We put this to the test by asking three people to open their fridge doors and talk about their lifestyles. Jenny 31 Teacher My husband and I avoid all products that come from animals. This means we don’t eat meat. We like cooking at home and make our meals from fresh, seasonal fruit and vegetables. Cooking together gives us a chance to relax and catch up on each other’s days. If we have children, I want to bring them up just like us, but my husband says that everyone should be able to make their own lifestyle choices. Ted 35 Construction worker Each day at the construction site is more or less the same — tiring! When I get back home, there’s nothing more satisfying than a big meat dinner. I guess I’ve always been a big meat eater and in this house, no family meal is complete without some form of meat. I still don’t think that anything can beat my mum’s homemade sausages, though. Mike 49 Chef With five children, we’re one big family! My wife and I both work full-time, so life can get pretty busy! Like a lot of chefs I know, I don’t really do much cooking at home. Sometimes I bring home food from the restaurant where I work. Once a week, we do a big shop and buy a lot of frozen food. I know we should eat more fresh fruit and vegetables, but ready meals are so convenient. 1. What can we learn about Jenny? A. She likes ready meals. B. She has children to bring up. C. She enjoys vegetable-free dinners. D. She enjoys cooking together with her husband. 2. What might Mike say? A. My fridge is filled with meat. B. As a chef, I don’t need so much frozen food. C. An advertisement. D. Product introductions. B Some of my earliest memories involve sitting with my dad in his study every night when he came home from the office, I’d watch as he put his personal items away; his watch, wallet, comb and car keys They would always occupy the same spot on the table every time. Dad’s comb was jade green. I heard he bought it when he married Mum. Every night, he would smile, hand me the comb and say, “Be a good girl and help Daddy clean it, OK?” I was more than happy to do it. At age five, this kind of task brought me such joy. I would excitedly turn the tap on, and then brush the comb with a used toothbrush as hard as I could. Satisfied that I’d done a good job, I would proudly return the comb to Dad. He would smile at me, and place the comb on top of his wallet. About two years later, Dad left his sales job and started his own wholesale business. I started primary school. That was when things started to change. Dad’s business wasn’t doing so well, and our stable life started getting shaky. He didn’t come home as much as he used to. And when he did come home, it was always late and I’d already be in bed. 1 started to get mad. Why didn’t he listen to Mum and just stick to his old job? Why did he take the risk and place the whole family in trouble? Over the years, I stopped waiting for him to come home, and stopped going downstairs to check on him. Now 28, I’ve graduated from college and got a job. Dad’s business has also started to get back on track. Yet the uncomfortable silence between Dad and me went on. Two days before my birthday last year, Dad came home early. On that evening, I helped him carry his bags into his study as usual. When I turned to leave, he asked me to clean his comb. I looked at him for a while, then took the comb and headed to the sink. It was the same comb. After cleaning it, I passed it back to Dad. He looked at it and smiled. But this time, I noticed something different. My dad had aged. He had wrinkles next to his eyes when he smiled, yet his smile was still as heartwarming as before. 4. From the first three paragraphs, we can learn___________. A. the author would study with Dad every evening B. the precious green comb of Dad was made of jade C. the earliest memories with Dad were full of joy D. the author was unwilling to clean the comb for Dad 5. What probably made Dad decide to start his own business? A. He was eager to get everything on track. B. He wanted to keep his family life stable. C. He was laid off and had to make a living. D. He hoped to earn a better life for the family. 6. What emotional changes did the author experience when staying with Dad these years? A. Cheerful→mad→warm. B. Mad→satisfied→warm. C. Satisfied→worried→angry D. Warm→concerned→uncomfortable. 7. Which could be the best title for the text? A. My Dad’s Comb B. Dad’s Wholesale Business C. Changes of My Dad D. My Earliest Memories with Dad C Health organizations such as the UK’s national health services recommend that adults take 10 micrograms, or 400 international units (IU) of vitamin D every day, while the National Institutes of Health advise that most adults take 600 IU, with both bodies cautioning against taking more than 4,000 IU per day. Having too much vitamin D can cause a build-up of calcium (钙) in the blood, leading to symptoms such as nausea and kidney stones. But Patrick J. LaRiccia at the University of Pennsylvania and his colleagues recently found that a daily dose (一剂) of 5,000 IU may reduce the risk of influenza-like symptoms. They wondered whether this higher-than-recommended dosage may also have other positive effects. So the team asked 196 adults to take 5,000 IU of vitamin D3 every day for about nine months. The adults, aged 47 on average, were aware of the dose they were having. The researchers also analyzed the data of more than 1,900 people who weren’t given the 5,000 IU daily dose of vitamin D. However, they were free to take vitamin D supplements if they wished. Towards the end of the study, across this group, the average reported dose was 1,318 IU and the average age was 50. Over 10 months, those on the 5,000 IU dose had a lower risk of being hospitalized due to any cause, and they had to visit the emergency room or be admitted to intensive care less than people in the other group. No participants reported side effects. However, LaRiccia says the team can’t rule out the age difference as a possible cause of these results, with those in the high-dose group potentially avoiding hospital because they were on average three years younger. The nationalities of people in the two groups also differed, with fewer Hispanic and Latino people in the high-dose group, which may have affected the results. “The findings are promising, but the study was relatively small and the study period was too short to monitor any long-term safety issues of such a high daily dose of vitamin D,” says JoAnn Manson at Harvard University. 8. How much vitamin D does National Institutes of Health recommend us to take daily? A. At least 10 IU. B. Less than 400 IU. C. Roughly 600 IU. D. Over 4,000 IU. 9. How did the team carry out the study? A. By explaining the phenomenon. B. By referring to previous data. C. By using supporting examples. D. By comparing and analyzing. 10. How many factors may have affected the results according to LaRiccia? A. One. B. Two. C. Three. D. Four. 11. What is JoAnn Manson’s attitude towards the study? A. Objective. B. Negative. C. Favorable. D. Uncertain. D Hyde Park, one of London’s best parks, spreads itself over about 350 acres of neat gardens, vast wilderness overgrown with grass and splendid trees. As well as being a fantastic green space in the middle of the city, it’s home to a handful of appealing sights, and hosts live concerts and events throughout the year. Hyde Park was created for hunting by Henry VII, who obtained it from the church in 1536. It was enclosed as a deer park and remained a private royal(皇家)hunting ground until James I permitted limited access to the upper-class people. In 1637, Charles I opened the park to the general public. The eastern half of the park is covered with vast lawns(草地), which become superb picnic areas on sunny days. The western half remains in a wild state, with plenty of trees and areas of wild grass. If you’re after somewhere more colorful, head to the Rose Garden, a beautifully landscaped area with flowers year-round. You won’t want to miss the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain either. In the northeast part of the park, you’ll find Speakers’ Corner, where speakers step up to give speeches, discussions and debates on various topics. This is an interesting and unusual place to visit, where you can see people gather to listen, applaud or laugh at different speakers. Speakers’ Corner became famous during the Second World War. Nowadays, it is possible to speak public-ally on any topic, as long as the police consider it lawful. Since 2007, Hyde Park has played host to the annual Winter Wonderland event, which features numerous Christmas-themed markets, along with various rides and attractions, bars and restaurants. It has expanded to include the largest ice rink(溜冰场)in London and live entertainment, and has become one of the largest Christmas events in Europe, having attracted millions of visitors. 12. Who opened the Hyde Park to the general public? A. Henry Ⅶ B. James I C. Charles I D. Charles Ⅱ 13. Why does the author mention Diana? A. To memorize the beautiful princess. B. To introduce a related appealing site. C. To emphasize a relevant court event. D. To reflect the extraordinary landscape. 14. How does the author arrange the passage? A. By examples. B. By comparisons. C. By data and lists. D. By time and space. 15. Where can you probably read the passage? A. A travel brochure. B. A novel collection. C. A geography Textbook. D. He wanted to be the first to wish a happy New Year to his family. He turned up at every door of the house, and shouted the words of “Happy New Year” in an excited voice. After a quick breakfast, he hopped along the street like a happy bird, greeted and repeated the words to those he met. When he came back, his father gave him 50 dollars, saying he could buy whatever he had been wishing for. His face lighted up as he took them. He had wished for a long time to buy some interesting books that he had seen at the bookstore located near the river through the city. He thanked his father and danced out of the house again with a light heart, intending to buy those books. As he ran down the street, he noticed a poor family, the father, the mother, and three children shivering with cold in the winter wind. “I wish you a happy New Year,” cried Edward, as he was happily passing on. The man took a look at the happy boy and shook his head sadly. Edward stopped and said, “It seems that you do not belong to this country.” The man again shook his head, a confused expression flashed over his face, for he could not understand or speak English. But the poor man pointed to his dry mouth, and to the children with hungry looks, as if to say, “These little ones have had nothing to eat for a long time.” Edward quickly realized that these poor people were in distress (贫困). He took out his dollars, and gave them all to the man. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “My dear boy,” said his father, “Here are a dozen of books for you.” ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 1~5 BCCBA 6~10 CBABC 11~15 ABCAB 16~20 CABAC 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2024-2025学年度第一学期期末质量检测 高二英语试题 (考试时间:120分钟 试题满分:150分) 第一部分 听力 (满分 30分) 第一节 (本节有5小题,每小题1.5分,共7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 根据“Jenny 31 Teacher”下文中的“We like cooking at home and make our meals from fresh, seasonal fruit and vegetables. Cooking together gives us a chance to relax and catch up on each other’s days.(我们喜欢在家做饭,用新鲜的时令水果和蔬菜做饭。一起做饭让我们有机会放松和叙旧)”可知,珍妮喜欢和丈夫一起做饭。故选D。 【2题详解】 推理判断题。根据“Mike 49 Chef”下文中的“Sometimes I bring home food from the restaurant where I work.(有时我会从我工作的餐馆带食物回家。)”以及“I know we should eat more fresh fruit and vegetables, but ready meals are so convenient.(我知道我们应该多吃新鲜的水果和蔬菜,但即食食品很方便。)” 根据第一段“Is there any truth behind the saying “You are what you eat”? 4. C Health organizations such as the UK’s national health services recommend that adults take 10 micrograms, or 400 international units (IU) of vitamin D every day, while the National Institutes of Health advise that most adults take 600 IU, with both bodies cautioning against taking more than 4,000 IU per day. A. Objective. B. Negative. C. Favorable. D. Uncertain. C 9. D 10. B 11. (Patrick J. The researchers also analyzed the data of more than 1,900 people who weren’t given the 5,000 IU daily dose of vitamin D.(因此,研究小组要求196名成年人每天服用5000IU维生素D3,持续约九个月。 根据倒数第二段“However, LaRiccia says the team can’t rule out the age difference as a possible cause of these results, with those in the high-dose group potentially avoiding hospital because they were on average three years younger. The nationalities of people in the two groups also differed, with fewer Hispanic and Latino people in the high-dose group, which may have affected the results.(然而,LaRiccia表示,研究小组不能排除年龄差异是造成这些结果的可能原因,高剂量组的人可能会避免去医院,因为他们平均年轻三岁。 根据最后一段““The findings are promising, but the study was relatively small and the study period was too short to monitor any long-term safety issues of such a high daily dose of vitamin D,” says JoAnn Manson at Harvard University.(哈佛大学的乔安·曼森 (JoAnn Manson) 表示:“研究结果令人鼓舞,但研究规模相对较小,研究周期也太短,无法监测每日如此高剂量维生素D的任何长期安全问题。”)” A。 D Hyde Park, one of London’s best parks, spreads itself over about 350 acres of neat gardens, vast wilderness overgrown with grass and splendid trees. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “My dear boy,” said his father, “Here are a dozen of books for you.” ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 He took out his dollars, and gave them all to the man. The man was so moved that he stood there, failing to say any words. A bright smile spread across the man’s face. He smiled back at the father, waved goodbye to the family and went home delightedly. When Edward came home, his father asked what book he had bought. He hung his head a moment, but quickly looked up. “I have bought no books,” he said. “I gave my money to a poor family, who seemed to be badly in need of help. I think I can wait for my books until next New Year.” “My dear boy,” said his father, “Here are a dozen of books for you.” Edward can’t believe it! “I give them to you, more as a reward for your goodness of heart than as a New Year gift. Always be ready to help people around you!” his father added. Holding the books, Edward felt they were the best gift in the world. 词汇激活: 行为类 ①挥手告别:wave goodbye/wave farewell ②购买:buy/purchase ③帮助:help/assist 情绪类 ①感动的:moved/touched ②高兴地:delightedly/in delight/happily 【点睛】【高分句型1】The man was so moved that he stood there, failing to say any words.(使用了so…that… 2】I gave my money to a poor family, who seemed to be badly in need of help.
