I decided to think up a method of dealing with forbidden fruit.
...
My imaginary Grandma's Box worked like magic that spring, and later. Sometimes, students would ask me to describe all the things I had in it. Then I would try to remember the different possessions I supposedly had taken away—since I seldom actually kept them. Usually the__offender would appear at the end of the day, and I would return the belonging.
技法
25.What do the underlined words “the offender” in Paragraph 8 refer to?
A.The student's parent.
B.The maker of the Grandma's Box.
C.The author's grandchild.
D.The owner of the forbidden fruit.

When was the last time you used a telephone box? I mean to make an actual phone call—not to shelter from the rain. Ages ago, right? The last time I used a phone box for its intended purpose was ... 2006. I was conducting auditions (试演) for my play in my tiny old shared house in London. Hoping to impress some talented actors to come and work for me for nothing, I spread some throws over the sofas and lit candles to make it seem a bit more “young professional”.
24.What does the underlined word “it” in the first paragraph refer to?
A.The play. B.The shared house.
C.The sofa. D.The telephone box.
答案

(2024·山东省泰安市新泰第一中学高三一模)If you live in a region where winter weather is a regular risk, you are likely used to pouring salt on your sidewalks. But how does it work? And how much salt do humans pour onto our planet's surface? The second question is easier to answer: a lot.
Salt doesn't directly melt ice, nor does it make snow simply disappear. Instead it makes water less likely to freeze in a phenomenon called freezing point depression. In the case of simple rock salt, which is a rawer, less pure version of table salt, each molecule (分子) splits into smaller elements. Normally, when water freezes into ice, its molecules line up to form a stable, orderly structure. Salt interrupts the process, however, and temperatures must drop lower to overcome that interruption and for freezing to occur.
同步对点练
But if salt needs to interact with liquid water, how does it do anything when temperatures are stubbornly below freezing, and water should already be in the form of ice? That's where cars help clear their own way by creating friction and, in turn, heat. The friction allows for the ice that has already frozen to melt a little bit, making it unlikely to freeze.
Beyond rock salt's ability to clear icy streets, it can also be destructive. Chloride ions (氯离子) can cause wear and tear on vehicles and facilities. Increasing chloride densities in North American lakes could begin to upset local ecology and degrade sources of drinking water.
同步对点练
Many local governments are looking for alternatives to rock salt. Other salts such as magnesium chloride and calcium chloride work in the same way as rock salt, and they're perhaps even more efficient. Some experiments are testing other icepreventing solutions, including those that contain sugars instead of or in addition to salts. Another approach relies more heavily on sand, which can mechanically make roads safer. All of this experimentation is aimed at ensuring people can travel in any weather condition—a Herculean task when winter brings its worst.

Since the organization's early days, volunteers have learned how to cook, interact with people from all walks of life, pick up different languages, gain greater knowledge about social issues, and most importantly, build strong bonds with one another. Through Willing Hearts, Mr Tay hopes to expose the younger generation to the country's backyard, to allow them to see and experience firsthand what goes on behind closed doors. This is to encourage them to become more compassionate individuals who understand the importance of taking care of the elderly, and be inspired to foster unity within their own families. His best gift during the course of this journey is seeing how younger volunteers help and feed the less privileged. One volunteer, he proudly tells us, has been inspired to start his own programme to help the needy.

German physicist Albert Einstein is one of the most famous scientists of all time, the personification of genius and the subject of a whole industry of scholarship. In The Einsteinian Revolution, two experts on Einstein's life and his theory of relativity, Israeli physicist Hanoch Gutfreund and German historian of science Jürgen Renn, offer an original and penetrating (犀利的) analysis of Einstein's revolutionary contributions to physics and our view of the physical world.
By setting Einstein's work in the long course of the evolution of scientific knowledge, Gutfreund and Renn discover the popular misconception of Einstein as an unconventional scientific genius who singlehandedly created modern physics—and by pure thought alone.
新高考外刊题组精练
48
As a large part of the book explains, Einstein typically argued that science progresses through steady evolution, not through revolutionary breaks with the past. He saw his theory of relativity not as something from__scratch,__but a natural extension of the classical physics developed by pioneers such as Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei and English physicist Isaac Newton in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, as well as nineteenthcentury physicists.
The authors highlight how classical physics cannot be separated cleanly from modern Einsteinian physics. The book also includes substantial sections on Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus and Galileo whose methods inspired Einstein. When Einstein considered himself as standing on their shoulders, he meant that, without their contributions, he would not have formulated (阐述) the theory of relativity.

The Einsteinian Revolution is an important and thoughtprovoking contribution to the scholarly literature on Einstein and his surprising scientific creativity between 1905 and 1925. Gutfreund and Renn might not have given the final answer as to why Einstein, of all people, revolutionized physics in the way that he did. But they argue in fascinating detail that, to understand his genius, one must take into account not just the earlier history of physics but also the history of knowledge more broadly. Although not always an easy read, the book will interest physicists and historians alike.

Why do we universally appreciate cartoons? Because they are visual—the humor unfolds right before our eyes. As writers, we have a unique challenge to craft worlds, including humorous ones, using only words.
At first glance, writers and cartoonists have vastly different toolboxes and skill sets. But if you look closely, you will notice similar devices, such as simplification, exaggeration (夸张), and contrast.

56
In many literary forms, decoration enriches a piece. That's not true for humor writing—humor can get lost with too many details. Adding a bit of shading will give depth to an illustration, yet there's usually no need to detail every feature. There's a thin line between plain and funny, and the difference often lies in whether a writer adheres__to the universal comedic principle, “less is funnier”. By simplifying complex situations, characters, plots, and reactions, your work becomes more digestible and humorous.
新高考外刊题组精练
57
Exaggeration is one of the most straightforward and effective comedic tools. As a humor writer, don't shy away from every chance to stretch the truth, whether by understatement or overstatement. However, effective humor is truth based. The relationship between exaggeration and realism in humor is like stretching a rubber band (橡皮筋). A little stretching, even repeated stretching, is no problem. However, overstretching the band will cause it to break, as well as the humor and the reader's trust.
Contrasting is the juxtaposition (并列) of elements not usually coupled, a technique that cartoonists use to create humorous mismatches by placing significantly different elements side by side. As writers, we can use juxtaposition to brainstorm new humor angles and create funny mismatches.

It is the recognition of video gaming as a source of competitive play within a structured group environment. Contrary to the outdated belief that video gamers are unhealthy, unsociable, and untidy young peoples, esports has largely become about bringing a healthy, social, and structured form of team play to the video games industry. Professional esports organizations like Gen.G are investing big money into highquality training facilities that allow for the necessary development of positive group dynamics in an environment complete with wellness professionals.

By welcoming esports, schools can capitalize upon its organic growth and draw students away from uninteractive and inactive pastimes toward an activity that can instill (灌输) common values and principles. Among those values is that physical and mental activity and wellness is key to quality esports play. Just like any competitive pursuit, esports organizations have found that taking health and wellness seriously helps athletes be more competitive and lengthen their careers by reducing injuries and mental tiredness. Increasingly, they are using the same strategies as traditional sports: gym training, preventive stretching and testing to prevent against repetitive injuries, limiting training hours to fight against mental tiredness, and focusing on proper diet and sleep.

Politicians and educators should take a page out of this__professional__playbook. Instead of merely building esports facilities and enabling onscreen practice, equal emphasis should be placed on promoting general health and wellness. National and local leaders must be ready to fight against risk of addiction by rolling out esports in a responsible manner and as part of an extracurricular experience that promotes balanced digital play through the search for best training time to improve individual or team skills.

Tonight, our family was going out to play under the full moon.
My husband Todd and I first started going on full moon walks for ourselves, as we needed these little doses of moonlight to stay happy, though sometimes we had to hike through the forest to find a perfect spot. But after we became parents, we did this for our children. We wanted to show Sierra and Bryce that it was not necessary to travel far from home to have an adventure and learn something new, and that there was much magic in the natural world, available to all.

Once we arrived at our location, Sierra and I stood holding hands, waiting to cheer the full moon in its rising—a thin sliver of the appealing moon emerged above the ridge of the mountain afar. Soon, more of the moon came out until it turned into a brilliant orange sphere. Todd explained to Sierra and Bryce that the moon generates no light, but simply acts like a mirror, reflecting the sunlight back to us. “Does the moon's face change?” Bryce asked. I told him that the moon rotates (旋转) around the earth, but does not spin by itself, so the same side of the moon is always facing the earth. Sierra remarked that the moon looked larger and closer when it was rising. I explained that it is a visual illusion (错觉) because it is so close to the horizon that the moon magically tricks our eyes into comparing it with nearby objects, thus creating the impression of the increased size.

Much of the knowledge that I shared with the kids was learned from my parents. During my childhood, they would take me on educational adventures out in the woods, and as I later found, so did their parents. So every time I go for a full moon walk with my beloved family, I thank those wise educators who came before me.
To educate, sometimes all it takes is going outdoors and gazing up at the heavens.
