About 38,500 kinds of animals in the world are in danger. Now, you can learn about them and help them by playing a card game.
Jackson Mann is a 15-year-old boy. He is very interested in protecting wild animals in danger around the world. He has created a card game, SOS: Save Our Species (物种). His purpose is to educate people about species that are in danger.
Jackson had the idea for the game on a trip to Costa Rica, Central America. “During our trip, we saw lots of wild animals and played lots of card games,” said Jackson. “I found that many kids there played football cards. So I thought if they played wildlife cards as well, they and their parents could pay attention to the important problem.”
In the game, players need to collect endangered species and match them with their right habitats (栖息地). If the species are more endangered, players can get more points. The game finishes when there are no more cards. And the player with the most points wins the game.
Jackson’s favorite species is the African wild dog, which he saw during a trip. There are fewer than 1,500 of the dogs left in the world. “We had a four-day trip and didn’t see any wild dogs. On the last day — my birthday — we were the only visitors to see them,” Jackson said. “To protect them, I have added a wild dog card to my game.”
Now Jackson is planning to create other versions (版本) of the game so he can call on more people to look after endangered species. All the money raised by Jackson’s game will go to wildlife charities Since July 8th, more than 400 games have been sold. Until now, he has raised more than 11,700 pounds.

When people meet the “Princess of Xiaohe” (小河公主), a mummy (木乃伊) found in Xinjiang, they can’t help wondering how beautiful the woman must have been when she was alive.
Because of the local natural conditions that have been ideal for preservation (保存), her body has been well protected and even her hair can be seen clearly, although she was buried more than 3,800 years ago.
What’s more, her face looks like a Western one. This has made many people believe the ancestors of the Tarim Basin (塔里木盆地) people moved here from somewhere else.
However, a study shows that they were locals. The researchers found that there was no big population movement in the Tarim Basin at that time. And the ancient Tarim Basin people were a separated (分离的) group and refused to marry with other groups. “The difficult environment of the Tarim Basin might have stopped them from communicating with other groups,” a researcher said.
Even though they were separated from others, it’s clear that the ancient Tarim Basin people knew different technologies and cultures outside the Tarim Basin. They made cheese from milk in a special way, perhaps learned from people living in Altay (阿勒泰). They also grew some crops (庄稼), which were first planted in eastern and northern China. “It has shown that Xinjiang has been a center of trade and cultural exchanges since ancient times,” the researcher added.
The ancient Tarim Basin people also developed their own culture. For example, when a person died, his body was put in a boat-shaped wooden box. The box was covered with cow skins and marked by wooden sticks. It remains a mystery why people living near the desert had such an unusual tradition.
7. What does the underlined part “been ideal for” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A Been similar to. B. Been perfect for. C. Been different from.
8. Why did many people believe the ancient Tarim Basin people moved here from somewhere else?
A. The “princess” has a very foreign look.
B. They had a habit of moving around.
C. The mummy was found in a foreign place.
9. What do we know about the ancient Tarim Basin people?
A. They invented many technologies.
B. Other groups refused to marry with their group.
C. Local difficult conditions might make them more separated.
10. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A. Living conditions near desert areas.
B. An example of their special culture.
C. How the locals remember the dead.

If you’re looking for a way to help you pay your attention to your tasks. the Pomodoro Technique can be helpful.
The Pomodoro Technique is a popular way of time management. It was created in the late 1980s by Francesco Cirillo. At that time, Francesco was a college student. He had difficulty in focusing on his studies. Then he found a tomato-shaped kitchen timer and used it to help him manage his time. That was how the Pomodoro Technique was born. Pomodoro means tomato in Italian.
Andy is a businessman. In the past, he had much work to do but he didn’t know how to manage his time well. One day, he learnt about the Pomodoro Technique from a book and then tried it. He found it very useful. Now, let’s see how Andy used it.
First Andy started his day with a list of tasks to do. He also added how much time he would need to complete each task on the list. The big tasks were divided into several smaller ones. Then, he set a 25-minute timer and worked on his tasks. When his timer went off, he got one “pomodoro”. Then he enjoyed a break for five minutes. After getting four “pomodoros”, he had a 15-30 minutes’ break.
With the help of the Pomodoro Technique, Andy finished his tasks one by one. He can manage his time and do his work well now. He no longer has so much stress. The more “pomodoros” he gets, the happier he feels.
Time management is of great importance for us. It helps us complete tasks more effectively (高效地) and reduces stress. By planning our time well, we can balance our studies and life, which makes us happier and improves our quality of life. If you have trouble managing your time, why not try the Pomodoro Technique?

“it sounds strange, there’s a science behind the act of tree-hugging.” 故填Although/Though。
故填be explained。
根据“He was pointed out by ... American scientist Edward Wilson in 1984.” 故填an。
“prefer ... to ...” 故填to。
根据“It’s a hormone controls our feelings.” 故填which/that。
“it is + 形容词 + to do sth.” 故填to keep。

First, Andy started his day with a list of tasks to do.
