My mother was dead and I had no other relatives in England. So, while my father was away, I was sent to school. When I was seventeen, I received a letter from my father. He said that he was leaving India and coming back to England. He gave me the address of a hotel in London. He asked me to meet him there.” “I was very happy and excited about seeing my dear father again. I went to London and arrived at the hotel. I asked for Captain Morstan, my father. But I was told by the hotel manager that my father was not there. He had gone out the night before and not returned. I waited all day and all night, but my father didn’t come back to the hotel. Finally, I went to the police. They advertised (登广告) for Captain Morstan in all the newspapers, but without success. I never saw my dear father again.” “Four years after my father disappeared,” continued Miss Morstan, “I saw an advertisement in the newspaper. The date was 4th May 1882. To my surprise, the advertisement asked for the address of Miss Mary Morstan. It said that if I advertised my address, I would receive some very good news.” “What did you do?” asked Holmes. “I advertised my address in the same newspaper. The next day, I received a small cardboard box. Inside the box was a lovely pearl (珍珠). And I have received another five pearls since that day. They arrive every year on the same day. Look.” She opened a flat box and showed us six beautiful pearls. “________” asked Holmes. “Nothing at all,” replied Miss Morstan. C.Who sent these beautiful pearls? D.These pearls were your father’s? C We’ve all been there. It has been a long day. There is nothing in the fridge. Cooking seems arduous and the solution is obvious: takeaway. It’s easy for takeaways to become a regular habit. At some point, you have to wonder: even if you don’t look different in the mirror, is it doing you any harm? There is some evidence that too many takeaways is related to weight gain, but the relationship isn’t clear. A 2022 study found a connection between eating takeaway-style food in the 24 hours before taking the survey and increased BMI in participants, although the researchers were careful to point out that they didn’t know whether frequently eating takeaways made people overweight, or whether overweight people frequently eat takeaways. There is, however, evidence that simply living near (or walking past) a takeaway outlets (外卖店) or two can affect body weight, and reaching out to takeaway outlets near your workplace is most likely to attract people. But why? Well, takeaway food is usually high in fat and salt-ingredients (成分) that are relatively cheap and taste good, making you more likely to reorder. There is also some evidence that junk food can be addictive (上瘾的), as the combination of salt, fat and sugar makes it hard to stop eating. There is also the nutritional quality of the ingredients themselves. “Most takeaways contain highly processed ingredients and additives, nutrient-poor carbohydrates (碳水化合物) and plenty of deep-fried foods cooked in oil repeatedly heated to high temperatures,” says Pearson. So, what is the message? If you must place that order, consider the options: The worst foods on any menu are likely to be fried ones, or anything covered in high-sugar sauces. If you order Chinese food, go for steamed dumplings, grilled fish or soup. If you are going for Indian food, go heavy on the side dishes, like bean and potato curries, which are often more flavourful and healthy. Finally, try to cut your consumption (消费): consider changing your daily routes, hide the menus, and delete the apps on your phone. 33.What does the underlined word “arduous” in Paragraph 1 probably mean? A.Attractive. B.Troublesome. C.Confusing. D.Boring. 34.What are researchers still unclear about? A.The cause and effect relationship of takeaways and being overweight. B.Whether there is any connection between takeaways and being overweight. C.Which ingredients in takeaway food are the most addictive. D.Whether takeaways near the workplace are more likely to attract people. 35.Which takeaway choice would the writer consider least harmful? A.Hamburgers and fries. B.Indian main courses. C.Fried noodles. D.Steamed dumplings. 36.Which of the following is the best title for the passage? A.Takeaways make you fat B.Are takeaways harmful? C.How to choose the best takeaway D.How to avoid takeaways D ①Gu Jinling, a 12-year-old girl from Beijing, has become a social media influencer with over 2.5 million followers, catching fans with her special Chinese-style costume dances. Viewers are crazy about her beautiful costumes and the rich classical culture in her performances. They are also amazed by her excellent dance skills at such a young age. However, as online users jokingly say, Gu is already an “old artist”. She began learning dance at the age of 3 and has been practicing for nearly 10 years. ②Gu trained in ballet at first but began learning Chinese classical dance at the age of 6, attracted by its costumes, which she found “even prettier” than those of ballet. When visiting different cities, she often visits museums, closely watching the main points in ancient sculptures. ④For Gu, paying attention to details is important in catching the key points of ancient Chinese style. For example, in the classic Dunhuang dance pose “Rebound Pipa” (反抱琵琶), the eyes must look downward before looking far away, creating a sense of paying no attention to the world. The “Floating Clouds” dance movement, which covers the use of long silk ribbons, requires unusual control to achieve the good effect. ⑤Another challenging character of Dunhuang dance is the changes of foot positions, including flexed (弯曲) feet, pointed feet, toes (脚趾) flexed on a pointed foot, and toes flexed on a flexed foot. “I don’t feel much pain doing these movements because years of practice have made them natural,” Gu said. ⑥However, a child’s body is naturally more flexible, and movements that once came easily now require greater effort and practice. Since last year, Gu has spent more time mastering basic dance skills and so on. 37.What’s Paragraph 1 mainly about? A.What dance skills Gu uses. B.How many followers Gu has had. C.What makes Gu a social media influencer. D.How long Gu has practiced Chinese classical dance. 38.The writer mentions Gu’s classic Dunhuang dance ________. A.to describe the dance is very beautiful B.to explain Gu puts a lot of effort into it C.to prove this dance is very difficult D.to show Gu pays attention to details 39.What does the underlined word “them” refer to in the second last paragraph? A.Feet. B.Toes. C.Foot positions. D.Feet and toes. 40.Which of the following shows the structure of the passage? Red is a national colour in China. 41 People use it a lot, from celebrations and festivals to everyday life. The reduction woodcut uses one piece of wood to make a colorful artwork. The artist cuts and prints different layers (层) in order on the same piece of wood. The reduction woodcuts became an intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) in Pu’er, Yunnan, in 2009. Leng Guangmian, 40, is a reduction woodcut artist. Leng started learning it in 2003. He said that making reduction woodcut prints is just like an adventure. “Every time we cut on the wood and then print, we never know what it will be like in the end. “ As he sees beautiful patterns layer by layer, he only gets more excited, added Leng. But finishing such work is not easy. He said that before cutting, he needs to plan for the whole print and choose colors for different layers. A big print usually takes months to finish. Leng wants his artwork to show both great woodcutting skills and the culture and life in Pu’er. “For my works, there are two themes: Tea Horse Road (茶马古道), because Pu’er is one of the starting places of that road; and disappearing villages,” Leng said. “Many old villages in Pu’er need rebuilding, so I want to make people remember their beauty before they are gone.” Leng Guangmian is now getting more people to know about the reduction woodcut. He trains farmers in Pu’er and brings the art into schools. To make students understand and learn the art quickly, he even thought of a new idea of cardboard printing. “By using a small cardboard and making it simpler with three to five colors, students can get the beauty of the art,” Leng said. 66.What is the difference between reduction woodcut prints and traditional ones? 67.How does Leng feel when he sees beautiful patterns layer by layer? 68.What are the two themes in Leng Guangmian’s works? 69.What does the underlined word they refer to in Paragraph 5? 70.Do you think teenagers should learn Chinese traditional art? A.couldn’t; been B.can’t; gone C.can’t; been D.mustn’t; gone 【答案】B 【详解】句意:——谁在音乐教室里弹钢琴?是玛丽吗?——不可能是她。她出差去北京了。 考查情态动词和现在完成时的用法。couldn’t不能;can’t不能;mustn’t禁止;has been to去过已回;has gone to去了未回。第一处表示否定推测,且由“Is it Mary?”可知,此句应该一般现在时,此处应该用情态动词can’t,排除A、D;根据“to Beijing on business”可知,出差了,还未回来,用has gone to。故选B。 3.Huawei may still rely on its competitive research and development team to meet its technological needs, ________ the U.S. government blocks sales of U.S. technology to it. A.while B.unless C.until D.though 【答案】D 【详解】句意:尽管美国政府禁止向华为出售美国技术,但华为可能仍要依靠其具有竞争力的研发团队来满足其技术需求。 考查连词。while然而;unless除非;until直到;though尽管。结合句意,前一句表示华为可能仍要依靠其具有竞争力的研发团队来满足其技术需求,后一句表示美国政府禁止向华为出售美国技术,前后表示让步关系,因此用连词though,故选D。 4.When people call 110, they must tell where they are ________ so that the police can find them in time. A.seriously B.nearly C.exactly D.simply 【答案】C 【详解】句意:当人们拨打110时,他们必须告知自己的确切位置,以便警方能及时找到他们。 考查副词辨析。seriously严肃地;nearly几乎;exactly准确地;simply仅仅。根据“so that the police can find them in time”可知,人们应告知自己的确切位置。故选C。 5.—It’s said that the two ________doctors have just come back from Shanghai. —Yeah. I know them. They are both already in their ________. A.woman; forty B.women; fortieth C.women; forties D.woman; forties 【答案】C 【详解】句意:——据说这两位女医生刚从上海回来。——是啊。我认识她们。她们俩都已经四十多岁了。 考查名词复数和年龄段表达。以man、woman修饰的职业名称变复数时,man、woman也要变成复数,第一空后名词doctors为复数,所以此处应用women; in one’s +整十的复数,表示“在某人几十岁时”。故选C。 6.—Music and art enter the Entrance Examination for the high school, is it true? —Yes. But don’t worry. Nothing will be difficult if more attention ________ to them. A.is paid B.will be paid C.pays D.will pay 【答案】A 【详解】句意:——音乐和艺术进入高中入学考试,是真的吗?——对。但别担心。如果更多地关注它们,没有什么会是困难的。 考查时态及语态。if引导的条件状语从句遵循“主将从现”原则,从句用一般现在时,主语more attention与pay为逻辑上的动宾关系,所以用一般现在时的被动语态“am/is/are done”。故选A。 7.If you want to buy a new skirt, you’d better _______ first to make sure it really fits you. A.throw it away B.take it off C.put it off D.try it on 【答案】D 【详解】句意:如果你想买一条新裙子,你最好先试穿一下,以确保它真的适合你。 考查动词短语辨析。throw it away扔掉它;take it off脱掉它;put it off推迟它;try it on试穿它。根据“If you want to buy a new skirt”可知,买衣服之前最好先试穿一下,以确保合适。故选D。 8.It is impossible for ________ little children to do ________ much work within 20 minutes. C.How to choose the best takeaway D.How to avoid takeaways 【答案】33.B 34.A 35.D 36.B 【导语】本文主要探讨外卖与人的体重相关这个问题,同时文章呼吁人们合理消费,吃健康饮食。 33.词句猜测题。根据“It has been a long day, there is nothing in the fridge, cooking seems arduous and the solution is obvious”可知此处arduous是形容做饭,结合所说的“靠外卖解决吃的问题”可推测说明在家做饭很麻烦的,arduous意为“费力的”,故选B。 34.细节理解题。根据“although the researchers were careful to point out that they didn’t know whether frequently eating takeaways made people overweight, or whether overweight people frequently eat takeaways.”可知尽管研究人员谨慎地指出,他们并不清楚到底是经常吃外卖会让人超重,还是超重的人经常会吃外卖。也就是说研究人员仍然不清楚外卖食品与超重的因果关系。故选A。 35.细节理解题。根据“If you order Chinese food, go for steamed dumplings, grilled fish or soup.”可知如果你点中餐,可以点蒸饺、烤鱼或汤。故选D。 36.最佳标题题。根据“At some point, you have to wonder: even if you don’t look different in the mirror, is it doing you any harm?”可知本文主要探讨外卖是否对人有害的问题,故选B。 D ①Gu Jinling, a 12-year-old girl from Beijing, has become a social media influencer with over 2.5 million followers, catching fans with her special Chinese-style costume dances. Viewers are crazy about her beautiful costumes and the rich classical culture in her performances. They are also amazed by her excellent dance skills at such a young age. However, as online users jokingly say, Gu is already an “old artist”.
