课题 Unit10 Lesson1 How closely connected are we? 教学 目标 After class, students are able to: 1. have a general understanding of the “Six Degrees of Separation” and talk about the development of the theory; 2. learn and summarize the structure and language features of the expository writing; 3. use a mind-map to explain the theory clearly; 4. explore the limitation of the theory and its influence on human beings. 重点 Students learn to obtain the basic information about the theory of six-degree separation. 难点 Students can explain the theory with the help of a mind-map. 教法 听说法,启发探究,讲授法等 实施说明 演板提问,小组探究,讲授法等 课时 第1课时 教学过程 Step 1 Warming-up Ask Ss the following questions: 1. If you want to connect your favorite star, what can you do to make it? 2. How many people does it take to get connected with a random person in the world? 3. Can you believe that you can be connected with any person around the world? Step 2 Pre-reading 1. Watch a video and find out what the theory is. 2. Make a prediction about the text based on the picture on the book and the title. Step 3 While-reading General understanding: Skim through the text and find the following information: <1> What’s the main idea?---Six Degrees of Separation and its development. <2>How many parts can be divided?---3 <3>What is each part mainly about?---introduction;development;conclusion <4>What’s genre of this article?---expository writing Detailed understanding: Read the text carefully and find out some specific information. <1> What does the theory mean? <2> Who invented the theory and when it was invented? <3> What’s the development of the theory? Fill in the form. <4> Which kinds of writing techniques are used in this article? What’s the purpose of them? Step 4 Post-reading 1.Draw a mind-map and explain this theory to your classmates. 2.Discuss in groups about the limitation and application of the Six Degrees of separation. Summary Ask Ss to make a summary about what they have learned in this class to check their outcome.
