A university lecturer in Linyi, Shandong province, has shone a light on the difficulties of food delivery drivers by taking on the role himself for a month and sharing his trials and sufferings online.
Last December, Xing Bin, a lecturer at the College of Literature at Linyi University, was so eager to know about what life and work must be like for a delivery driver, so he decided to sign up and be one from December to January this year. The gig economy (临时工), for better or worse, has exploded in China in recent years, and though many members of the workforce choose to work in the gig economy because of its flexibility (灵活性), others prefer full-time employment.

On average, he earned 10 yuan each hour, and 20 yuan at most. “I was delivering food from early morning till late at night for around 13 hours a day. When I had classes, I delivered food for two hours early in the morning, and after dinner I continued delivering until one or two in the morning,” Xing said.
“Before, if I got a call from a delivery worker, I might delay answering it. But now I will always answer it immediately because I know they might be riding an electric bike while making the call, which is very dangerous,” said Xing, adding that he now understands the difficulties of delivery workers better and realizes how hard they work to make a living.
“During that month, I tasted the bitterness and the happiness of this job with my heart. I delivered over 2, 000 orders, and three of the people who ordered impressed me a lot.” he said.

On August 20th, 2024, the Chinese gaming industry reached a milestone with the global launch (发行) of Black Myth: Wukong, a new AAA action role-playing game developed by Game Science. Within hours of launch, it topped Steam’s most-played single-player list, drawing much attention on social media.
Black Myth: Wukong draws on Chinese mythologies (神话) and the classic novel Journey to the West. It allows players to imagine the role of Sun Wukong and start great adventures, creating some lively and impressive sights, like high mountains, wild roads and ancient temples. The various gods and other figures with Chinese-style designs in the game are based on The Classic of Mountains and Seas, breathing new life into the ancient stories of Chinese mythology.
Feng Ji, Game Science’s CEO, stressed that the game was created completely by a Chinese team to bring Chinese stories to the global gaming stage. He said, “The story and artistic ideas always break new ground, integrating (融入) Chinese stories and classical culture into the game.” He believed that a game’s true value is not decided by how much it costs or how much it will make, but by the satisfactory enjoyment it offers players.
According to the Xinhua News Agency, to create a truly immersive (沉浸式的), world-class game, the game’s production team spent years traveling across China, visiting historical and cultural sites, and integrating them into every game. The game designs 36 locations which look like real-world sites, with 27 of them in Shanxi Province, China, offering players a unique and immersive experience.
The game has increased interest in Shanxi’s cultural heritage. On its launch day, the search online increased by over 10%. Bookings for trips to Shanxi have doubled since July, and the number of tourists to Shanxi has grown by 50%. Shanxi has many tourist attractions but lacks recognition both at home and abroad. The game has presented Shanxi’s cultural relics in a pleasing and effective way, raising people’s interest in the province’s culture and travel.
8. What does the underlined phrases “draws on” mean in paragraph 2?
A. Take advantage of. B. Apply to. C. Take notice of. D. Focus on.
9. What is the key to making a truly valuable game according to Feng Ji?

B. Integrating Chinese stories into artistic concepts.
C. Designing impressive characters and pleasant effects.
D. Providing a satisfying experience for players.

In a number of studies, researchers found highly trained dogs may be more successful than untrained pets in independently solving newly-presented problems.
Researchers have discovered that one of the factors (因素) behind this process may be persistence (坚持). It includes reinforcement, the rule that behaviors that are rewarded become stronger and more often. The other side of this is extinction, which refers to the fact that behaviors that are not rewarded grow weaker and become less likely to appear. When extinction sets in, the animal will simply quit before the problem is solved. It is possible that highly trained dogs have learned to persist and thus are less likely to be affected by extinction, which would make them better problem solvers.
In this recent study, the researchers looked at 26 adult dogs divided into two groups, “trained dogs” and “pet dogs”. There were two tasks that the dogs were tested on. One was a social learning task where the dog had to learn to look directly into the experimenter’s eyes. Every time the dog stared at the experimenter’s face, they received a treat (reinforcement). Once the dogs were performing this task, the extinction stage began, and the staring behavior was no longer rewarded in order to see how persistent the newly learned behavior was.
The second task focused on problem-solving. It involved a flat disk that had bone-shaped plastic bones. The dogs had to learn to remove the plastic bones to get the treat hiding under each one. After the series (一系列) of rewarded experiments, the extinction stage began, and no more reinforcements were provided for removing the bones.
In the social learning task, the trained dogs stared at the experimenters more than the pet dogs during extinction. While in the problem-solving task, the trained dogs picked up a larger number of bones during extinction. In other words, for dogs who had been trained, their newly learned behaviors persisted longer and were stronger than the behaviors of the pet dogs who received no training in any area.
12. How does the author introduce the topic?
A. By listing a fact. B. By raising a doubt.
C. By making a comparison. D. By showing a conclusion.
13. Which of the following can be seen as “reinforcement”?
A. Chaining a dog up while walking it every day.
B. Giving a goat some grass every time it stands up.
C. Putting a fish back into the pool every time it jumps out.
D. Shouting at a cat every time it fails to catch a mouse.
14. How can dogs benefit from training in the experiment?
A. They are better at helping their friends.
B. They can grow stronger than untrained dogs.
C. They are more likely to live longer.
D. Their newly learned behaviors last longer.
15. Which of the following can be the best title of the text?
A. How to Pick out a Suitable Pet Dog
B Why Persistent Dogs Make Better Pets
C. Why Trained Dogs Solve Problems Better
D. How Researchers Carry out Animal Experiments

There is a story from many years ago of a primary school teacher. Her name was Mrs. Thompson. And as she stood in front of the 5th grade class on the very first day of school, she told the children a lie. Like most teachers, she looked at her students and said that she loved them all the same.
But that was impossible because there in the front row, slumped (萎靡不振) in his seat, was a little boy named Teddy Stoddard.
Mrs. Thompson had watched Teddy the year before and noticed that he didn’t play well with the other children, his clothes were messy and constantly needed a bath. And, Teddy could be unpleasant.
It got to the point where Mrs. Thompson would actually take delight in making his papers with a red pen, making bold Xs and then putting a “F” at the top of his papers. At the school where Mrs. Thompson taught, she was required to relieve each child’s past records and she put Teddy’s off until last.
However, when she relieved his file, she was surprised, Teddy’s first grade teacher wrote, “Teddy is a bright child with a ready laugh. He does his work neatly and has good manners. . . he is a joy to be around.”
His second grade teacher wrote, “Teddy is an excellent student, well liked by his classmates. But he is troubled because his mother has a terminal illness (绝症) and life at home must be a struggle.”
His third grade teacher wrote, “His mother’s death has been hard on him. He tried to do his best but his father doesn’t show much interest in him, and his home life will be in trouble.”
Teddy’s fourth grade teacher wrote, “Teddy is withdrawn and doesn’t show much interest in school. He doesn’t have many friends and sometimes sleeps in class.”
By now, Mrs. Thompson realized the problem and she was ashamed of herself. She felt even worse when her students brought her Christmas presents, wrapped in beautiful paper and tied with pretty ribbons, except for Teddy’s. His present was clumsily wrapped in the heavy, brown paper that he got from a grocery bag.

B. Why Persistent Dogs Make Better Pets
C. Why Trained Dogs Solve Problems Better
D. How Researchers Carry out Animal Experiments
D 13. B 14. D 15. C
由文章第一段“In a number of studies, researchers found highly trained dogs may be more successful than untrained pets in independently solving newly-presented problems. (在多项研究中,研究人员发现,训练有素的狗在独立解决新出现的问题时,可能比未经训练的宠物狗更有成效。)”可知,作者是通过展示一个研究结论来引入章主题的。故选D。
【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段中“It includes reinforcement, the rule that behaviors that are rewarded become stronger and more often. (这其中包括强化作用,即那些得到奖励的行为会变得更强且更频繁出现的规律。)”可知,强化是指受到奖励的行为会变得更加强大和频繁。再根据第三段中“Every time the dog stared at the experimenter’s face, they received a treat (reinforcement). (每次狗盯着实验人员的脸时,它们都会得到一份食物奖励(强化作用)。)”可知,每次狗盯着实验者的脸看时,它们都会得到奖励(强化)。因此,选项B“Giving a goat some grass every time it stands up. (每次山羊站起来时给它一些草)”可以看作是强化,因为它是对山羊站起来这一行为的奖励。故选B。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段中“In other words, for dogs who had been trained, their newly learned behaviors persisted longer and were stronger than the behaviors of the pet dogs who received no training in any area. (换句话说,对于接受过训练的狗来说,它们新学会的行为比那些在任何方面都没有接受过训练的宠物犬的行为,持续的时间更长,也更稳定。)”可知,实验中接受过训练的狗的新学会的行为持续的时间更长。故选D。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其根据第二段中“It is possible that highly trained dogs have learned to persist and thus are less likely to be affected by extinction, which would make them better problem solvers.

去掉it is和设空处句子依然完整,因此此处为强调句:it is+强调部分+that(强调人可用who)+其他,本句强调主语these three rivers。故填that。
故填at。
故填have been chosen。
故填which。
故填its。

注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;

After the children left, she cried for at least an hour.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Mrs. Thompson opened it in the middle of the other presents. Inside, she found a small, well carved wooden jewelry box, its edges worn but polished with evident care. Lying within was a simple necklace, a single pearl suspended on a delicate chain. Attached was a note, Teddy’s handwriting scrawled across it: “Mrs. Thompson, you are my shining pearl. Thank you for being my teacher.” Overwhelmed by the heartfelt gesture from the child she had so harshly judged, tears welled up in her eyes. She managed a smile and thanked Teddy, who beamed back at her with a rare twinkle of hope.
After the children left, she cried for at least an hour. The weight of her misjudgment and the realization of Teddy’s immense pain crushed her heart. She vowed to be the teacher Teddy deserved. From that day forward, Mrs. Thompson made a conscious effort to encourage Teddy, praising his efforts, offering extra help, and showing him the warmth and attention he so desperately needed. Slowly but surely, Teddy began to bloom under her care, his grades improving, his demeanor brightening, and his relationships with classmates strengthening. Mrs. Thompson learned that love, like the pearl in the box, might appear rough and unassuming on the outside, but holds immeasurable value when truly seen and cherished.
