Comprehensive teaching and learning objectives:
By the end of this period, the students will have been able to:
1) Learn about the usages of new words, chunks and sentence patterns and try to use them in real language situations to develop language competence;
2) Comprehend the text better to improve thinking quality.

Step 1 Review
Activity 1 Review
Check the answers to the reading comprehension exercises to review the main content of the text.
Step 2 Language Focus
(In this step, the teacher explains some of the new and important language items in the context by offering some examples so that the students could comprehend the text better, and also focus on how to use the language items in specific language situations created by the teacher or doing some exercises such as sentence making and blank-filling exercises to help the students to grasp their usages.)
Activity 2 Learning about the new language items
Learn about the following new language items:
1. “Life is precious. …To a person nothing is more precious than their life, and if they entrust me with that life, how could I refuse that trust, saying I’m cold, hungry, or tired?”
“生命是宝贵的。……对一个人来说,没有什么比他们的生命更加珍贵了,而且如果他们把生命托付给了我,我怎么能拒绝那种信任呢?”
句中their相当于his or her。在现代英语中,人们对诸如 person、 somebody、 anyone这类性别不明的指代,除了宽泛地使用 he or she、 him or her或 his or her外,更多时候会结合语境选用复数概念进行指代,即使用 they/them/their。
1) precious adj. 珍奇的;珍稀的;宝贵的;珍贵的;受珍爱的;被珍惜的
e.g. precious memories/possessions 珍贵的回忆/财物
You’re wasting precious time! 你在浪费宝贵的时间!
2) nothing is + (形容词)比较级 + than… 没有什么比……更加…… (表最高级)
其它比较级与否定词连用,表示最高级意义的方式:(1)否定词+so/as+形容词/副词原级+as;(2)比较级+than+(all) the other+名词复数any other+名词单数any of the other+名词复数anything/anyone else;(3) can not/can never...too...结构。
e.g. To me, nothing can be more important than a healthy body.
对我来说,没有什么比健康的身体更重要。
How beautifully she sings! I have never heard a better voice.
她唱歌多么动听啊!这是我听过的最好听的声音了。
He studies harder than(all) the other students in his class/any other student in his class/any of the other students in his class/anyone else in his class. 在班里他比其他任何学生学习都努力。
You can not be too careful when crossing the street.
你过马路时再怎么小心也不过分。
In my view, health is the most important thing in our daily life.
From my point of view,nothing is more important than health in our daily life.
就我个人而言,我们日常生活中身体健康最重要。
3) 句中their相当于his or her。在现代英语中,人们对诸如 person、 somebody、 anyone这类性别不明的指代,除了宽泛地使用 he or she、 him or her或 his or her外,更多时候会结合语境选用复数概念进行指代,即使用 they/them/their。
e.g. Let’s keep our voices low — someone is taking their (/ his or her) naps in the classroom.
我们说话低声些,有人在教室里午休呢。
If anyone finds my glasses, could they (/ he or she) let me know?

1) see + sb. + doing sth.,动词-ing形式充当宾语补足语,用来补充说明宾语的动作和情况。相同用法的词还有:hear, watch, notice, feel等。

I heard an English song being sung by a little girl when I passed by her room yesterday.
2) faraway adj. 遥远的,主要用作前置定语,修饰名词。
far away短语则不同,除用作状语外,还可作后置定语,对名词进行限定。
e.g. We enjoy his stories of all the faraway countries he has visited.
我们喜欢听他讲所有他去过的遥远国度的故事。
Sam lives far away from his school. Sam住的地方离他的学校很远。
We could hear the sound of water not far away. 我们听得见不远处水的响声。
10. She was more interested in tending patients, publishing medical research on care for women and children…她对照料病人,发表妇幼医护方面的医学论文……更感兴趣。

In grammar, the passive or the passive voice is formed using “be” and the past participle of a verb.
