【教学过程】
Step 1 Lead-in
1. Greet the students and ask them about their recent experiences or plans for holidays.
2. Show the pictures in la and ask students to talk about the activities in them.
Example :
A: What's the boy doing?
B : He's washing dishes.
Step 2 Work on 2a
1. Look at the picture in 2a. Ask and answer questions like this :Who are they? What are they doing? What else can you see in the picture? Can you guess what they are talking about now?
2. Assign task : Listen to the conversation between Jane and her family back in the UK. Fill in the blanks.
3. Play the audio for 2a and ask students to fill in the blanks while listening
4.Check answers. The answers are :(1)How are you(2)How's life in Guangzhou (3)Is she feeling better (4)How are you doing5.Explain the following language items by giving some examples.make...for; What about...? feel better , hold on ; have fun ; watch dragon boat races on TV.
Step 3 Work on 2b
1. Ask students to read the conversation in 2a and circle T/F/NG for each statement.
2.Check answers in class. The answers are :

Step 4 Work on 2c
1. Guide students to read the conversation again and complete the table in 2c, summarizing what Jane and her family are doing.
2. Check answers in class.
Jane : making zongzi
Jane's parents : washing the car, gardening
Step 5 Work on 2d
1. Play the audio for 2d again and ask students to pay attention to the stressed words.
2. Pair students up and have them role play the conversation, emphasizing the stressed words .
3. Ask some students to act out the conversation in class.
Step 6 Work on 2e
1. Provide a list of telephone expressions to help students with their conversations.The following items can be used to help them :
Hello/Hi, it's...
This is... speaking.
May I ask who's calling?
Could I speak to...?Is... there, please?Yes, hold on, please.
Can I take a message?
Would you like to leave a message?Could you tell him/her to call me back?No problem.
2. Ask students to work in pairs and role-play a telephone conversation using the telephone expressions learned in the lesson. Encourage creativity and the use of new vocabulary.
3. Ask some pairs to act out their conversations in class.
Step 7 Summary
Summarize the key points of the lesson and assign homework, such as writing a short telephone conversation based on the day's lesson.
Step 8 Homework
Write down the conversation in 2e.
