, the site's grown to include other games as well. It features a variety of articles and reviews on everything ranging from basketball to computer games, plus some more traditionally "girly" material as well. But the coverage of team sports is at the heart of it, anything about make-up or fashion is just secondary to that.

Planning a visit to the UK? Here we help with ways to cut your costs.
AVOID BIG EVENTS Big sporting events, concerts and exhibitions can increase the cost of accommodation (膳宿) and make it harder to find a room. A standard double room at the Thistle Brighton on the final Friday of the Brighton Comedy Festival (19 Oct.) cost £169.15 at Booking.com. A week later, the same room cost £118.15.
If you can be flexible and want to know dates to avoid or you’re looking for a big event to pass your time—checkoutsitessuchasWhatsonwhen.com, which allow you to search for events in the UK by city, date and category.
STAY AWAY FROM THE STATION If traveling to your destination by train, you may want to find a good base close to the station, but you could end up paying more for the sake of convenience at the start of your holiday.
Don’t be too choosy about the part of town you stay in. If you book two months in advance, the cheapest room at Travelodge’s Central Euston hotel in London for Saturday, September 22 was £95.95. A room just a tube journey away at its Covent Garden hotel was £75.75. And at Farringdon, a double room cost just £62.95.
GET ON A BIKE London’s “Boris bikes” have attracted the most attention, but other cities also have similar programmes that let you rent a bicycle and explore at your own pace, saving you on public transport or car parking costs.
Among the smaller cities with their own programmes are Newcastle (casual members pay around £1.50 for two hours) and Cardiff (free for up to 30 minutes, or £5 per day).

A.attract lots of travelers to the UK
B.allow travelers to make flexible plans
C.lead to long queues and delays to travelers
D.cause travelers to pay more for accommodation
22.What does “Farringdon” in Paragraph 5 refer to?
A.The name of a travel agency. B.An ideal holiday destination.

Great whites, the largest predatory(捕食性的)sharks in the world with the most fatal attacks on humans, are tough to imagine as newborn babies. That is partially because no one has seen one in the wild, it seems, until now.
Wildlife filmmaker Carlos Gauna and UC Riverside biology doctoral student Phillip Sternes were scanning the waters for sharks on July 9, 2023, near Santa Barbara on California’s central coast. That day, something exciting appeared on the viewfinder of Gauna’s drone camera. It was a shark pup(幼崽)unlike any they’d ever seen.
“We enlarged the images, put them in slow motion, and realized the white layer was being shed(脱落)from the body as it was swimming,” Sternes said. “I believe it was a newborn white shark shedding its embryonic layer.”
These observations are documented in a new paper in the Environmental Biology of Fishes journal. What Gauna and Sternes observed could help solve the longstanding mystery of great white birthing habits. This may well be the first evidence we have of a pup in the wild. Great whites, referred to only as white sharks by scientists, are gray on the top and white on the bottom. But this roughly 5-foot-long shark was pure white.
Though the paper authors acknowledge it is possible that the white layer the shark shed could have been a skin condition, the two believe what they saw was in fact a newborn great white. First, great white females give birth to live pups. A second reason is the presence of large, likely pregnant great whites in this location. Finally, this location off the coast of central California has long been proposed as a birthing location for great whites. Many scholars believe great whites are born farther out at sea.
Great whites are listed as an international endangered species. “Further research is needed to confirm these waters are indeed a great white breeding ground. But if it does, we would want lawmakers to step in and protect these waters to help white sharks keep thriving,” Sternes said.
24.What do we know about what appeared on Carlo s Gauna’s camera?
A.It is rare in the world. B.It is tough to identify.
C.It is not open to the public. D.It is unbelievable to scientists.
25.What does the white shark pup look like?
A.Pure gray. B.White only on the bottom.
C.Gray on the top. D.Pure white.
26.What is paragraph 5 mainly about?
A.How great white females give birth to pups.
B.How the authors prove they saw a baby shark.
C.Why the authors believe they saw a newborn shark pup.
D.Why the authors think the white layer is a skin condition.
27.What does Sternes hope for if their assumption is confirmed?
A.Helping white sharks to stop breeding.
B.Using laws to protect shark pups and their habitats.
C.Listing white sharks as endangered species.
D.Further study to confirm white sharks breeding waters.
【答案】24.A 25.D 26.C 27.B
根据文章第一段“That is partially because no one has seen one in the wild, it seems, until now.(这在一定程度上是因为到目前为止,似乎还没有人在野外见过这种动物)”及第二段“That day, something exciting appeared on the viewfinder of Gauna’s drone camera. It was a shark pup unlike any they’d ever seen.(那天,Gauna的无人机摄像机取景器中出现了令人兴奋的一幕。那是一条他们从未见过的鲨鱼幼崽)”可知,镜头中出现的鲨鱼幼崽在世界上是罕见的。故选A。
25.细节理解题。根据文章第四段“But this roughly 5-foot-long shark was pure white.(但这只约5英尺长的鲨鱼全身纯白)”可知,白鲨幼崽看起来像纯白的。故选D。
26.主旨大意题。根据文章第五段“Though the paper authors acknowledge it is possible that the white layer the shark shed could have been a skin condition, the two believe what they saw was in fact a newborn great white. First, great white females give birth to live pups. A second reason is the presence of large, likely pregnant great whites in this location. Finally, this location off the coast of central California has long been proposed as a birthing location for great whites. Many scholars believe great whites are born farther out at sea.(尽管论文作者承认鲨鱼脱落的白色层可能是皮肤状况造成的,但两人认为他们看到的实际上是一只新生的大白鲨。首先,大白雌性产下活的幼崽。第二个原因是这个地方有可能怀孕的大白鲨。最后,这个位于加利福尼亚州中部海岸的地方长期以来一直被认为是大白鲨的出生地。许多学者认为大白鲨出生在更远的海域)”可知,这一段主要讲述为什么作者认为他们看到了一只新生的鲨鱼幼崽。故选C。
27.细节理解题。根据文章最后一段““Further research is needed to confirm these waters are indeed a great white breeding ground. But if it does, we would want lawmakers to step in and protect these waters to help white sharks keep thriving,” Sternes said.(“需要进一步的研究来确认这些水域确实为大白鲨的繁殖地。但如果确定是,我们将希望立法者介入保护这些水域,帮助大白鲨继续繁盛。”Sternes说道)”可知,如果他们的假设得到证实,Sternes希望利用法律保护鲨鱼幼崽及其栖息地。故选B。

Alongside her impressive musical career, Leona Lewis is also the owner of a vegan (素食主义的) coffee shop, Coffee And Plants. She has great enthusiasm for the coffee shop and reveals the drink flavors that they’ve been working on lately. “We’ve just rolled out our new pumpkin drink at the coffee shop. It’s called Pumpkin Pie, and it’s really good! We use all real pumpkin puree, not flavored syrup.”
Coffee And Plants is a real passion project for Lewis, being fully plant-based. She has a long history of animal activism (行动主义), starting with going vegetarian (素食者) at the age of 12 after going on shopping trips with her mum and seeing protesters with animal testing signs. “I was so upset, I said, ‘Mum, I have to help the animals’,” she says. “That became my mission as a kid, and it’s fed into every aspect of my life.”
Her animal activism grew alongside her fame: in 2011 she supported a campaign to ban the use of wild animals in circuses, and in 2013 she released a cruelty-free makeup line with The Body Shop. When it came to opening a coffee shop, making it plant-based was a no-brainer.
“I wanted it to be plant-based because I’m plant-based,” she says. “I would often go into coffee shops and see milk cartons piled up high and think, how many cows are being milked for this? The dairy industry and mass farming—it’s so cruel and harms the environment too.”
Environmental awareness is also at the heart of Coffee And Plants, with all cups being recyclable. But ultimately, Lewis is hoping for a more widespread mindset shift. “What we really try and get people to do is actually bring in their own bottles to refill, or we encourage them to sit in and have a coffee in a cup instead,” she explains. “We need a mindset shift where we start to think, OK, we shouldn’t really be using stuff that just goes in the bin.”
28.What does the phrase “rolled out” underlined in the first paragraph mean?
A.improved B.discovered C.denied D.launched
29.Why did Lewis decide to be a vegetarian?
A.She hated to eat animal meat. B.She wanted to protect animals.
C.She was inspired by her mom. D.She was given a great mission.
30.What is the author’s purpose in mentioning the release of a cruelty-free makeup line?
A.To show Lewis influence on business.
B.To compare Lewis’ different activities.
C.To prove that the makeup line is plant-based.
D.To give an example of Lewis’ animal activism.
31.Which of the following statements may Lewis agree with?
A.People have to start using reusable things.
B.The mind shift is quite easy to accomplish.
C.People shouldn’t use cups in the coffee shop.
D.Only vegetarians can go into the coffee shop.
【答案】28.D 29.B 30.D 31.A
【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章讲述了作为素食者的Lewis为保护动物做了很多贡献,并开了一家素食咖啡店,她希望人们可以自带杯子来盛咖啡,减少垃圾。
28.词句猜测题。划线词句前文“She has great enthusiasm for the coffee shop and reveals the drink flavors that they’ve been working on lately.(她对这家咖啡店有着极大的热情,并透露了他们最近正在开发的饮料口味。)”说明这家咖啡店开发了一种新饮料,从而推知划线词句“We’ve just rolled out our new pumpkin drink at the coffee shop.(我们刚刚在咖啡店rolled out新的南瓜饮料。)”其中划线词应为“推出”的意思,与D项同义。故选D项。
29.细节理解题。根据第二段中“She has a long history of animal activism(行动主义), starting with going vegetarian(素食者) at the age of 12 after going on shopping trips with her mum and seeing protesters with animal testing signs.(她长期致力于动物保护运动,从12岁开始,她和妈妈一起去购物,看到抗议者拿着动物试验的牌子,之后就变成了素食者。)”可知,Lewis决定成为一名素食者是因为她想保护动物。故选B项。
30.推理判断题。根据第三段中“Her animal activism grew alongside her fame: in 2011 she supported a campaign to ban the use of wild animals in circuses, and in 2013 she released a cruelty-free makeup line with The Body Shop.(她的动物保护主义伴随着她的名气而增长:2011年,她支持一项禁止在马戏团使用野生动物的运动,2013年,她与The Body Shop合作推出了一个无残忍的化妆品系列。)”可知,作者提到一个无残忍化妆品系列的发布的目的是,列举一个Lewis的动物保护主义的例子。故选D项。
31.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Environmental awareness is also at the heart of Coffee And Plants, with all cups being recyclable. But ultimately, Lewis is hoping for a more widespread mindset shift. ‘What we really try and get people to do is actually bring in their own bottles to refill, or we encourage them to sit in and have a coffee in a cup instead,’ she explains. ‘We need a mindset shift where we start to think, OK, we shouldn’t really be using stuff that just goes in the bin.’(环保意识也是咖啡和植物的核心,所有的杯子都是可回收的。但最终,Lewis希望更广泛的心态转变。她解释说:‘我们真正试图让人们做的是,把自己的瓶子带进来重新装满,或者我们鼓励他们坐在里面,用杯子喝咖啡。’‘我们需要转变思维方式,开始思考,好吧,我们不应该真的使用那些直接扔进垃圾箱的东西。’)”可知,Lewis会同意这种说法,人们需要转变思维方式,必须开始使用可重复使用的东西。故选A项。
D
Across the world, people and governments are banning pesticides (杀虫剂) and planting more flowers to increase bee populations naturally. Now farmers and beekeepers have a new way to protect bee populations.
The traditional hive most commonly used in the world today was designed by humans about 150 years ago. Most people are so used to them that they mistakenly confuse them with bees’ natural habitat. By completely redesigning the beehive, a company called Beewise was able to address many of the inefficiencies of the box and significantly improve bees’ well- being and lifetime.
Using 24/7 monitoring and smart technology that significantly increases pollination capacity (授粉能力) and honey production, Beewise’s robotic beehive, the Beehome, discovers threats to a honeybee population such as pesticides and the presence of pests and immediately defends against them. Its automatic robotic system responds to threats in real time and requires no human assistance. Beehomes are thermally regulated (热调节的) and can provide protection from fires, flooding, and Asian wasps. The hive even feeds the honeybees when local food supply is not available.
In a statement, the company says, “The Beehome reduces bee deaths by 80%, resulting in increased production of at least 50%, while reducing about 90% of manual labor (体力劳动) when compared to traditional beehives.”
Beewise currently manages more than seven billion bees, which is equal to 25,000 acres of pollinated crops. Through the Beehome device, the Israeli startup says it has saved over 160 million bees over the course of the last 12 months.
Their task of saving bees recently received $80 million funding for their autonomous hive. “We are using precision robotics with the world’s most creative technologies including AI and computer vision in order to save the bees,” stated Saar Safra, CEO of Beewise. He says that with thousands of orders placed in the U.S. in just the last few months, their new funding will allow Beewise to meet the market demand through increased production.
32.What do we know about the traditional hive most commonly used today?
A.It is artificial. B.It is bees’ natural habitat.
C.It can be confusing to bees. D.It does more harm than good.
33.What is an advantage of the Beehome?
A.It is similar to natural beehives. B.It can help bees to settle down.
C.It can monitor fires and floods. D.It keeps bees away from threats.
34.What is Saar Safra’s attitude towards the Beehome?
A.Doubtful. B.Objective. C.Positive. D.Conservative.
35.What is the text mainly about?
A.The benefits of banning pesticides. B.A new device to save bee populations.
C.Potential threats bees are facing today. D.Ways to increase bees’ pollination ability.
【答案】32.A 33.D 34.C 35.B
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍的是一种新型的机器人蜂巢Beehome以及它如何帮助拯救和保护蜜蜂种群。
32.细节理解题。根据第二段“The traditional hive most commonly used in the world today was designed by humans about 150 years ago.(当今世界上最常用的传统蜂巢是大约150年前由人类设计的。)”可知,今天最常用的传统蜂箱是人造的。故选A。
33.细节理解题。根据第三段“Using 24/7 monitoring and smart technology that significantly increases pollination capacity (授粉能力) and honey production, Beewise’s robotic beehive, the Beehome, discovers threats to a honeybee population such as pesticides and the presence of pests and immediately defends against them. Its automatic robotic system responds to threats in real time and requires no human assistance.(Beewise的机器人蜂巢Beehome采用全天候监控和智能技术,显著提高了授粉能力和蜂蜜产量,它能发现蜜蜂种群面临的威胁,如杀虫剂和害虫的存在,并立即采取防御措施。它的自动机器人系统对威胁做出实时反应,不需要人工协助。)”可知,Beehome的优势是它使蜜蜂远离威胁。故选D。
34.推理判断题。根据最后一段“We are using precision robotics with the world’s most creative technologies including AI and computer vision in order to save the bees(为了拯救蜜蜂,我们正在使用精密机器人和世界上最具创意的技术,包括人工智能和计算机视觉。)”和“He says that with thousands of orders placed in the U.S. in just the last few months, their new funding will allow Beewise to meet the market demand through increased production.(他说,仅仅在过去的几个月里,美国就接到了数千份订单,他们的新资金将使Beewise能够通过增加产量来满足市场需求。)”可知,Saar Safra对Beehome的态度是积极的,故选C。
35.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第二段“By completely redesigning the beehive, a company called Beewise was able to address many of the inefficiencies of the box and significantly improve bees’ well- being and lifetime.(通过彻底重新设计蜂巢,一家名为Beewise的公司能够解决蜂巢中许多效率低下的问题,并显著改善蜜蜂的健康和寿命。)”可知,本文主要介绍的是一种新型的机器人蜂巢Beehome以及它如何帮助拯救和保护蜜蜂种群,因此本文的主旨是B选项“A new device to save bee populations.(一种拯救蜜蜂种群的新装置。)”。故选B。

Dear Mr. Smith,
I’m Li Hua, a Chinese exchange student in your school. I’m writing to suggest including Mandarin Chinese courses in our current curriculum, given that many students here show ongoing strong interest in it.
Known as one of the most spoken languages in the world and with its growing in popularity worldwide, Mandarin Chinese has entered numerous classrooms in foreign countries. Besides, due to the rise of China’s international influence, speaking Chinese fluently has become a highly valued professional skill. Furthermore, learning Chinese helps open a unique window into one of the world’s richest and most ancient civilizations.
I hope you can take my suggestion into serious consideration. Looking forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节 (满分25分)
One day, a loyal customer named Mrs. Johnson approached Emma with tears in her eyes. She shared a heartwarming story of how Emma’s treats had provided comfort to her family during a difficult time. Emma’s eyes were filled with tears as Mrs. Johnson’s words sank in. Her words inspired Emma and made her realize that success isn’t just about winning competitions. It’s about making a positive impact on others.
With a renewed sense of purpose, Emma changed her focus. She wanted to bring joy to people through her baking. Emma started running baking workshops, sharing her knowledge and love for baking with others. She discovered that her true calling was connecting with people and bringing them happiness through her creations. And as for those doubts? They vanished like the morning mist, replaced by a deep sense of gratitude for the opportunity to share her gift with the world.

21.The Brighton Comedy Festival is mentioned mainly to show big events may_______.
A.attract lots of travelers to the UK

D.cause travelers to pay more for accommodation
22.What does “Farringdon” in Paragraph 5 refer to?

23.What is the main purpose of the passage?
A.To show visitors how to rent bikes.
B.To offer visitors some money-saving tips.
C.To supply visitors with hotel information.
D.To tell visitors how to book hotels in advance.

C

Feeling both excited and nervous, Emma was determined to prove herself and get rid of her doubts, She worked really hard, waking up early every day to improve her recipes and skills, Her bread smelled amazing as she baked tirelessly, showing how much she cared about her craft.
