One day in a small town in Missouri, Nema, Joe, and Sandy were driving back to St. Louis when they saw a fruit market by the road. Joe and Sandy loved markets, so they stopped and hung around. They were looking at vegetables and fruit when they came across the grape section. There were lots of grapes to choose from. Joe loved grapes, so he bought a big bushel.
When Sandy and Joe finished shopping, they met Nema at the car with the grapes. There were too many to put on the back seat because Nema had too many other packages, so Joe put them in the trunk. Joe dropped off Nema and headed home with Sandy. It was very late when they got home, and Joe forgot to take the grapes out of the trunk.
The next morning while on his way to work, he heard a buzzing sound and wondered what it was. He turned on a window and noticed little black and gold things flying out of the vents (通风口). They were bees! Joe’s car was filled with bees that he had to pull over and roll his windows down. A lot of bees flew out, but there were a lot left. Joe finally made it to work. He rolled down the windows so the rest of the bees would have a way to escape while he was working.
On his way home, more bees came out of the vents. He couldn’t know where they were from. When he got home, he told Sandy about that. She asked him if he ever took the grapes out of the trunk. Joe said no. He went to the car, opened the trunk, and hundreds of bees were flying around! Joe ran inside and Sandy told him the bees must have come from the grapes. Joe took the grapes out and dumped them on the ground. Then came out a beehive along with the grapes, which explained why many bees were in Joe’s car.
4. Where did Joe put the grapes?
A. On the left front seat. B. On the back seat. C. On the seat. D. In the trunk.

7. Who figured out the cause of the incident?
A. Joe. B. Sandy. C. Nema. D. Joe’s family.

Tagging (贴标签) a shark requires quick action and good timing, according to Jon Dodd, director of the Atlantic Shark Institute. This South Kingstown-based nonprofit organization, co-founded by a lifelong Rhode Islander, attaches various types of tags to sharks to track and study them. The process, conducted by a team of four to six people, involves attaching the tag, taking blood samples, and measuring the shark, all within a maximum of 12 minutes. If the shark shows any signs of pain, it is immediately released back into the sea, regardless of whether all data has been collected.
Tagging helps researchers track sharks’ movements and gather valuable data about their behavior and habitat. Given the vulnerability (脆弱) of many shark species, the institute follows strict rules for handling the animals. Traditional J hooks (钩子), which can cause deadly injuries, have been replaced with safer circle hooks to increase the chances of a shark’s survival if the hook cannot be removed.
The type of tag used depends on the species and the study’s objectives. National fisheries tags, the least expensive, are provided for free by NOAA Fisheries. These tags contain index (索引) cards that provide information when retrieved. Acoustic tags, costing $425 each, last about a decade and track sharks’ movements via signals picked up by acoustic receivers along the East Coast. The most advanced tags, pop-up satellite archival tags, cost up to$4,000 and provide detailed data such as water depth and temperature for about two years.
Dodd, who has spent over 45 years studying sharks, expresses deep concern about their declining populations. He highlights the slow growth and maturation rates of many species, such as the great white shark, which takes many years to reach an adult. This slow reproduction rate, combined with high death rates from bycatch (误捕), finning, and recreational fishing, has led to a 71% decline in global shark populations since 1975. Dodd emphasizes that healthy shark populations are crucial for maintaining ocean health, which in turn affects human health.
8. Which best describes the tagging process?
A. Time-consuming. B. Dangerous. C. Demanding. D. Well-paid.
9. What does paragraph 2 talk about?
A. Hooks for safer tagging. B. Ways to collect data.
C. Approaches to choose hooks. D. Reasons for injuries.
10. What does the underlined word “retrieved” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Attached. B. Searched. C. Released. D. Achieved.
11. What does Dodd imply about sharks?
A. They have high survival rates. B. They are easy to tag.
C. They reproduce quickly. D. They play an important role.

Federal regulators gave a strong push to electric-powered air taxis Wednesday by issuing a final rule for operating the aircraft and how pilots will be trained to fly them. The head of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Mike Whitaker, said the rule recognizes air taxis as an entirely new type of aircraft that will soon join airplanes and helicopters in the sky.
These aircraft take off and land vertically (垂直地), like helicopters, but fly like fixed-wing planes. Many companies are working to get them on the market, but they have been held back by the lack of clarity (清晰) over regulations to govern their use. Whitaker said the FAA is stressing safety as it works to fold the new aircraft into the nation’s airspace. He said “powered-lift aircraft” are the first new category of aircraft in nearly 80 years, since the dawn of helicopters, and the rule will allow for their widespread operation.
Air taxi supporters call them a cleaner alternative to passenger planes that burn jet fuel. So far, however, current technology limits their size and likely means that they will be used most often in urban areas. One of the companies in the new field praised the FAA regulation. CEO JoeBen Bevirt said, “The rules are necessary and will certainly play a positive role in the healthy development and adoption of clean flight.”
Airlines see air taxis as a way to deliver passengers to airports. Delta Air Lines said in 2022 it would invest $60 million, and this month a Japanese company announced a $500 million investment. United Airlines is backing another California-based company, with an order for 200 aircraft that Archer said could be worth $1 billion with an option for $500million more.
12. What does the air taxi refer to in the text?
A. A new kind of plane. B. An electric-powered taxi.
C. A new type of large bus. D. A taxi as big as a helicopter.
13. What keeps the air taxi from being put to the market?
A. No large investments. B. Lack of clear regulations.
C. Shortage of official approval. D. High costs.
14. Why are some people in favor of the air taxi?
A. For its perfect technology. B. For its low prices.
C. For its clean energy. D. For its comfort and convenience.
15. What is the attitude of the Japanese company to the air taxi?
A. Doubtful. B. Cautious. C. Favorable. D. Unconcerned.

Anika pulled her wheeled suitcase behind her when following her parents through the airport. She looked all around her in the huge building that seemed to be filled with thousands of people. It was going to be her first time on an airplane. She was very excited, or rather just a little nervous. She hugged her favorite doll tight. That made her feel better.
She walked down the narrow aisle of the plane to find her seat with her parents. The tall flight attendant smiled at her and asked where they were going. “A world-famous entertainment resort,” Anika said with a smile.
“I think so,” replied the flight attendant. “Most of the families on this flight are headed that way.” She pointed to her name tag. “I'm Leanne. Let me know if you and your pretty doll friend need anything.”
“Thanks. I'm Anika, and this is Pansy,” said Anika, holding the doll up to show her. “Nice to meet you both,” replied Leanne. The flight was a few hours so she read a book with Pansy and did some puzzles her mother had packed for the trip. Soon she was getting a little tired and bored too.
Anika’s mom suggested she get some sleep, asking for a pillow and a blanket. Anika tucked Pansy under the blanket and fell asleep quickly. In no time, it seemed, she was being woken up again because it was time to land. They had arrived!
She wasn’t quite awake yet. Her mother and father were busy packing up. They picked up their bags and jackets, ready to leave the plane. Leanne walked past them, collecting the pillows and blankets from the passengers.
“Bye, maybe I will see you next week on your return flight home,” Leanne said and waved goodbye to Anika and the other passengers as they left the plane.
As Leanne shook out the blankets she had gathered from the seats, the flight attendant was surprised when a doll fell out onto the floor. She picked it up and recognized it as the doll young Anika had shown her.

【答案】8. C 9. A 10. B 11. D

(大西洋鲨鱼研究所的所长乔恩·多德说,给鲨鱼贴标签需要迅速行动和良好的时机)”以及根据第一段“The process, conducted by a team of four to six people, involves attaching the tag, taking blood samples, and measuring the shark, all within a maximum of 12 minutes.
根据第二段“Traditional J hooks (钩子), which can cause deadly injuries, have been replaced with safer circle hooks to increase the chances of a shark’s survival if the hook cannot be removed.(传统的J形钩子会造成致命伤害,已被更安全的环形钩取代,以增加鲨鱼在无法取出钩子时的生存机会)”可知,这一段主要讲述了更安全的标记钩子。 故选A。
【10题详解】
词句猜测题。根据划线单词所在句子“These tags contain index (索引) cards that provide information when retrieved.(这些标签包含retrieved时提供信息的索引卡)”和下文“Acoustic tags, costing $425 each, last about a decade and track sharks’ movements via signals picked up by acoustic receivers along the East Coast.(声学标签,每个425美元,能持续使用10年,通过东海岸的声学接收器接收到的信号来追踪鲨鱼的运动)”可知,这种标签的信息是检索后才能使用的,因此retrieved是“检索”的意思。与search“(用计算机)搜索,检索”同义。故选B。
【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Dodd emphasizes that healthy shark populations are crucial for maintaining ocean health, which in turn affects human health.(多德强调,健康的鲨鱼种群对维持海洋健康至关重要,进而影响人类健康)”可推知,多德暗示鲨鱼在生态系统中发挥了重要作用。 故选D。

【答案】12. A 13. B 14. C 15. C

Should We Study Abroad?
As a high school student, I think it’s a good idea to study abroad. There are several reasons why I believe this.
First of all, studying abroad can help us learn a new language better. When we live in a country where the language is spoken, we can practice it every day, which is very helpful. Besides, it can help us understand different cultures. By living with people from different backgrounds, we can learn about their traditions and ways of life. Lastly, studying abroad can make us more independent. We have to take care of ourselves, which can be a great way to grow up and learn to be responsible.
So, in my opinion, if we have the chance, we should definitely consider studying abroad. It’s a great opportunity to learn and grow.

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

【答案】
With duties to complete, she couldn’t run after the family and return it. Leanne felt a bit worried. She knew how much the doll meant to Anika. After finishing her tasks, she took the doll to the lost-and-found office at the airport. She carefully filled out a form, describing Anika and the details of the flight. She hoped that Anika would come to claim it. Every time she thought about the little girl’s disappointed face if she found out Pansy was missing, she felt a pang of guilt.
A week later, when she boarded the plane, Anika was surprised to see Leanne again. Anika’s eyes were red and swollen as she had been crying over the loss of Pansy. Leanne quickly walked over to her with a big smile and held out Pansy. “Is this what you’ve been looking for?” she asked. Anika's face lit up instantly. She hugged Leanne tightly and then grabbed Pansy, tears of joy streaming down her face. “Thank you so much! I was so sad without her,” Anika said. Leanne patted her head and said, “I knew you must be heartbroken. I’m glad I could return her to you.” And then, they started a pleasant conversation as the plane took off on its return journey.
