Back Scratcher (挠背器/者) If you don’t want to buy a cheap back scratcher, you might want to hire someone to do it for you. B Guardian Angels are people who travel on the New York subways and protect other passengers from criminals (罪犯). They are volunteers: they don’t get paid anything to do this job. The Guardian Angels would never have appeared without a young man named Curtis Sliwa. Forty-three years ago, if you’d wanted to travel home late at night on the New York subway, you wouldn’t have felt very safe. Luckily, on February 13, 1979, at 3:00 a. m. , the first safety patrol (巡逻)—called The Team—went into action. Curtis Sliwa and his friend Don Chin began to cleanup crime on one of New York’s toughest subway lines, the Number 4 train. However, this was not a job for two, but a job for 13, so thirteen brave people walked into the last car of the Number 4 subway line in New York City—the “Mugger’s Express”. If they saw a danger of violence (暴力), they stopped it, using non-violent means. The group became known as the “Magnificent 13”. The Magnificent 13 soon went from thirteen members to hundreds and they changed their name to the Guardian Angels Safety Patrol (GASP). At first, GASP faced opposition from the police, but they had the strong support of the public. Today, the Guardian Angels can be found all over the US. If you travel by subway, you will see them wearing red hats and white T-shirts. Although Guardian Angels are not armed, if they’re present, a criminal will think twice before committing a crime. The Guardian Angels also train young people to join them in their fight against crime. They believe that if they train groups of volunteers to patrol dangerous areas in New York, the city will be safer for everybody. “If we had more volunteers, we would be able to reduce the problems many cities face: violence, crime, and drugs. ” They have also started after-school training programs inside high schools and community centers. If young people visit the Guardian Angels Headquarters (总部), volunteers will talk to them about their work and will then guide them through the Times Square area. It’s fun. It’s safe and meaningful! 24. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about? A. The changes brought by the Magnificent 13. B. The birth of the Guardian Angels Safety Patrol. C. The subway lines that the Guardian Angels patrolled. D. The reason why Curtis Sliwa wanted to stop subway crime. 25. What can we learn from the passage? A. The police influenced the public’s opinions about GASP. B. Volunteers play an active role in reducing crime in New York. C. The Magnificent 13 put an end to crime on the Mugger’s Express. D. The Guardian Angels sometimes turn to violence to keep passengers safe. 26. What can young people do at the Guardian Angels Headquarters? A. Talk to the leader of GASP. B. Take part in training programs. C. Carry out safety patrols with guides. D. Get educated about the Guardian Angels’work. 27. What is the author’s purpose in writing the passage? A. To publicize a social service group. B. To call attention to public safety concerns. C. To introduce Curtis Sliwa’s great contributions. D. To present new ways to reduce crime in society. C “Nearly 2.5 billion people worldwide will be living with some degree of hearing loss by 2050. At least 700 million of those people will require access to ear and hearing care and other rehabilitation (康复) services unless action is taken. Untreated hearing loss can have a destructive impact on people’s ability to communicate, to study and to earn a living. It can also impact on people’s mental health and their ability to maintain relationships,” said Dr Tedros, WHO Director-General. The report, launched ahead of World Hearing Day on 3 March, stressed the need to rapidly step up efforts to prevent and solve hearing loss by investing (投资) and expanding access to ear and hearing care services. Investment in ear and hearing care has been shown to be worth it. Lack of accurate information about ear diseases and hearing loss often keeps people from accessing care for these conditions. Even among health-care providers, there’s often a lack of knowledge about prevention, early identification and management of hearing loss and ear diseases, preventing their ability to provide the care required. In children, almost 60%of hearing loss can be prevented through measures, such as immunization (免疫接种) for prevention and early management. , In adults, noise control and safe listening together with good ear health can help maintain good hearing and reduce the potential for hearing loss. Identification is the first step in dealing with hearing loss. Clinical screening at strategic points in life ensures that any loss of hearing and ear diseases can be identified as early as possible. Once checked, early prevention is the key. Medical and surgical treatment can cure most ear diseases, potentially reversing (逆转) the associated hearing loss. However, where hearing loss is irreversible, rehabilitation can ensure that those affected avoid the negative effects of hearing loss. 28. What can we learn from Dr Tedros’ words? A. Hearing loss only influences people’s physical health. B. Nearly 2.5 billion people are suffering from hearing loss. C. Untreated hearing loss can affect people’s daily life seriously. D. Nearly 700 million people can have access to hearing care now. 29. Why are health-care providers mentioned in paragraph 3? A. To stress the importance of doctors and nurses. B. To show the absence of awareness about prevention. C. To call on people to respect them. D. To introduce the topic of hearing loss. 30. What can be concluded from the last two paragraphs? A. Rehabilitation services can reverse hearing loss. B. Most hearing loss in children can be cured. C. It is important to prevent hearing loss and ear diseases early. D. Few ear diseases can be cured by medical and surgical treatment. 31. What’s the best title of the text? A. WHO Invests More in Hearing Loss B. Hearing Loss Prevention Counts C. Be Aware of the Impact of Hearing Loss D. Children Suffer Hearing Loss D When Kyle D’Costa and his wife met Rio, a nine-month-old shih tzu (西施犬), in 2021, “it was love at first sight. “The new couple soon added a Lhasa Apso (拉萨犬) and rented a bigger flat to give the animals ”more space“. With rising incomes comes increased pet-ownership, especially among young professionals who tend 10 put off marriage and parenthood and to be extremely willing to enjoy the company of a dog. It is only a matter of time before marriage websites include a ”pet-friendly“ option. As keeping pets becomes increasingly popular, so do those working in the industry. “Being in this trade was despised just five years ago,” says Chinmay, a 30-ycar-old dog trainer in Thane, Mumbai. “How will you find a girlfriend?” he recalls his relatives asking him. But dog trainers in Mumbai can these days earn 2,400 rupees (S30) an hour — more than twice as much as piano teachers. Chinmay is now happily married to one of his customers. Current pet-industry players are prepared and new ones stepping in. Nestle, the world’s biggest food company, Inst year bought into Purina Petcare, an Indian pet-food business. Emami, an Indian company, targeting daily goods, offers medicines for pets. Euromonitor International, a market-research company, thinks India’s pet-food industry is worth 480 million dollars and will grow to $1.2 billion by 2025. 32. Three years ago I worked for a few weeks as a doctor in a new dental clinic (牙科诊所) at Victor Harbor, to the south of Adelaide and an hour further away than my usual workplace. My first day there was a rush driving to the new clinic and getting used to the clinical environment. As it was all new to me, I took off my gold rings: my wedding ring, and one that was an anniversary (周年纪念日) gift from my husband. I put them in a tissue (纸巾) and placed them beside my computer. During my lunch break, I noticed the tissue and thought that it did not look very clean and threw it into the rubbish bin. I went about my work and my day went well; I met new patients and felt that I had been productive. At the very first day at the clinic, I did a good job, busy but fruitful. So I felt more than proud. When it was time to get off work, I changed my clothes and went out of the clinic, thinking nothing of the ring. Driving home at the end of the day, just moments before I reached my house, I noticed that my rings were missing. I felt the heat in my body rise, my face burning red. I felt sick to my stomach. I spent an hour or so making calls, trying to find my rings. The first people I called were my manager and clinical leader and they gave me a few phone numbers for cleaners. I got in touch with a lady who managed the cleaning services for the clinic, and she told me that the bins had already been collected. I knew nothing could be done now. I had lost my rings. It mattered much to me and now as if I lost a precious thing and my feelings were beyond words. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 But about two hours later, I received an amazing phone call. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Three days later, I finally got a chance to thank the cleaner face to face. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 湖南师大附中2024—2025学年度高一第二学期入学考试 英语 时量:120分钟 满分:150分 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 做题时,先将答案标在试卷上。录音内容结束后,你将有两分钟的时间将试卷上的答案转涂到答题卡上。 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。 例:How much is the shirt? ? B The birth of the Guardian Angels Safety Patrol. C. It is a choice: spending 15 or 20 seconds now dealing with the problem or spending 20 to 30 minutes later. ____37____ A few minutes spent in cleaning a room each day can make “heavy” cleaning much easier. Mistake Number 2: Starting in the Wrong Place in a Room ____38____ Throw them away or return them to their proper place. In this way, you won’t need to take time to clean around them. ____39____ If you start by cleaning the floor and then move on to the top, you’ll have to clean the floor again once the dust settles. Mistake Number 3: Using Wrong Cleaning Products Using a cleaning product that isn’t strong enough to do the job can mean you will have leftover (残余的) dirt and the task will have to be repeated. ____40____ Checking labels (标签) can not only save time, but also help save money. F 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了三个清洁房间的错误以及建议做出的改变。 【36题详解】 根据上文“Cleaning your home may not be your favorite activity of the week, but it is necessary. To help you get a bit more organized, here are the top three cleaning mistakes that you are probably making.(打扫房间可能不是你一周中最喜欢的活动,但却是必要的。为了帮助你更有条理,这里列出了你最容易犯的三个清洁错误)”以及后文“You’ll get the job done more quickly and have more time to enjoy your clean home.(你会更快地完成工作,有更多的时间来享受你干净的家)”可知,前文指出列出了可能犯的三个清洁错误,后文说会更快完成工作并有更多时间享受干净的家,所以这里是说对通常的清洁方式做出一些改变。故B选项“改变一下你通常打扫房间的方式”符合语境,故选B。 【37题详解】 根据上文“Do you wipe up the jelly (果酱) that just hit the floor right away, or leave it for a couple of days? It is a choice: spending 15 or 20 seconds now dealing with the problem or spending 20 to 30 minutes later.(刚落到地板上的果冻是马上擦干净,还是放上几天? 【39题详解】 根据后文“If you start by cleaning the floor and then move on to the top, you’ll have to clean the floor again once the dust settles.(如果你从清洁地板开始,然后移动到顶部,你将不得不在灰尘沉淀后再次清洁地板)”可知,后文说如果先清洁地板再清洁上面,灰尘落下后又得清洁地板,所以这里是说清洁时要从房间顶部开始往下进行,故G选项“当准备打扫时,从房间的顶部开始,然后往下打扫”符合语境,故选G。 【40题详解】 根据上文“Using a cleaning product that isn’t strong enough to do the job can mean you will have leftover (残余的) dirt and the task will have to be repeated.(使用强度不够的清洁产品可能意味着你会有剩余的污垢,并且必须重复这项任务)”以及后文“Checking labels (标签) can not only save time, but also help save money.(检查标签不仅可以节省时间,还可以帮助节省金钱)”可知,该段讲使用错误的清洁产品这个错误,后面提到检查标签不仅省时还省钱,所以这里说要仔细阅读标签并按照说明操作以获得最佳效果,故F选项“仔细阅读标签,并按照说明使用,以获得最佳效果”符合语境,故选F。 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 “Mom, will you read me this book?” my son, Max, shouted from his bedroom. “Yes, just let me get your sisters settled,” I ____41____. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文: But about two hours later, I received an amazing phone call. The cleaner had gone through the bins and found my rings! I was so thankful to her, someone who had taken the trouble to go through the bins—which is not a pleasant task—to find my priceless ring. I worked at that clinic the following day, so I bought chocolates to thank this wonderful person. On arriving the clinic, my manager gave the ring to me. Unfortunately, I did not get to meet the cleaner as she was at work elsewhere that day. Three days later, I finally got a chance to thank the cleaner face to face. After a tiring day, I was about to leave as usual when I met a cleaner by accident, who came to collect the bins at the clinic. With much curiosity, I quickly came up to her, and asked whether she was the cleaner who had found my rings. The cleaner, wearing dirty overalls, stood in front of me and said yes. Excited and relieved, I expressed my deep gratitude to her again and again. She just told me it was not a big deal. Finally, she left, wearing a bright smile on her face. And that smile would stay in my memory forever. 词汇激活 行为类 ①不辞劳苦:take the trouble/spare no pains ②到达:arrive/reach ③正要做某事:be about to do/be on the point of doing 情绪类 ①感激的:thankful/grateful ②兴奋:excited/thrilled 【点睛】【高分句型1】I was so thankful to her, someone who had taken the trouble to go through the bins—which is not a pleasant task—to find my priceless ring.(运用了who引导的定语从句和which引导的定语从句) 【高分句型2】I worked at that clinic the following day, so I bought chocolates to thank this wonderful person.(运用了so连接的并列句表因果) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$null
