Robots Dance Yangko at 2025 CCTV Spring Festival Gala
On January 28, 2025, a special performance called YangBOT amazed audiences at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, China’s most-watched TV show. Directed by famous filmmaker Zhang Yimou, the show mixed traditional Chinese yangko dance with modern robot technology.
In the performance, humanoid robots (robots shaped like humans) dressed in colorful costumes danced yangko, a joyful folk dance from northern China often seen during festivals. They spun (旋转) handkerchiefs quickly and made creative group patterns. These robots were developed by Unitree(宇树科技), a Chinese robotics company. This was not Unitree’s first success—in 2021, their robot cows named “Ben Ben” (犇犇) danced as backup for singer Andy Lau.
The robots learned dance moves through AI and used laser navigation (激光导航) to move safely on the uneven stage. Their strong joints (关节) (like knees with 360N·m power) helped them balance perfectly during fast steps. Zhang Yimou explained, “This dance isn’t just fun—it shows how technology can bring new life to traditions.”
Thanks to these innovations (创新), the robots won the hearts of millions. On social media, topics like “Robot Yangko” trended quickly. Young viewers called it “cool,” while older audiences loved its humor and festive spirit.

Reshi completed a 12-page children’s book, Alice and Sparkle, with the help of a chatbot called ChatGPT. A chatbot is a computer program that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to imitate human thinking and writing. The book’s text was produced using it, and Reshi created illustrations (插图) using another AI program, Midjourney, which uses special computation (计算) rules to translate words into images.
When Reshi posted the book online, it became very popular with children. Some people praised Reshi for being clever. However, not everyone was happy. Some artists criticized the book. They said the pictures were of poor quality, and more importantly, the way the pictures were made was a big problem.
Midjourney works by searching through millions of images on the internet. It uses algorithms to find patterns in these images and make new ones. The problem is, Midjourney takes images from artists’ work without asking for permission.
Some companies have already started using AI instead of human workers. For example, an AI robot told jokes at a comedy club instead of a person. The San Francisco Ballet also used AI-created images for advertising a ballet show called The Nutcracker.
Many artists and writers are worried about their jobs. They fear that if AI can create art and writing for less money, people may not pay them for their work.
Josephine, a journalist who makes money from writing, says, “I love writing, but it’s troubling to see people looking for cheaper choices instead of supporting real human writers.”
There is a real concern about protecting the work of artists and writers who could have their creations used by AI programs. The technology industry that develops these tools should include artists in the process of making them.
1.The passage is most likely to be taken from a ________.

D.Midjourney always asks for permission before using artists’ images.
4.What is the main purpose of the passage?
A.To support the use of AI tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney in creative industries.
B.To show the popularity of Reshi’s book Alice and Sparkle among children.

(24-25九年级下·重庆大足·开学考试)It’s common that parents and children disagree with each other. That’s what we call conflicts (冲突). Some of the conflicts are small and easy to end. Others may need parents to take action and help. To someone’s surprise, by solving them together, family conflicts can help children learn important life skills.
Some simple childhood games show how conflict and repair work. For example, in peek-a-boo (躲猫猫), a baby might feel a little unhappy and worried when he can’t see his parent. But when the parent returns, everything is OK. As children grow older, they play games like hide and seek. There are small moments of upset followed by great fun and joy. These games help children prepare for all kinds of problems in the future.
As children grow up, they develop their life skills by working through conflicts. When a conflict is too serious for a child, parents may step in. To set a good example, parents could try to remain cool first— don’t be too excited or angry. Next, they can say some kind and nice things to make children feel better. Now here comes the chance for parents and children to sit down. Then they can have a face-to-face communication. This helps them rebuild the love and trust for each other. In this way, children learn that sometimes things go wrong. But if they deal with them properly, they can always rebuild healthy and strong relationships with others.
A healthy process of going through conflict and repair with their parents promises children’s happiness and social success in the future.

Chinese professor Lyu Zhou said that when he walked around the Bell and Drum Towers, he could find peace in the busy city life. At a square between the Bell Tower and the Drum Towers, you can see people relaxing, cycling and playing games and even celebrating life events.
“The towers were once our meeting places. We used to go on dates there. You could say that the towers have seen our love grow,” said a young couple who were taking wedding photos under the Bell and Drum Towers.
The traveler Marco Polo (1254-1324) wrote about what he saw along the Central Axis back in the Yuan Dynasty in The Travels of Marco Polo: “Up and down the city there are beautiful palaces... and fine houses in great numbers.” And Osvald Siren (1879-1966) from Sweden took many photos in Beijing back in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. (24-25九年级下·重庆·开学考试)①In everyday lives, paper is something we see and use all the time. But have you ever wondered why, although it looks harmless, paper can sometimes cause accidental cuts?
②Scientists have done some researches to uncover the physics behind paper cuts and to find out which types of paper are more likely to hurt our fingers. Three scientists from Denmark have found that 65-micrometer (微米)-thick paper is most likely to cut our skin. They won the Physics Prize for this finding at the 2024 Pineapple Science Award in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, on November 23.
③The scientists tested papers with different thicknesses (from 30 to 220 micrometers) on man-made fingers whose skin is similar to the human skin. The following are what they found.
④For thin paper, the scientists found it couldn’t cut the “fingers”. Instead, it just bent, changing the shape and being no longer straight. And for thicker paper, it left a mark on the fingers but couldn’t break the “skin”.
⑤When they tried the 65-micrometer-thick paper, the scientists found it cut the fingers the most, about once every five tries. The paper used for magazines such as Nature and Science is of a thickness close to this. Common A4 paper is about 100 micrometers thick, which is much safer.
⑥The cutting angle (角度) also made a difference. Pushing the paper straight down onto the fingers didn’t often result in a cut. Pushing the paper at a slanted (倾斜的) angle resulted in more cuts.
⑦According to the scientists, their findings could not only reduce the risk of paper cuts, but also lead to safer paper products. For example, they can avoid using paper that is too sharp or have just the right thickness for cutting, especially when doing hands-on activities. They even created a cheap paper knife, the Papermachete, that can cut through apples and chicken.
1.Which sentence has the same meaning of “bent (bend)” as that in Paragraph 4?
A.She bent his head a little to avoid getting hurt.
B.Suddenly, he swam to a river bend and disappeared.
C.To be fair, he refused to bend the rules for anyone.
D.The little tree bent with the pressure of the heavy snow.
2.What’s the main purpose of the passage?
A.To explain why paper can sometimes cause cuts.
B.To tell people how to avoid getting paper cuts in daily lives.
C.To show why paper is widely used in our everyday lives.
D.To describe the use of different kinds of paper.
3.Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
4.What can be inferred from the passage?
A.The thicker paper people use, the less likely they will get cut.
B.Paper with all thicknesses were tested by the scientists in the researches.
C.The Papermachete can be used to out through apples and chicken.
D.The scientists’ findings may lead to improvements in paper products.

Imagine you are in a dark field at night, surrounded by tiny, twinkling lights. These aren’t stars, but fireflies (萤火虫), tiny insects that have fascinated people for centuries with their magical glow (微光).
Do you know how fireflies make their tails glow? It happens when two chemicals in their own bodies join together and then produce light. But why do fireflies need to make glow in the dark?
Now, imagine you are a firefly looking for someone special in the dark. How would you find Mr. or Ms. Right? Fireflies use their glowing lights to send “hello” messages to each other. Each kind of firefly has its own special ways. The male fireflies send out signs, and the female fireflies answer back in their own special ways. They use their lights as a tool to get to know each other better, so that they can give birth to new fireflies.
________ Imagine you are an adult firefly in the shadows, and a big spider is trying to catch you. What can you do? You turn on your light! It’s like a sign saying, “I taste awful. Do not eat me!”
But in today’s world, fireflies face a new challenge: light pollution. As cities grow and become more brightly lit, it becomes harder for fireflies to communicate using their lights. This can stop fireflies from finding each other and even influence their living situations.
So, next time you see fireflies on a summer night, remember to enjoy their beauty and the amazing way they communicate. Tiehua is a kind of special fireworks that is popular in the folk traditions of Henan and Shanxi provinces. This difficult art has been passed down for over a thousand years. The iron fireworks is a folk art that creates a great breathtaking scene.
At the beginning of the performance, the performers put iron pieces into the furnace (a closed place where a very hot fire is made to burn metal). The red-hot molten iron blows apart into shining sparks (火花), lightening up all the sky. It looks really amazing at night.
On the day of performance, the dragon lantern dancers are often invited to join the show, too. The lantern dance is performed under the molten iron sparks, which is called “Dragon Crossing Fireworks”.
The performance shows business customs, beautiful folk arts and crafts (工艺). All of these have enriched the Chinese folk art, and it’s like a link to the past, helping us keep these traditions alive. (24-25九年级下·重庆·开学考试)Imagine you are in an autonomous vehicle (无人驾驶车) and face this terrible choice: The car must either turn left and hit a person, or turn right and hit many. On top of this “moral dilemma (道德困境)”, if the car doesn’t turn, you might get hurt. What decision would you expect it to make?
In life-and-death situations, should autonomous vehicles put passengers first or pedestrians? Should they prioritize (优先考虑) the greater good or one person’s safety? These have been a central topic for several years. However, there can be no completely perfect solution.
“A moral dilemma is a dilemma; it has no clear solution by design (设计),” wrote Derek Leben, a professor of ethics (伦理学).
When studying these questions of autonomous vehicles, Iyad Rahwan, an MIT scientist, found that people are selfish. “People buying these cars, they want cars that prioritize the passenger,” Rahwan told Science News. “But they want other people’s cars to protect pedestrians instead.”
Autonomous vehicles bring not only moral dilemmas but also other challenges. When there is an accident, who should be responsible for it, the company of the autonomous vehicle, or the “driver”?
In July, a self-driving taxi by Baidu hit a pedestrian in Wuhan, Hubei, who ran a red light. Baidu worked with the police and took the pedestrian to the hospital. In another accident in April in Seattle, US, the responsibility fell on the “driver” since the “driver” was on his phone.
The situations of different accidents caused by autonomous vehicles are so complicated (复杂的) that “now there are no clear rules”, Ji Xuehong, a researcher from North China University of Technology.

(24-25九年级下·重庆九龙坡·开学考试)Have you heard of mental toughness? Often talked about in relation to sports, mental toughness is characterized by the ability to always perform well under stress. Research has shown that it is also a useful quality (品质) for students, with benefits (n. 益处) for school achievement, classroom behavior, and relationships with others.
However, mental toughness is often misunderstood (误会). It is sometimes related to hiding your feelings, or not acknowledging (承认) your weaknesses, which can harm (v. 损害) student well-being, as well as school performance and socializing.
So, what actually is mental toughness, and how can it be developed in schools?
Students who show mental toughness are aware of and able to control their emotions. This helps them to think clearly under stress, on the day of exams for example. One way to help with this is to encourage students to talk to themselves in a positive and helpful way. Students may be upset if they don’t do as well on a task as they hoped. By asking themselves questions, such as “What would I do differently next time?”, they can stop thinking about the negatives (负面事物) and direct their attention towards improving in the future.
Mental toughness means asking for help. Many students are too embarrassed to do it, for fear they would show weakness by acknowledging they don’t understand something. However, others actually consider it a positive quality. Recognizing when they are experiencing difficulties takes courage for students, but it also shows a willingness to learn and get better.
Mental toughness is also about being open to learning, not being a know-it-all. Over time, the students who grow the most are those who like to explore things, looking for answers in books, online, or by paying attention to what’s happening around them. They also work together, helping each other with challenges.
What’s more, mental toughness involves having a strong sense of self-belief and confidence in one’s abilities. Mentally tough students have a clear idea of their goals, and their wills (n. 意志) to achieve them are unwavering. They are not easily influenced by others’ opinions and are willing to step outside of their comfort zone (舒适圈) to reach their goals.
To create mentally tough students and classrooms, it is important for teachers themselves to be role models (榜样). Teachers can develop their mental toughness in much the same way as students. In order to develop mental toughness, both students and teachers should realize that it is about having positive behaviors and attitudes that help them learn and improve.
1.What misunderstandings about mental toughness does the writer mention in the passage?
①Hiding feeling. ②Not acknowledging weaknesses.
③Performing well under stress. ④Being role models.
A.①③ B.②④ C.①② D.③④
2.According to the passage, what is mental toughness?
A.It is a quality that helps students get achievements but may break relationships with others.
B.It is the ability to never become upset, stressed or negative.
C.It includes being able to ask for help and never stopping learning.
D.It means always keeping trying through one’s own effort in the comfort zone.

A.Unshakable. B.Unacceptable. C.Unreasonable. D.Unanswerable.

A.newspaper B.science fiction C.storybook D.travel guide
2.What does the underlined word “algorithms” mean in Paragraph 3?
A.Creative ideas. B.Millions of pictures. C.Useful tools. D.Computation rules.

B.Midjourney uses algorithms to search images from the internet to create new ones.
C.Midjourney was used by Reshi to write the text of Alice and Sparkle.
D.Midjourney always asks for permission before using artists’ images.

Lin and her 14-year-old cousin were enjoying a city walk along the Beijing Central Axis (中轴线). On this walk, they saw most of the old city buildings of Beijing, like the Forbidden City and the Bell and Drum Towers.
Since the show “Glory Is Back! Beijing (《登场了!北京中轴线》)” was shown in July, people like Lin traveled on foot to know the axis better themselves.
Dating back to the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), the 7. 8-kilometer-long Beijing Central Axis starts with Yongdingmen Gate in the south and ends with the Bell and Drum Towers in the north. It matches Forbidden City and the markets at the Bell and Drum Towers area. This way of city planning is described as “court (宫廷) in the front, market in the back”. Other buildings like the Imperial Ancestral Temple (太庙) stands in the east and the Alter of Land and Grain (社稷坛) lies on the west side of the axis.

And think about how you can help reduce light pollution, so these tiny creatures can continue to light up the night sky. Their story is a reminder of the wonders of nature and the important role even the smallest creatures play in our world.

Millions of foreigners like Baobaoxiong are visiting China and posting their travel videos. The visa-free transit policy (过境免签政策) plays an important role in this fashion. Travelers from 54 countries can stay in China for up to six days without a visa as long as they have a travel document (文件) and a connecting ticket (联运机票) to leave.
The visa-free transit policy started in 2013. Back then, travelers were allowed to stay for 72 hours in seven different big cities in China. Now, travelers can stay for 144 hours in 41 places across 19 provinces. It has attracted (吸引) more travelers to China.

C.It includes being able to ask for help and never stopping learning.
D.It means always keeping trying through one’s own effort in the comfort zone.
