Mobile phones can take your attention away when you’re trying to focus on something. That’s why the Dutch (荷兰) government banned (禁止) them in classrooms. From January 1st, 2024, Dutch students were not allowed to use their mobile phones in classrooms. Students could use their mobile phones unless they were needed for medical reasons.
Robert is the education minister of the Netherlands. He said that although mobile phones were a big part of our lives, there was no need to have them in the classrooms. “Students need to pay much attention to their study. According to some scientific research, sometimes mobile phones are detrimental. We should try our best to protect students from them,” he said.
The ban has taken place through an agreement between the government education department, schools, and organizations in the Netherlands. If the ban doesn’t work, more laws and rules may be introduced before the summer of 2024.

Mobile phones can take your attention away when you’re trying to focus on something. That’s why the Dutch (荷兰) government banned (禁止) them in classrooms. From January 1st, 2024, Dutch students were not allowed to use their mobile phones in classrooms. Students could use their mobile phones unless they were needed for medical reasons.
Robert is the education minister of the Netherlands. He said that although mobile phones were a big part of our lives, there was no need to have them in the classrooms. “Students need to pay much attention to their study. According to some scientific research, sometimes mobile phones are detrimental. We should try our best to protect students from them,” he said.
The ban has taken place through an agreement between the government education department, schools, and organizations in the Netherlands. If the ban doesn’t work, more laws and rules may be introduced before the summer of 2024.
Finland has also introduced a similar ban recently. This country is widely considered as having one of the best education systems in the world. It is also the birthplace of many important technology companies.
The Netherlands is not the first country to introduce a ban like this. In 2022, Italy took similar steps. France has also had a ban since September 2018. France bans mobile phones from schools for children between 3 and 15 years of age, and China introduced a similar ban in 2021.
