B Growing up, I disliked writing. It was the last thing I wanted to do and it’s one reason why I pursued science in the first place. In high school, I hated writing essays. For hours, I stared at blank pages, trying to turn my scattered thoughts into fluent sentences and I often received papers marked with numerous corrections. I began to wonder if I was simply not cut out for writing. And that was OK. I didn’t have to be good at everything. I focused instead on my love for math and science. I took comfort there, knowing objective truth could be found if I searched methodically. In college, I studied engineering and joined a research lab to gain hands-on experience. My first project was to improve the efficiency of a magnetic component. Despite initial disappointing results, I continued through numerous designs. Eventually, we developed a design that halved energy losses. I was delighted — until my professor told me to write that research paper. I knew that if I wanted to become a researcher, I would need to spend time penning papers. But I was scared of failing. In a panic, I asked a graduate student in my lab for help. We defined a goal for the paper, and I carefully wrote an outline. But when I asked him for feedback, I soon found the paper covered in red marks. He explained that red didn’t mean I was a bad writer. Writing isn’t a one-and-done thing. It requires revising your work, often several times. Suddenly it occurred to me, “Hadn’t I done the same thing when I was searching for an efficient design?” I polished my paper’s outline into sentences and paragraphs, guided by feedback. Though my first draft wasn’t perfect, with help, I enjoyed the process of improving it. Writing has since become one of my favorite parts of research, helping me organize my thoughts. I’ve even started writing popular science articles, which I never could have imagined during my early struggles with essays. 4. What did the author initially think of writing? A. A piece of cake. B. A ray of sunshine. C. A nut hard to crack. D. A diamond in the rough. 5. What was the author’s main challenge in the research project? A. Designing the magnetic component. B. Cooperating with the research team. C. Collecting the experimental data. D. Writing the research paper. 6. What did the author learn from her writing and research? A. Both require trial and error. B. Both consume time and money. C. Both offer promotion and reputation. D. Both involve burden and stress. 7. What helped the author improve writing? A. Discovering objective standards in writing. B. Following good examples of other students. C. Publishing several academic papers successfully. D. Constantly working on writing and improving. C When Joe Gray coppiced (修剪) a spot of woodland on his Essex farm he noticed that a deserted pond (池塘) sprang back into life after it was exposed to sunlight. Since then, he and his wife, Emma, have restored 11 dead ponds on their regenerative farm. Ponds that were shaded over or overgrown by bushes have been opened up to sunlight and dug out, and are now booming with rare water plants and insects - also providing food and water for birds and bats. This pond restoration effort has been motivated by the Essex lost ponds project. Volunteers have identified 17, 200 ponds across the county, of which 10, 400 have disappeared, mostly because of agricultural development in the 20th century. When tractors replaced horses, there was less need for ponds for livestock (牲畜) and when fields were enlarged, many ponds were filled in. “The dragonflies, the beetles, the birds flying overhead - it’s just pumping out nature into the farmed landscape.” says Mark Nowers, a wild bird conservation adviser in Essex. Wild birds need sufficient and accessible seed-rich habitat and thick bushes to nest in, but are also assisted by restored ponds because they require access to fresh water close to nesting sites. Ponds take little or no land out of food production. The Grays now devote 40% of their land to wildlife-restoring projects but grow as much food as before, simply because they are now using only the most productive parts of their land. Their regenerative farming - not ploughing, and thereby boosting soil health and wider biodiversity - alongside seed mixes for wild birds attracts flocks of 1, 000 linnet on to the farm in winter. “We’re not the sort of farmers who want to see everything rewilded,” says Emma Gray. “We are passionate about growing food but it can be done in balance with nature.” 8. How did Gray revive the deserted pond? A. By sheltering birds. B. By purifying water. C. By removing bushes. D. By trapping insects. 9. What was a cause of the pond disappearance in the 20th century? A. The application of farm machinery. B. The increase of livestock raising. C. The introduction of new species. D. The expansion of woodland. 10. What can we infer about regenerative farming from the last paragraph? A. It involves organic food processing. B. It aims to rewild as much land as possible. C. It improves the environment but leads to protests. D. It achieves productivity while supporting biodiversity. 11. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Freeing the Skies for Wild Birds B. Essex Lost Ponds Project Taking a Bow C. Ploughing All the Way to Agricultural Progress D. Restored Ponds Repumping Nature into Farmland D With the rapid development of artificial intelligence, DeepSeek, a Chinese AI company, has emerged as a pioneer in educational technology. Its latest model, DeepSeek-R1, combines advanced machine learning methods to provide personalized learning solutions for students worldwide. Unlike traditional AI models that rely on pre-programmed answers DeepSeek-R1 uses reinforcement (强化) learning to simulate human reasoning. This allows it to guide students through problem-solving step by step, much like a patient tutor. For example, when a student struggles with a math equation, DeepSeek-R1 doesn’t just give the answer; it breaks down the logic, identifies errors, and encourages critical thinking. The model’s applications extend beyond academics. In language learning, it analyzes students’ pronunciation through AI speech recognition and offers real-time feedback. For teachers, DeepSeek-R1 can generate lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards and even predict students’ learning difficulties based on historical data. Its “adaptive testing” feature creates customized quizzes that adjust difficulty according to individual progress. However, challenges remain. Critics argue that over-reliance on AI might reduce human interaction in education. DeepSeek’s developers address this by emphasizing its role as a “supplement, not a replacement.” As Dr. Li, a DeepSeek researcher, stated, “Our goal is to free teachers from repetitive tasks so they can focus on inspiring creativity.” Looking ahead, DeepSeek aims to integrate virtual reality (VR) into its platform, allowing students to explore historical events or scientific concepts in immersive 3D environments. While ethical debates about AI in education persist, one thing is clear: tools like DeepSeek are reshaping how we learn, blending technology with human wisdom. 12. What makes DeepSeek-R1 different from traditional AI models? A. It uses pre-programmed answers. B. It focuses on memorization techniques. C. It replaces teachers in classrooms. D. It employs reinforcement learning for reasoning. 13. The underlined word “adaptive” in Paragraph 3 most likely means ______. A. fixed B. adjustable C. complicated D. outdated 14. What can be inferred about DeepSeek’s future plans? A. VR technology will enhance interactive learning. B. It will eliminate all classroom activities. C. It prioritizes profit over educational values. D. Teachers will lose their jobs to AI. 15. What is the main purpose of the passage? A. To advertise DeepSeek products. B. To criticize the risks of AI in schools. C. To discuss AI’s role in transforming education. D. To compare different AI models. Very few things in nature are as contagious (传染性的) as a virus. That’s why we take precautions, because no one wants to catch it. But there is something more contagious than a virus. ____16____ Like a virus, emotional contagion works invisibly, and often unconsciously. Our amygdalae (杏仁核) are highly sensitive to emotional signals, especially negative ones. They catch emotional meaning microseconds before our conscious minds are aware of what we’re looking at. That’s why we can quickly develop a vague sense of happiness or sadness from an encounter, before realizing why. ____17____ You can infect someone half a world away, whether they’re reading your email, hearing your voice, or seeing you on a Zoom call. So what does this mean to you? Depending on whether you have a good attitude or a bad one, you either prevent its spread or encourage it. If you go into a call with a customer with discouragement or desperation, you will infect them with your attitude. If you go into a call with the confidence in your ability to help them, you will also infect them. It’s especially important if you’re a leader since everyone pays great attention to everything you say and do. So what should we do? Take active control of your emotional state. ____18____ Be mindful; look inside yourself and name the emotion you are feeling. It’s called labeling, and this simple act places your executive functions back in control. If the emotion you’ re feeling is not the one you wish to portray during this next conversation or meeting, try to change it. If that’s too difficult, at least try to pretend you’re feeling good. ____19____ Our minds often read signals from our bodies, so “fake it till you make it” is actually sound advice. Emotional contagion works both ways, so you also have to guard against catching others’ negative attitudes. Again, it begins with self-awareness. If you have a good handle on your internal feelings, you can counteract other’s negative influences on you. In the end, it is all about personal responsibility. There is enough negativity spreading around, and we can’t control all of it. ____20____ Let’s be contagious in a positive way! A. Unlike a real virus distance is no protection. B. No one can guarantee to stay positive all the time. C. It’s your attitude, or more precisely, your emotional state. D. Self-awareness is like a vaccine against emotional contagion. E. But we can each determine to avoid being part of the problem. F. Put on a smile, lift your chin, and add some enthusiasm in your voice. G. Here is an explanation of how one’s emotional state is more contagious than a virus. In the heart of Nebraska of the west-central United States, a remarkable story is unfolding. I always measured my success by hugs and smiles from my students, not by data and test scores. I can clearly remember how I became a teacher. I had once been a high school dropout. In order to find a secretarial job to make a living, I attended a typing training course, where I came across my life coach, Mr Martin. He told me that both a degree and ability were important in the journey of life, and encouraged me to apply for college admission. With Mr. Martin’s help and inspiration, I went back to high school and then entered a local college. College life proved challenging but rewarding. I earned a master’s degree in English Education, and set out on my own career as an English teacher. Being a teacher, I had the privilege of working with diverse students, each with unique strengths. One student, Eddie, stood out. Eddie was bright and loved stories but disliked English. During my lessons, he would sit quietly in his seat, frustrated. Determined to help Eddie, I tried a different approach. Knowing his love for stories, I incorporated (使并入)storytelling into English lessons. Then I found that his eyes lit up, and then he became an active participant. Gradually, his attitude towards English changed. Eddie’s transformation reminded me why I became a teacher. It wasn’t about test scores. It was about making a difference. I taught many students, but I didn’t forget Mr. Martin’s teaching. One day, I dropped by his office without an appointment. “You probably don’t remember me,” I said, “but I came here five years ago. I just want to thank you for your help.” “Of course, I remember you,” he said. “I remember your face and your story. How have you been doing?” I told him that I was teaching English and that I owed all of my success to him. He was proud of me. Years later, I was shopping in a supermarket when I heard a voice behind me. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “Eddie, you want to be an English teacher? 【答案】4. C 5. D 6. A 7. D 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇记叙文。本文讲述了作者从厌恶写作到爱上写作的转变过程。尽管起初在写作上遇到重重困难,且对写作课感到沮丧,作者却在工科研究中找到了自信。通过不断尝试与修正磁性组件设计,作者领悟到写作亦如科研,需反复打磨。最终,在他人的帮助下,作者不仅克服了写作恐惧,还开始享受这一组织思考的过程,并涉足科普文章写作。 【4题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段中的“For hours, I stared at blank pages, trying to turn my scattered thoughts into fluent sentences and I often received papers marked with numerous corrections.(一连几个小时,我盯着空白的纸,试图把我零散的想法变成流利的句子,我经常收到批改很多的试卷)”可推知,写作对作者来说是一件很难攻克的事。“A nut hard to crack”表示棘手的难题,符合作者最初对写作的看法。故选C。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段内容“Despite initial disappointing results, I continued through numerous designs. Eventually, we developed a design that halved energy losses. I was delighted — until my professor told me to write that research paper.(最终,我们开发了一种能将能量损失减半的设计。 故选A。 【7题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中的“I polished my paper’s outline into sentences and paragraphs, guided by feedback. Though my first draft wasn’t perfect, with help, I enjoyed the process of improving it.(在反馈的指导下,我把论文的提纲润色成句子和段落。虽然我的初稿并不完美,但在别人的帮助下,我很享受改进它的过程)”可知,作者在反馈的引导下不断完善论文的大纲,使其变成句子和段落,尽管初稿不完美,但享受改进的过程,也就是通过不断坚持写作以及根据反馈不断修正来提升写作水平。故选D。 C When Joe Gray coppiced (修剪) a spot of woodland on his Essex farm, he noticed that a deserted pond (池塘) sprang back into life after it was exposed to sunlight. Restored Ponds Repumping Nature into Farmland 【答案】8. C 9. A 10. D 11. (当拖拉机取代马匹时,牲畜对池塘的需求减少了,当田地扩大时,许多池塘被填满了。)”可知,20世纪池塘消失的一个原因是农机具的使用。故选A项。 根据最后一段中“The Grays now devote 40% of their land to wildlife-restoring projects but grow as much food as before, simply because they are now using only the most productive parts of their land. Their regenerative farming - not ploughing, and thereby boosting soil health and wider biodiversity - alongside seed mixes for wild birds attracts flocks of 1, 000 linnet on to the farm in winter. (格雷一家现在将40%的土地用于野生动物恢复项目,但种植的粮食和以前一样多,原因很简单,他们现在只使用了土地上最多产的部分。他们的再生农业——而不是耕作,从而促进了土壤健康和更广泛的生物多样性——与野生鸟类的种子混合在一起,吸引了1000只红雀在冬天来到农场。)”可知,再生农业在支持生物多样性的同时实现了生产力。故选D项。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,结合第一段“When Joe Gray coppiced a spot of woodland on his Essex farm, he noticed that a deserted pond sprang back into life after it was exposed to sunlight. (当Joe Gray在他位于埃塞克斯的农场上修剪了一片林地时,他注意到一个废弃的池塘在暴露在阳光下后恢复了生机。)”和最后一段中“Their regenerative farming - not ploughing, and thereby boosting soil health and wider biodiversity - alongside seed mixes for wild birds attracts flocks of 1,000 linnet on to the farm in winter. D With the rapid development of artificial intelligence, DeepSeek, a Chinese AI company, has emerged as a pioneer in educational technology. Its latest model, DeepSeek-R1, combines advanced machine learning methods to provide personalized learning solutions for students worldwide. Unlike traditional AI models that rely on pre-programmed answers, DeepSeek-R1 uses reinforcement (强化) learning to simulate human reasoning. A It uses pre-programmed answers. 12. D 13. B 14. A 15. A. Unlike a real virus, distance is no protection. 16. C 17. A 18. D 19. F 20. But I remember you used to hate English,” I said. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Years later, I was shopping in a supermarket when I heard a voice behind me. Turning around, I saw a familiar face — Eddie, now a grown man. “Miss, is that you?” he exclaimed. We hugged and caught up on each other’s lives. Eddie mentioned that after graduating, he’d traveled abroad, experienced different cultures, and realized the importance of English. Inspired by my teaching methods, he now wanted to become an English teacher himself, to pass on the joy of learning and make a difference in others’ lives. “Eddie, you want to be an English teacher? But I remember you used to hate English,” I said. He smiled and nodded, “That’s true, Miss. But you changed my perspective. Your storytelling approach made me realize the beauty of the language and literature. I want to do the same for others, to inspire them like you did for me.” Hearing this, my heart filled with pride. I knew my decision to become a teacher had been the right one. Moments like these were the true measure of my success. 词汇激活 行为类 ①拥抱:hug/embrace ②厌恶:hate/dislike/loathe ③激励:inspire/motivate/stimulate 情绪类 ①高兴:joy/delight ②微笑:smile/beam 【点睛】[高分句型1] Eddie mentioned that after graduating, he’d traveled abroad, experienced different cultures, and realized the importance of English.
