Cecilia Blomdahl is nothing less than a social media star, with nearly 4. 7 million followers. Her most popular TikTok video of Svalbard, a Norwegian island near the North Pole, has 3.7 million views.
Originally from Sweden, Cecilia moved to Svalbard in 2015. Today, she lives in a small house outside Longyearbyen, the world’s northernmost town, with her husband Christ offer and their dog Grim.
Her social media journey began when she started posting content online about everyday life in Svalbard. She says, “When I first moved to Svalbard, I didn’t even own a camera and had no interest in photography. I bought my first drone (无人机) after a few months, mainly because it seemed fun. That was my starting point for content creation.” She was immediately attracted by the views of Svalbard from above, such as walruses (海象) floating on blocks of ice.
Cecilia gained a small following at the beginning by posting photos of Svalbard, but it really took off thanks to one TikTok video. She says, “One day during the polar night, I was walking Grim with Christoffer. It was 3 p. m. with northern lights dancing above us. I found what seemed to be polar bear tracks, so I made a short TikTok video and went to bed.” The next day, she woke up to find 600,000 views and thousands of new followers. That TikTok video became popular, attracting over half a million followers within just a week. From that point, she treated posting online like a job, putting her all into it.
“I think the fact that Svalbard is fairly unknown makes people curious,” she explains. “It’s an exciting place. Every day feels like an adventure. Although I had planned to stay only for a few months, I was attracted by its beauty and eventually fell in love with its way of life.”
What makes Svalbard exciting, however, also makes it difficult at times. The seasons are extreme, with three months of complete darkness during the polar night and four months of endless daylight during the polar day. But she will continue her life in Svalbard.
4. What is Cecilia Blomdahl famous for on social media?
A. Her adventure stories. B. Her photography skills.
C. Her videos about Svalbard. D. Her life on a Norwegian island.
5. What caused Cecilia’s social media following to grow significantly?
A. Photos of Svalbard.
B. A video of the polar night.
C. A video of polar bear tracks.
D. Photos of walruses on ice.
6. What does the popularity of Cecila’s TikTok video suggest?
A. Her video-making skills were really excellent.
B. People were curious about the life in Svalbard.
C. Her bravery on a lonely island impressed people.
D. People were dying to catch the polar bear.
7. What can we infer about Cecilia from the last two paragraphs?
A. She had planned to stay in Svalbard longer.
B. She found life in Svalbard easy.
C. Her followers brought her a lot of trouble.
D. Her love for Svalbard makes her brave difficulties.

Past research has shown the negative effects of too much sugar intake on health, which has informed recommendations to limit consumption of “free” or added sugar to less than 10% of a person’s daily caloric intake.
Still researchers in China and the United States felt that before developing detailed policies for sugar restriction, the quality of existing evidence needs to be comprehensively evaluated, according to a study published in the journal The BMJ.
In a big study that looked at 73 reviews and 8,601 smaller studies, eating a lot of added sugar was linked to a much higher chance of 45 bad health problems, including diabetes (糖尿病), obesity, high blood pressure, heart attack, cancer, depression, and early death.
Free sugars are those added during the processing of foods, packaged as table sugar, and naturally occurring in honey, fruit juice, vegetable juice and similar products in which the cellular (细胞的) structure of the food has been broken down, according to the FDA. This category does not include sugars naturally occurring in dairy or structurally whole fruits and vegetables.
“Whole food carbohydrates (碳水化合物) take longer to break down into simple sugars,” said Dr. Maya Adam, a professor at Stanford University School of Medicine. “This means that whole grains don’t cause the same increases in blood sugar that we experience when we eat simple sugars. Blood sugar increases are the basic cause of health problems in the long run.”
The findings suggest people should circumscribe free sugar intake to less than 25 grams per day. There are some changes you can make. Be aware of what you’re putting in your body by reading nutrition labels when shopping — even the ones on foods you might not think of as sweet, such as bread and yogurts. These foods usually have lots of added sugar, and it adds up, Adam said.
Cooking and baking at home more often is one of the best ways to reduce sugar intake, said Brooke Aggarwal, a professor at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Getting enough good-quality sleep on a regular basis would also help “as we tend to choose foods higher in sugar when we’re tired,” she added.
All in all, we should cut back on our consumption of added sugar to less than 10% of a person’s daily caloric intake. After all, eating too much “free sugar” has many negative health effects.
8. What needs to be done before making detailed policies to restrict sugar?
A. Make a detailed category. B. Investigate the sugar market.
C. Check the existing evidence. D. Monitor products containing sugar.
9. What can be inferred from Dr. Maya Adam’s words in paragraph 5?
A. Whole grains are more nutritious. B. Whole food carbohydrates don’t break.
C. The rise of blood sugar is a long process. D. Simple sugars raise blood sugar rapidly.
10. What does the underlined word “circumscribe” in paragraph 6 mean?
A. Limit. B. Increase. C. Ignore. D. Promote.
11. What is the author’s attitude to the consumption of added sugar?
A. Supportive. B. Critical. C. Doubtful. D. Cautious.

The fish that Weiwei Li checked on every morning had spent an unusual night. Their small fish tank was lit by LED lights of a single wavelength—iridescent blue, rusty red, or a tangerine orange.
This artificial light replaced what would have been darkness had the fish lived in the wild, in rivers or lakes, someplace away from human settlements. As a behavioral ecologist, Li is interested in how certain kinds of artificial light affect the health of fish.
Her results were concerning. At the conclusion of the study, Li and colleagues found that not only do artificial lights at night cause what they consider “anxiety-like” behavior in zebrafish, this behavior is passed down to their offspring (后代), even when the offspring are born into an environment with natural light. “And we found extremely strong and clear negative effects on the behavior of fish and their offspring after only a few bright nights.”
The study chose zebrafish because they have very good light sensors. They have seven light sensors that can see a wide range of light. But Li and colleagues found that the fish were particularly disturbed by artificial blue light. After four nights spent under the lights the zebrafish began to hug the walls of their observation tank. They were sleepy, swimming less and covering only short distances.
Light pollution from urban developments has been a major problem for organisms living in exposed lakes and rivers for more than a century. Even some marine (海洋的) life has been affected. One solution to the light pollution problem is to use “spectral tuning (光谱调谐)”— the cutting out of some of the more damaging wavelengths, in favor of softer light — when designing lighting for urban areas. “But it only solves part of the problem because different organisms are often affected by different wavelengths of light,” Weiwei Li said. So less artificial light could help fish have a better future, for generations to come.
12. What is the main focus of Weiwei Li’s study?
A. The light sensors of different animals.
B. The effect of natural light on fish behavior.
C. The impact of artificial light on fish health.
D. The relationship between fish and their offspring.
13. Why were zebrafish chosen for this study?
A. They are easy to find. B. They prefer artificial light.
C. They adapt to artificial tanks. D. They are sensitive to light.
14. What might be Weiwei Li’s suggestion?
A. Adopting short-wave light. B. Stopping lighting at night.
C. Putting the fish back in nature. D. Minimizing artificial light.
15. What can be the best title for the text?
A. Zebrafish’s Living Habits
B. Light Pollution Makes Fish Anxious
C. The Role of Light Sensors in Zebrafish
D. Fish Adapt to Artificial Blue Light Quickly

第二节 (满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Warren was a young man and he was doing odd jobs outside. Warren’s mother called to tell him that Nana (外婆) Kitty had Alzheimer’s (阿尔茨海默症). The Chicago wind blew hard into the phone, releasing tears from his eyes. So Warren quit his job and returned to his hometown to look after Kitty.
Nana Kitty’s house hadn’t weathered the winters too well. The middle of the roof was slumped (塌) in. The stair was missing a step. Warren felt it had been years since he’d been home, but his mom corrected him, saying it had only been sixteen months. She asked if he was going back to college, but Warren said he focused on taking care of Nana Kitty.
Upon arrival, they found Nana Kitty standing in the hallway, holding a baseball bat, looking doubtful. Warren’s mom asked her to put the bat down and open the door. Nana Kitty’s appearance was untidy - messy white hair, nightgown, untied hiking boots.
Warren remembered hiding under bushes at her house during hot summer days, listening to the sounds of insects, and his mother and grandmother talking.
Inside, the familiar smells of dust, coffee and roast chicken filled the air, bringing back memories. Nana Kitty examined Warren coldly and asked if he was homeless. Technically, he was, as he began his role as her home health assistant.
Warren helped her to the bathroom and found an old straight razor (剃须刀). He managed to shave his beard, cutting himself only once. He showed her his clean face, hoping she’d recognize him. Instead, she gently wiped his wound with toilet paper. The closeness of the gesture brought tears to his eyes. He was just twenty-one, a fatherless boy who had had little success in the world so far. He rested his head on her lap.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“Oh little Warren honey, don’t cry,” she said softly, as if waking from a dream.

From that moment on, Warren’s days fell into a routine of looking after Nana Kitty.

第二节 (满分25分)
【47题答案】
【答案】
“Oh little Warren, honey, don’t cry,” she said softly, as if waking from a dream. Her voice was gentle, carrying the warmth of countless childhood hugs. She touched his hair gently. Warren looked up, his eyes meeting hers. For a brief, magical moment, he saw a glimmer of recognition in her eyes, as if the fog of Alzheimer’s had momentarily lifted. “Nana Kitty,” he choked out, “it’s me. I’m here to take care of you.” She nodded slowly, with a small smile starting to show at the corners of her mouth. In that instant, all the challenges of the past few hours seemed to fade away, replaced by a deep sense of connection.
From that moment on, Warren’s days fell into a routine of looking after Nana Kitty. Each morning, he’d wake up early to make her breakfast, then they’d sit on the chair, enjoying the fresh air and the simple pleasures of each other’s company. Sometimes, Nana Kitty would remember things from his childhood, sharing stories that made him laugh and cry. Other times, she’d be confused, but Warren never lost patience. He knew that beneath the confusion was the same loving grandmother who had always been there for him.
