B Fashion inspired by traditional Chinese culture is experiencing revived global interest, with designers and their collections increasingly impressing fashion show audiences. At China-France Fashion Week, held at the China Cultural Center in Paris, designers showed 30 outfits (服装), each presenting the cultural heritage of Quanzhou, a coastal city in East China’s Fujian province, which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2021. “The event promoted a dialogue between tradition and modernity, Eastern and Western aesthetics (美学),” says designer Meng Yueming, 33. Borrowing elements (元素) of the city’s heritage, including zanhua, the traditional dress of Hui’an women, local tea culture, and architecture, Meng mixed traditional and modern elements into his designs. Describing the show as “fantastic”, Isabelle Lawson, executive director of the French International Art Salon, says it was a “brilliant” idea for the designers to transform Quanzhou’s landmarks and architecture into the designs. The week was designed to deepen China-France cultural exchange and strengthen cooperation in the cultural and creative industries between China and France. “Before this show, my understanding of traditional culture was superficial, but when I dug deeper, I found a treasure in front of me to explore,” Meng says, adding that he feels that using Chinese elements is important for native designers and companies to go global. Meng’s experience highlights how an increasing number of designers are drawing on their heritage and cultural traditions while celebrating their own cultural identity. For Meng, it is good time for Chinese designers to find their voice on the global stage, and to show how rich and graceful. Chinese-style can be today. 24. What was special about the 30 outfits? A. They brought about a change in fashion. B. They were inspired by modern western fashion. C. They included elements of Chinese culture in the design. D. D. Balanced. 27. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. Chinese Designers: A Voice in Fashion B. Celebrating Cultural Diversity Through Fashion Show C. Published in the journal Neuron by Cho and his team, the research shows how the team used mice to study the pathways between the area of the brain that processes a specific sound and the area responsible for emotional memories. In the first part of the experiment the team played high-pitched (高音的) and low-pitched sounds to mice, both with a small electric shock to their feet. They noticed when the high-pitched sound was later played on its own, the mice became still with fear; no such behavior was seen when the low-pitched sound was played. The team found that when mice were repeatedly given high-pitched sounds without the shocks they lost their fear — a process known as fear extinction. “Fear extinction is a therapy (疗法) used in treating post-traumatic stress disorder,” said Cho. But he said, “after therapy, for example two weeks, the fear returns. Fear extinction is not an eraser of fear memory. It just hides the fear memory for a short time.” But the team later discovered that using a method called optogenetics, they could truly erase the fear memories. They introduced specific genes (基因) into the brain cells (细胞) of the mice. These genes made the cells react to light, allowing researchers to control them. When the mice, who had developed the fear of the high-pitched sound, were in the low-frequency light, it weakened the connections in their brain related to that sound. As a result, the mice no longer appeared fearful when they heard the high-pitched sound, and the fear didn’t return. Peter Giese, a professor of mental health science, said it was too soon to think of using this research to help those with mental disorders, saying it would raise ethical (伦理的) concerns to use such methods on people. “Exactly how this can be applied to humans is a little bit unclear to me,” he said. Nevertheless, Giese said the study was a big advance. “This is a true erasure of the memory,” he said. 32. What did the first part of the experiment focus on? A. The process of how memories are formed. B. The cause of the mice’s emotional change. C. The role of electric shock in shaping mice’s behavior. D. The connections between sounds and emotional memory. 33. What can be concluded about fear extinction? A. It can help remove fear memory. B. It is not an effective long-term treatment. C. It may improve other emotional memories. D. It might be replaced by a genetic method soon. 34. What is paragraph 4 mainly about? A. The discovery of a new gene that controls fear. B. The use of optogenetics to remove fear memories. C The introduction of light in the newly-found genetic method. D. The value of the findings on sound processing and fear erasure. 35. What is Peter Giese’s attitude toward the application of optogenetics to humans? A. Cautious. B. Uninterested. C. Appreciative. D. Disapproving. Being able to improve your organizational skills will help you not only get more done but also to have less stress. Also, I find that no two days are the same and this keeps my interest high. Our work varies greatly from animal rescues to road traffic accidents. Just about every emergency situation you could think of. The only real complaint I have about my job at present would have to be the pay. I've been a fire fighter since I was eighteen, which is 26 years now, and I earn 21,000 pounds. This is less than the starting salary of a police officer in many forces. Luckily there very good holiday. Arrangements and excellent retirement benefits and you might expect, health care service is very good and we all take the issues of personal fitness extremely seriously. D They were created by Chinese and French designers together. 25. What was the aim of the Fashion Week? A. To promote cross-cultural communication. B. To strengthen a sense of cultural identity. C. To show designers’ wonderful collections. D. To introduce Chinese traditional dress to the world. 26. Which is closest in meaning to “superficial” in paragraph 5? A. Narrow. B. Unique. C. Detailed. D. Balanced. 27. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. Chinese Designers: A Voice in Fashion B. Celebrating Cultural Diversity Through Fashion Show C. Chinese Elements Shine on the Global Fashion Stage D. Fashion Changes: From Traditional to Modern Elements 【答案】24. C 25. A 26. A 27. 根据第一段“At China-France Fashion Week, held at the China Cultural Center in Paris, designers showed 30 outfits (服装), each presenting the cultural heritage of Quanzhou, a coastal city in East China’s Fujian province, which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2021. (在巴黎中国文化中心举行的中法时装周上,设计师们展示了30套服装,每一套都展示了泉州的文化遗产。泉州是中国东部福建省的一个沿海城市,于2021年被联合国教科文组织列为世界遗产。)”可知每一套都展示了泉州的文化遗产,说明这30套衣服在设计中加入了中国文化的元素。故选C。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“The week was designed to deepen China-France cultural exchange and strengthen cooperation in the cultural and creative industries between China and France. (该活动旨在深化中法文化交流,加强中法文化创意产业合作。)”可知时装周的目的是深化中法文化交流,也就是促进跨文化交流。故选A。 根据划线词下文“but when I dug deeper, I found a treasure in front of me to explore (但当我深入挖掘时,我发现面前有一块宝藏可以探索。)” 通读全文,尤其第一段“Fashion inspired by traditional Chinese culture is experiencing revived global interest, with designers and their collections increasingly impressing fashion show audiences. At China-France Fashion Week, held at the China Cultural Center in Paris, designers showed 30 outfits (服装), each presenting the cultural heritage of Quanzhou, a coastal city in East China’s Fujian province, which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2021. C。 C If you’re a boat lover, enjoy being on the water and are searching for the perfect mix of performance, eco-friendliness and advanced technology, this electric wake boat might just be the thing you’ve been looking for. C. The introduction of light in the newly-found genetic method. D. The value of the findings on sound processing and fear erasure. 35. What is Peter Giese’s attitude toward the application of optogenetics to humans? A. Cautious. B. Uninterested. C. Appreciative. D. Disapproving. D 33. B 34. B 35. 根据文章第二段“They noticed when the high-pitched sound was later played on its own, the mice became still with fear; no such behavior was seen when the low-pitched sound was played.(他们注意到,当这种高音调的声音随后单独播放时,老鼠因恐惧而变得安静;当播放低音调的声音时,没有看到这种行为。)” 根据文章第三段“But he said, “after therapy, for example two weeks, the fear returns. Fear extinction is not an eraser of fear memory. It just hides the fear memory for a short time.”(但他说,“治疗后,比如两周后,恐惧又回来了。恐惧的消失并不能抹去恐惧的记忆。它只是在短时间内隐藏了恐惧记忆。”)”可知,恐惧消失并不能抹去恐惧的记忆,由此可推知,恐惧消失不是一个有效的长期的治疗方法,故选B项。 【34题详解】 主旨大意题。根据文章第四段“But the team later discovered that using a method called optogenetics, they could truly erase the fear memories.(但研究小组后来发现,使用一种称为光遗传学的方法,他们可以真正消除恐惧记忆。)” 根据文章最后一段“Peter Giese, a professor of mental health science, said it was too soon to think of using this research to help those with mental disorders, saying it would raise ethical (伦理的) concerns to use such methods on people.(心理健康科学教授Peter Giese说,现在考虑用这项研究来帮助那些有精神障碍的人还为时过早,他说,在人类身上使用这种方法会引起伦理上的担忧。)”以及“Nevertheless, Giese said the study was a big advance.(无论如何,Giese表示这项研究是一个很大的进步)”可知,Peter Giese认为研究是很大的进步,同时也提出担忧,由此可推知,Peter Giese对光遗传学在人类中的应用持谨慎的态度,故选A项。 Being able to improve your organizational skills will help you not only get more done but also to have less stress.
