Have you ever done or thought about volunteering before? Volunteering means spending time and effort helping somebody or something. In my case, I’ve volunteered at an animal shelter (收容所) to help feed and walk dogs.
Back in 2021, some friends and I went to an animal shelter outside of Beijing. There, I was able to give food to the animals. There were not only dogs at the shelter, such as foxes and chickens. Our main goal was to help the dogs by giving them walks. Many of the dogs were kept in big cages (笼子) along with other dogs and ate from a big bowl together. I felt a bit sad for the dogs since many of them looked old and needed a bath.
However, I made sure to give one of the dogs a good walk. I remember it was a big black dog with curly hair. The dog was very gentle, but it did not want to walk very far. It was also a bit shy and just wanted to look at the other dogs. Still, when I took out a tennis ball to play fetch (捡球), it really enjoyed it. I liked watching the dog run through a group of ducks trying to get the ball back.

Life is like a journey. None of us can predict the destination (终点) of this journey. During this journey. we will enjoy beautiful scenery and meet bad weather. People have different experiences, but in this journey, we all have to face all kinds of situations. No matter what we experience, we should have a dream and hold it until the end of our journey.
We can’t set our goals too high, which will make us have no time to enjoy ourselves along the way. Every day, we have to move forward in a hurry, just like climbing mountains. When we climb a mountain, there are many higher mountains waiting for us to climb. That way, we may give up our dreams, because it seems impossible for us to reach the top. We should start from own reality (现实) and enjoy the beauty of life. We should not only live for our goals, but also live for ourselves.
Learn to love. During the journey of life, we are not alone. There are many people with us: family, friends, teachers and so on. They give us love and care and we should love and respect them, including strangers. Be nice to others, and the world will be nice to us.
Treat the journey of life calmly and patiently, wait for the flowers to bloom and fall, and enjoy the clouds. The beauty of peace of mind is even more fascinating. A calm heart is like a clear blue sky without dark clouds, like a pool of clear water without any pollution, and like the light on green leaves, giving us hope and courage.
All in all, we should cherish everyone, everything and every scenery we see. Life is too short. Be kind to yourself, live in the present and let life show its beauty, because we only have one life. Please feel the scenery along the way with your heart!
9.According to paragraph 1, what can you infer? ________

Some people are very careful about everything they do. On the other hand, some people are risk-takers — they do things without thinking too much about the results. Teenagers especially tend to (倾向于) take more risks than others. Why is this?
Anna Van Duijvenvoorde, a psychologist at Leiden University in the Netherlands, uses computer games to find out why some people are more impulsive (容易冲动的) than others. In one game, players are asked to click on a balloon on a computer screen. Every time they click, they gets bigger. The bigger the balloon is at the end of the test, the larger their reward will be. But if the balloon gets too big, it’ll explode (爆炸) and the player will get nothing.
Van Duijvenvoorde found that when teens played this game, a part of their brain called the striaturn (纹状体) would become more active. This part of the brain controls our emotional response (情绪反应) to rewards another part of the brain, the prefrontal cortex (前额皮质) helps us control our decision-making process.
It turns out that young people have more active striaturns and less active prefrontal cortexes, which affects their ability to make careful decisions. You might have already guessed that teens tended to pop more balloons during the game than adults — mainly because they are more willing (愿意的) to take risks and don’t take the time to think carefully.
“The teen brain is like a car with a very strong engine (引擎),” Van Duijvenvoorde said, “______”
13.It’s known from the text that risk-takers belong to those who ______.

15.What does the underlined word “they” refer to in the text?
A.players B.balloons C.adults D.teens
16.What do you think Van Duijvenvoorde would say finally?

Are you an “e” person or “i” person? Do you know the differences? In this essay, we will talk about the differences between “e” people and “i” people. Those two kinds of people are very different.
According to a survey, “e” people are more outgoing and active in social relations than “i” people. 17 On the other hand, “i” people prefer to spend time alone or in small groups than communicating with others. When it comes to making friends, “e” people prefer to have a larger circle of friends and build stronger connections with others quickly. 18 They feel more comfortable and relaxed with fewer people around.
19 For example, some behaviors that are considered polite or acceptable by “e” people may be considered impolite by “i” people. For example, “e” people may interrupt (打断) others in conversation, which can make “i” people feel uncomfortable.
20 “i” people may become more outgoing as they practice socializing and get confidence (自信), while “e” people may become less interested in making new friends as they age and only look for relaxation and a quiet “me time”.

Do you know which social Apps Chinese young people use a lot now? Douyin and Kuaishou are certainly the most popular. It is fun for many users to share short videos about their lives on them, while other users have other purposes as well.
A 12-year-old user named Elsa has about 2.7 million fans on Douyin. The girl has shared videos about her dancing studies since last July. One of the videos won her about one million fans, “I feel really glad to share happiness with people by short videos,” said Elsa.
As some videos are about the latest news, a group of users depend on them to get information. To some other users, they have a different purpose. “Because I can’t spend many hours watching a whole video and I’m not a very patient person, I don’t like waiting for a program to end. I prefer to watch short videos of wonderful parts in programs,” said Wang Zhihao.
However, some young Chinese feel bored with some short videos. “Killing time is the main reason for me to watch the short videos, but many are almost the same, so I think it is a waste of time. What’s more, I really don’t like the videos which show strange even dangerous things,” said Wen Nan, another college student.
Recently, something else has happened. Some videos are telling people what products are worth buying, but some short videos even sell bad products. After they buy some products, they may regret soon. So, they should think twice.

45.例文
Nowadays, short videos have become more and more popular in our daily life. Are they good or bad for teenagers? The students have different opinions.
Some students think watching short videos is helpful to teenagers, as it’s a good way to get knowledge as well as relax. However, others disagree. In their eyes, watching short videos is a waste of time. What’s worse, spending too much time on screen may cause poor eyesight.
In my opinion, we can watch short videos, but we had better make a good choice first. We should choose videos that can help improve ourselves. Besides, we need to control the time that we spend on them. Half an hour each day is enough. As long as we use short videos properly, we can not only have fun but also learn something useful from them.
